Concert Review: Rascal Flatts at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay

Mar 12, 2007, 06:29 PM | by Whitney Pastorek

Categories: Music

Rascal_l Greetings from the fine town of Houston, Texas, PopWatchers, where I am currently holed up in my parents' guest room and getting ready to hit the rodeo with my mom (more on that tomorrow). Later this week, I'm borrowing the family Saturn to drive up to Austin for South by Southwest, where I'll be blogging regularly, just for you — think Sundance, but drunker more music-oriented.

But last weekend, an elaborate series of events took me to Las Vegas and plopped me down in the middle of an event that even my country-loving, native-Texan brain could barely comprehend: Rascal Flatts and their "Me and My Gang" Tour. During NASCAR weekend. In Vegas. It was like the All-Star game for white folk, and I was there, PopWatchers, nearly trembling with excitement over this perfect confluence of events.

Anyone out there ever been to a Rascal Flatts concert? Show of hands, please. Okay, I'm gonna ask you, then:

Um... did you like it? I really, really did not. Now, I like some of their songs okay, and "What Hurts the Most" a lot — I figure they're basically the Nickelback of country music, right? — but what I watched this weekend was inexcusable, friends. As I try to explain that here, I hope those of you who just raised your hands will keep open hearts and minds and then use the comment section to try and educate me in your ways. Because I've never seen a worse show in my entire life.

Now, I was raised in the era of Garth Brooks, so seeing artists trying to turn country music into a spectacle is nothing new for me. I don't mind the occasional flashpot or crazed leap from a ramp, and I am even willing to embrace headset mikes on burly men as a necessary evil. So when I saw the massive spaceship of a set sprawled out before me at the Mandalay Bay events center, I assumed I'd be witnessing that Garth Brooksian sort of showmanship.

The show opened with a well-received set by up-and-comer Jason Aldean (he's the reason I was in town; watch the magazine for more, country fans!), who slapped on his tight Levis and curled-brim cowboy hat and performed energetic versions of his biggest hits: "Amarillo Sky," "Hicktown," "Why," and new single "Johnny Cash." He and his carefully coiffed band also blazed through two faithful Guns n' Roses covers, setting a tone that would be repeated throughout the night: Just because we're country doesn't mean we can't RAWK.

But while Aldean's band chose to RAWK via a rippin' rendition of "Paradise City," Rascal Flatts showed up and immediately demonstrated that RAWKing to them meant "KISS concert." This stuff started from the very beginning of the show: The lights went out! The Flatts appeared, silhouetted behind a smoky curtain as a robotic voice counted down from five! A big boom! The curtain vanishes! And... there they are! Eeeeeeeeeeee! From there, it was two hours of video screens and shooting sparks and flashy lighting and confetti cannons and a metal gondola that carried them from one end of the venue to the other. (Believe me, PopWatchers: When I came back from getting another beverage to see the three Flatts boys in a steel cage, hovering above the heads of the squealing people, I just about walked out right then and there.)

Once I got over my fit of the giggles, I tried to focus on the music, but so many things were making it hard. First, the sound was horrible, and the vocals were so muddy I couldn't understand a word lead singer Gary LeVox (pictured) was saying. I later learned he was sick as a dog, so they may have tweaked the levels to cover this, but from out in the house, it just came across as badness. Of course, if you know every word and are singing along at the top of your lungs, you tend not to notice that sort of thing.  On the songs where I knew the words — "What Hurts the Most," the lovely harmonies of "Broken Road," "Stand," "These Days," and that infernal cover of "Life is a Highway" — I found my toes tapping along, while being simultaneously horrified at what was happening before me.

Over the course of the show, I'd estimate that 95 percent of my consciousness was occupied trying to keep my corneas from burning to death on the 8 billion video screens that made up the set. Not that there's anything new about running nature footage behind your stage while you play — the Dixie Chicks were doing that back on the Fly tour — but these screens were so high-def and so cheesy I couldn't tear myself away. It's as if they hired whoever shoots the footage for karaoke videos and gave them an unlimited budget, or spent too much time down at the Peppermill. (Inside joke for you Vegas lovers there.)

And when the screens weren't showing us a waterfall or a beautiful woman dancing on a beach, they were showing us... Rascal Flatts' own videos! That's right: On at least three occasions, the band played a song in perfect sync with what gets shown on CMT, making me wonder why these people paid hundreds of dollars to be there when they could have stayed home and watched CMT in their pajamas, and gotten the same performance. I don't know about you, but I like to hear a little musicianship in my live shows. Otherwise, it's like someone pushed play on a really big CD, and then charged me $9 for beer.

On top of that, they forced me to sit through: A drum battle; covers of "Summer of '69," "Jesse's Girl," and "Hotel California" (causing me to wonder if it shouldn't be called the "Me and My First Guitar Lesson" Tour); something called "Joe Don Time"; an appearance by Uncle Kracker, who sang all of "Drift Away," almost on key; and a long reenactment of a girl on the phone planning to come to the RF show and talking to her boyfriend, performed by bassist Jay DeMarcus.

But what finally sold me on the fact that this particular emperor has no clothes was watching Gary perform. I understand that Mr. LeVox (not his real last name) was sick. But I also understand that the show must go on. Instead, what I saw him doing was strolling around the stage at a speed so slow I generally reserve it for museums. They'd built him a sort of half-Bono ramp that extended out into the floor crowd (hmm... isn't Bono's fake last name Vox, too?), and he'd stroll down to the end of the left side of that and shake some hands, turn, wander back over to the right side, shake some hands. During "My Wish," he pulled a suspiciously pretty little girl out of the crowd (hmm... doesn't Bono sometimes pull girls out of the crowd, too?), and the two of them strolled down the left side of the ramp and shook some hands, then strolled over to the other side and shook some hands. Sometimes Gary would hold the mic "out" to the crowd to encourage them to sing; he indicated this by cocking his wrist and sort of drooping the microphone towards the audience. I don't believe I saw him run once. I did, however, see him sit down. It was like watching sound check. It was insulting.

Garth Brooks, it should be said, would never have settled for that sort of behavior.

I'm gonna stop now, because I'm just making myself angry again. So I'm opening things up to you, PopWatchers: What am I missing? Are we all so starved for entertainment that we're willing to watch an average band put on a mediocre performance with cliched special effects, and call it amazing? I know the people in the stands were having fun — they never did stop squealing — and a very drunk casino manager next to me said this was the best concert they'd ever had in that venue, better than Madonna. I almost choked to death on my $9 beer at that point.

At the end of the show, Rascal Flatts climbed back up to the top of their spaceship stage and disappeared behind a booming cloud of smoke. It reminded me less of Garth Brooks and more of the Wicked Witch of the West, and I am now wondering if the title of their previous album (Melt) was more symbolic than anyone knew. Should I meet Rascal Flatts in the future, I may try to pour a little water on them, just to see — because if what I saw Saturday night is the best they're planning to do with their massive fame and devoted fan base, I don't think they deserve any of it. Let's give it to someone who's willing to at least pretend like they care. Because trust me: The fans really, really do. And that's not something anyone should take lightly, or for granted.

im gonna lay it out on the line.... RASCAL FLATTS IS AMAZING AND IM A DIE HEART FAN!!! ima Gary girl all the way!!!

Dave Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 01:34 AM EST

I couldn't agree more. This isn't country music at all. It's bubble gun pop. Those Rascal Flats guys don't even look like guys. More like the Culture Club. With all the covers they pretend on, they should cover 'Do you really wanna hurt me' or 'Karma Chameleon".

Reading back through these old posts, I think blahblah sounds like a hot, little girl. I'd like to get up on her myself. I bet I could make her whine like Joe Don.

RF stinks, by the way...

BestRx Tue, May 6, 2008 at 06:08 PM EST

Did you in a single review compare the travesty that is Rascal Flatts to Garth, the Chicks and U2? Yes, I know it was a negative comparison but those guys are too amazing to be mentioned in the same 30 minutes of breath as the Flatts boy. (Feel free to pepper in as many Nickelback comparisons as you'd like.)

dubs Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 10:56 PM EST

I still love this review. Every time I'm confused about RF's popularity, this review reminds me that I'm not crazy - the tweeners still haven't developed their musical senses yet...

I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting!

Big poppa Thu, Nov 22, 2007 at 09:43 AM EST

Just because you sell millions doesn't mean you are any good. They are basically a country boy band. Hell, there are only 3 guys in the group. Singer, bass player & guitar player. Where's the drummer? You can't be called a band wihout a drummer! Recently, they were on one of the award shows and really stunk it up. You had the 3 asshats and 4 other muscians behind them. Does their sound really require 7 people? I'm thinking the guitar & bass player suck so bad "live" that they had the other guys out there to cover up their mistakes. And the singer. What can I say. If you think he is good, you have no clue of what is talent. Long story short, they are no talent ass clowns and should be treated as such.

Eli Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 04:47 PM EST

Hmmm... they're saying that Gary's bad performance on the CMA awards is also due to his being sick. Somebody get this guy some vitamin C!

Isn't illness the same excuse that we hear by the awful singers on the first 2 weeks of American Idol? I think so.

TobyFlattsfan01 Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 10:21 PM EST

Ernesto, the Dixie Hacks got dissed by the critics in their own backyard in LA, who would've guessed? Makes me laugh though. Maybe they're not the real deal you think they are.

Hey Whit, I'm not gonna bury you for what you said about the Flatts; instead, I suggest you you go see a real female singer in the future, mainly Martina McBride.

Jeremie Sun, Oct 28, 2007 at 03:00 PM EST

I think this review is right on. I do know it was from a while ago but I watched a show the other night that was just as bad. Pretty sure Gary wasn't sick! I like Rascal Flatts and have since they came out. Garth will be doing some shows in KC soon and maybe the boys hsould go and see how it's done. Sorry love ya guys but you have to do better.

Ruth Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 07:49 PM EST

Thank you for writting the truth. It seems that they are, for some reason, getting worse and worse as they go on. Seriously guys, we DO NOT want to hear someone elses songs. We didn't pay to hear 5 of your songs and 20 of other peoples songs. Their last concert, they had their "Me and My Gang" cd just released and they played TWO whole songs from it. Unbelieveable. I have never been so irritated. After that night, they were no longer my favorite group... :\

Carol Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 11:55 AM EST

I went to a Rascal Flatts concert this weekend in Virgina, what a huge disapointment. The lead singer only sang half the songs, he would leave the stage after singing 2 songs and even sat down on a stool not half way through the show. The guitarists attempted to sing the rest and it was soooo slow I found it hard to enjoy what was good. I'll buy their CD's but never pay to see them live again

ILuvThemRascals Tue, Jun 19, 2007 at 07:38 PM EST

haha this is still going on? even tehe slightest bit? ...yes I was one that disagreed with not again but he is right we did make peace with eachother..I dont think stirring it up would be a great idea!....onteh other hand!...RASCAL FLATTS STILL ROCK!!!!

Not Again Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 08:33 PM EST

Wait a second, why am I getting attacked here? I made my peace with everyone. My arguments are like three months old or something. We have all moved on.

Several young ladies here disagreed with me, but we came to an understanding. And I think I even went as far as to say that I had somewhat changed my mind on RF after hearing "What Hurts The Most".

Don't know what Howard Stern has to do with anything, but your pigeonholing of my likes and dislikes proves you to be the bona fide dummy. Not me.

Experiment Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 08:31 PM EST

Not Again: You need to pick up your Dummy award. You also have an appointment with me next week. I am going to try shock treatment. I have to help you get well, can't have you running loose in this world. The world is crazy enough.

Hey! Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 08:15 PM EST

Not Again: Bona Fide dummy, year 2007

To Not Again Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 08:07 PM EST

The only person who is truly great to Not Again is the perverted Howard Stern. This guy hates everyone else. He tried to shove his views down everyone's throats. Don't bother disagreeing with this person. It is not worth it.

Jane Manning Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 07:59 PM EST

Joe Gel: Are you sure that is your real name? You sound exactly like someone on the Madonna board.

Rascal Flatts is wonderful!

Joe Don's Hair Gel Sun, Jun 17, 2007 at 07:53 PM EST

Stupider? Are you serious? You can't be serious.

Look, redneck, why don't you just go back to screwing your daddy, and leave the hard stuff like English, grammar, and sentence structure to us normal people! Thanks.

blahblahblahRFforliiiife Mon, Jun 11, 2007 at 08:59 PM EST

i'm sure your mom is stupider. :]

Joe Don's Hair Gel Sun, May 27, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

Affend? What in the hell does affend mean? Oh, did you mean offend? My God, you people are ignorant morons, aren't you? I'm sure all Rascal Flatts' fans are just as stupid.

ILuvThemRascals Wed, May 23, 2007 at 09:11 PM EST

haha KIDDING, but in all seriousness making jabs at us for being "hicks" is probably the most pointless and immature move you could make. Grow up SUCKA.

blahblahblahRFforliiiife Sat, May 19, 2007 at 10:20 PM EST

guess whos back back back back again gain gain HA :]

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I SAW THESE WONDERFUL MEN YESTERDAY AND THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. SO FREAKING GOOD, GARY SOUNDED OUTSTANDING AND LOOKED DAAAMMMNNN GOOD :D
i really can't belive this is still going on...
and hair gel person, the only reason they didn't sound there best on AI is because JD's mic was too loud so it sounded like he was screaming over Gary.

Joe Don's Hair Gel Thu, May 10, 2007 at 11:12 PM EST

Okay, you are an ignorant, redncek skank. Wait, okay, maybe you didn't want to hear that either. But that is true as well.

ILuvThemRascals Mon, May 7, 2007 at 11:04 PM EST

Hey Joe Dons Hair Gel!

tell us something that we actually care to hear!....thanks for your input though!

wingnut Mon, Apr 30, 2007 at 10:06 PM EST

oh, come on, blahblah, dont act like you dont want me to bend you over, pull those panties to the side, and make you see god...

Joe Don's Hair Gel Sat, Apr 28, 2007 at 08:50 PM EST

Saw these guys on American Idol last week. Yikes. They were awful. I don't get what the big deal is with them. I think I'd rather listen to Randy lose that Rueben Sandwich he had for lunch.

ILuvThemRascals Fri, Apr 20, 2007 at 10:30 PM EST

Gary was awesome!......him being sick didnt change him at all!

I LOVE YOU GARY!!!!

samantha Thu, Apr 19, 2007 at 05:08 AM EST

Itruly love rascal flatts, i have been to 4 concerts in 2 years and i truly think they always sound wonderful. I just think that since Gary was sick you did not get to hear his wonderful voice that he has. I will be seeing them again and i do not intend on missing any concerts in my area. I truly think that you need to go to another concert and then you can see for your self what us RF fans are talking about.

Rasberryrain82 Mon, Apr 16, 2007 at 12:18 PM EST

RASCAL FLATTS ROCK.!! LOVE YOU GUYS!! ENOUGH SAID.

backwardsrain Mon, Apr 16, 2007 at 10:26 AM EST

from the article... "It reminded me less of Garth Brooks and more of the Wicked Witch of the West, and I am now wondering if the title of their previous album (Melt) was more symbolic than anyone knew. Should I meet Rascal Flatts in the future, I may try to pour a little water on them, just to see"

haha, i just find that funny... lol.

and anyways, is it really a bad thing that they aren't JUST like Garth Brooks? no artist ever made it in the industry by copying someone else, Rascal Flatts included ;) plus, i thought "Wicked" the musical was rather good... haha :P

I am shocked Mon, Apr 16, 2007 at 10:14 AM EST

For all you non country RF fans... you are still trying to do what with your comments and points? Make a statement or just talk to yourselves on the internet because no one is really paying attention to ya.

All RF fans. Do not even bother with this anymore. These fans don't get it.

blahblahblahRFforliiiife Thu, Apr 12, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

Beth Said: "Hopefully Rascal Flatts reads this and gets the hint that we want a real show!"

Rascal Flatts couldnt give a flying rats rear end about this review!.....The fans go to tehre shows and Like it so why would they change? That would be putting the fans down! and Changing for people like you who bash and dont care about them!...So why would they take your advice?? after talking badly about them? Fine you didnt like it! then dont go to another show!....there not going to change the way they perform just because you think its lousy! thats who they are..and the fans like them because of it!....thats all there is to it!

oh and Wingnut!....we've already made peace with Not Again so stop making your nasty comments!

wingnut Sun, Apr 8, 2007 at 06:16 PM EST

id love to pump my hot man yogurt all over her flat little belly.

Beth Sat, Apr 7, 2007 at 07:13 AM EST

You are SO correct! I saw them 10/13 in Philly and it was the exact same lameness (even down to the Jay monologue and Gary sitting around staring out at the audience!!! I was so disappointed too, because I know they have such terrific musical talent but choose to waste it instead of showing it!! I am glad someone saw and wrote exactly what I was thinking! Hopefully Rascal Flatts reads this and gets the hint that we want a real show! Thank you for your honesty Whitney! You certainly recaptured the night for what it was...lame.

Lol at Not Again. As for angry fan, what didn't you like about the show? You do realize that Gary has been pretty ill with bronchitis. I'm surprised that they didn't cancel this weeks concerts as well. Gary really does need a longer break to get better.

Not Again Fri, Mar 30, 2007 at 09:15 PM EST

Why would you be mad when I was only joking? I made my peace with you hillbillies - I mean guys - earlier. Again, I am just kidding. It's all love in here now.

Angry fan Fri, Mar 30, 2007 at 03:42 PM EST

Saw RF concert on March 29th. I'll never pay to see another show. I wish Jason Aldean wouldv'e stayed on the stage!! My advice don't spend the money; you don't get what you pay for!!

Not Again Thu, Mar 29, 2007 at 04:29 PM EST

Yeah, I just couldn't be bothered to argue anymore. Like cockroaches, the RF fans just won't go away. So all I can do is make sure my kitchen is clean!

No, I'm kidding, guys. Really. Peace to all...

FlattsFan Mon, Mar 26, 2007 at 06:43 AM EST

I have seen Rascal Flatts in concert in February, and I loved it! I've seen other performers in concert, and this by far was the best! Gary, Jay and Joe Don were so appreciative of their fans, and it showed by the length of time they were on stage (at least an hour and a half), and through the energy and vocals they brought to the show. They even allowed people to take pictures of the performance, something that I've never been able to do at any other concert without losing my camera to security, and I have some amazing shots of them which will always keep the memory alive. For those of you bashing the Flatts, or Gary alone, that's fine, it's your opinion. I disagree with your opinion, but hey, that's life. However, I do think it's unnecessary to say things like "they suck" or "Gary sounds like a chipmunk". There are better ways to express your opinion. Now for those of you who are fans, please don't embarrass yourself or the group by resorting to name calling. The review...boring. :(

RASCAL FLATTS ALL THE WAY BABY!!.....KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BOYS!

Sat, Mar 24, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

yea Elsworth is a great song!

Educator Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 11:49 PM EST

Nice suggestions Fawn! I'd go w/ "It's Not Just Me" and "Long, Slow Beautiful Dance" off their debut, "Shine On" and "Too Good is True" off of Melt, "Then I Did" and "When the Sand Runs Out" off of Feels Like Today, and "I Feel Bad" and "Ellsworth" off of Me and My Gang. ;-) I want "Ellsworth" to be released as a single so much! I think it would really change a lot of people's opinions about RF.

reens Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 05:18 PM EST

Boy, miss a day...miss alot. I'd like to throw my 2 cents in, for what it's worth. (Probably only 2 cents. :p)
1. Rascal Flatts has alot of die hard fans. They're hugely successful and in large part due to these fans who defend them at all costs.
2. Whitney is a paid critic. She was doing her job. Of course, I'm not thrilled with the review, but it got all of our attention, didn't it? I suppose that was good journalism, like it or not.
3. This argument got pretty heated for a bit, but the mood is calming and I would like to apoligize for offending anyone. (I hope I don't regret that one.)

So, maybe this sometimes unhealthy debate won someone over to at least listen to RF, maybe not. But, it certainly was wildly entertaining. I'll continue to peek in and see what's going on in here, but no more mean posts. I promise. Only nice ones. Have a great night.

Fawn Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 04:28 PM EST

Not Again, I don't think you're full of yourself. Now don't fall over dead after that statement, lol. I'm not arguing. Gah. Its completely and utterly useless. I just think that Whitney should have given the guys more of a chance. I suggest to those who say Rascal Flatts sucks, to at least download and listen to more than just "What Hurts the Most" and "Life is A Highway", both are good, but to truly experience their talent, one should listen to more than those two songs. Try listening to "Praying for Daylight" or "Everyday Love", both of which are on their debut album which is self-titled. Or, try "I Melt" or "Mayberry" from their second album titled "Melt". They have an amazing vocal and musical range, and to experience it, one really should listen to a couple of songs off of each album.

Not Again Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 04:20 PM EST

Yes, and saying that I am full of myself isn't an attempt to bait me into continuing the debate at all, is it?

In fact, if you think there is no point in continuing the debate, why even come here and say there is no point? Doesn't make much sense. You would be better served to simply look and comment elsewhere.

Nothing more annoying than a hypocrite...

Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 04:05 PM EST

Rascal Flatts is good, but are they really worth all this pointless arguing? Neither side is ever going to give in, just accept it and move on. Rascal Flatts fans will of course defend them to their deaths, and this not again guy is so full of himself that hes going to exploit any possible hole so he continue the argument which he admits its pointless. So what's the point?

Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 04:03 PM EST

this is straight from the fam:

After wrapping 2006 as the best selling artist across all genres of music and playing to more than 1 million fans in 74 cities, Rascal Flatts show NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN! 2007 has found Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney just as busy, embarking on the second half of their hugely successful "Me And My Gang" tour and hitting the studio with award-winning producer Dann Huff to record music for their fifth studio album. The to-be-titled CD is confirmed to release on September 25, 2007!!!

Oops, I meant "centrist" not "centist". I suspect you all understood that, though.

One more thought regarding passion. Go back and review my main points from this discussion. Obviously, I have a passion for the rights of free speech and free press. Boring things to be passionate about, right? Well, perhaps that's just the way us old farts are, Educator. ;)

Not Again Fri, Mar 23, 2007 at 03:14 PM EST

Well, I wish I had more time to respond today, because I see the discussion heading in a more productive direction. I will, however, throw a couple of thoughts into the mix.

First and foremost, Educator, I am sorry to hear about your Mother. That is just awful, and I am not looking forward to the day that I have to endure that.

Secondly, while I can appreciate your passion for Rascal Flatts, that does not mean that I am not passionate about anything. I am passionate about most things in my life - music included.

What I saw on here didn't seem like passion as much as fanaticism. We may be misinterpreting that, as intent doesn't translate as well as it should online.

I think Hilarious and I fall under the designation of "centist". We are moderate, middle of the road kind of people. We have no time for fanaticism on either side of the debate - be it politics, music, religion, whatever. We most likely feel like there are more important issues in life.

Educator Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 11:46 PM EST

It's given me a sense of accomplishment. I've been a fan since the beginning, when RF could barely get 300 people to come to their shows. I joined their street team and promoted them. Now look at them. They're a household name and outselling everyone. I played a part in that. Being a fan has given me an outlet for when times are tough. "I'm Moving On" for when I lost my mom. "I Feel Bad" for when I got out of a bad relationship. "It's Not Just Me" for when I've cared for someone, but they didn't feel the same. I'm not saying that supporting RF is the only fulfilling thing in my life b/c it's not. I've got my family, friends, work, school, other hobbies. But my life is richer with RF in it. So if some of you on here don't understand where us fans are coming from, then perhaps you should take a look at yourselves and think about what you're passionate about in life. Because us RF fans have found a GREAT cause to support, and nothing anyone says can take that away from us.

Educator Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 11:33 PM EST

Have y'all missed me? :)
For the record Not Again, my boss LOVES RF. He lets me take off any day I want so I can go see them in concert. ;-) If he didn't though, would I call him an idiot to his face for not liking them? I don't know, he's from Brooklyn and can be a little scary in a Mafia kind of way.
I think it's only a matter of time before this article is removed and/or the comments are disabled. Let me say this though. It's obvious that some of you on here have never experienced a thing called passion. Criticize us fans all you want for being like we are. But I'm a firm believer that if everyone had at least one healthy obsession in their lives, then this world would be a much happier place. What has being an avid RF fan done for me? It's given me something to believe in and fight for, obviously. It's strengthened my bond w/ my sister (aka, my concert buddy). It's earned me many great friends through their fan club. To be continued...

Fawn Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 11:06 PM EST

I have been to a few concerts in my young life, and Rascal Flatts is right up there with Tim McGraw and Chris LeDoux double headlining in concert. All are amazing! I paid good money to see them, and would do it again in a heartbeat! Chris was an amazing performer, and many artists been inspired by him. There are country artists still trying to make it who look to Rascal Flatts, Chris Young, Sugarland, SHeDaisy, Bucky Covington, etc., etc. Not Again, you don't like this newer country muisc. Okay, cool. Hilarious, you sound like you prefer some Waylon above all else. Fine with me. The only thing I have a problem with is when people who have a predisposed idea of what a concert is going to be like, and then just not giving the artist a chance. That was my whole diatribe with Britney. My friend liked her, and my friend's husband didn't. He bought tickets for his wife. He went with her. He enjoyed the show till the headset incident occured.

Fawn Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 10:57 PM EST

Okay, just one question for you two. Did you not read my previous post? Albeit that there happen to be couple of not so small grammatical errors, I do believe I made or at least attempted to make a point. Hilarious, I don't care if she doesn't like Rascal Flatts. I also don't care if people don't like the Dixie Chicks. Neither group is everyone's cup of tea. But good grief, to express it such a rude appearing way is going too far! Do I think Rascal Flatts is an awesome group? YES! Are the best group ever? To that I say, not neccessarily. That is left up to one's own opinion. Do I think that they have the potential to become the next "Alabama"? YES! I am a fan, and I am in the fan club and proud of it! Comparing a group to a single artist is like apples to oranges, as another person has said. Though, the whole Bono thing? Way off base with that! I was raised in the era of Garth as well.
