'Men' will get a second season in 'Trees'!

Trees_l True confessions time: I'm still six episodes behind on Men in Trees this season, and while I've not once considered flushing it from my overburdened DVR, I think I've subconsciously avoided a full commitment to the kicky Anne Heche dramedy for fear of its imminent cancellation. Well, now it looks like I'm gonna have to take the plunge (much like adorable Patrick and Annie), as ABC has made the surprising decision to include Men in its early pickup of 14 series (including Brothers & Sisters, Ugly Betty, and The Bachelor). Did ABC's decision have anything to do with your impassioned pleas for a second season in our recent "bubble shows" PopWatch item? Or perhaps our own Mandi Bierly's early devotion to the show? While there's no evidence to support either theory, I'm choosing to believe it until proven otherwise. I'll be cracking open a cheap bottled beer tonight to celebrate. Now, which show do we save next?

Close To Home. I have read it is "on the bubble" because it often comes in 2nd (barely!) in the 19 - 49 demographics. It wins the others!Interesting stories and good interplay among the main characters have made it a favorite of mine and many of my friends. This season's addition of David James Elliott to the cast has made it even better. It consistently wins its time slot and usually is rated in the Nielsen's between 27 and 35. With a little work and the expansion of DJE's character, Jimmy Conlon, it would only go higher in the ratings.

I'm pleased ABC is giving Men in Trees a chance, although I fear that it will be put back on Friday night, a difficult slot for any flegling series. Men in Trees has had an uneven first season, but I think Trees' run could be the opposite of it's tv cousin Northern Exposure. Northern Exposure exploded out of the gate with a brilliant first three seasons. Then in the fourth, it began to self-destruct. By the sixth and last season, the show was a shell of itself. Men in Trees' first-year struggles may be a blessing in disguise, for Jenny Bicks and the other writers know they can't rest on their laurels if they want the show to survive.

If there's another show I would like to see get renewed, it's definitely Veronica Mars. I don't watch it regularly, but it's a good series with the most devoted fan base of any show on tv. A fourth year would bring the series' episode count over 80, ensuring a mass syndication deal. And then even more people could get exposed to Veronica Mars.

Friday Night Lights! Amazing cast, amazing writing, amazing show!

LisaMama Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 08:19 AM EST

Hooray for Men in Trees! Great show.
Now, please save Friday Night Lights!

Joyce Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 08:12 AM EST

Please save MEDIUM. PLEASE? PLEASE? PLEASE? I truly enjoy the relationship btwn Joe and Allison. Especially the episode where Allison wakes up as someone else and Joe is trying to convince her she is Allison. Talk about use of a great song the whole episode; like a star by corrine bailey rae. Also, they used lullaby by Dixie Chicks last year before Grey's used it in their season opener this year. In the episode where Allison imagines how life would have turned out if she had finished law school and not married Joe. Plus, their daughter Ariel is a hoot! PLEASE, don't do this to me!!!

Sara Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 07:33 AM EST

CLEAR EYES FULL HEARTS CAN'T LOSE! Bring back Friday Night Lights!!!!

Katie Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 07:15 AM EST

Since no one else put it and it really needs the help.....PLEASE SAVE "JERICHO". That show highlights both the best and the worst of human natrue and make you think while enteratining you. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!

Kathy Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 07:12 AM EST

Friday Night Lights!!!!!! Best show on tv period! It's a shame that shows with intelligent writing, gripping storylines and devoted (although small) fan bases have to beg for a second season when shows like The Bachelor keep coming back!

Stacy Thu, Mar 22, 2007 at 03:59 AM EST

I am so thrilled to see Men In Trees is coming back! That show feels like a cozy sweater comforting you on a cold, dreary day. I'd like to see 30 Rock and The Class come back. I'd also really like to see Jericho come back so I can find out exactly who ordered the dropping of the bombs. (The show has really gotten good since it came back from it's break.)

If you didn't hearing about the rumblings last week about its cancellation, which were a bit premature, "Veronica Mars" is really, really at risk and needs support now. The plans for next season, jumping 4 yrs ahead to Veronica in the FBI, sounds promising. PLEASE EW, HELP SAVE THIS SHOW. PEOPLE, WATCH THIS SHOW!!! Better yet, watch the show and write/send e-mails to the CW!!!!

Snsetblaze Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 10:30 PM EST

Studio 60.

And if any old series like My Name is Earl or Smallville were "on the bubble" I'd vote for them to be saved.

shelley Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 09:08 PM EST

friday night lights!

shelley Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 09:08 PM EST

friday night lights!

mike Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 07:13 PM EST

Knights of Prosperity was the first show I've watched on ABC in years ... and they're probably going to cancel it. No wonder the Big Networks target demos are spending more time on the Net than watching their shows.

Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 06:44 PM EST

Friday Night Lights needs a little more time for it to develop more fans, and I'm too committed to Veronica Mars for the CW to take it off the air yet.

Barbara Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 06:42 PM EST

Friday Night Lights. Watch it tonight, 8:00 ET/7:00 CT on NBC! And then watch it again tomorrow on the NBC web site.

Stephanie Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 06:14 PM EST

Black Donelley's, 30 Rock, and Andy Barker. The pilot for In Case of Emergency was a chuckle, but since then it's not funny.

Kelli Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 06:00 PM EST

Think goodness for second chances. I love Men in Trees.

lizzbert Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:59 PM EST

Save Veronica Mars!!!!!!!!!!!

colbyfan Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:41 PM EST

That's great news; I have watched Men In Trees all season. I have also watched The Class which though clunky at first has really grown on me. Hopefully, there is no need to vote for 30 Rock or Friday Night Lights as only an idiot would cancel either one of them. And Veronica Mars has been saved so many times that I think it may be a lost cause this time so I don't want to waste my vote. Hello CW - is there a proposed sequel to Pussycat Dolls - are they becoming a football team or something? Seriously, why wouldn't that show have better ratings than Veronica Mars? Women in short shorts versus a smart, irreverent heroine who doesn't need a guy? Doh. SO, let's save Dirt which is just starting to get good - and there's lots of short shorts.

val Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:37 PM EST

what about brian

Laura Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:28 PM EST

Veronica Mars!! Please save Veronica Mars!!!!!!!!

Ep sato Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:17 PM EST

Oh yea, FNL and 30 Rock deserve to be re upped too.

Ep sato Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:16 PM EST

Oh man, Knights of Prosperity and In case of Emergency aren't on that list. I normally try to express sadness with some form of class but today I'll just say "man, THAT SUCKS"

Ceballos Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:15 PM EST

I'm glad Men in Trees is back, and I hope a lot of the shows people are mentioning come back.

I have to ask? Why is "The Bachelor" coming back?? Honestly, who's still watching this. I didn't realize it was still on when the last season with the "Prince" premiered, and I didn't realize it was coming back soon until i saw a commercial during "DWTS"
TV's already overpopulated with crappy reality shows taking the place of deserving comedies and drama, so, again, why is THAT coming back.
Also, bring back 30 Rock or I'll stab NBC like Tracy Jordan almost stabbed Conan O'Brien!

Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:15 PM EST

Friday Night Lights!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Aaron Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 05:02 PM EST

30 Rock and Six Degrees (This show is UNDERRATED!)

dbldn11 Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:56 PM EST

Friday Night Lights. Studio 60. 30 Rock. Scrubs.

KC Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:55 PM EST

Wow...first let me do a happy dance for my top "please save it" pick. Woo hoo for Men in Trees.

Now...though I love Veronica Mars, I'm going to go with Friday Night Lights as my 2nd most favored pick. It's just plain wonderful & they've only got 1 season under their belt.

laura Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:54 PM EST

Glad to give this news to my sis that was about to cry if her fave show ' men on trees' was cancel.

Thanks ABC for being smart.

Allan Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:40 PM EST

Friday Night Lights for sure!

Isa Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:32 PM EST

CBS: The Class! NBC: Studio 60 too!

Christina Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:28 PM EST

The Black Donnelly's. I didn't expect to like this show but I do. Give it chance people, please!

My main question about Men In Trees is when are they going to air the rest of this season. It looks like its been pushed out of the way for that insipid October Road. Put it back on already ABC!

Karla Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:14 PM EST

Is 30 Rock on the bubble? If so, save it!

Jessica Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 04:10 PM EST

Veronica Mars!

Amanda Wed, Mar 21, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

Veronica Mars & The Black Donnellys!!!!
