Gumby's digital makeover

Gumby's turning 50, so you can forgive him for wanting a facelift. When I first heard that Gumby was getting a digital makeover for the 21st century, I feared the worst — a CGI Gumby would be sacrilege, no? Fortunately, according to this New York Daily News article, it's just a digital remastering of the classic clunky claymation clips, made to look brand spankin' new on forthcoming DVDs and a big-screen re-release of 1995's Gumby Movie. The old episodes are also being released to YouTube; the first one is below. Check it out and tell us if you think the renovated green guy looks too pristine, or if he's still Gumby, dammit.

he still looks pretty freakish to me..and I mean that in a GOOD way...I had Gumby/Pokey dolls as a kid and they rule...

Or worse, that Spielberg remakes it so all the guns are walkie talkies.

Okay, it's not as good as the line about Lucas...

I just hope George Lucas doesn't interfere and change it so that Gumby shoots first.

Oh my god, Gary, that episode takes me back. I always remember Gumby as being a wierd cartoon, nothing like He-Man or Voltron.
Seeing that episode reminds me of the old ride at Disneyland, Mission to Mars and it's whole archaic view of space - oh the 50's!

After his performance in Shrek, it would make sense to have Eddie Murphy go back and be redubbed as the voice of Gumby.

I'm still loving this line of Eddie's: You may have seen a housefly, a dgragonfly, maybe even a super fly, but you ain't ever seen no donkey fly!
