Which bubble shows deserve to live?

Medium_l Attention, TV lovers: The dreaded "bubble season" is upon us, and networks are scrutinizing their lineups, trying to decide which existing series to pick up for the fall season, and which to bag up and toss in the dumpster. A story in today's Variety notes that the following series are still awaiting their fates, and that ratings from the coming weeks could be a deciding factor: ABC's Men in Trees, Six Degrees, What About Brian (UGH! Cancel it!), The Knights of Prosperity, According to Jim, and George Lopez; CBS' Jericho, The Class, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Close to Home, and Rules of Engagement; Fox's The War at Home, 'Til Death, Standoff, and newcomers The Winner and The Wedding Bells; the CW's Veronica Mars, All of Us, and 7th Heaven; and NBC's 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Medium, Crossing Jordan, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. (I'd count Scrubs, too, but if NBC doesn't pick it up for the 2007-2008 season, it appears ABC will.)

There are at least four or five series on the list that are currently on my DVR rotation, but I thought it would be fun to force myself (and all of you) to use this blog item to argue for the renewal of one show — and one show only. So with apologies to Tina Fey and Anne Heche, here goes my pitch:

Dear NBC,

I was horrified to see my beloved Medium's future in jeopardy — especially since any ratings decline the show has experienced is your own stupid fault. Why couldn't you have left the supernatural detective series back in its old Monday at 10 p.m. timeslot, where it would've been a perfect lead-out from your breakout freshman hit, Heroes? Instead, you gave the position to the incompatible Studio 60, which has squandered Heroes' big audience (and wasted several hours of my life that I'll never get back). Not only that, Medium continues to cook up spooky, innovative storylines — like that doozy from a few weeks back about the murderous doll — while also serving as the sweetest, most realistic portrayal of a modern working family on network TV. Did I mention Medium is often a hoot, too, thanks to the versatile Patricia Arquette (pictured), and the adorable Maria Lark as middle child Bridgette? Plus NBC, if Variety is right, and it's gonna come down to either Medium or Crossing Jordan, just remember which one scored an Emmy for its leading lady.

It had been expected that those who were not compliant with the World Health Organization's (WHO) GMP standards would be forced to cease operations but the MoH has now softened its stance.

But things are not too bad! Recently there was initiated a new project "International Calligraphic Exhibitoin". Its main goal is to form beautiful and healthy society through the art of calligraphy. The exhibition will be opened on Seprember 16th at the St.Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture n.a. I.E. Repin. I think Crossing Jordan should be saved. Unlike most other networks NBC shoots itself in the foot. The constant changing of schedules and a show being on a few weeks then off for a few months is what causes their low ratings. There was a show last Fall that had Jeremy Sisto that my fiance and I both liked and like that, it moved from Monday to Wednesday to Saturday all in like 3 weeks. Do they not want viewers? I have loved Crossing Jordan since the beginning but, since I don't have TiVO of a DVR it was hard to catch it. Give the shows a change, quit shuffling. People want to watch your shows and nothing's preventing it but you. Take a cue from CBS a let the shows run their course. Give them more than 3 episodes at 3 different time slots, let them build a following. Most shows are not very successful during premire month, everyone is trying to watch everything. But by the 2nd or 3rd months, they have settled into their routines. So NBC bring back Crossing Jordan, give it another chance

I am quite disappointed that Crossing Jordan is missing from the Fall 2007 lineup. I am not too sure what NBC is up to, but succeeding in ratings doesn't seem to be one of their goals.

STANDOFF!!!
Standoff definitely deserves a chance to show us what else it can do! The first eleven episodes were just amazing! The story is unique! The casting was pure genius! The chemistry between Ron Livingston and Rosemarie DeWitt is beyond HOTT! And I can't wait until it comes back on April 6th! This show has the potential to be great but unfortunately it was handed the pooey end of the scheduling stick! These new episodes will prove that Standoff should stay on TV! Please give it a chance!!!

SAVE Jericho!!!! It's different and definitely not boring. I get disappointed when I see the clock winding down to the end! Great hanger last night and now I hear it's a longshot to be back?

Also, The Class. Finally, a good comedy that isn't a reality show. I actually started watching the WHOLE Monday night line-up because of that one show!

A lot of these shows deserve to be saved. The networks just dump any new show that "fails" after 2 episodes for something else "new" sitting on the shelf. On the same note, networks just need to stop playing "musical time slots" along with the mid-season, 3 month "breaks". Can't watch a show and support it if I can't find it!

JERICHO!! This show is innovative, the writing is great, the cast is superb. It is nice to finally watch a program that is not a yet another medical drama, forensic drama, police drama, 'channeling-the-other-world' drama or lame 'un'-reality show. CBS has given us a show we can debate and dissect and still have us coming back for more. Do not let this show get away, it is a true gem!

Medium - don't make it pay for your mistakes. We never miss a show and it doesn't fit the box. There's a lot of other less original shows you could cut. It's not the reason your in last place, its your management of its time slot.

I Really LOVE Jericho. It has the potential of really becoming a great show if given another chance. It's the first show in a long time that has me at the egde of my seat each week and impatiently waiting for the next episode. Save Medium....it's a great show, and any decline in ratings is because of NBC's stupid decision to move into a slot against Lost. Medium had a great following, much like Lost does. But people who watch a serial program like Lost know that if you miss one episode YOU going to be completely Lost. NBC just set up Medium to choke. People who are fans of both (like me) are going to watch Lost first go round and wait to watch Medium in reruns come summer. Where as last year I never missed a Monday of Medium. Whoever made this incredibly stupid decision should be canned immediately. Anyone with half a brain would've known that pitting Medium against Lost was a no win situation.

I would like to think that Close to Home would be renewed for another year. I'm a lawyer and my wife and I have a young baby and we are at home on Friday nights and enjoy the show. From a legal standpoint it tries to be on target and I enjoy the ladies. However, the last episode which stared David James Elliott was outstanding. His ability to represent the legal profession is outstanding. He takes over the courtroom and is totally a fine representation of the trial lawyer. I had not seen that much of the actor before but he certainly commands my respect and future attention. This is a smart show. Keep it on television.

Close to Home should be given a third season. It's one of the better more intelligent shows on TV now. Cress Williams and Kimberly Elise are both excellent actors and should be given more storytime along with Mr. Elliott and Mr. Seda. I feel there is a lot of unused talent.

Medium and Crossing Jordan should be on the schedule for next season. It's NBC's own fault for changing their timeslots so many times - will it be midseason or not - both of their return dates changed at least half a dozen times this season. Last year, these two shows were the only marginal ratings victories on NBC...now NBC has abandoned these shows for Heroes. In my opinion, Medium is a much better show than the show it competes with on Wednesdays at 10. Unlike Lost, mysteries are actually solved!

Jericho!

It should not be cancelled because first and for most, the writing and casting is excellent. Of course, a lot of good shows get cancelled, however Jericho is different because... it's different.
Its not a cop show, medical drama, an "I see dead people and help them" show, and is not a forensics show. They are way too many of them around now, and Jericho is different, and yet it touches on those subjects a little here and there. People have been begging for something different, and here it is.
Its awesome and worth watching.
Keep it alive please!

I'd like to see Numbers moved to 9 pm and Close to Home moved to 10 pm. Then they'll be able to see if it's just a 9:00 timeslot problem or if CTH just belongs at a later hour. And lighten up the camera, will ya? We'd sure like to actually be able to see their faces! Do keep Close to Home, give it a chance and bring DJE back to the fore where he belongs. Then it'll be just right.

Veronica Mars is a smart, witty, fabulously acted show. Please keep it on the air. I'm a 32 year old male and my wife and I religiously watch this show. We, much like Stephen King, can't actually believe how much we look forward to it every week. It has only gotten better with each season. We especially like how the show has reduced it's season long mystery to 3 mini ones. It makes the show tighter and allows the audience an easier opportunity to solve the mysteries themselves.

Kristen Bell is a fabulous actress and will be a huge star one day. I'm sure of it. Her sassy strong female character is a beacon of light in an industry that is saturated with terrible role models for young women. CW, I hate to praise you and insult you and the same time, but The Search For the Next Pussycat Doll is horrendous. It feels like those girls are being bred to be whores.

I think Close to Home should be given a 3rd season. David James Elliott is a fine actor, we are just getting to see more of his character. So I think it wouldnt be fair to fans if it was cancelled. And I dont know what DJE board someone was referring to in their post below, where they said he would be embarassed if he visited there.. but it is not the fordje board on Voy. Everyone there is very respectful, and there is no bashing,or anything said or done that is any way disrespectful to DJE. We just admire the man,, so we would like to see CTh continue for a 3rd season.

Veronica Mars is, without a doubt, one of the smartest tv shows ever written. It deserves to be renewed. The acting is great, the chemistry between the cast members is wonderful, and something that very few shows can manage to attain..and it comes through on each episode. Kristen Bell is fabulous: funny, beautiful, brilliant..this is the role most of us will always remember her for. If anyone here has any doubt that Veronica Mars is a show worth saving, rent the first season, or borrow it from a friend, or check your local library..I would be shocked if you aren't hooked after the first few episodes of season one.
