As if we didn't like Alec Baldwin enough...

Alecbaldwin_l ...the guy goes and pays for a young soldier's college education — three years in advance. Baldwin was so moved by a March 4 New York Times feature (reprinted here) on Resha Kane's last day with friends and family before shipping overseas for three years that he personally tracked down her mom and has arranged to meet her in person next week. Baldwin has criticized the war in Iraq but wants to demonstrate his support for the troops. We like Kane's mom's use of "shock and awe" in the context of Alec Baldwin. The question is, would Baldwin's 30 Rock character pull a move like this? In other words, WWJDD?

I WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT ALEC AND HIS PARENTING KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND SHE MAYNOT GROW UP LIKE COURTNEY LOVE OR OTHER PROBLEM STARS CHILDREN... AND MEDIA STOP TRYIN TO PARENT YOU DONE IT FOR A WHILE AND YOU ALL MESS UP ALOT OF KIDS

Um, the Montgomery GI Bill reimburses your expenses up to a certain limit - not just tuition.

Actually, I don't think Alec is a jerk. I don't think much about him one way or another.

However, if I just came back from the Middle East, I'd think I'd rather have him pay for medical expenses for one of my comrades (or mine, if I had them) than I would have him pay for my college.

If I'm cynical about anything, it's this war and the support that our military will NOT be when they get back - not Alec Baldwin.

Have I been in college lately? No, but I well aware of the costs. More importantly, have you been in the military lately?

Trust me, mate, for the guys/girls coming back, they have more important things to worry about than paying for school.

I can't believe this is the same Alec Baldwin who was on Working Girl. On Working Girl, I wanted to see his back side when Tess found him sleeping with Dorine DeMuchie; now, I would run from it.

LOSE THE WEIGHT ALEC!

Ron, have you had a kid in college lately? There's a lot more to paying for college than tuition - and the GI Bill does nothing for the other expenses. Let's all be a little less cynical and even if you think A. Baldwin is a jerk (which I do) - this is a good thing to do.

Snarky: Baldwin offered to keep his good deed private. That was an option he offered the Kane family. He was ready to just send them a check and have it done with. It was they who chose to go public with this, not him.

Oops, I meant "while" not "will". Maybe I need Alec's educational assistance. LOL...

Ron Mexico Sat, Mar 31, 2007 at 12:27 PM EST

Actually, unless the soldier didn't enroll in the Montgomery GI Bill, he should have his education pretty sewn up without Mr. Baldwin's help.

Under the Montgomery GI Bill, the soldier is eligible for up to $20,000 in tuition.

If he decides to take classes will still enlisted, there is VA tutition assistance that will pay for 75% of his tuition.

Mr. Baldwin should take that money and donate it to the medical care that these poor guys are going to need when they come back from the Middle East with NO support system from our government.

Just a thought.

Great press release...not

He is being generous for an alleged former wife beater. Three Cheers for Alec!

Juju Fri, Mar 30, 2007 at 08:33 PM EST

Since he is feeling so generous, why not pay for my next two years of college?

Snarky Fri, Mar 30, 2007 at 06:18 PM EST

I'd be impressed if he kept this good deed private.
