One reason he can't host the Oscars is because the NATO will probably lobby to have him off the show. That's the National Association of Theatre Owners. He openly mocked and ridiculed them (and moviegoing as a whole) in his monologue. The movies are more than just the Oscars and studios.

Have you noticed that the Oscar broadcast is now consistent with going out to the red carpet and gushing over how the women look and who is with who and who's wearing which designer's clothes that will be on a rack in a couple of months. By the time everyone is seated, the host comes out and when they do what brought them on stage in the first place, people are bored. Then, 3 and a half hours later, it's over. Why don't they just give the awards of any awards show out in the parking lot. I'd rather watch the fights break out.

DaisyJ is so on the money with that comment. I've seen trailers that were MUCH better than the movie they were shilling. If a great trailer gets me into a crappy movie, it shouldn't be reason to punish the filmmaker, but instead reason to reward the brains behind the ad campaign...

I say "Don't do it Jerry!" No matter what type of job you do, you'll get trashed. I thought the last 3 hosts were all good but no one seems to be deemed good enough. The problem isn't the hosts. The problem is the material...who can liven up a 4 hour awards show that only contains about an hours worth of material that we're really interested in?

Anna - Here's the rule of the Academy Website...

" In any year in which 8 to 15 animated features are released in Los Angeles County, a maximum of 3 films may be nominated. In any year in which 16 or more animated features are submitted and accepted in the category, a maximum of 5 films may be nominated."

I remember the year Spirited Away won there were 5 films. I bet there will only be 3 this year.

Unfortunately....
As early screenings show, "Bee Movie" (fantastic teaser trailers notwithstanding) just isn't that good. The plot changes focus no fewer than three times. The animation may be pretty, but the script isn't--and Chris Rock is only around for FIVE MINUTES.

Oh oh, I'm sensing a tight Animated Feature race. Hopefully there are enough to have 5 nominees because the following 4 are going to duke it out
*Shrek The Third
*That hard to spell Pixar Rat Movie
*Bee Movie
*The Simpsons Movie

I hope Shrek gets left off. Lord knows we don't need anymore obvious pop culture references.
