'The O.C.' finale: Life is a dream

Feb 23, 2007, 04:29 PM | by Annie Barrett

Categories: Television

Ocblog_l I cried... let's just say "numerous" times during the last O.C. ever. Opening titles. Seth's childhood growth chart that the midwife and wedding planner (whoa, convenient) thought were termites. Sophie Cohen. The Marissa locket. Flapjacks. Summer's final "Ew!" regarding Taylor's blog. The G.E.O.R.G.E. bus pulling away, which led into AN ENTIRE SCENE ABOUT THE BAGEL SLICER in which Sandy and Kirsten treated it like a member of the family, which it was, OH MY GOD. At that point, I progressed into a flailing combination of sobs, giggles, and awe. I was a total mess. There was so much couch-writhing I think I even turned a somersault. It was unattractive.

Then there were the last few minutes or so of just absolute O.C. perfection, from the moment Kirsten called out "It's time to go!" and Sandy said "Yep." Oh, hey, my own tears, I'd really missed you for the last 45 seconds. Glad you're back. Cue the best Seth-Ryan moment ever, in which they consummated their blood-brotherly love with a real hug! And then they couldn't stop grinning about each other, but to themselves, if that makes any sense. I watched it 14 times so I know exactly what I'm talking about, obviously.

Ryan walking through the empty Cohen house made me break down the hardest. Each new room triggered a different scene from the first episodes of the series. That, plus the way the house resembled season 1's model home, made it seem like the whole story was starting over. I probably melted the most right after the shot of Sandy and Kirsten saying Ryan would be staying with them for awhile cut to present-day Ryan, launching a meaningful power-glare towards the kitchen. Even he had a tear. How could you not?

And the song hadn't even begun! The last and best-ever O.C. music montage showed the future versions of everyone. Summer took activism a little too far and wore peace-sign earrings. Seth had a bedroom. Sandy became a law professor, which is so perfect because it was either that or surf instructor and I suppose his undying work ethic translates better in the classroom. Kaitlin and (Team) Julie went to college! Summer and Seth got married, and Ryan wore a yarmulke (of the non-"claus" variety). Sophie and the adorable Little Boy Coop looked just like Kiki and JuJu. And, like the series, the entire song opened and closed on Ryan. This time, instead of pairing up with Sandy, Architectural Ryan noticed a kid in bad shape and became Sandy. You couldn't ask for a better parting shot.

"Hey, kid. Need any help?"

OMG OMG OMG! i just started watching the OC a couple months ago and now i have watched all the seasons, episode by episode, until i reached the finale today. i realize that i wasnt a "true OC fan", that i wasnt there at the start. but that doesnt mean it didnt touch me like everyone else. im really gonna miss ryan's moody glances and soulful eyes, seth's witty remarks and messy Jew-fro, summer's spunk& attitude and button nose, sandy's paternal nurturing, kirsten's loving gestures, julie's whore-like behavior (haha!), kaitlin's snobby-turned-understanding attitude, and taylor's awkwardness and pretty much hilariousness. this show was completely awesome and im gonna miss it soooooooo much!
did anyone catch that thing at the end of the finale where summer is about to leave seth on the GEORGE bus and she says, ill see you in '08 after the new hampshire primary? that was cool cause that happened pretty recently (when obama made his famous Yes We Can speech)
Anyway, we will miss you, OC!!

Janice Wed, Jan 23, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

I just watched the last episode last night and I cried. It was so touching and the perfect ending to a great show.

julz Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 09:42 PM EST

can someone tell me WHY the show had to end?...i just feel like it could have went on for sooo many years....!...i thought the end was really rushed..they could have at least make 24 episodes like in the other seasons....what the hell happened?

:) Mon, Oct 15, 2007 at 02:38 AM EST

the ending song is called life is a song - patrick park

mary Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 03:29 PM EST

Adam Thu, Aug 16, 2007 at 06:26 AM EST

Oh my god, its gone... Even now, 6 months later... I still miss it. It was the best episode ever, I just wanted a few more minuets...

Howard Fri, Aug 3, 2007 at 12:26 AM EST

I just watched it... oh my god...

Abbi Fri, Jun 8, 2007 at 12:07 PM EST

The O.C is my life and i have never watched it on T.V i have alwaya bought the boxset all the way throught season 4 i didnt watch it untill i heard abouot the final EP EVER!!! Even then i was crying the final episode in my opinion was the best ever... i cried all the way through it! The most emotionall would be Summer on the bus and Seth watching his true leave him...I have never really cared about Ryan's part in it sll just Seths and Summers but the final ending where Ryan helps that kid made me cry!!!!I know they said it is finished but i am still hoping for someone to say it is back on.But as much as i hope deep down inside i know it wont! But i still think that they could of lead it on a bit longer but for a last minute thing it was amazing i have just got the box set and beging to watch it from seson one knowing that i have all the episodes... and no more to come
i hope all you O.C fellow fans think the same as me and well i love the O.C so much x x x x

Bec Mon, May 28, 2007 at 01:26 AM EST

I agree that the oc was defiently rushed on the last show.

Beau Mon, Mar 19, 2007 at 12:25 AM EST

I thought the finale was too rushed and disorganized. The cancellation threw the OC writers off guard, and I wonder what they had planned if the show wasn't cancelled. Do Julie and Kaitlynn continue to live in Dr. Roberts' house seemingly rent-free while she's in college? How can he be gone for SO long? Why did Taylor and Ryan apparently break up again during those six months after the earthquake? And why did Taylor go to France? What did she do there? Did Jean-Marc being there enter into it? And what became of Seth in future years? We were never shown that. But I guess I should have expected that; at the beginning of this season I wondered how they could have a show with Summer out east, Ryan at Berkeley, and Seth at home until his artist course kicks in in January. I never considered ALL those visits back and forth from California to Boston. Boy, those characters sure have time and money to do that, I guess. A little more attention to detail was what the finale needed.

harmony Sun, Mar 4, 2007 at 08:25 PM EST

Taylor and Ryan didn't end up together. They reunited when she returned from France, however, she went off to France again to indicate that it was just a temporary thing between them. Thus, why she figure out that he will not be coming back for holiday breaks since the Cohens might be moving to Berkely. When it was confirmed it was why she went back to France. When they were at Summer and Seth's wedding they exchanged shy glances, they haven't seen each other in awhile. Ryan went his own way and she went hers.

Here we are 10 days after 'The OC' finale and there is still an empty pit in my stomach. Looking back, I have to give major props to the casting director of this show. From Peter Gallagher to Adam Brody to Autumn Reeser..even to Samaire Armstrong as Anna.. every actor seemed like the perfect fit. The series finale made me weep and I had thought I was a mature man in my 30's. That last image of Ryan reaching out to the troubled kid is one of the 10 best moments in TV history. Wish this show had continued on for another 4 seasons. And not that it's any kind of consolation, but I am hoping for an 'OC' reunion.

spike901 Sat, Mar 3, 2007 at 06:29 AM EST

That was so sad im not normaly one to cry but if u didnt ur subhuman scum

Paula Wed, Feb 28, 2007 at 10:17 PM EST

Summer "real life jake broke up with real life april" (reading about the Valley)
Tylor: "OMG, is that show still on?"
Summer: " The show got pick up for five more seasons. This teen dramas, they just run up forever"
HAHAHAHAA... I love when they make fun of themself, I'm going to miss you Oc.

liz c Wed, Feb 28, 2007 at 09:45 AM EST

OMG I just realized they named Sophie after The Nana!! Sophie Cohen was The Nana's real name. How sweet!!! *cries*

liz carroll Wed, Feb 28, 2007 at 09:27 AM EST

Annie, thanks for the great recaps of The OC. I'll miss them. What a sad finale!

Phil Wed, Feb 28, 2007 at 01:23 AM EST

The entire 4th season is avilable on iTunes for just $29.99! Still no word on when the season will be released on dvd. I'm actually not sure what song was used in Julie's not-so-wedding to Bullit, but iTunes also has a music from the O.C. section you could check out!

jools Tue, Feb 27, 2007 at 08:21 PM EST

does anyone know how I can download a copy of the last episode, the finale? I missed the last half!

DCBaxter Tue, Feb 27, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

I loved the review and everyone's comments. I have to admit I hated season 3. Hated it. Get angry when the boyfriend gets the epi's on Netflix. Want them to go back immediately.

But the finale definitely was great. I think it would have been funny if they had Julie and Kirsten's kids make eyes at each other or something (a la Ryan and Marissa, hello???) Then again they were, like, six.

I did feel the finale was satisfying but two things that I thought were totally obviously missing were a) Captain Oats and b) Princess Sparkle. these two props were MAJOR for Seth and Summer. I wish they had exchanged them when she went off with G.E.O.R.G.E. I think Josh missed the boat on that one.

megan Tue, Feb 27, 2007 at 12:42 AM EST

Anyone know the name of the song from the almost-wedding between Julie and Bullit? I loved that one almost as much as the final music montage.

Ryan Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

With Marissa off the show, I was glad to see it end. Season 4 was "not flattering" to the series as a whole. I was kind of hoping that Ryan would wake up and Marissa's death was all a dream, allthough I know it would have been cheesy. In the second to last episode, I thought maybe Ryan would die and they would bury him next to Marissa in the finale. The one thing that sticks with me as a mistake was them not showing Marissa's funeral or even flashbacks of it. Someone said earlier that season 4 seemed like a different show. I couldn't agree more. But I must say good job on the finale working with what was left. I couldn't have done better. Thankyou for the laughter and tears. my four boxed sets will be watched many times. Goodbye, OC...

KEvin Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 01:29 PM EST

Thanks for keeping up the TV Watch Annie, even if it is in the Pop Watch section. I loved this show so much, I even gave it a chance during the bad times. But nothing tops talking about the OC on Thursday morning with my best friend, when i should clearly be working. Later OC fans. Until next time!

thwarted Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 01:25 PM EST

jeez, your recap made me want to bawl all over again. was that the best ending ever or what?

THE DIDDY Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM EST

I am a 25 year old male and have watched since the 4th ep of season 1! I have to say that this was my favorite drama of all time to this point. Just all around great show! My fav shows just keep dying off (First arrested dev., now this! Watch out OFFICE!) Great end to the show, as I told my girlfriend, "If Seth and Summer don't end up together, I won't be able to comprehend this show at all! Then the bus happened, and I thought, WELL, MAYBE, this is the best for them, and then they got married. I agree that the best way to end the show was the flash forwarding of things! They just could not have wrapped it up without going ahead in time! RIP O.C.

jen Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST

just when i thought i was over it...i read this review and the tears begin to well. great, fantastic, superb episode, review and ending. i'm definitely going to miss this show!!

akerockstar Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 03:34 AM EST

wow...such a wonderful finale. i just knew i was going to cry, even though i tried not to. i got teary eyed at least 3 times...lol. if you've watched it from the beginning like me, then you know why. it was really touching. actually, one of the best finales i've ever seen. i did not expect the age progression scenes, but i'm glad they did it. that was a perfect way to resolve things. oh man i'll miss this show. R.I.P. The O.C.

beachmom Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 08:29 PM EST

O M G ! this ep is never going to be erased from my DVR! i had to delay watching it until my daughter got home from vaca...WOW! those last minutes were just amazing...we were both sobbing. seeing season one ryan and seth was just too much! that glimpse of marissa - heart wrenching! now we feel like we have to re-watch season one...
thanks annie for all the laughs! fridays won't be the same w/out your recap!!!
but maybe you can now recap 30 rock every week?

Ed Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 08:05 PM EST

Great ending...I want to echo the comment about Willa Holland--the relationship with Bullet was very sweet and funny, and it made for some of the best moments in the last few shows.

Maeve Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 04:29 PM EST

My heart is so, so heavy. I'm just not ready to say goodbye to these people.
Annie, thanks for all the recaps. They were always hilarious.

Phil Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 03:29 PM EST

I have to admit, the finale was not only touching, but so good it makes me even sadder that the road stops here for the Cohen Atwood Coopers. There were plenty of in-jokes already mentioned through-out the episode, but did ANYONE else catch the name on the sign the driver was holding when Summer picked up Taylor at the airport at the beginning? SCHWARTZ, Yes, as in the creator JOSH SCHWARTZ! Annie, i thought you would have caught this, especially if you watched it 14 times and I only saw it once! Annie, as always, its been a pleasure, here's hoping you'll be assigned another dramedy I'll fall in love with next year to replace the hole where my heart for the O.C.was...

Emmarq Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 01:57 PM EST

Thanks for all the commentaries Annie! I'll miss reading them! I didn't realize quite how much the OC ending would affect me - I started watching it in college and now college is over and the OC is over and I feel like my youth has ended! I will definately miss Ryan and Seth and I'll really miss the fun of this season's Ryan/Taylor relationship.

Rachel Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 12:02 PM EST

Cried my eyes out! Anyone realize that Sophie Rose was named after the Cohens' two boys: Seth and Ryan? Nice touch.

Ann Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 10:11 AM EST

Thanks, Annie for your fabulous recaps over the years. One of the saddest things about the end of "the O.C." is the end of your wrap ups. Will miss your wit, sarcasm, nicknames (Bloatbecca being my fav), sentimentality, and insight.

J Sun, Feb 25, 2007 at 01:09 AM EST

I was sobbing. Chest heaving. Like a little girl. And I'm neither little, nor a girl... Literally, the music montage to end all music montages. Okay, I'm verklempt again. I need a heavily-shmeared bagel...

The whole season's on iTunes now. I guess they were waiting for it to end.

Julianne Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 09:37 PM EST

I'm glad that you mentioned how it ended with Ryan, just like it opened with him. After all, the show is based on him!

Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 07:24 PM EST

i'm in total denial.
it can't really be over can it?
was it just me or was the ryan/taylor thing never resolved. sadly, i keep looking for spoilers, only to find the page deleted.
the oc was a huge part of the last few years of my life, and i'll never let it go!!!

Kali Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

This was the perfect finale - there were so many touching moments and self-references that I just wanted it to go on forever.
I would've never guessed at the beginning of this season that I will become so invested again in this show. But I did and I loved how they brought it back to the most important stuff: family and how even if you are not really related to s.o. they can still be your family.
This show might have been cheesy and soapish at times but it had its heart in the rigtht place. For that I am gonna miss it...and for the Cohen family breakfasts.

Here's to you O.C. *takes a bite from bagel*

Emma Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 03:15 PM EST

It is most definatly sad to see my favorite show ever end. I dont think i will ever find a show quite so good.

samp Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

such a great ep!! they ended the series perfectly...i didnt even mind the marisa shot. i am sad that its over, fox should have given it more time...taylor rules!

Darius Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 07:58 AM EST

it was a great show!

Jakeem Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 02:17 AM EST

I'd like to mention how impressed I was by Willa Holland this season. I was not a fan of her work last year, and I frequently made fun of the fact that she sounded as if her jaw was wired shut.
But she improved considerably during Season 4 (much like the character she played, Kaitlin Cooper), and so my hat is off to her!

RB Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 01:58 AM EST

Well I'm not sure what to say. It's the end of an era. You got me through the rough times with your indie rock montages and pop culture references. My problems always seemed small in comparison to your messy love triangles and overly dramatic breakups and make ups. You were a good friend and you will be missed.
RIP THE O.C
2003-2007

Hamburger Royal Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 01:27 AM EST

Annie, hanks for the great recaps over the series. The End was a fitting closer for one of my favorite shows. I am also glad it ended this season and didn't drag on into unbearable years. From 90210 to Dawson's to Buffy to [almost any show], once the primary setup (usually high school) ends, shows tend to go downhill. Thank you Josh for bagel slicers, the European-style self reference, the so-random midwife and four interesting seasons.

BB Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 01:02 AM EST

Oh Donald...I knew that actor looked familiar. Thanks for clarifying where I had seen him before...the waiter! I thought the show was a nice sweet ending. I was happy to have a question answered by Josh too-icing on the cake :)

Jp Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at 12:27 AM EST

the BEST part of the show was the moment when Ryan remembered seeing Marissa when he was driving away the first time in season one.

BLOATBECCA FOREVER!!! That was my fave character nickname!

Donald Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 11:34 PM EST

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, including Annie, but...

Did anyone else notice that the wedding planner who was living in the old Cohen house was the caterer from Season 1?

RayT Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 10:36 PM EST

I'm still so overcome with emotion, I can't even be witty and clever about the finale! Thanks for all the good times, Annie! I'll never forget Lindsbree, YG (Yard Guy), MLP (My Little Pony), Lindsbree's oboe, or all the other nicknames/props! I'll never be able to listen to that damn Phantom Planet song again without sobbing!

Kara Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 10:10 PM EST

Starting 4/7/07, they're going to start showing reruns on SOAPNet.....

Shelagh Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 10:01 PM EST

Did anyone else think that the gay couple in their house was symbolic of Ryan and Seth as a couple? As soon as they opened the door, it was like Ryan and Seth were staring at an older Ryan and Seth. Totally a shout-out to how they're the best couple of all on The O.C.! Oh, and how that couple was a midwife and a wedding planner? So convenient - so O.C.!

And as far as I know, it was never actually resolved whether the kid was Ryan's or not. Although Teresa told him it wasn't his, it was also during a time when she saw that he was doing really well in Newport and didn't want to interrupt things for him. So I wouldn't say for sure that the kid wasn't his.

Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 09:46 PM EST

you can rewatch the episode at www.ctv.ca

Mike Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 08:35 PM EST

loved the way Summer referenced the real-life relationship between Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody by talking about how the couple from the Valley broke up in real-life, and also how the Valley got picked up for 5 more seasons. this is the stuff i will miss, the in-jokes, clever funny pop culture. no show ever like it. hope we get something soon that can sort of take the place, so Annie can write about it.... would have loved to see a full season, or even a fifth season, with Summer calling Seth from various environmental functions, like on a boat, saving whales,....and seth goes along for one of her causes- how funny would that have been?....ryan at berkeley with Taylor would have been fun with parties and relationships, just to have some of them in college for a bit to finish the show. 24 eps would have been great, just felt that it was rushed because it didn't have the full order.

Erik B Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 08:34 PM EST

Sam, the last song was "Life Is a Song" by Patrick Park.

That was definitely the best way to end the show. I loved that Taylor wound up on the Terrorist Watch List. She's a great character, but she's just so insane. Seth and Summer getting married was perfect. They didn't always have the greatest storylines, but I never stopped rooting for them as a couple. Ryan becoming Sandy was the greatest way to wrap up the show. It's been a crazy four years and although not all of it was perfect, it's been memorable. I'm going to miss this show so much.

lindsey Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 08:31 PM EST

the song was called "life is a song" by patrick park...and it is amazing as was the finale

Brad Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 08:02 PM EST

Like I said before, I only started watching this series last year, but I really enjoyed it to the point I can't wait to see it during syndication (FX anyone?). This was a great end to start over with Ryan meeting Seth again. I can assume that while he didn't connect with Taylor, they are good friends and someday he is going to become engaged to her. Best scene was when Julie didn't know what she wanted to do but was holding that college brochure and started thinking. Not since Fraser left has a show took it's time ending it's series properly.

Dose anyone know the name of the song at the end and also who it is bye?
thanks

Ruby Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 07:43 PM EST

By the way, didn't they already answer whether Theresa's kid was Ryan's or Eddie's (?, that was his name, right) kid. She said it was Eddie's...I mean, it was done in a really anti-climatic way (part of Season 3 badness), no paternity test or anything was done to prove otherwise, so that was mostly resolved. I think having that kid in the last scene be this elusive possibly Ryan's kid would be too obscure. I agree with Jakeem, that kid just symbolized who Ryan was and far he has come. By the way, loved how someone mentioned the Six Feet Under series finale, I feel exactly the same way. Great use of flashforwards.

mike Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 07:33 PM EST

I think it was Ryan's kid. They showed season 1 Ryan over and over and then the kid at the end looked an awful lot like him. We don't know how much time passed between Ryan entering college and that last scene.

Karoline Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 07:26 PM EST

This was one of the best series finales I've ever seen (and at my age, which I will not divulge, I've seen quite a few). I think having Julie finally find Mr. Right in none other than Ryan's dad was great "other side of the tracks" soapiness. The montage at the end gave the series the closure it deserves and I admit I will miss this show terribly - have seen every single episode. To answer Ruby's question: I think Ryan and Taylor did end up together.

theBigE Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 07:20 PM EST

Yup, gonna miss this show. I just wanted to thank Annie for her recaps! I'll miss that too.

jenn Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 06:57 PM EST

I am so depressed right now. I can't wait for the DVD set just so I can watch it for the rest of my life and not feel like it was cancelled. Ryan finally became hot this season too. Long live The O.C.

Jakeem Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 06:30 PM EST

It wasn't Ryan's kid. It's just that he literally became Sandy Cohen, willing to help a youngster down on his luck.
By the way, I believe and Ryan and Taylor are still together at the end. You could tell by the way they looked at each other at Seth and Summer's wedding.

Brent Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 05:49 PM EST

Wow. Best series finale since 'Six Feet Under'. I'm so glad they gave us closure. Instead of being depressed, I just felt good about it all. Sad, of course, but happy at the same time. Very well done. This show will go down in history as one of the greatest for me. I will totally be watching the DVD's when I am 50. Count on it. lol

Where do we get Annie Barrett now? That bagel slicer was for you! Josh even said so! :)

Jim Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 05:48 PM EST

Awesome way to end it, Does anyone get the timetable at the end had enough time passed for that kid to be ryans illigitimate son from the end of sesaon 1? does anyone know? I need closure.

Ruby Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 05:46 PM EST

Great ending...the only thing I was left wondering, so did Ryan and Taylor end up together? But now I kind of like how they put that up in air, like it really isn't the most important thing. The important thing was how she helped him become better, get through Marissa's death. So I loved how the last music montage revolved only around the main characters. I started to well up during the moving scene (first Chrismakkuah photo!), started shedding my first tears as Ryan walked around the house, and was all out bawling by the time they reached Seth pinning up that newspaper clipping of Summer straight through the end (Sandy as a law professor, PERFECT!). Loved that Ryan came full circle, just so great. And even though I too felt Frank was a little forced and that there was a little bit of nostalgia for Marissa (that shot of him driving away and seeing Marissa always got to me), but it still all felt right and came together. So definitely, long live the Cohen Atwood Coopers.

Kristin Fri, Feb 23, 2007 at 05:41 PM EST

I've watched the finale twice already, and I have to say that I absolutely loved this episode. So many little moments of humor, like Summer's line about "these teen dramas just go on forever!" and when Kirsten's water breaks and one of the guys goes "This is so random, but I'm a midwife!" LOVED IT. But, of course, plenty of nostalgia and sadness. There were even some surprises, which I wasn't expecting since the preview seemed to give a lot away. I'm going to miss this show so much, but I loved how they wrapped it up with the flashforwards. Also, needless to say, the ending was completely perfect, and the final song is growing on me every time I rewatch the ep. This really is the end of an era, but damn if it wasn't a good one.

Annie, you have made watching the OC a pleasure. Along with loving the show I always look forward to your comments. You are a true fan and I will always hold a place in my heart for your OC blogs. Long live the OC! (tears)

I started crying when Seth put up the picture of Summer. It was so sweet and so worth it that they got together after all.

I hate that Ryan's dad was such a part of things in the end. Julie's baby daddy. Bad move. At least Julie did things alone, but I did like that she went to school. Kaitlin too. The Cooper woman sticking together. I really missed Marissa, especially in that slight glimpse at the end. Didn't like Summer leaving. Even if she and Seth ended up married. Ah, little Sophie Rose...so sweet. I LOVED how Ryan became Sandy, when he saw that troubled youth. Ryan came a long way. LOVED the ending. Wish Taylor hadn't been such a big part of it. I'll miss the show. But it became such a different show this last season, it really wasn't the same show. But I'll miss it. Ryan grew up so much, from those glimpses of the pilot while Ryan was having a last look. Good memories.

I loved the episode! One of the best series finales ever! It was great to see a glimpse into the characters' future lives without it being too cheesy. I loved the ending with Ryan becoming all Sandy-esque. Maybe, for generations to come, Atwoods will be adopting random kids off the street. So sweet...

I thought the episode was fantastic and defintely shed some tears! Could anyone tell whether Ryan and Taylor stayed together or not? It was unclear to me.

Julie and Kailin with Frank Jr and Evan Frank made me sad 'cause they lost marissa. Where was Kirsten in the Montage. Might of Liked to see Ryan and the Family together more in the future even had him explain to Sophie why he is her and Frank Jr brother. Only real gripe is the Kirsten thing and the pronouns again- but hey those are style points and nitpicks. Long live the Cohen atwood coopers!

The best moment was when Summer gave Julie the locket with Marissa's picture. And when it flashbacked to Ryan driving by Marissa. The two of them is what the OC was for me. I am glad they showed the future with everyone's happy ending. I am sure going to miss this show.

The brief second that Ryan saw Marissa staring into his car was the moment that made me glad that I watched the OC. It was the closure I needed.

The kid was probably his son. The episode was pretty good. It was nice for Ben Mckenzie to play his age at the end. Reunion show, maybe? The one thing I didn't like was the whole Frank-Bullitt situation.

"Hey, kid. Need any help?"

The best parting words this show could have had. The waterworks started running for me at the Seth-Summer bus scene and didn't stop til the credits. Way to go out O.C. I'm sure going to miss you!

Sorry to be nit-picky but the editing seemed a little off. But loved it anyway and I cried at the end for sure, especially when Ryan saw Marissa. We heart you OC!
