Yoko Ono reaches out to youthful alt-rockers

Yoko_l You don't have to be a hipster/Yoko Ono fan to be on the lookout for the CD Yes, I'm A Witch. Ono (who turned 74 on Sunday) chose modern artists like The Flaming Lips, Le Tigre, Peaches, and several other offbeat collaborators, including my fav psycho-but-talented musician, Cat Power. Yoko handed down her entire catalog of tracks for the artists to pick from, and what resulted is no ordinary mesh of music. Check out the ArjanWrites blog for a free download of Blow-Up's version of Yoko's "Every Man, Every Woman."

I really like what Yoko Ono stands for — peace, love, sexual freedom, justice and all that good stuff — but I have never been a huge fan of her music. In the past, I found it to be a little over the top with the surreal/Studio 54 vibe, not to mention I could barely understand what the hell she was singing about. But by adding this new modern twist to her music, she's winning me over and maybe others like me. (I'm out $11.99, but hey, now I have some new groovy tunes to add to my music rotation at my next bbq — whenever the hell evil Mr. Winter decides to kick it.) What do you think, PopWatchers? Interested?

When you search for the electronic components, try to use UTSOURCE, you can find the modules. For example, the types have http://www.utsource.net/sitemap.htm

Sorry Jason and Kim, but Yoko is stinko! She just does not have what it takes, not just as a pop star; but as any kind, period. Who really knew her in the U.S. before she became Lennon's weird obsession? If you have any information on that I would like for you to share.

Ya, because that "babalu, I love you" track was just the bomb diggedy...NOT!

The wonderful Cat Power is NOT crazy. Crazy is Yoko Ono's cleavage in her 60s. Fer realsies.

Lilly Wed, Feb 21, 2007 at 04:10 PM EST

No kidding she looks that good at 74. She's spent a huge pat of John Lennon's money on plastic surgery. Just check out that cleavage.

Two words for Ono - OH NO!
The woman never made it as an artist, was not internationally known like Lennon EVER until she gold-dug her way in. She has absolutely NO music talent whatsoever, so PLEASE spare us this. I guess if you are a millionaire and want to make a CD, you can. OH NO!

Aside from that ridonk hat, Yoko is looking pretty foxy in the photo. She looks in better shape than me.

You're doing nothing for me Curves. I'm totally going to Yoko's trainer!

Would Yoko have any recognition as a musician if she had not been married to Lennon? Absolutely not! Her music sounds like a bunch of cats caught in a blender, only more out of key. While the musicians she's chosen for this project are excellent, they still have the challenge of turning turds into gold nuggets.

Given that I've said lots of negative things about Yoko, I'll say something nice. I can't believe Ono is 74. She looks a good 30 years younger than her actual age.

Yoko Ono a pioneer: yea, that's a good one. she's not interested in making pop music because she's not capable. instead, she makes strange shreiking noises. her performance at the Stones' Rock n'Roll Circus was atrocious. how is it that Ringo is viewed by some as nothing more than the luckiest guy ever, and Yoko's a genius. give me a break...

Ono is a true pioneer, as an artist and musician.  The idea that she is famous "because" of Lennon is just ignorant and sexist.  The fact is that Ono was a very famous and celebrated artist long before she ever met Lennon.  She's not interested in making pop music, and so her music won't be everyone's cup of tea, but dismissing an artist because she's not a pop star is ridiculous.

Yoko Ono only has recognition because she was John Lennons' lady. Who really likes her music? This CD should land in the $2.99 bin.

Yoko is the original eccentric famous person. She and John set the standard for the famous people wierdness that seems to define fame since the 1970's.

Other than that, IMHO, she is more of a sidenote and the reason for her continued popularity escapes me. That's to say that even if Mos Def, the Strokes, the Roots and Willie Colon guested on this album I'd still be hesitant to pick it up.
