The PopWatch Confessional (Vol. 1)

Jcryer_l Last night, a coworker who shall not be named asked me whether it was wrong that she had just canceled a dinner with a friend—that had taken months to schedule—because she wouldn't be able to tape The Office and watch it later due to "cable issues" (yes, that's the vague term I agreed to use to further protect her identity). Having just postponed a scheduled phone chat with a friend due to my own "cable issues" and stubborn determination not to miss Marin and Stuart getting it on on Men in Trees, I did not judge her. I did, however, spend the rest of the evening—well, during commercials, anyway—wondering what other sins I've committed in the name of entertainment.

If I confess, PopWatchers, will you? (I'm thinking yes, since you've been sharing "dirty books" secrets with EW's Tina Jordan this week.) I'll start with the one that's shameful on many levels. Last year, when I was going through my Jon Cryer phase (Shame Level 1), I took a cab 10 blocks (Level 2) so I could catch a bus to Jersey (Level 3) that would get me home in time to watch Cryer (pictured) on Two and a Half Men (Level 4), which I had forgotten to DVR.

I'd also like to ask absolution for the following:

  • Circa the early '80s, there was a span of a few months when I would not get dressed for school until I had listened to my entire Air Supply 8-track. In the family room.
  • In 1996, I was 20 minutes late to lunch with a friend—at the dining hall in my own dorm—because I had to see whether an elderly woman named Beulah won the showcase showdown on The Price is Right
  • In 2003, I convinced three friends that we had to go to a multi-day Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan convention at the Friar Tuck Resort in the Catskills. Then I made them sit through a sing-along-to-the-boom-box reenactment of the musical episode, as well as a concert by a band fronted by Warren (Adam Busch). Worse, when told that the actors would only sign one autograph per person, I chose to have Anthony Stewart Head sign "Thanks for last night!" to me instead of to my friend Eva Ingvarson, who clearly hearted him more and was stuck in L.A.

Your turn.

-I skipped school one day in junior high so I could go to a matinee showing of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" the day it premiered.
-I wanted to see "Sweeney Todd" the day it came out and I was beyond mad when my hometown theater did NOT get a copy of it. I had to wait until the next morning and drive a town out of my way to see it.

Andrea Thu, May 8, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

I was 9 and I found out that NSYNC was going to be giving a concert a mere two hours from my hometown. I knew it was on Mother's Day and my mom hated them, but I was a little selfish at that age. I BEGGED her to take me, and on Easter morning, I found NSYNC tickets in my basket. She suffered through 2 hours of listening to 50,000 screaming girls just to make me happy and never complained. I have the best mom ever. :)

defaria Tue, Mar 20, 2007 at 11:46 AM EST

My sister was having her baby. I was so very happy to finally be an aunt. But I wasn't happy enough to miss the last episode of FRIENDS to see my niece come into this world. I figure when she gets older and we're watching the FRIENDS DVD set together, she will definitely understand.

Meagan Sat, Feb 17, 2007 at 02:15 PM EST

I began coming to my biology completely exhausted so my teacher asked me what was wrong. I was forced to divulge the fact that I was pushing off my homework in order to watch my Thursday night tv shows, Ugly Betty, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, and CSI. At the time, it was embarrasing but now my Friday biology classes now come with a discussion on The Office.

Just a week or so ago, I didn't do my AP US History or Spanish homework because I devoted the day to finding William Paley Festival tickets for The Office. I found the tickets, and finished up my homework in class before it was collected.

I cancelled on a pasta dinner for my club soccer team, because reruns of CSI were on.

Fri, Feb 16, 2007 at 05:46 AM EST

I have squandered many studying opportunities to watch TV instead; last year, I could hear the rest of my family watching the finale of American Idol while I tried to study for my English final, so I gave up after about 10 minutes and went downstairs instead to watch all two hours. Thursday nights are especially killer for me; I needed to study for my Biology final the next day, but when I heard the theme from The Office come on, I came down to watch the episode with my sister (it had been recorded) even though I had already seen it, just because I liked the episode so much and wanted to see her reactions. I had watched so much TV that night I ended up staying up until 230 in the morning studying, even though I had gotten home at 1 in the afternoon that day and had had all day to study. I also regularly watch episodes online of The Office during my free period at school, sometimes prompting me to be late to class because I'm in the computer lab instead.

Alyson Fri, Feb 9, 2007 at 02:44 PM EST

Oh, and I was late to work one day for watching a Michelle Trachtenberg Lifetime movie.

Alyson Fri, Feb 9, 2007 at 02:39 PM EST

Wait! The CW has cancelled Reba??

My true sin of television is that I sometimes cancel engagements to watch The Class. It's such a bad show, and I'm embarrassed to watch it. So if I can, I watch it late at night when no one else is around. Yikes.

Matt Fri, Feb 9, 2007 at 02:13 PM EST

I stood in line for over three hours to get Dennis Haskins to sign my Saved by the Bell DVDs. (Not really a "sin," but I thought it would fit here amongst everyone's favorite geek out stories.)

bricq Thu, Feb 8, 2007 at 12:14 PM EST

--I had to watch Kelly Clarkson on Reba. I was so confused by the BJ/Reba/Brock dynamic that I needed to see more. Now I have season passes to the Lifetime and CW repeats. I even printed out the complete series list from wikipedia and highlight the episodes I have seen. Why oh why has the CW cancelled it???
--I flew to San Diego from PA all by myself 2 years ago to see Rocket from the Crypt's last show. That is a legitimate reason to skip 2 nights at law school, right?
--During that dreadful one and only semester at law school, I discovered Fox Reality. I watched the entire Long Way Round series and some weird Australian dating show one weekend right before finals.
--My sister and I have lists of the standouts from this year's AI auditions. Mine are even annotated.
--I won't even get into my Tivo rituals.
--Oh, and I am CRUSHED that I called to late to be included in the EW website focus group.

eddie Wed, Feb 7, 2007 at 12:54 AM EST

I nearly destroyed my brother after he deleted five episodes apiece of Battlestar and Nip/Tuck.

Nothing will ever compare to the tantrum i threw when i realized that i'd be stuck at work without a way home in time to watch the "X-Files" series finale.

Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 10:44 PM EST

I was a "Cheers" fan.
My sister would not miss "Beverly Hills 90210".
For about a year there was only one functional TV set in our house.

Around 9 PM on every Thursday night it was WWF action. I still have claw marks on my arm from where my sister dug in her nails.

Danyelle Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 06:29 PM EST

All through college I refused to have a Tuesday night class so I could watch "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I ended up having to take an exra year of college because of that. It was the best 10 thousand dollars I ever spent.

amy Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 05:53 PM EST

this is horrible...i stopped going to a bible study group on wednesday's because i wanted to watch Lost...God forgive me!

Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 02:59 PM EST

I had twisted my ankle one time and they put me out of work for a week. I wasn't hurt that bad and really didn't need to be out of work so long and told the doctor so. He insisted that I take the full week. I was due back to work on a Sunday night at 9pm. It was the same night that the Oscars were on...HOW COULD I MISS THE OSCARS?? I called out of work and then the next day called my doctor to extend his note. I remember being broke the next week but I still think it was worth it, even though I couldn’t tell you one winner.

t3hdow Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 01:39 PM EST

This actually happened last month. I had to go to a college seminar in MLK day when the 2nd couple episodes of 24 season 6 aired. I was very tempted to skip, but I decided not to. Alas, the seminar was two days ago, so I missed 24 for nothing. No biggie, since I recorded it with a VCR. However, once I got home to watch it, before I viewed the episodes, I realized the tape cut off FIFTEEN MINUTES before the second episode ended (which contained the two biggest surprises of the season so far). I got furious and nearly cried like a little kid when that happened. It didn't get any better the rest of the week. I tried ripping the episodes off the internet with no luck. Then I cracked and watched the incomplete tape I recorded. That's when I discovered the season premier DVD. After dreaming about 24 on a Saturday morning, I snapped and drove all over town to get the DVD; all for the last 15 minutes of an episode. Sad beyond belief? Yep. Would I do it all again? Definitely.

tina Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 07:30 AM EST

I ended a friendship when one of my then close friends wouldn't stop calling me during the season two part two finale of Buffy the vampire slayer (the one where angel dies) I warned this friend several times to stop calling or else i would never speak to him again...we didn't speak for the next three years i was furious.

lauren Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 02:02 AM EST

I left my grandparent's 50th early so that I could catch the Colonials' escape from New Caprica on Battlestar Galactica. I really honestly don't regret it.

Cindy Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

I have Tivoed and saved to my computer this entire season of Lost so that when my best friend gets home from Iraq (in one more week!)he can step into the season and finish it off with out missing anything.

khrystyne Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:32 AM EST

Oh, and Jon Cryer is hot! When Patrick Dempsy was in that movie, Can't Buy Me Love, I thought he was hot, and all my friends thought I was crazy.
Who's crazy now???

khrystyne Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:30 AM EST

I was in eighth grade, and must have done something so bad that for punishment, my parents said I could not watch Dallas on Friday nights. I called in every favor I had with my friends to get invited for a sleepover with each of them through out the season. I thought I was getting away with murder, but my mom told me a couple of years ago that she knew *exactly* what I was doing. I'll be 40 in 2 months, so I guess I turned out all right...

I also used to schedule my college classes so I would not miss Jeopardy.

Frances Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:00 AM EST

I will sometimes schedule nights out with my friends around my TV schedule. I think the most insane thing I've done is run home from work to tape House before I had to go to a free movie screening. I even lied to my boss as to why I had to leave early just so I had the time to pull this off.

Roman Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 05:50 PM EST

I used to hang out/suck up to this really annoying chick just because she was the only one in my dorm who could record American Idol on Tuesday nights while I was out work. Also, like nearly everyone else who's commented, I refuse to talk to anyone or answer the phone during Veronica Mars and Grey's Anatomy.

NanceC Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 03:18 PM EST

Wednesdays have been out for me for three years, because of "Lost." It makes me think I really need Tivo.

Stephanie Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 03:13 PM EST

*she*

Stephanie Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

In 1990, my Mom bought a Milli Vanilli shirt for me at a discount store because ehe thought that it was cool. I wore it a few times because I could not tell her that I was not really a fan, a year later their scandal broke.

Mozz Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 03:06 PM EST

I was once accepted into a prestigious playwrights lab that met in nyc on Wednesdays at 7pm, however, that would make me run late to catch LOST. So I stopped going. and I don't miss it, since then I have had a great writing career. I think LOST does more to stimulate my brain than any other show. But I've also been caught lying through my teeth for UGLY BETTY, and GREY'S ANATOMY. Not to mention the time I called off a rehearsal so I could watch how they were gonna "save the cheerleader and save the world." OH MY GOD! I HAVE PROBLEMS!

Jamie D Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 09:40 AM EST

I TiVo Grey's anatomy so that my hubby and I can watch CSI. We then put our daughter to bed and I forbid him to speak to me until after Grey's goes off. If he comes in and tries to talk I pause it and glare at him until he finishes what he needs to tell me. I've cried when our TiVo messed up and it didn't record a new epi and stomped my foot like a two year old because I had to wait until the next morning to watch it on the internet. So sad... I also save the episodes week to week so that on Thursday morning I can watch the week before so it will be fresh in my mind for the new epi.
My name is Jamie, I'm a Grey's Anatomy addict...

RobertK Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 01:40 AM EST

I like CNN Headline News. I used to record hours of this. I am a paranoid schizophrenic so I am usually convinced that those news shows are about me, and I record them for fear of missing something.

mel Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 12:34 AM EST

I sat in line for 7 hours in the rain to see star wars episode three, then took a AP test at 7 the next morning. my teacher just gave me a sad, disappointed look.

I have seen all but one episode of Clarissa Explains it All. and its the last one.

I bought all the episodes of Higher Ground off Ebay.

Neecie Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 12:32 AM EST

I almost skipped out on a Friday night date in order to watch an episode of Degrassi with my kids and their friends. (I'm in my 40's!) Hey, what happened to Emma? She used to be cool.

tmbgfan Sun, Feb 4, 2007 at 12:03 AM EST

i went 15 years without missing a they might be giants show. when i finally got to meet them, i couldn't speak. so sad.

aly Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 11:55 PM EST

i skipped the final rehearsal, under the pretence of a migraine, for choir the day before our last concert so i could watch lost. because i skipped the rehearsal, i wasn't allowed to participate in the concert

It's a secret Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 11:13 PM EST

I was teaching a college class on Wednesday nights last year, and I let the class out 90 minutes early every week that a new Lost episode aired, so that I could make it home in time to watch. I never told the students... but if any were Lost fans they could have easily figured it out... and I probably should have been fired.

skipper Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 10:28 PM EST

I am currently arranging both my grad school schedule and my two children's sports schedules around Grey's Anatomy. It's the only show I will *not* give up!

Bubba Rogers Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 10:24 PM EST

My week just ain't complete without Monday Night's WWE RAW!!!!!

Bubba Rogers Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 10:24 PM EST

My week just ain't complete without Monday Night's WWE RAW!!!!!

GuyPines Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 08:15 PM EST

When I was in high school, I loved Moonlighting. I wanted to be David Addison and worshipped Bruce Willis. I even bought his album and a harmonica because he played one. And yes, I thought Cybill Shepard was hot.

Vivi Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

When "Passions" first started, I was an ADDICT of the show. Complete ADDICT. Message boards. Official websites. Fan sites. Soap sites. I went to them all...all for "Passions". It got so bad that during my college years, I worked my schedule around 2pm. Why? So I can watch "Passions". I used to leave school 2 hrs. early once my morning class finished. Why? Because me, a bus rider at the time, had to get home just for "Passions".
It was sickening, sickening period of my life. And now the show is cancelled. Shame.

Jen Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 05:22 PM EST

Couldn't leave for work until I got my fix of saved by the bell on tbs.

Sean Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

How can you warrant taping Two and a Half Men? Worst show on TV.

Melissa Sutherland Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 02:56 PM EST

At one point in my life I had every episode of St. Elsewhere; Hill Street; Chicago Hope; ER; NYPD; Cop Rock; Murder One; Nothing Sacred; Homicide; Alias; The Practice; China Beach; West Wing; EZ Streets; Big Apple; 100 Centre Street; The Closer; Saved; all Jane Tennyson Mysteries; etc. You get the idea. Hundreds and hundredsof VHS tapes. Taping and collecting was addictive. At the same time, my sister taped films. We had over 4,000 movies. Then we moved from a 4,500 sq. ft. house. Gave most of the videos away. Now we collect DVDs. Have West Wing, Homicide, Alias; Upstairs, Downstairs; Buffy; etc. It is a neverending joy! But my secret vice was taping scenes of my favorite soap couples like John and Charlene from Another World and Harley and first Mallett from Guiding Light. Still have over 30 tapes of soap stuff in storage somewhere. Favorites were Kurt McKinney and "Vanessa" character on GL. Will never forget! Thanks for helping me to remember.

SpikeLover Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 02:55 PM EST

I too was a huge Buffy and Angel fan and would not accept any phone calls during airtime. I would go ballistic if anyone in my house raised their voice above a whisper during my "sacred" Buffy time. If I did have to record a show, I would not go to work the next day until I had a chance to watch the missed episodes. I didn't care how often I was late.

Shelley Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 02:55 PM EST

When I was in 3rd grade, we moved to a farmhouse near the border between two towns. Suddenly, I had to take a school bus, since my mother worked in the other town, and didn't get home until 4pm. Star Trek was on at 3pm. I begged my mother to let me transfer to the other school district so I could walk to her office and watch Star Trek every afternoon. Happily, my mother was the best scifi enabler ever and let me transfer.

Xander Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 02:15 PM EST

Speaking of Buffy, last spring I made converts of my roommates, and we (five guys) watched the series beginning to end in a four week period between March and April. 154 episodes, clearly none of us had jobs at the time, thus the pseudonym.

tammy Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 01:30 PM EST

If you get a Tivo and network it, you can schedule items online. :) I have been known to be on vacation and have to find an internet connection so I can schedule something I forgot about. Now if I could see what's already scheduled online, I would be in heaven. Then when I have that haunting feeling that I forgot or didn't see a show scheduled, I could get peace of mind.

Kirby Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 01:02 PM EST

On my younger sister's 10th birthday, my whole family agreed to watch The OC finale with me. It was worth it! Marissa shot Trey!... I have the nicest sister ever.

Josh Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 11:46 AM EST

Coby, some of us sadly can't afford Tivo. Mine are all pre-Tivo era anyway. The worst was when I had to work in a student lounge that had a TV, and set my timer to tape a season-1 'Alias' in case other students were watching something else. No one was, and it was slow, so I began watching 'Alias' in the lounge. A friend came down and started to talk to me when I was about 35 minutes in, and I said, "Shh! Wait until the commercial." She wasn't too pleased -- and this was before she found out that I was even taping it back in my dorm room.

Coby Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

I have my favorite shows as you all do, but Tivo is the answer. Some of you REALLY need to invest in this awesome product. Not only can you set it for "season pass, so you'll never miss a show again, you can also pause it in case the phone rings or some other crisis arises. It beats arranging the rest of your life around TV schedules.

George Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM EST

I work nights, so whenever there is an important episode of Veronica Mars or Lost, I always make someone else work instead. One of the perks of being the boss.

Also, I failed several classes in college because I always skipped them to watch horrible movies from the 70s on Starz. We're talking really bad. Like "Ode To Billy Joe" bad.

Buddy in Roll Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 10:50 AM EST

i love boys!

Steve Benson Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 09:43 AM EST

My brother and I drove 40 miles through a blizzard to keep a tradition alive. Watching "Monterey Pop" on the late, late, late show (3 a.m. start) with our cousins in upstate NY.

Aside from that, how many of you have spouses who sit silently as you watch tv but then suddenly have the urge to talk about their friend's cousin's neighbor's doctor's ex-wife's cat right when your show starts?

Phil Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 09:22 AM EST

My wife refuses to talk to me during One Tree Hill. Myself, give me the old Saturday morning cartoons, even in my mid 30s, I still get up early to watch them. So shoot me...

chick Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 09:08 AM EST

I was a Twin Peaks junkie ..had all the memorabilia and refused to speak to anyone while it was on. During one crucial episode, I had to be at my sister-in-law's and made everyone watch it. They thought I was nuts for imposing a no-talking rule until commercials. I was also heavily into Thirtysomething and St. Elsewhere. My recent addictions include Top Chef, The Office, Dirt, and any idiotic reality show on MTV. Thank god for the invention of the DVR!

J Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 08:33 AM EST

Grad school classes revolved around the 4 hour blocks of 90210 that FX played everyday. I also taped every episode in order since they were not on dvd yet. Four hours a day was not enough???

Nicolletta Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 07:47 AM EST

I get up early on Saturday mornings so I can watch infomercials. My favorites are the ones for fitness systems and gadgets. =)

beb Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 07:45 AM EST

I cried when Kelly Clarkson sang "A Moment Like This" after winning the first AI...

Fatima Sat, Feb 3, 2007 at 01:29 AM EST

When I was in 3rd grade, we were on a road trip as the first new Rugrats in ages (pre-movie. It was like a 3 year gap or something) was on. We were driving back from sightseeing and I had to go to the bathroom SO bad, but refused to ask to stop at a rest room because we were barely going to make it back in time. Even though I was about to explode, I watched the first cartoon and shot to the bathroom during the first break. Good thing we made it back a couple minutes before it started or I would have thrown a tantrum

mickeyj Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 11:31 PM EST

I wasn't allowed to watch television before school when i was a child because i would turn into a monster when i had to leave for school in the middle of a program.
Ten years ago I left a birthday party half an hour after i got there so that i could see Pamela Anderson host SNL. (what was i thinking?)
In highschool I would reenact scenes from the previous nights 90210 and Party Of Five episodes.Remember when Kelly got shot and Bailey drove drunk and crashed the car? (i was a social outcast)
i failed a class in college because i would stay home in the morning to watch Ellen. (it was worth it)
In January I was on vacation in sunny florida with my family but VH1 was having an ANTopModel marathon all seven cycles so I stayed inside the condo all week watching Tyra and the girls. (love it)
This week I was enroute to a friends birthday party but turned around because i remembered that Grey's Anatomy was on and I wasn't taping it.

My name is Michael and I have a television addiction.

Melissa Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 10:50 PM EST

My sister refuses to answer the phone if any of her shows are on....I have ignored friends who are trying to talk to me on the phone if one of my shows are on...I have told people I couldn't hang out with them because I needed to read the new Harry Potter....not as bad as some.

aa Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 10:40 PM EST

i tape as the world turns and before i got a dvr i wouldn't go out with friends immediately after work because i had to go home and change the channel to tape whatever i would miss that night. this led to annoying people by coming into movies late or missing happy hour or eating dinner while everyone else was having coffee and dessert.

JJ Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 10:39 PM EST

I know I am going to hell for this but I once skipped out early on the wake for a good friend's father so that I could make it home in time to watch Melrose Place.
Also, when I went away to college for one semester, I was not able to watch or tape all of my favorite shows so I had my mother tape them. Then I would go home every other weekend to watch my shows, every Friday night until the wee hours of Saturday.

Tamara Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 10:14 PM EST

1. While studying abroad in London (1995), I set my alarm for 2 a.m .to watch the Oscars live. Stayed up for 4 hours, went to sleep for 2 hours and went to my internship at 8:30 a.m. You have to watch the Oscars live.

gabulldog Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 10:05 PM EST

Sooooo happy to see that I'm not the only one with a TV addiction. As soon as the fall tv schedule is released every year, I make a chart to figure out which shows I will watch and which I will TiVo every single night of the week. Some nights I have to go into another room b/c I need to TiVo 2 shows on one TV and watch a third live on the other TV!

Jedidog Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 09:46 PM EST

When I was taking MBA classes at night, I purposely rearranged my classes so I would not have to take them Thursdays when "Survivor" was on.

Lori Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 08:04 PM EST

I asked for a TV in my room during my labor with my first baby so that I could watch The Price is Right between contractions.

anne Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 07:47 PM EST

Though I am a total TV nut, my family does not (as tears sparkle in my eyes) have cable. So whenever anyone from Lost, LOTR, or Hugh Jackman are on anything, I force friends to tape it for me, on special, labeled tapes I have for such occasions.
Also, last year the season finale of Lost was on my birthday. When my parents asked me what I wanted to do, I asked for a chinese takeout buffet while sitting on the couch watching Lost, receiving presents during the ads. My poor father, mother, and sister, who all don't watch Lost, had to wonder what was going on as I was screaming at the TV.

Isa Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 07:09 PM EST

Beat That:
I had my grand mother switch tapes in my VCR once a week (poor her she was worthless with tecnology, I had to write her a step by step guide for the simple operation) for the three months I was away in England - so I wouldn't miss any General Hospital! I watched 3 months worth of show (an hour a day - 5 shows a week Do the math + Catched up in 3 weeks! I feel so bad now that I stopped watching and can't barely recognise anyone on anymore!

Izzy Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

I have too many too list, but my greater sin - is the only time I ever ever used get mad (directly) at people was when trusted them to record a TV show for me, and they somehow forgot. Not only was I becoming hulk in person, then they would come and say something like - oh but it's no big deal it's a tv show! Ya no comment on how mad I became! Thank god for technology, my mom likes me more now!

Mike Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:51 PM EST

I missed my first start on my high school varsity soccer team because I had to see the end of "A Time To Kill" before my brother brought it back to the video store.

MeMeMe Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:34 PM EST

-When I was four, I liked to re-enact movies like Grease and Annie. I popped an eardrum trying to copy the ear piercing scene from Grease and had to go to the hospital.
-In gradeschool, if I'd been sick, I'd fake an extra day just to enjoy Saved by the Bell and Brady Bunch reruns and Press Your Luck.
-In my teens, I spent an entire Father's Day weekend "with the Kids" (Kids in the Hall marathon) instead of spending it with my father.
-In college, I skipped a class three times so I wouldn't miss new episodes of Boston Public. The class was "Issues in Education." The good news is that I wasn't the only one who did it.
-I spent an entire day watching a marathon of all three Porkey's movies instead of writing a twenty-page essay. This included watching the first and second movies twice. I ended up writing up until five minutes before the class the paper was for.
-I recently turned down an exercise class because it was on Tuesdays at the same time as Veronica Mars and AI.

Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:27 PM EST

NAC - I got up at 4hAM to watch that final. I was on a business trip ad went to bed at 2hAM and had training at 8h30! But for tennis, and federer it was all worth it wasn't it?

Isabelle Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:25 PM EST

Oh thank for this popwatch! I thought I was the only one who goes to such length for entertainment. This is better than therapy!
My sin:
It has to be having my grand-father drive me to the bus stop in the middle of an ice storm (there was at least an inch of ice covering everything) So I could to a Backstreet Boys concert (for which I didn't have a ticket! I bought one when I got there! 3rd row! Still was probably not worth risking our lives! God bless him!)
- I would also snap at anyone who would talk to me during Six Feet Under!

wontonjon Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:16 PM EST

My Senior year of high school, while I was home sick all week, I got into watching back to back episodes of Dawson's Creek on TBS. When I felt better, I faked sick for a couple more days to watch it more. My first day back at school, I ran home during lunch to set the VCR to record, then I would run home as soons was school was out and hide the tape in my room so no one in my family would know I watched dawson's creek. i continued like this for two weeks, then they changed to a differnt show. did i give up? no. i rented the other seasons from the library, and would wear sunglasses and check out another movie with it and then say 'it's for my sister' and hide it in my room, till i was doen w/ the season(which i stayed up till 2 in the morning)....
... i cried during the series finale....
... no one in my family found out

nac Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:12 PM EST

recently i stayed up until 3:30am to about 7am on a Sunday morning just to watch roger federer win the australian open on ESPN2... I have literally called my brother from a choir meeting at church and told him to tape a Seinfeld episode...and I once watched an all day 'House' marathon on a Sunday, when I had a chem midterm the next day....Hugh Laurie is worth it...

Melissa Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:09 PM EST

I never miss Survivor!! If I am in the middle of making dinner; when it hits 7 p.m. I drop everything and run to the bedroom to watch by myself. Sometimes on the way to the bedroom, I will yell at my husband so he knows to finish dinner and feed the kids. The telephone is not answered and the kids are allowed to talk to me only during commercials.

Daniel at P&T Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:05 PM EST

Ok, as far as concerts attended I don't think I can be beat on lameness. Here's a sampling: Color Me Badd, MC Hammer, Kenny G, New Kids on the Block (TWICE), NELSON (front row), and Kenny Loggins, long after his prime. And he did not even sing Danger Zone.

kcholt68 Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:57 PM EST

I almost missed the birth of my neice because I wanted to finish watching that week's episode of ... "Melrose Place". I know, I'm going to hell ...

Lori Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:47 PM EST

OK, disregard my earlier Paula Abdul post because I spaced on the topic and recorded my most mortifying pop culture moment. Here's one that's more relevant to the topic: I faked illness on Thanksgiving one year so that I could stay in bed all day and watch a "Buffy" marathon on F/X. I never showed my face once at dinner, not even when they served pie. Oh, and I love watching them spin the big wheel on the "Price is Right" because sometimes an old lady will spin it too hard and fall on her butt. Hi-larious.

Alicia W. Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:46 PM EST

*Fatima, I also obsessively recorded and catalogged one of my favorite shows, The X-Files.
*When Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released, I stayed awake until 5 am to finish it.
*I, too, am a Degrassi addict, and at this very moment I'm debating over whether I should go out tonight or stay home to watch Liberty have a break down about JT. Somebody help me!

tamra Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:32 PM EST

i don't mind tivo'ing shows to watch later, but not heroes. i put my daughter to bed an hour early on monday night, so i can freak out on the couch with no interruptions. she hates me.

Lori Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

There's some great stuff here but I think I have you all beat. In the early 90s, I waited on line overnight for tickets to a Paula Abdul concert...TWICE

Jenn Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:26 PM EST

1. Used to schedule my college classes around Days of Our Lives (Come on..it was the 80's...Bo and Hope and Patch and Kayla RULED!)

2. I sliced open my finger with a knife and refused to let my husband take me to the Emergency Room until he had set the VCR to record "The Simpsons" (1990..before TiVO). I then got four stitches.

3. My kids aren't allowed to speak during Survivor or Lost.

Andrew Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:22 PM EST

During my closeted days two years ago, I blew off fooling around with my then-girlfriend to see "Must Love Dogs" in the theater. Making out with a girl suddenly sounded much more appealing than watching Diane Lane and John Cusack muddle through one of those lame Internet-based chick flicks where people talk out loud when they're chatting online. Uggggh!!!

BassSinger Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:14 PM EST

I broke my leg palying soccer, but went home and refused to go to the hospital till West Wing was over. I ended up having to have surgery on the leg and the doctors asked why I didn't come in 5 hours ago.

Sheila Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:13 PM EST

*I've committed many sins for my boys, but I'm actually quite proud of my greatest pop sin, which was risking Christmas with my family to see Duran Duran in London (flew over for one day, barely made it back in the country in time);

*London, 1995, Easter: RUNNING -- fast -- home from the Tube to make sure friends and I did not miss a single minute of the movie "9 to 5" on TV (no VCR, alas)

Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:13 PM EST

I've canceled plans to watch Laguna Beach and Degrassi...I always feel like less of a person afterwards...

MIMI Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:07 PM EST

I started playing in a pool league and was in first place when I dropped out because we played on Tuesdays which everyone knows is American Idol night. In my defense, when I first signed up we played on Monday and then got changed to Tuesday half-way through.

Lori Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:07 PM EST

- We had a Buffy and Angel network where a videotape would be express mailed within a day or two if someone had missed an episode.

- I had every episode of Buffy and Angel on video tapes, in order of airing. Finally, after I had all the seasons on DVD, I offered them (for free) on craigslist because I couldn't bear to just toss them. Had tons of people eager to take them off my hands, too.

Brie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 05:02 PM EST

Sometime last year, TV Land had a Night Court Weekend Marathon. I wasn't feeling all that great that Saturday Morning and ending up watching a couple of episodes and couldn't believe how amazing it was (I was too young to get any of the jokes when it was orginally on). I faked being under the weather the rest of the weekend to get out of doing anything and watched almost the entire marathon. I even recorded the episodes I was sleeping through so I wouldn't miss them.

Ep Sato Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:58 PM EST

Just thought of another one. I have blatantly missed work with fake sick days to watch "Office Space" (it was on at 8:00 am on Comedy Central, a sign from god to skip work in my mind), and a second time I skipped work so I could stay home and watch the entire first season of Battlestar Galactica on dvd. For some reason, I don't work for that Senator anymore...

Laurie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:56 PM EST

I used to stay up until 2am nightly to watch reruns of Daria on the Noggin. My boss was convinced I had a substance abuse problem because I came in everyday with bloodshot eyes.
Also I once forced my old roommates to watch A Walk To Remember four times in one week. See also Beaches and Teen Witch for my bad taste in movies.

Joslyn Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:51 PM EST

I watched the Dawson's Creek finale alone with a bottle of wine. At the end, I cried for two solid hours and was still puffy and red the next morning.
My mom called me at the ungodly hour of 9am on a Saturday once in college. I was furious until she explained she was calling to let me know there was a My-So-Called-Life marathon on MTV. I did nothing else the rest of the day.

Angey in Roll Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:49 PM EST

Lily- I am with you! I remember finding DALLAS reruns in 1996 on TNN! I watched the entire first 3 seasons before I realized I would never graduate on time if I kept it up!

Doug Kaba Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:46 PM EST

I can not beleive I am admitting to this, but in 1998, I rescheduled a first date in order to watch the premiere of the updated LOVE BOAT on the WB starring Robert Urich (of Spencer for Hire and Vega$$ fame). Yes, it was that bad but I continued to watch, mostly to see the intro with the updated song!

Daniel at P&T Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:44 PM EST

I'm 30 years old and I STILL watch all the bad MTV shows. And I'm fully aware they are terrible. My friends make fun of me but I can't stop. I even watch (gasp) Dance Life AND Maui Fever. And I watch Will&Grace and Frasier almost every night on LIFETIME.

t-bone Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:42 PM EST

oh matt, LOVE your reference to the jessie spano/"i'm so excited" meltdown! my friends and i do the same thing - for some sad reason it never seems to get old!

Tommy G. Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:39 PM EST

Our church when I was growing up had Wednesday night "Midweek Refresher" services, and every week I'd fake having a stomachache so that I could stay home and watch Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley instead.

pede Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:37 PM EST

Back when George Clooney was on ER, I set up my work schedule so I never had to work on Thursday nights. (being a nurse, this was fairly easy) These days I call in late to work if certain episodes of Buffy are going to be on FX - even though I own all 7 seasons on DVD. Also, I don't go Monday-Thur so I don't miss 24, American Idol or Grey's.

Fatima Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:37 PM EST

Before DVDs came along, I had over 20 tapes of Simpsons episodes that I cataloged and kept record of to keep it organized. Did I mention I would press pause during the commercials too?
Oh and I often refuse to speak to people if they go and see certain Oscar nominated movies without me. You know who you are!

Agatha Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:36 PM EST

Like many others, I will not even answer the phone during Lost.
For the release of the last three Harry Potter books, not only have I been at the bookstore at midnight, I've stayed up all night reading and finished at around 7 AM. I've already blocked out July 21 this year to do the same.

tiamria Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:36 PM EST

Sadly, I once spent an entire day watching a "Diagnosis Murder" marathon. Beat that.

Didi Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:35 PM EST

I don't go to bible study on Tuesdays during American Idol Season because there's too many things recording on DVR that night and I was missing Gilmore Girls

nay-lo Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:35 PM EST

In college I would put off doing errands (like dropping off important paperwork to the bursar) during my break between classes to run home to catch Unsolved Mysteries at 12 on Lifetime. On really bad days, I would skip my afternoon classes to watch the Lifetime Afternoon Movie that followed.

atskooc Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:30 PM EST

i taped a spice girls concert on pay-per-view because my college girlfriend was a fan. i then sat through the entire concert with her. ugh.

I FAILED freshman math 110 because I discoverd Dallas reruns on The Nashville Network and found them to be way more engaging than algebra. Sorry Dad.

Ep Sato Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:18 PM EST

Top 3:

A once firefly addict, I agreed to dress as Jayne Cobb (with the goofy hat, Blue sun shirt, combat boots, pants, drop holster, vera and everything) and handed out flyers at a COMIC BOOK CONVENTION.
My prize for this humiliation? A pair of preview tickets to see the movie a whole week before it was released in theaters.

#2: Last week I sent my stepmom's bio to the "Wifeswap" people in hopes that they'd also put me on the show.

#3 I once spent a half hour talking to Santiago Cabrera's girlfriend so that I'd get to meet the artist dude from "Heroes". After a super engaging conversatin with the lady, all I could say to dude was "I love your show and watch it every week".

Honorable mention: A friend of mine once asked out Ms. Universe at a public event. It wasn't me, but I felt embarrassed for him...

Katyna Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:17 PM EST

I was so obsessed with The X-Files that I didn't go out on Friday nights and later on Sundays when it moved or take phone calls and I would put my son to bed an hour earlier so I could watch in peace.

Angey In Roll Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:15 PM EST

Eva Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 04:15 PM EST

* I broke up with a guy who made me miss Melrose Place.

* I scheduled my classes around Another World.

* I will not date a guy who doesn't like Buffy.

* My friend and I were so obsessed with The Outsiders, we "saved seats" for them in the school cafeteria and at all of the actors' movies, which we attended opening night. We also wrote each other notes in each of their handwriting. And, as a final tribute, I watched The Outsiders 19 times because that's how old Ralph Macchio was, and I wasn't allowed to watch it again until he turned a year older.

I had a friend that wanted to go out to the club (go-go) while Lost was on. I told him we'll leave after it's over but he insisted we leave immediately. He never saw the show & didn't realize that I wasn't going anywhere. My friends tried to warn him about but he attempted to talk & blab on about nonsense until I kicked him out the room. He was upset but he was warned. Don't mess with me when Lost is on!!!

Markus Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:58 PM EST

I skipped two games for my intramural basketball league because I wanted to watch Gilmore Girls. I might not do that now, but back then it was a really good show, haters.

Silv Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:50 PM EST

My mom was supposed to call me back and I just KNEW it would be during Grey's Anatomy so I took the phone off the hook and forbid anyone to touch it til after the show. Her timing's always sucked - new release rentals, series finales, the first year as newlyweds...and my husband loves to pick up the phone during Grey's just to bug me.

Louise Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

I WILL NOT go out on Monday nights because Heroes and 24 are on at the same time and I can only TIVO one of them. I don't answer the phone during that hour either.

1. My sister and I stood in line for 2 or more hours to get autographs with Manny and Toby from Degrassi: TNG. Keep in mind we were 22 and 19 at the time.
2. Entourage/The Office/ The Simpsons are more commonly talked about in our household than any other subject.
3. Any mention of "I'm excited" in any context is immediately followed by Jessie Spano's meltdown from Saved by the Bell.
4. After a cancelled concert in Seattle, I made the trek to Spokane to see a rescheduled Creed concert.
Disgusting? Of course!

Mary Ott Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:36 PM EST

one of my first TV obsessions was dawson's creek so when they started playing the reruns on TBS i would skip my work study hours my freshman year of college to watch. whenever someone knocked on the door i would mute the tv and pretend i wasn't there. and when i was in North Carolina when the show was filming, i made my family drive up to Wilmington where DC was filmed and i went around reenacting scenes, telling everyone what happened at each place and taking pictures of them even though the rest of my family never watched the show.

Bill Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:35 PM EST

I have routinely canceled plans in order to watch 24.

Mike Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:32 PM EST

I have two really bad ones.
The first: I once turned down a "no-strings attached" romantic encounter because I had episodes Lost & Battlestar Galactica on TiVo that I hadn't seen yet.

The Second:
At work one day I had shooting pains in my chest, numbness in my left arm, light-headedness etc. After I got home my girlfriend at the time (not the girl from item 1) begged me to go to the hospital. I told her I would go after the season finale of The Apprentice was over.

The First Item... WORTH IT!!!!
The Second Item... Not so much. Oh yeah, the pains... it was acid reflux.

aramis Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:31 PM EST

I think I outted myself to pretty much everyone in my photo training school when I refused to hang out with anyone on the night of the Will & Grace Finale. Being Navy and all, i was apparent more than a few eyebrows were raised. That, and it apparently seemed to be against some cardinal Naval doctrine that the TV happened to be displaying programming OTHER than what was on ESPN and BET.

Chris Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:24 PM EST

Hey, Adam Busch's band rules!

I've done far too much, but this one is the ultimate: I broke my foot in '92 and wouldn't go to the hospital until I watched SNL that night.

Bree Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:22 PM EST

i watched the final episode of Lost before the hiatus standing up for fear i would miss something when i was inexpliciably leaping off the couch from excitment

Al Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

This is awesome!! I have a lot too, I am sure, but here are a couple that come to mind immediately:

1. My sophomore year in college, I just stood up and left my Abnormal Psych class in the middle every Wednesday night so that I could get back to my dorm to watch 90210. It was the second to last season. How could I miss that?!

2. The night of the Friends finale happened to fall on one of my best friends birthday. Instead of having a party for her, I threw a Friends party and told her if she wanted to hang out on her birthday she would have to come to that...and she dind't even watch Friends (which is criminal, I know)!

Andie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:58 PM EST

First of all, I LOVE that the most represented TV show so far is LOST! We Lost fans are crazy about our show! So of course most of my sins relate to Lost viewing. Last year I postponed my birthday, and made my finace and friends change the plans they were making for a big birthday dinner, because it fell on Lostday, I mean Wednesday. Now they know better. I even have Tivo, but long ago I found that if I recorded it to watch later in favor of other plans, I was hopelessly distracted wondering what was happening. It's really just better for everyone if I stay home on Lost night.

Marie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:57 PM EST

Once I started watching Buffy at the end of the 5th season, I refused to leave the house or answer the telephone when either it or Angel were on and that went on for about 2-3 more years.

I also was in grad school when the last season of Angel was on and refused to take any classes that fell on Wednesdays.

Jill Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:53 PM EST

Like Dana, I missed many a chapel in college because of "Golden Girls"...and was nearly late to class most days so that I could see the end...."Thank you for bein' a friend...."

Amy Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

I too have seen Adam Busch's band. I couldn't help but make a fool of myself when I met him. How could I not mention Buffy to him?

I dragged my college roomate to see American Pyscho b/c of my Christian Bale obsession. She was a bit horrified, not exactly her cup of tea.

banana Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

Why doesn't anyone pick on the people (like myself) who basically schedule their week around college football (or other sports)?

Also, my boyfriend works evenings, and (this is better now cuz I've now seen all the episodes) I used to always DVR episodes of Degrassi: TNG and watch them before he got home. Or delete them before he got home so I could hide them. (Yes, I hide it like a coke addiction. Cuz it is.)

McGee Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

I don't think I have anything too terrible. I watched the 2nd-season finale of Sports Night while working on complicated class project, knowing that this episode would probably also be the series finale (it was.) It turned out that my mom was taping downstairs because I was working so hard on my project...

I also decided to watch The West Wing instead of writing an important competition speech that I would have to deliver three days later (although, in my defense, that was more of a reserving-my-sanity-emotional-cooldown than a matter of priorities). Oh, and I would also like to be forgiven for all of the Celebreality and Real World/Challenge reunions I have watched/ will watch in the future.

Dave Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

I would consistently arrive late to econ during the second semester of my freshman year in college because I didn't want to miss the first showcase showdown on The Price Is Right. I got my Price is Right fix and was still able to ace the class (I'm not sure what that says about me...or my econ class)

Brian F. Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:40 PM EST

I'm not going out for Valentine's Day with my girlfriend this year because it's on a Wednesday and conflicts with Lost. Beat that!

Vicky Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:30 PM EST

My b/f and I had broken up a few days before and he drove an hour to my house to get back together. He arrived about 10 minutes to 8 on a Tuesday. He didn't bother calling me or knocking on the door until exactly 8 because he knew I wouldn't answer until Gilmore Girls was over. Now that's love.

But yeah, I get mad if I miss new eps of my favie shows. I make sure I don't have to work late..ever. And I make friends and family record shows for me if I accidently forgot to set a tape (I need a dvr). Plus, I hush people who try to talk to me during certain shows. All in the name of entertainment!

sab Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:28 PM EST

-I skipped a play I had tickets for to watch the first season finale of Lost.
-For the 3-movie premiere of The Return of the King (Trilogy Tuesday), I had a final during The Fellowship of the Ring, so I dropped friends off, made them save seats for me, took the final, and then drove back, an hour each way.

Jael Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:27 PM EST

I could have had a class Wednesday night, but instead I moved things around giving me 10 solid hours of class on Tuesday just so I could see Lost.

Anne Marie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:27 PM EST

I've done many, many things over the years, but most recently, I seriously considered not playing in a Thursday night softball league because The Office is my favorite show. I instead convinced my boyfriend that DVR is essential to my emotional well-being and had the best of both worlds.

donna Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

Sometime in the mid 90s there was a channel that played a block of "Beverly Hills 90210" episodes, every day. I opted to 'worked from home' for a few weeks and watched it pretty much nonstop during the day!

Deb Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:22 PM EST

I will literally stop everything I am doing if the following movie is on: Dirty Dancing, Office Space, or any Airplane/Naked Gun movie. Any I don't want to get into my sitcom obsessions....

Melisande Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:20 PM EST

I cried so hard after the last episode of "Alias" that I called in sick to work THE NEXT DAY. I wasn't up to it. And I turned down a dinner invitation the night of the "Lost" finale for season two -- though when I told my friend why, she freaked out that she'd forgotten and went home to watch it too!

shar Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:14 PM EST

the hardest i've ever cried (i'm 28) is the season finale of Will & Grace when they didn't see each other for all those years. I've lost close friends, relatives, and seen some terrible disasters, but nothing has ever made me bawl as hard as that. embarassing.

Rae Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:13 PM EST

I had to pretend to be ill to get out of going to my sisters induction to the National Honor society so I could watch the 'Anti-Prom' episode of Dawson's Creek. Well worth it for that Joey/Pacey sappy, 'I remember everything' moment!

Chaddogg Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:11 PM EST

I once spent an entire New Years Day not watching football, but instead watching a Bravo marathon of "The Biggest Loser", which actually reduced me to tears at times.

And I have on occasion invited myself over to the homes of friends to commandeer their televisions and watch 24 or Lost when I was having cable issues.

melissa Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 01:59 PM EST

I don't answer the phone during me favorite shows, which may not be so bad. I'm tentatively planning to take vacation the week after the Harry Potter book release this July.

Rebecca Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 01:55 PM EST

More than a few:

* I've lied and called in sick to work when really I went to see all 3 'Lord of the Rings' movies back-to-back.

* I passed up the chance to see one of my favorite bands because it was the same night as 'Lost''s Season 3 premiere, and my TIVO wasn't working.

* I once drove 6 hours to see the world premiere of a movie starring Orlando Bloom, who sat exactly 6 rows behind me, then drove all the way back and went straight to work with no sleep.

* I refuse to talk to anyone while 'Lost', 'Heroes', or 'Battlestar Galactica' are on. I've even ignored phonecalls from my mother!

--I scheduled the family dinner in honor of my own birthday around Grey's Anatomy this year.
--Also this birthday, I went out with friends that weekend, but insisted on being home in time to watch AFI on SNL.
--While attending a Christian college, I skipped chapel on more than one occasion to watch Matlock and/or The Price is Right.
--Not television, but entertainment: I am visiting my boyfriend in Michigan this month, but am acctually flying home on the morning of Valentine's Day in order to see AFI in concert.

I used to request Wednesday nights off from my retail job so I wouldn't have to miss "Lost." I told my boss I had a church group that met Wednesday nights.
