Following in the footsteps of many super celebrity
entrepreneurs, Carlos Santana announced that he will be opening a trio of
restaurants in Northern California, all under the name
of his popular single, "Maria Maria." This latest venture is just
another branch on the tree of products by the musician, who already has a line of women's
shoes, a fragrance, a sparkling wine, instruments, and a hotel to his name. The
Maria Maria restaurants will "deliver authentic Mexican cuisine in an
atmosphere inspired by his music." Here's a sneak peek of what (we imagine) you might
find inside.
Upon entering, patrons will be spritzed with Carlos by Carlos Santana, the fragrance. They will be given a glass of "Santana DVX" Sparkling Wine, and serenaded by the sounds of Santana Guitar Models from Paul Reed Smith Guitars and LP Aspire Santana Series Congas and Bongos playing "Oye como va."
On the menu:
Samba pa ti — an exciting appetizer of scallop
and shrimp ceviche
Smooth — a sensual puree of black bean soup, topped with crème
fraiche
Cry Baby Cry — a plate of ultra spicy enchiladas
One Chain (Don't Make No Prison) — the house special tequila cocktail... so good it
can't be legal!
Wings of Grace — come in mild, spicy chipotle, and ¡en fuego!
Evil Huevos — deviled eggs, natch.
Indeed, the entire experience promises to be like getting hooked up intravenously to Carlos' musical soul. Plus, all the food will be organic, or as Carlos calls it, super-natural.
