Are you eager to G(r)eek out and see '300'?

Categories: Film

300_l So Tuesday night I caught an early screening of 300, the upcoming sword-and-sandal-and-CGI action flick loosely based on the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., in which 300 Spartan soldiers battled an onslaught force of millions of Persian warriors. It's based on the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name, and much like the adaptation of Miller's Sin City, the movie was filmed mostly with live-actors against green-screens that were later painted over with an onslaught force of millions of computer-generated pixels to represent the Grecian battlefield.

I'll reserve sharing my personal opinion of the film lest I steal the thunder of EW's film critics, but suffice it to say I'm really curious about how successful this movie will be when it opens on March 9. Other than the Star Wars prequels, very few almost-entirely-green-screened films have broken the $100 million mark at the U.S. box-office. (Sin City took home $74 mil; Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, just $34 mil.) There are no movie stars in the flick, except for maybe Gerald Butler (The Phantom of the Opera) as King Leonidas, leader of the Spartan soldiers, but he's barely recognizable behind a giant, regal beard. Also, there's the whole ancient history lesson thing; "Battle of Thermopylae" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

On the other hand, it's saturated with stylized, video-gamesque violence and fanboy geek-out visuals. Not to mention that it has both half-naked, uber-buffed-out men and half-naked, lithe women (nipples all around!)—in other words, something for everyone. Then again, will the adolescent and twentysomething straight guys this film seems to be targeting be comfortable with the movie's unmistakable male body worship?

No, seriously, I'm asking: Are you keen to see this film? Are your friends talking about it? Does its lack of stars and its ab-tastic, mostly male cast bode well for its success or portend a box-office bloodbath?

I can't wait to see this movie. Gerald is why and the movie looks incredible! He's gorgeous and a passionate actor,

Linda Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

I forgot to say FOR SHAME. I agree with phyllis, professional writers should get their facts straight.
His name is G E R A R D Butler.
It is not an unusual name. SHEEEEESH!

Linda Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 01:59 PM EST

ABSOLUTELY! I have been looking forward to this movie from the very beginning. Gerard Butler, (just call him Gerry) is an amazing actor. Love all his work. Still don't know why the critics did not like Phantom of the Opera. Nobody can evoke emotions like Mr. Butler. A lot of people are criticizing the yelling in the trailer, but those are just little snippets from a 2 hour movie. Can't tell much from that other than it looks amazing. If you want to see just how incredible this movie is going to be, go the official 300 site. There is a ton of info on the making of this movie including a book already published, 300: The Art of the Film. I have it and love it, including Frank Miller's graphic novel. If you don't know Gerry now, you will when this film is released. March 9th can't come soon enough.

Pammy Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 12:17 PM EST

Yes, I'm really looking forward to this film!

phyllis Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 09:38 AM EST

ya know, if you are going to write you need to educate yourself. Just because you don't know who Gerard Butler is doesn't mean he is unknown. There are thousands of us out here waiting for this movie -just because he is in it. Also, please learn his correct name....GERARD

Jessica Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 09:36 AM EST

Are you kidding me?! Of course I'm going to see it! With GeraRd in the lead, that sells the movie for me. Laura, if this movie isn't your cup of tea, try "Dear Frankie" Gerry is truely a gifted actor. The emotions he gives with just one look can melt your heart! Give him a chance (ANYONE who didn't like him in Phantom) and you'll see for yourselves how amazing he really is.

laura Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 04:26 AM EST

No, I am not going to see it, it is not my type of film, or my type of acting, based on what I've seen from the trailer,I haven't seen the other actors,I hope they are better than the one who is starring in it- saw him in the Phantom- so no.

boobboobteedo Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 02:16 AM EST

Looks horrible. I will be going for one reason only, to see Gerard Butler.

Carla Tue, Feb 6, 2007 at 12:37 AM EST

Even if 300 didn't have Gerard Butler (who is Amazing!) in it, I would still see it opening weekend. It looks incredible! btw I think it will do very well at the box office.

ani Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:54 PM EST

i can't wait to watch it! and like many im glad gerard plays leonidas woo!

Aya Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:27 PM EST

I'm soo looking forward to this film. I mean, the story looks very interesting, but since Gerry Butler's role as King Leonidas is one of the highlights of the film I can't miss.

Bean Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:26 PM EST

To add to that, I'm definitely going to the midnight opening.

Bean Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:25 PM EST

I am unbelievably excited for this movie. Not only is the cast excellent (yeah, I'm one of those Gerry Butler dans) but Frank Miller's work is outstanding and I have no doubt that Zack Snyder will do a fantastic job translating it to screen. Oh, and this is one of the most amazing events in history. That helps.

gbfan Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:19 PM EST

I love GERARD Butler and that's reason enough for me to see "300" over and over and over again!

Babs Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:07 PM EST

I can't wait to see this film with the magnificent Gerard Butler! He is a wonderful actor, looks great on the screen and really gets into his roles. Go Gerry!

Yolanda Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:59 PM EST

Gerry Butler baby.

Susan Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:45 PM EST

My husband and I cannot wait to see this! We have been GERARD Butler fans for a long time, and he is finally getting the attention he deserves!

Carrie Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:29 PM EST

I for one am completely excited about seeing it! I plan on taking the entire weekend to see nothing BUT that movie! I agree with the others, PLEASE start spelling GeraRd "Gerry" Butler's name right people!!

DebCar Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:28 PM EST

Are you kidding me??? Can I say "Battle of Themopylae"??? I've only been saying it for over a year, chomping at the bit, waiting for this film to come out! I am so looking forward to seeing this kick-arse film with kick-arse Gerard Butler in the lead!

Cate Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:25 PM EST

How could one NOT be eager to see this film!? Gerry is an absolutely phenomenal actor that could give any big name star a run for their money. To Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and all others, I say move over! It's time for the reign of Gerry Butler!

Amy Lancaster Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 09:15 PM EST

Are you kidding?I took a 1/2 day off of work and plan on seeing at least twice the first day.My level of anticipation is through the strasophere.I have heard lots of people in different situations talking about 300.I am sooooo ready!!
For amyone who doean't know who he is, Gerry Butler is gonna knock their socks off!!!!!!!!

Naoma Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 08:59 PM EST

YES YES YES CANNOT wait for this movie to hit! Those of you who do NOT know Gerry, soon will!

Suz Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 08:56 PM EST

Husband, son and I will definately be there. This film will be intense and one hell of an a$$kicking ride.

Lynne Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 07:56 PM EST

I will most definitely be there opening night. I am a history buff, a GeraRd Butler fan and a Zach Snyder fan. I cannot wait.

Lynne Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 07:54 PM EST

I will most definitely be there opening night. I am a history buff, a GeraRd Butler fan and a Zach Snyder fan. I'll cannot wait.

Dawn Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 03:17 PM EST

Both my husband(45) and I(38) are planning to be there for opening night. As a GERARD(note spelling)ie Gerry Butler fan I can't wait for his first movie in wide release in years!

Talia Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 02:53 PM EST

I'm hoping this will be the movie that Comic book geeks, Frank Miller fans, straight women, mostly GERARD Butler fans, Greek history buffs, gay men, and red blooded males who like the warring aspect will all want to see and will fill those seats on opening night. You can obviously tell which one I am. Go lovely King Leo! We're cheering for you all the way onto your last breath onscreen. By the way, I'm also a Greek history buff!

Anna Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 12:46 PM EST

Am I ready for this movie?
YES I AM!
OK I confess to being a life long comic book fan of the 'older generation'and yes the thoughts of Gerard...Gerry Butler is an additional attraction.
Remember the name is GERRY.
(How can anyone report like this without getting his facts right.)

Sheri Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 11:17 AM EST

Are you kidding me?? I have been eagerly awaiting this movie for months (seems like longer)!!! And for the love of God, will some please get GERARD BUTLER's name right!!

Mike Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 10:44 AM EST

I'll be there opening night and all my friends are as anxious to see this as I am (we're all between 21 and 25). This looks like the most badass movie to come along since Gladiator and Braveheart. The trailer is the best I've ever seen. EVER!

maggie Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 11:40 PM EST

i for one can't wait to see this movie,
starring mr. sexy himself, gerry butler.
have seen the trailer and he looks wonderful.

sign me one of many 10,000 pluse female fans. have been a fan of his since phantom of the opera,
and the press better wake up to this up in coming star!

kcholt68 Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 06:07 PM EST

>Besides, we all loved "The Birdcage", so this is nothing.<

Uh, there was absolutely NO homoeroticism in "The Birdcage" ...

Davy Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 02:30 PM EST

If the movie is anything like the trailer, I expect incredible things.

Claire Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 01:40 PM EST

the actors name is GeraRd Butler, not GeraLd. Thank you.

Kurt Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 01:28 AM EST

I cannot wait for this movie. Opening day, I'll be there.

anne Fri, Feb 2, 2007 at 12:06 AM EST

I'm really weird, in that I have a total girly-girl love of rom-coms (I will admit, I cried during Jersey Girl), but I absolutely LOVE graphic/action/comic book movies, too. Basically, I was mesmerized by the first trailer, and can't wait to see 300!

Thad Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:52 PM EST

Yum! Hunky men with swords. All the geek boys said they loved Princess Leia, but they purchased the Han Solo figure!!

Emma Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 06:57 PM EST

I've watched the trailer for this like twenty times, and every time I get goosebumps. I can't wait to see this (I'm a 27-year-old-girl) and my husband is gung ho too. I don't know if it will make $100 million, but I don't really care, I know we'll be going to see it opening weekend.

Christie Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 06:50 PM EST

This is an example of when a trailer is most effective...it made me want to go see the movie without knowing anything else about it. That doesn't happen often.

RTMS Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 06:25 PM EST

While I am looking forward to it, I really think they should have pushed this to a summer blockbuster movie and pushed it into June or July. March is a dumping ground and it's going to flop bigger than Vendetta did which was released at around the same time last year.

Jeremy Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 06:22 PM EST

I'm a 25 yr old straight male, and all of my other 25 yr old straight male friends have been in a frenzy for this movie since we saw the trailer months ago. We hardly noticed the rapant homoeroticism. Besides, we all loved "The Birdcage", so this is nothing.

Shelbystar Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 06:16 PM EST

I am sooooooooooooo excited to see this movie. A huge group of my friends and I are all going together on opening night. We have been looking forward to this movie for months and months. And excuse me....Gerard Butler IS a STAR and he will only be getting bigger this year and next.

C.C. Chapman Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 05:49 PM EST

One of the most looked forward movies for me in a LONG time.

t3hdow Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 05:13 PM EST

To Auriana:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about God of War viewing the trailer. And I loved Sin City, so there's no way I'm missing this.

Eric Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 04:58 PM EST

When I first heard about the movie last year, I was all 'um, maybe not,' even though I dig greek history & mythology. After seeing the teaser trailer and the new trailer this last weekend (with GB screaming 'This Is SPARTA!'), I'm sooooooo there opening weekend!

Dre Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 04:27 PM EST

Huuuuuuuge fan of the comic! I can't WAIT for this movie!

CJ Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

The first time I saw the trailer, I saw it without sound. The visuals alone were enough for me to get excited about this film. I will be there opening night or soon after.

Rocksteady Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 04:02 PM EST

28 year old mail from NYC... myself and 95% of every guy and girl I know is drooling to see this movie. looks stunning, hopefully the acting can keep pace with the visuals.

Bevvy Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 03:52 PM EST

I could, given enough time (and Gumption), probablt come up with 300 reasons I want to see this movie. I'm pretty sure Gerard Butler is gonna be in the single digits along with Frank Miller and David Wenham.

kcholt68 Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 03:23 PM EST

Are you kidding? This is a gay man's wet dream waiting to happen ... will be there opening day.

Lauren Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:57 PM EST

Think I would go see it because I read somewhere that the male leads had to undergo 6 weeks of buffing up for the battle scenes in which they are mostly if not completely shirtless. And as a woman this appeals to me. Such commitment to the art of acting cannot go unappreciated.

Leigh Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:53 PM EST

Speaking for the females who are only partially fan-geeky (I'll watch the new Battlestar Galactica but avoid anything Star Trek), I am TOTALLY excited to see 300! It looks awesome! And I think you underestimate the intelligence of the average viewer - historical pics, **if** done well, can and do succeed at the boxoffice, just look at GLADIATOR... I think this will be an enormous hit.

Darth Dooku Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:48 PM EST

A lot of people seem to be into this, but not me. The main guy with the beard is way too overdramatic.

maire Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

Since seeing the first teaser trailer lo these months ago, I've been awaiting this movie. I still get goosebumps everytime I see the trailer.

Then again, I'm a hellenophile, cinephile, geek- and-fangirl.

Pracca Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Since I saw the trailer months ago, I have been dying to see this movie. And i am not a geek-fan boy. We girls have taste, too.

Jeff Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:26 PM EST

To Kristi...Pan's Labriynth is all subtitles but well worth your money to see. You won't even realize you are reading them after 5 minutes. Fantastic movie

Ellipsian Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:02 PM EST

"Sin City" rocked. The trailer for "300" rocks. My only concern is that I've heard literally half the movie takes place in slo-mo--and there is a hefty amount of it in the trailer, people--which could get really annoying, and real fast. I'm waiting for some more reviews, but barring a disaster, I'm there opening weekend.

lindsaylou Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:00 PM EST

As a 20 something female who has never read a comic book in her life and didn't really like Sin City (except for the Clive Owen part!), I have to say that I am completely excited to see 300. As soon as I saw the movie trailer with all the half-naked men (especially Gerard Butler), I marked March 9 on the calendar.

Frances Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:38 PM EST

I remember my brother calling me to say that we HAD to see this movie. He wouldn't stop talking about it. Then, I saw the trailer...my jaw dropped. I will be there opening weekend at the IMAX theater and I know I will be amazed.

Verify Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:31 PM EST

I see it the day it opens. And if it's playing at my local IMAX theater, I will be there. After seeing Gerard Butler in "Dear Frankie," I know the man can act. And is incredibly hot.

Scotto Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:24 PM EST

Looks to me like it's going to rule.

poochie Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:19 PM EST

There was a movie already made in the 70's called the "300 Spartans". I enjoyed that movie and that has caused my to be very interested to see how this movie will look. The other movie did focus alot about the history of the battle.

Karen Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:18 PM EST

Frank Miller? Gerard Butler? Greek history? Where do I sign up?

ceej Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

you had me at swords and bare-chests men.

Kristi Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:50 PM EST

My husband (both of us 27) really wants to see it!! He loves anything "gladiatoresque" although he has been shockingly disappointed with some prior "greek" ones such as Alexander so we'll see.... Jason, how did you like Pan's Labrynth, it's not playing around here yet, i was wondering is it all in subtitles?? We also really want to see that one!

Brendan Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:44 PM EST

all my friends have not stopped talking about this since i showed them the trailer. i've been excited about this since day one. and it appears as though it will be stunning. i've read the series, and already i can see in the trailer shot for shot interpretations.

sara Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:14 PM EST

i saw the trailer for this the other night, and it made the hair on the back of my neckstand up. It looks like a gorey feast for the eyes, and i can't wait. I loved sin city, and i love these visuals (the giants look awesome). I hope it is good, and not just pretty to look at.

Jessica Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:14 PM EST

Even though Gerard Butler sucked in Phanton (although, so did everyone else in that horrible movie) he looks like he's in his element here. All he did i Ohantom was yell and pretend he was singing, and here he just has to really yell and look hot.
I'm actually completly pstched to see this film, the trailer is awesome and it also has David Wenham, who I totally heart. So there will be one chick there opening day.

nathan Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

It might be OK, as long as they don't yell out "THIS IS SPARTA" too many times, that could get irritating.

Liz Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:07 PM EST

OMG I have been dying in anticipation for this movie for almost a year!!! I have seen the trailer like 50 times. There is a huuuuge following for this movie! Plus when you put NIN music(Nine Inch Nails) in your trailer well that just shows someone working on the movie is a genius and well I will sooo be there at midnight!!!

Jeanne Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:03 PM EST

20-something female, not a comic book geek, but I will be there on opening weekend. How can I possibly refuse buff half-naked men with swords, odd piercings, and tattoos?

mere Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

I'm a 21 year old female. I normally love comic book movies, and I'll admit that the visuals look awesome. My friends have been talking about it, though, including one who's already seen a screening of it. And while I was originally excited to see 300, everything I've heard has made me NOT want to see it. It's not the violence or the action that turns me off, it's the politics of Frank Miller's work coupled with what I see as misogyny and borderline homophobia. No thanks.

Janice Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:55 AM EST

hot naked men wielding swords... yes please!

Dominic Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:50 AM EST

If it's as overly stylecentric and self-indulgent as "Sin City" was (and it looks like it might even be moreso), I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Bridget Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:47 AM EST

My husband has been counting down for about the last 6 months for this movie; needless to say, we'll be seeing it opening night.

Chris Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:46 AM EST

My Husband and I have been looking forward to this for months!! Can't wait to see it!

Preeti Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:45 AM EST

As a 20-something female, I've been waiting to see this film for ever (ever since apple trailers did that 300 promo on the website every freakin time you went). Admittedly, I'm a geek, and so maybe my opinion is biased... but... g'damn, I think it looks amazing.

Dave Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:40 AM EST

Actually I have been hearing alot of people talk about wanting to see this movie. Due in part to the 300 picture 300 film marketing campaign on Myspace. I have been told by 3 or 4 people that they can't wait to see the flick.

K Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:36 AM EST

The visuals do look amazing, but I don't know if I can take 2 hours of constant yelling. Hopefully the trailer is misleading in that regard.

Jack Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:36 AM EST

As big a comic book fan I am, I never heard of this graphic novel by Frank Miller. So the first time I saw the trailer a few months back, I was stunned, no, hypnotized by the daring visuals. I'm in.

Nick@AwardsAvenue Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:34 AM EST

Yup. I'm going. Mainly because I am intrigued about Zach Snyder, the director, because he seems to be the next big thing. I'm hoping it is not brainless, but since it is coming from Frank Miller, it probably isn't.

Someone has already mentioned it, but the fact that Warner Bros, sponsored the wholesale upgrade of MySpace to 300 available picture slots, means that millions of people are well aware of it already. You can only bet the hype will quicken closer to the release.

As a gay man, bring on the beefcake. :)

chinedu Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:34 AM EST

I am already a huge Frank Miller fan and I was surprised and impressed with his film adaptation of sin city. I only hope with him at the helm of this movie he won't succumb to the pressures of hollywood and dumb down his material. I will definatly be there to see the results.

ct Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:31 AM EST

i can't wait to see this movie. i'm a 27 yr old chick who loves frank miller and loves gerry butler even more!

Ep Sato Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:31 AM EST

Except for Robocop 3, pretty much everything Frank Miller writes makes for good movie fare. Daredevil was a poor man's spider man before Miller came around. Sin City was amazing to watch, even with the Velveeta Cheese dialogue.

IMHO, Ronin would be perfect for a film adaptation and would be a much greater film than yet another LOTR style epic battle sequence movie (seriously? Yawn all over), but will give it a shot anyway.

Let's not toss out CG movies altogether, as Sky Captain's a poor example. Discounting some badazz visuals, movie was kind of crappy.

As for the man nipples, Troy had more than it's fair share of homoerotic undertones, yet it went on to gross $133 million. While some of that may have been ladies wanting to check out a bronzed Brad Pitt, I get the feeling that movie had a similar core audience to 300...

Marie Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:30 AM EST

Five words: Gerard Butler and David Wenham

Two more words: I'm there!

Jason Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:22 AM EST

When my girlfriend and I went to see Pan's Labyrinth, 300 trailored and we simultaneously looked at each other and said "Yes please". This could very well be a hit.

Chris Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:18 AM EST

Me and all of the guys here in college have been talking about this movie for months. This film is headed for a $40-50,000,000+ opening weekend.

Lloyd Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

Ummm... yeah. Best trailer ever. Showed it to my wife and SHE marked it on the calendar, too. So yeah.

panama Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:12 AM EST

for what ive seen....at least visually, its "the matrix" of all roman/greek era movies!!!!and yes! im in!!!

Mr. Pherp Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!! There seemed to be a lot of yelling in the trailer for it.

Auriana Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:06 AM EST

I've been dying to see this film since I first heard about it months ago. The new trailers just make me more excited (and yes, I'm a 27 year old female). Action, history (I'm an archaeologist, what can I say?), the graphics and the violence...I'm there. Now when are they going to make a God of War movie?

Paulo C. Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:05 AM EST

Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro (currently in the cast of Lost) plays Xerxes, the Persian king who threatens the Greeks. He's a fine actor and a big TV and movie star in Brazil. I think he'll do an amazing job in 300.

fredric Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:58 AM EST

Action. Yes. I'm there.

Jai. Deisel Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:52 AM EST

Two words - Gerald Butler. Heck yes I'll be seeing this movie.

Vicky Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:44 AM EST

I'll probably go see it. I'm not dying to, but I know one of my friends will suggest it for a movie outing. Oh and thanks to 300, now we can put that many photos on Myspace...haha. Great advertising right there.

Mozz Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:41 AM EST

it is one of my favorite graphic novels, i will definetely go see it.

Jeremy Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:41 AM EST

Both my wife and I are psyched for this release - if nothing else it looks visually mind-blowing, plus we're both suckers for sword-and-sandals epics.

Liza Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:39 AM EST

I just saw the trailer, and that was enough for me. I'll probably end up seeing it on DVD, when it's my husbands turn to pick the movie.

Court Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:36 AM EST

I am a 25-year-old female, and I, for one, cannot wait.

Dave Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:36 AM EST

The visuals look awesome and the movie itself looks okay, but the appearance of Dominic West (aka Jimmy McNulty from The Wire) ensures that I will be seeing it somewhere down the line, if not in theaters.
