'The O.C.': Pancakes (not Waffles) almost becomes a Peep

Oc_l Welcome back to PopWatch's O.C. DeathWatch. You probably think it's weird that I insist on writing about a failing show every single week. I'm not that sorry. They keep letting me! Look, a bunny!

We reverted somewhat to bizarro world this week. Summer played out her ditz-by-association storyline in reality this time, thanks to the re-return of Holly (pictured, right). I have zero tolerance for Paris Hilton-speak -- and my God, those poor handbagged animals, p.s. I don't even like animals -- but I loved one of the blondes' lines: "Isn't that so adorable you just want to kill yourself?" Yes, kind of! Finally, a complete sentence out of one of them, and it was hilarious. Also bizarre: Taylor's douche-y French ex-husband showed up with his bestselling tell-all sex book, because books take only two months to propose, write, market for two different continents and sell. Okay! I believe it!

Eh, it doesn't really matter at this point. I'm of the opinion that this show can and should do whatever the hell it wants. Throwing Taylor on a major French talk show that had no problem setting up shop in Newport Beach was a good start. I sat and chuckled at its mere title -- Je Pense -- for a good commercial break or so. Nothing associated with Henri-Michel (remember him as the awful blind date on Felicity?) made any sense, but that title was perfect. Unlike Taylor. I'm glad the girl's even smarter than we thought, and winsome on TV (I guess?), but she was a huge bitch to Ryan this episode. This won't be a popular opinion, but might she be better off in France? She seemed all about it.

I was really glad there weren't too many lame Grey's Anatomy references during Seth's trip up to see Doc Roberts at Washington Mercy hospital. Just your typical unicorn-impalement scare (ha!) and four utterances of the word seriously, which was four too many, but kind of inevitable. Loved Che as Summer's pro-owl conscience, Sandy's extremely random Jerry Lewis impression, Kaitlin's first-name basis with Newport Beach's favorite two Recurring Homeless Men, and Kirsten's smackdown of Madame Julie. I can't even imagine what they should do with Julie Cooper before the end of the series, but it better be something good. Involving chaps. Or, like, motherhood.

What did you think? WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN? Don't pretend you don't care.

this season is great, and i'm really sorry to see it go.

BUT, the whole summer/seth "i don't want to marry you"/breakup (did they break up? was it made clear?) is clearly a reflection of their real-life breakup and, therefore, the real-life inevitable awkwardness that accompanies breaking up--at least at the beginning. i was hoping the writers would do us a favor and not have art imitate life in this case (since we all know josh schwartz loves to bring his actors' real-life idiosyncrasies into his scripts). long live summer and seth!

I hate animals..

I LOVE PANCAKES! Even when they are using the stuffed animal version.

It is really sad to hear that the show has been cancelled this is truly the best season yet. And as much as I love my O.C. (I watch it instead of Grey's, because I can watch it online), the idea to stay pin up against Grey's Anatomy was a horrible decision. But what can we do. It's better that they go out with a hell of a season, than some lame 3 episode lesbian girlfriend arc.

I love this season. Love Taylor and Ryan. I am sort of baffled by the falling out between Summer and Seth. But Pancakes is sooo cute. And Summer was a vision in the bride dress. Not that I want them to get actually married. Oh, and the French husband kinda was disappointing - I was expecting s.o. romantic and sexy and this guy is just icky. Definitely picturing him with Taylor doing page 47 is "making want to kill myself"

I am definitely sorry to see the show go - it is so fresh and uplifting!

I'm sick of people getting on here and leaving comments that they are glad the show is over. If your so glad it's going off don't even read this post. Go watch Grey's Anatomy!
Long live THE OC! 'sniff'

Kristin Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 05:05 PM EST

Love- Seth, Ryan, Kaitlin (and her sidekicks), and Sandy & Kirsten.
Hate- Che (with a passion), Taylor's Ex (what a tool), Taylor being so fluent in French, and Summer's new friends.

Eric Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 05:02 PM EST

Umm.. I just want Che and Seth to make out already. You know, Che doesn't want Summmer. He wants her man.

Phil Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 04:56 PM EST

Its a shame Pancakes & the crew won't be around for an Easter-themed epsisode in which he starts talking to Summer & admonishes life changing advice, only for us viewers to discover it was all a dream sequence in which Chris Pratt's Che asks for Seth's hand in marriage in an O.C.-future where same sex marriage is legal.....*SIGH* I WILL MISS THIS SHOW!

Heeey Laaaaaaaadyyyyyy!

mike Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 04:43 PM EST

I'm not going to say I don't care. But,I DVRed the show so I could fast-forward through most of Taylor's talk show and all of Kaitlin's scenes. The rest of the show was good. Sort of season one, sort of.
Fox has taken a page from the WB/CW and is counting down the episodes that are left.

Tony Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 04:41 PM EST

I do care and will miss this show! It is better than ever this year.
