Rumor control: That 'Factory Girl' love scene

Factory_l How come I feel dirty every time I have to write about Sienna Miller? I mean, she seems like a nice lady and a fine actress (she was particularly wonderful in 2005's underrated Casanova). But with Miller (pictured, in Factory Girl), it just always seems to be about sex, sex, sex. This even though, as she made clear to EW last fall, she's ready to be taken seriously as more than just Jude Law's on-again-off-again fiancée. And you have to respect that.

Which makes today's rumor, that Miller and her Factory Girl costar Hayden Christensen weren't pretending when they shot a sex scene for their film, particularly unsettling—especially because it reeks of having been planted by a hyperactive PR machine trying to drum up interest in the Edie Sedgwick biopic, which opens in very limited release on Friday. My goodness, what a way to improve an actress' reputation! As it turns out, Hayden probably didn't hold Sienna like he did by the lake on Naboo, says TMZ, whose report quotes Sienna's rep as denying the rumor.

But I wonder: Would this salacious tidbit really encourage you to see Factory Girl, or would it have the opposite effect? I mean, I suppose when I heard that Mickey Rourke and Carre Otis may have actually gotten it on in Wild Orchid, I got interested in that film. But, good Lord, I was 14 at the time. The jury may be out on me, but everybody else has grown up since then, right? Right?

i thought the movie was quite good, and was very successful in piquing my interest in edie. frankly i found sienna to be a very convincing actress and looked remarkably like her subject.

I think that sienna miller is an amazing actress, everyone has a right to there own opinion but that kate VV does not, obviously because she is a straight edge square DUH

People should lay off Sienna! She was great in Factory Girl and her acting should be what she's judged on not her personal life or public appearances. It's unfortunate that her connection to Jude Law is the first thing people think of because she really is a talented actress and that's all that should be taken into account.

RobinG Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 03:36 PM EST

Since when is a 'love of the spotlight' a problem for an actress? Sienna's problem isn't that. It's that she's a beyotch! Did you hear about her dropping the F-bomb on the Today Show because the camera lingered on her a little too long. Jude Law is better off without her and can do much better!

KateDFW Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

Her publicist says it only looks real because she is such a great actress? How about it looks real because she is such a skanky actress? I could care less about her and even less about Jude Law. I wouldn't pay money to see either of them in a movie, not even a DVD rental!

GeeMoney Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:59 PM EST

I don't think anyone cares enough about Sienna Miller to go see her in a film, real sex scene or not.

dee Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:28 PM EST

Sienna is an enormously talented actress who has a major problem. A love of the spotlight! She denies herself the acclaim that she could have by constantly making herself "news." She benefits buzz-wize from these implicit relationships w/ multiple men and her fashion sense but it detracts from her talent & ultimately denies her respect. In the end, while H-wood ignores the antics of most male actors, they r not so forgiving of actresses. This is a long way of saying that I have already seen her way too much everywhere and so I have no desire to see this movie despite the fact that she is an oscar caliber actress. Less is more!

anne Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:23 PM EST

She annoys me to the point of madness. I would probably watch the movie, if she weren't in it. This happens to be the case with a lot of movies out recently.

Justine Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:14 PM EST

I saw this movie already online and there is no way they really had sex in that scene. It was like a Skinemax movie where you are like "huh, is he humping her back?" Ha, but the movie overall was pretty good. Guy Pierce was the best part, though.

dma69 Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 12:02 PM EST

Normally I wouldn't watch because of a nobody (Sienna) that's only famous because she dated a famous person (Jude), but I'm curious only because I always found the Factory years fascinating and I read Edie: An American Biography a few years ago. It's a good read once you get through the family tree and on to Edie's immediate family and her Warhol days. I'll wait till it's on DVD.

Marcy Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

She seems like a nice lady? What makes her seem nice?

faithless Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 11:04 AM EST

sienna is just "famous" because of her relationship with jude law!didn´t was her in a movie and don´t want to

Allison Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:45 AM EST

I have no desire to Sienna in any movie. I don't know if anyone recalls, but she made all those slurs about the city of Pittsbughr a few months back. She said she couldnt wait to get back to NYC. I'm from Pittsburgh, and for her to insult the city welcomed her is just a crappy move. Go back to New York. Keep being a media whore. No one's paying attention to you anyway.

Winn Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 10:18 AM EST

This whole crapfest is infuriating, because it has ruined my anticipation for and desire to see this movie. I'm a big fan of the whole Warhol factory ethos, and the prospect of the great Guy Pearce playing Warhol has me salivating. But Sienna Miller's distasteful and annoying bid for stardom at any price (other than actually working for it) has turned me off from the film completely. I was willing to think she might have potential after I saw Casanova (loads of fun, but inferior to the TV version with the delightful combination of Peter O'Toole and David Tennant last year) and Layer Cake, but now I'm starting to think that Heath Ledger and Daniel Craig were just so good I gave her too much credit. I guess I'll go turn up "Edie" by The Cult, sulk and curse Sienna Miller, and wait for the DVD.

Annie Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 08:57 AM EST

Who cares? Haven't seen one Sienna Miller movie and don't plan to.

I wouldn't know she exists except for her connection to Jude Law.

Diane Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 07:44 AM EST

Art film released in February generally = bad movie (good ones are released in the fall for award season) Therefore total planted story. And sad.

Thomas Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:42 AM EST

Yes, WE've all grown up, but there are still a lot of 14-year old boys around...

Insightful_One Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:22 AM EST

I've always wondered what it takes for emotional actors and actresses to do an explicit love scene together. This news is tittilating enough to get guys hung up on Sienna Miller to watch this arty movie about Andy Warhol. Most actors and actresses fake penetration with the infamous "sock" over the male's private. But there would be definitely times of "slippage" because it will become erect. The last love scene that I saw that I was sure was not faked, was Halle Berry's love scene in Monster's Ball. There's a moment in Billy Bob Thornton's face and with the images that you know that it wasn't fake anymore and that it was real. It made the scene even more compelling, and it actually furtively won Halle Berry the Oscar for "putting it all out there." Stating that it was real directly, makes it scandalous though, and robs it of its dramatic weight.

ns Thu, Feb 1, 2007 at 02:02 AM EST

I agree: publicity stunt. Another film where one of the stars implied that actual sex took place was Tattoo, which I think came out around 1980. The stars in question were Bruce Dern and Maud Adams, and not surprisingly it was Dern who claimed he hit paydirt.

Jim515 Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 11:47 PM EST

In this day and age, why would you go see a movie because of a sex scene, "real" or not? Just wait, and it'll be on the Internet anyway.

Jasper Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 10:35 PM EST

Rebecca, Jim and BrandonK pretty much summed it up. I don't think ANYTHING can make me care about Sienna Miller. And if Christiansen is gay and trying to hide it, I wouldn't put it past Ms 'Topless in Vanity Fair' to go along with it just for publicity. How boring. I bet next she'll make a racial comment about Asians publicly and then apologize and meet with Asian rights groups. Yuck!!

Rebecca Kelley Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 07:33 PM EST

If Sienna Miller tried any harder to get attention for her career, she'd be attending premieres in the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile.

I was sick of her before I even saw her in anything, and then I saw her in a couple of movies and confirmed my suspicions that she's a so-so actress who needs to stop dressing like a Bobo (Bohemian hobo) and inexplicably getting starring roles.

Sienna, you are such an attention whore that you DON'T EVEN WEAR PANTS TO PREMIERES. Yeah, no one will think of you as a serious actress when your idea of "fashion forward" attire is Leggs control top pantyhose. Stop. It. Now.

jim Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 06:59 PM EST

Maybe the PR is for Hayden's benefit. The rumors about him being gay are out there.

nathan Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 06:49 PM EST

Is Daniel Radcliffe in Factory Girl? And if he is, does he show it all? and if he does, how will that affect his Harry Potter image? and if it affects his Harry Potter image positively, will he start pulling it out in those movies?

dolorescraeg Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 06:38 PM EST

i wish sienna would erase the name of jude law from her interviews. they are finished...kaput...why does she still use him as a hook. in the current life magazine she says she lost her innocence when nannygate occurred. she's had so many boy friends before jude even at a very young age. she didn't have any innocence to lose. she's cute and fun but this is the wrong approach for longevity in a career. if she wants to be jessica simpson or paris hilton she's headed in that direction. i find her distasteful and i thank god that jude law finally got her number.

brandonk Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 06:09 PM EST

How about "Does not affect my decision"? Cuz I don't plan on seeing that movie regardless.

Delon Wed, Jan 31, 2007 at 05:59 PM EST

I think it was Vogue who called her the ex-lover of a second rate actor and a roadkill. SO TRUE !!!!!
