I get pretty tired of Colbert's whole act, and I wouldn't watch O'Reilly's show if my life depended on it, but I'll still watch the Colbert Report for this. I'm sure it'll be as good as the guitar competition in December.

This could be pretty funny. O'Reilly will be his usual blowhard self on Colbert, and Colbert will manage to honor and ruthlessly mock him at the same time. However, it'll be interesting to see whether Colbert his himself or his character on O'Reilly's show, where he won't be the one in control and will be somewhat out of his element. Either way, I'd rather see him take on O'Reilly directly (no matter who he's being) than fawn over him with little or no substance in the conversation.

To this day, my favorite spar was between Jon Stewart and Tucker Carlson. Stewart's stinging commentary hit Tucker so hard that Tucker's show got cancelled a week later. If Cobert is able to get O'Reily cancelled, it'll be like a dream come true. I hope O'Reily doesn't sexually harass Colbert before he makes it onto the show though...

I'm looking forward to this. I don't watch O'Reilly much anymore but I think Colbert's show is great. I wonder if Colbert will be his real self on O'Reilly or if he'll continue to be his persona. Meanwhile he'll probably have a throne for O'Reilly to sit on at The Colbert Report.

I, for one, can't wait for this one. I saw O'reilly on Jon Stewart just after the announcent of Colbert. He was genuinely "ticked off", but I think it's worn off. Anyway, O'Reilly had the showdown as his Most Ridiculous Item of the Day tonight with some very funny press releases from both Comedy and Fox Networks.

Well Jeff, Sean Hannity seems like more of a parody than Colbert does. I don't actually spend my free time discussing Bill O'reilly, but this question came up, so I answered it.

O'reilly seems to believe himself a journalist, as well being the guardian of Christmas. He, and people like him, have made the Christmas season something to dread every year, because for about a month and a half we have to hear this inane shouting about what kind of decorations stores are going to use, and what greeting the sales clerk I've never met before is going to use. I don't care if they don't say anything but 'thanks for shopping here.'

Ned - While I know I'll be alone on this (how dare a conservative be interested in the entertainment industry!), I don't think that O'Reilly really thinks of himself as a journalist. Now, I could be wrong (I don't watch his show much), but I don't think he or anyone in FoxNews's prime time line-up sees themselves as journalists. They are talking heads - their shows are all about opinions (similar to Olbermann on MSNBC). I think it's funny that rather balanced O'Reilly gets all the bashing, but the too-far-to-the-right-for-his-own-good Sean Hannity is left in his wake.

Anyway, I think Colbert's spoofing of O'Reilly is a hoot, so I'll be watching at least the Colbert Report that night.

I love Stephen Colbert, but I have no desire to see Bill O'reilly. I admit O'reilly is a talented entertainer, but a respectable journalist he is not. I think at first he wasn't so bad, but his own press started going to his head, and he actually started to believe what the FOX pr team was spewing about him. I think I'll skip it.

I can't wait for this one. I'm sure there will be some tension between the two. O'Reilly knows that Colbert is essentially a character that mocks his persona. It will be entertaining for sure.

Showdown? That implies confrontation. Why would you think this would be anything but a soul-affirming outpouring of respect displayed between Stephen and his beloved Papa Bear? They do need to appear on both shows, however, because one just isn't big enough to contain their giant sets of [admiration for one another].
