'The O.C.': Everyone misses She Who Will Not Be Named

14510__autumn_l Wow, Fox loves this show so much it wants to air all the episodes at once! The third installment of don't-call-it-a-comeback Season 4 revolved around the girl who died... without mentioning her name. It was actually really cool -- Summer sputtering out "I miss my friend" and a resigned Julie asking Ryan to "tell me about her" made sense considering the characters still aren't at the point where they can toss the Bag o' Bones' name around lightly. In fact, the only time I remember experiencing the name this season was when it was shown on her tombstone. I want pizza.

Or do I want... Chili's? Chili's? Really? Most blatant O.C. product placement ever! Marc Jacobs, Lexus, and In N Out have nothing on this.

Two words: Taylor Townsend (Autumn Reeser, pictured). As the one person you'd think would have no connection to Cohen family holidays, she ended up tying everything together. In a mostly somber episode, we desperately needed her comic relief -- wailing in really simple French, quoting the Bible, requesting egg whites and cantaloupe from Seth, and becoming yet another woman Kirsten can resent for calling her Kiki. Despite her own mom drama, Taylor also acted as the voice of reason. Seth needed her advice on how to leave Summer alone for the time being as much as Kiki needed help not butchering the food.

What else? Ryan and Volchok somehow worked through their shiz without anyone dying... and without anyone saying Dead Girl's name. We endured yet another joke about Sandy's eyebrows, as well as a clunky reference to Grey's Anatomy. Also, It's really fun to watch Seth mangle Summer's nose with his mouth in slow-mo. Try it! And finally...

MARISSA.

Agghhh!

I know some people think that Taylor was great at bringing comic relief to the 4th season, I hated her character. It was ridiculous that she and Ryan ending getting together, Taylor was terrible to them in season 3. The producers should have sprung for a new actress as Ryan's distraction from Marissa, not annoying and hated Taylor Townsend!

I've followed every season of The OC, and i think that i can honestly say that this season is not one of my favorites. I think i can also say that i hate the fact that they are hinting that Taylor and Ryan are going to hook up. I used to hate Taylor, and i suppose some of the hatred for her from the past season is still lingering. Dont get me wrong though, i still am obsessed with the show, i just liked it better when Marissa was around. It gets annoying how now in all the episodes, everything is revolving around her death and how dramatic they are trying to make it. I liked the show when Marissa, Ryan, Seth, and Summer were the stars, and they were all together fighting gossip. Personal opinion though i guess because after reading some of the posts, everyone is seeming to eat up and love Taylor Townsend and all the drama she is going to stir up this season. Guess i'll have to get used to her being around alot more. :-)

I love Taylor. What an injection of fresh fun into a show I thought had forgotten how to enjoy itself. Even Seth was back to his funny self amid all the drama. Give me more Taylor. Get her with Ryan to lighten him up too.

After an AMAZING season 1, a hit-and-miss season 2, and the misfire that was season 3 (the Johhny story was just...UGH!), it's great to see this back to it's former glory. The new additions are great (esp Taylor), the storys are back on form, and actors seem rejuvinated. While I was sad to see Marissa go, I hope this show can reclaim some of it's viewers. Def must-see-OC again.

I don't know how the female portion of the audience feels about her, but I am majorly crushing on Taylor Townsend. That is all.

Sara Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 11:45 PM EST

My favorite part was when Kaitlyn told Taylor that's she's crazy and it's totally cool. "I know, isn't it?!?" Really, I had to stop watching this show for a couple of seasons but I am super glad it's back to its former glory. Viva la O.C.!

Harry - that was Ann Coulter on Summer's shirt! The wife and I couldn't figure that one out, either, because I thought it was Marissa at first too.

Satisfying episode. Next week looks good too.

harry Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 10:17 PM EST

it was ann coulter on summer's t-shirt

Kim Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 07:17 PM EST

Beachmom, I don't think that was Marissa imprinted on Summer's shirt, because it had a red circle and slash through it. I don't know who it was and I kept trying to get a good look at it but they wouldn't show it directly. Anybody?

beachmom Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 06:25 PM EST

soon the automated robots will figure out how to post...be afraid, be very afraid....
the end is nigh!!!

beachmom Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 06:24 PM EST

am i the only one who thought sandy was going to invite volchok for thanksgiving dinner and then invite him to stay in the pool house?
and was that she-who-has-no-name imprinted on summer's t-shirt?
it's pretty sad that the OC is confusing me!!!
but i still love it....

She said Bag o' Bones! HAHAHAHA

Long live THE O.C.!!! FYI, for all those really observant product placement followers, Chilis is taking a page out of Applebee's handbook! An Applebees restaraunt has appeared in almost EVERY episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. The blond on-again/off-again g/f of Taylor Kitch's character, Tim Riggins is even a waitress there.

Kristin Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 04:26 PM EST

I love this show, and this season has been fantastic. I just wish people would give it a chance so it can be picked up for a whole 24-25 episodes!

Sarah Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 04:06 PM EST

I thought Kiki learned how to cook in the midst of her unemployed/alcoholic phase. Taylor's help was amusing though.

Rob Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 04:05 PM EST

This season deserves to have its TV Watch back! What do you say, EW?

melissa Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 03:43 PM EST

Summer's dad actually did mention Marissa's name in the excellent scene @ the car w/ Julie. Also, that was soo good the way the action switched between Summer & Julie avoiding their feelings of grief...

Brett Colbo Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 03:43 PM EST

Where can we see last night's episode? FOX was showing episodes of "The O.C." on myspace, but they don't have last night's episode. And FOX isn't like the other stations, besides The CW, that doesn't have an "innertube" or like program to catch up on old episodes. Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Also, Taylor is the best addition to the cast that could have been made. Now, when she hooks up with Ryan, that will be the telltale sign as to whether people will accept TayTay and all of her glory. We all know Ryan's had a plethora of flings (Marissa, Lindsay, Sadie) but one that can go toe-to-toe with Seth in rounds of witty banter and hilarious consequences? Could Ryan have found his female Seth? Looks like it!

Karoline Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 03:27 PM EST

I am really liking this season, too. The scene with the homeless guy reclaiming his dog from Marissa Jr. was hilarious. If this is the last season, at least it'll go out on a high note. Would love to see Michael Nouri end up doing a guest shot on Grey's Anatomy. How about it?

Monica Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 03:23 PM EST

I'm really liking this season, it's back to The O.C. we all loved in the first place. (And your right on the ball with your comments about Taylor).
