More celebs will be wearing The Buzzhawk, soon as we grab our shears

1036__maddox_l Breaking news from MTV.com: The buzzhawk is in! It's a combination between a mohawk (think Travis Barker) and the fauxhawk (think Maddox Jolie-Pitt, pictured). Two celebrities (Diddy and David Beckham) have a buzzhawk, so it's absolutely a trend. Really?

And yes, we're taking fashion cues from a five year-old. Can we not?

People who could pull off a buzzhawk

-Keira Knightley
-George Clooney
-Madonna
-This isn't very fun. How about:

People who I'd like to give a buzzhawk to in their sleep just because

-The Simpson sisters, so that they might go into hiding
-The doctors on Grey's Anatomy so we could see if people would unconditionally obsess over them without the floppy hair
-Tom Cruise ('Cause you know he's got a little Travis Bickle in him waiting to burst forth.)
-Everyone on The View
-Tyra Banks (One per weave... so I guess I'd have to do it daily.)
-Joey Lawrence (Whoops, too late!)

Who else? "Let the great experiment begin!" (Five points if you can name that quote.)

Donald Trump...couldn't be worse than what he has now!

If you really want to start a trend, give one to Oprah. Suburban housewives everywhere with a buzzhawk would be hi-larious! "Let the great experiment begin!" ~Tobias Funke

Dr. Tobias Funke Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 02:37 PM EST

Indeed, "let the great experiment begin" was a comment by the ex-psychiatrist Dr. Tobias Funke in the season 2 premiere "The One Where Michael Leaves" of Arrested Development. Dr. Funke was referring to the "open marriage" experiment that he was embarking upon with his wife Lindsay where they would each date other people. Lindsay could not find someone interested in her romantically and was rejected by Tom Jane, while Tobias attempted to join the Blue Man group.

Quote from Clueless?

If you'll really do the Simpson sisters I'll help lure them in by pretending that I'm John Mayer's / Nick Carter's assistant and they'd really like to get together....

Also up for the chopping block: any/all celebutants, Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer, Julia Roberts and Donald Rumsfeld....

hey Nathan, Does it feel good to make fun of a 5 year old?

Me thinks Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 11:53 AM EST

I agree with Jennifer Aniston (would take away from that giant chin).

Oh, but she'll just end up going on Oprah and deny (lie) that she ever had it done in the first place!!

Yikes! Thanks for spotting that typo, Josh! It's fixed, now.

Tom Cruse: Spelling Impossible

(er, you forgot the 'i')

It looks like that kid Maddox has about as much going on upstairs as his mother.

Dave Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 10:50 AM EST

I know that picture of Maddox is a few years old, but I still love it. I mean, how cool does that kid look?? As for celebrities who I'd love to deface (de-hair?) by giving them this haircut, I agree with all those mentioned, but I'd also add Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritche, and Lindsay Lohan for obvious reasons. And this just came to me and is totally out of left field, but who else thinks someone like Cloris Leachman would pull this off?

woah woah woah. The Buzzhawk was worn by Flea (Red Hot Chili Pepper's fame) and became a "youth trend" in 1991-1992! Dontcha remember the video for "give it away" off the Blood Sex Sugar Magic album? The video was only on MTV every 10 minutes (splitting airtime with "Losing My Religion").

That video (it's buzzhawk shots and pop appeal) made the RHCP AND buzzhawks cool to a non-punk audience. I can remember how trippy it was to see the entire football team with mowhawks and buzzhawks, as before the mohawks were worn only by the skaters and punk revivalists. It seems MTV is rehashing a trend they helped start, and it seems the staffs of MTV and EW again proves to have no pop culture short term memory.

Does the return of buzzhawks reveal a return to 90's fashion? If so, I've got a closet full of Doc Martens and Swingers-Inspired lounge shirts to sell off as "vintage". Any takers?

Dominique L. Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 10:17 AM EST

Tobias Fünke in Arrested Develpoment. (The quote, not the buzzhawk.)

LindaLou Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 10:07 AM EST

Jennifer Aniston...

without her so-called, constantly mentioned by the press, "great hair", maybe she'll finally fade away from the public, once and for all!
