Snap judgment: Justin Timberlake's 'My Love' video

151353__paxilback_l It's too early in the ay-em for coherent thought. So I'm going stream-of-consciousness with my thoughts on Justin Timberlake's latest video for "My Love." Feel free to do the same.

Loooong intro. Is this thing on a loop? Oh wait, no, Justin and Timba are playing rock paper scissors! Missy got somethin to say... ride down the block in an Escalayyyde. Whew, finally, here comes the actual song. That ant-sized Justin is very "Bedtime Story." Until it's not. Those flying instruments when Justin sez "symphony," cheesy. A little bit of old-school Gap, but not quite. Liking the dancing. Wishing the editor would chill for a second. You can't even see the moves. It's like editor-as-choreographer. Mariah Carey ought to hire him/her if she ever needs to fake her way through a dance routine. Lots of flashing lights. Gah! Too much light makes baby go blind -- or have a seizure. Did he just rip off that chick's stocking? Is it wrong to say this would be more fun in color? Whoa. T.I. WHOA! You look goooood! Justin who? Wait a second. What's this? Women -- the new tabletop accessory! Classy... not! Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm. Doodlie-doo. Wow this video is long. At least there's no mankerchief. But I guess in the end, this is just aiight for me. Respeck.

By the way, if JT's ubiquitous ''SexyBack'' has you feelin' a SexyBacklash, check out this Paxil-poppin' parody (pictured).

I dunno wat u all are thinking when u criticizing this video. If u complain about the intro, maybe its cuz ur just another downloaders. Its the interlude from the song before that in his album (Sexy ladies, its called). And if u complain about dancing, then maybe u needa dance urself first. Dancers only trynna create illusion in their moves to entertain people. Dont say its N'sync style or wateva style and u hate it cuz its old. Its JT's style.
And FYI, i was never JT's fan, but im actually giving him respect for this album. Him and Timbaland just took RnB to the whole new level.

ok heres how it really is. They need to cut that intro out all together. when i first heard it i thought somethin was wrong with my ipod. the dancing...its dabatable. Its a good style but its so Nsync they need something new and sharper. The song over all is kick @$$

is the intro an actual song, or just made for the video? sad to say, its my favorite part of the video, i'd like to know where i can get just that part.

Jesus, if that's the case then Justin officially sucks when it comes to his lyrics. WTF does "Go head, be gone with it" means? Doesn't my version makes more sense? Really.

Me bad, Ernesto.

Martha Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 07:34 PM EST

The intro is way too long. JT is a pretty good singer and dancer, but I totally don't get him as a sex symbol. Mystifying.

Tatiana Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 06:14 PM EST

No Vivi, Ernesto's right. It is "go ahead, be gone with it".

Vivi Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 05:34 PM EST

Love the song. Love the dancing. I mean, it's the dancing that keeps this video interesting. I was expecting a somewhat cheesy video due to the somewhat cheesy lyrics in the song (eg. "If I wrote you a symphony...") but this turned out ok.

And oh yes, T.I. is one sexy rapper. Kinda hard to find these days, right? Too bad he's a tad bit on the short side.

Ernesto, it's "Go head, be GROWN with it."

If this is what passes for videos now, I'll go back to UTube for the 80's and 90's videos. The paxil song was great.

Tatiana Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 04:15 PM EST

I agree with everything you said Slezak. I like the song, dancing, and T.I.... couldn't you have him in the video a little longer Mr. Timberlake? Don't worry about the intro, it and more than half the dance moves will disappear on TRL. All in all, if it gets people away from "Sexyback" I'm cool with it.

Thad Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 04:07 PM EST

Hot Song, Hot Video. period. All haters step aside. Its only good pop cd to come out this year.

Ellipsian Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 02:22 PM EST

Slezak:

A) You referenced my Missy's "Lick Shots" and my very favorite video of all time, "Bedtime Story"! My love (heh heh) for you grows everyday. Man, but do I ever heart you!

B)The intro is too long and repetitive (and will soon disappear after the video is on MTV...er, a channel that plays actual videos, after the first week). I dig the black/white switch, too, but I need a bit more focus, mmkay? I think the dancing is cool but it's hard to tell, what with my eyes spasming and all rolled back in my head. Totally needs SOME color...it's a bit tedious after awhile. Also dig the extended dancing/camera work at the end, though get ready to quote me when we see umpteenth parodies--Justin's moves are ripe for the laughing.

C) Whoa. Those guys TOTALLY made me want a Paxil real bad.

While we're on the subject of Timba, can someone tell me if Nelly Furtado's "Maneater" is the song of the same title by Hall & Oates? I've heard it a couple of times and tried to listen closely but then I just end up more confused.....

ceej Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 12:30 PM EST

The song and the video remind me of Aaliyah for some reason. Especially the choreography. Very "Try Again" to me. Dang... I miss her.

Ernesto Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 11:20 AM EST

more timbercrap what has the world come to when a number one single features the line "go head be gone with it" throughout almost the whole damn thing and now this...really will somebody take this guy's battery off please.I do need my meds now!

jason Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 10:34 AM EST

it's an ok video, i do like it switching back and forth from black to white backgrounds, but it is a little like being on a drug trip with the quick back-and-forth editing. and i agree T.I. is the most attractive rapper out there. he could be a model

Dee Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 09:37 AM EST

I like it..

Charlie Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 09:30 AM EST

I agree with the comment about the editing. Justin Timberlake is a great dancer, right? So it would be nice if the video would LET US SEE HIM DANCE.

Pslightly Psycho Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 09:23 AM EST

ANYTHING Justin Timberlake does has me reaching for my meds.

Jesse Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 07:00 AM EST

T.I.....that man is beautifull, he seriously needs to switch teams

shelby Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 06:25 AM EST

I don't like his most recent videos, as they are trying too hard to be "arty" and "visionary." Whereas we all know he's trying to dominate the genre by using Madonna(the queen of the medium) as inspiration and not really succeeding. We've seen it all before...

Sally Mon, Oct 16, 2006 at 06:11 AM EST

Is that Rosario Dawson in the video. Like the song, as for the video, after a while they all look alike.
