Eddie hearts Scary

145620__murphy_scary_l What is it that creeps me out about the coupling of Eddie Murphy and Scary Spice, as chronicled in extensive detail in this new People article? Actually, what is it that doesn't creep me out about it? I guess the most obvious thing is that it throws a monkey wrench in the Eddie Murphy comeback narrative that's been developing over the last few months, thanks to good buzz about his serious performance in Dreamgirls. Here he is, about to get his actorly and even his musical credibility restored, and he goes and takes up with a manufactured pop footnote who refuses to stay in 1997 where she belongs. Now she gets to be the gal who landed Eddie Murphy, but he's stuck being the guy dating a Spice Girl. That's just not right.

OKAY, GARY......... THREE WORDS FOR YA:

TITS AND ASS

THAT GIRL'S GOT A LOT OF BOTH; SHE HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE EDDIE FEEL LIKE A MAN. I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR HIM AT ALL; HE'S PROBABLY GETTING THE BEST SEX HE'S EVER HAD IN HIS LIFE! WAY TO GO, EDDIE! I AIN'T MAD AT HIM; LET HIM HANDLE HIS BUSINESS!

Dion D.Kelly Fri, Sep 22, 2006 at 07:08 PM EST

Being the huge Eddie Murphy fan I am,I'm shocked that he and Scary Spice are supposedly a couple now.Yeah, sure,he,s got every right to move on with his life,BUT COME ON!! WHY SCARY SPICE??? SHE'S NOT PRETTIER THAN EDDIE'S EX-WIFE NICOLE MURPHY!Anyone with good eye sight can certainly see that! Imagine being married to HALLE BERRY 12 years, then gettiing a divorce, and dating WHOOPIE GOLDBERG. Why Eddie? WHY??? What in the world could Scary Spice do for Eddie,(or do to Eddie),that Nicole could'nt do,or has'nt already done????? Not much,in my opinion!

Todd Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 02:32 PM EST

Does this mean that Scary Spice is a trannie?

Stephanie Travitsky Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 01:15 PM EST

So let me get this straight? Mel B. really, really, wants to party all the time? Mwahahaha!

Rob Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 11:19 AM EST

When did Eddie have time to bond with Ginger, Sporty, and Posh? We all know that if he wants to be her lover he's gotta get with her friends. I'm just sayin.
Also, Party All the Time was AWESOME! Don't diss Eddie.

Joe C Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 10:11 AM EST

Eddie Murphy is always the man. I am a child of the 80's, and he is great. Stay away from the music, though.

blackpower Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 09:37 AM EST

I'm just happy they didn't announce he was dating JOHNNY GILL!

Ep Sato Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 09:26 AM EST

Hey man, say what you will about Eddie's new chica, but at least she isn't as bad as the hooker dude was found driving around with a few years back ago. Eddie's got hisself a decent chica and I hold out a lot of hope that he'll come back. Maybe he and the ever funny Charlie Murphy can get together now that they are both famous.

Juju Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 12:09 AM EST

Eddie Murphy does not need permission to like someone. He knows what he is looking for in a woman. Besides, it could be they are just friends. She may just be the type of person he needs right now.

Silas Bent Sun, Sep 17, 2006 at 06:55 PM EST

How does everyone not know he's gay?

Superdeez Sun, Sep 17, 2006 at 03:04 AM EST

Susman.. stop being bitter.

Kayla Sun, Sep 17, 2006 at 02:58 AM EST

I get it Susman, you want to get into a class system? She's so "done" therefore she shouldn't be with this actor cause she'll bring him down? Stop being foolish man. and shallow. and.. oh wait.. who are you? you write blogs? riiiight

tim Sun, Sep 17, 2006 at 01:33 AM EST

Forever Melanie B!!

Mark Sun, Sep 17, 2006 at 12:00 AM EST

This is a pretty pathetic article. Seriously. If it was supposed to be funny, it's not. If it's supposed to be serious, it was crass, mean-spirited and pompous. This was just bad all around.

Jesse Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 06:51 PM EST

I have to agree with the above posters, Susman - stop bashing Mel B., aka Scary Spice! Love em' or hate em', you have to give the Spice Girls credit for the amount of #1 hit singles they were able to accomplish in the late 90's. In the span of a few short years, they were *THE* pop sensation. And - laugh at me all you want, but I happen to think they were quite talented. I'm still hoping for a reunion someday!

Regardless of how you feel about them as a group - what did Mel B. ever do to you? What makes Eddie Murphy such a catch and makes Mel B. so unworthy of him? Pull your claws out! Slezak should have been given this article, you know he would be giving Mel B. some Spicy lovin'! :-)

Adee Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 04:11 PM EST

What I find interesting is that both Eddie's ex-wife Nicole and his current lady, Melanie are bi-racial and that their mothers are English.

Chele Belle Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 01:42 PM EST

To paraphrase Lucinda: Gary, dude, that was harsh.

Ya know he ain't all that. AND she's not some total wash out. She had her share of success and so has he.
Geesh thank God Eddie ain't a white fella or she'd be driven out of the country.

DDH Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 10:42 AM EST

If David Beckham can marry a spice girl, why can't Eddie date one? You balk now, but I am sure that back in 1997 they were on the cover of EW and you were raving about them.

Lucinda Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 05:54 AM EST

Gary, dude, that was harsh.

Jill Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 12:00 AM EST

Grow up, Gary Susman. Melanie Brown has moved on from the Spice Girls (over 10 years ago). Is that your major point about why Eddie should not date her? I think you're more creepy than Scary Spice.

brandonk Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 11:31 PM EST

Eddie Murphy's no catch, so they seem perfect for each other.

Jasper Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 11:09 PM EST

Oh so on the actual subject: I think that Eddie will probably be the best thing in Dreamgirls which so far looks underwhelming. I don't think Scary will cause any harm to his image or anything. I mean at least she's not a transvestite hooker, (not that there's anything wrong with being a good samaritan). Oh and Phil please stop listening to Wendy Williams for ANY reason. And 'Hot Guys Dating Fug Girls is the New Black' I love your name=)

Jasper Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 11:03 PM EST

I hate to get 'political' and bring up decade-old debates but I ALWAYS hated that the black one had to be Scary Spice. There I said it. That's a horrible picture of her but I thought that she and Posh were the prettiest (if not the only pretty ones). Just like Lark Voorhies was the hottest one on Saved By The Bell (I know even older debate!) but she got stuck with Screech as her lapdog. Jesse and Kelly were hot too though.........what was I talking about?

bootsycolumbia Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 10:33 PM EST

Gary, this isn't news. Who cares who Eddie is dating? He's still a talented guy and I'm still looking forward to seeing him in Dreamgirls.

ericalina Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 09:29 PM EST

reina, by "shaky lately," i presume you mean, "divorced"! they have been done since this spring. imdb has them divorced since april.

but actually, who cares who eddie murphy is dating? to me, they are both kinda washed up, but i certainly don't think any less of him for dating a spice girl. whatevs!

Todd Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 08:46 PM EST

I thought that was a pic of Wanda Sykes

Reina Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 08:03 PM EST

Hey if they are happy, good for them. Gotta live and let live. I also think that Eddie's marriage has been shaky lately.

Alicia, certainly agree with you about the picture that was used. Scary looks like she was posing for Halloween masks.

Alicia Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 07:42 PM EST

Susman, you couldn't choose a better picture of Scary Spice than that? She looked a thousand times better in the picture on the People website, and that picture was fuzzy.

Having said that, if they're happy then good for them.

JKS Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 07:00 PM EST

WTF? Who cares that they're dating? Put yer claws back!

Cassie Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 05:59 PM EST

Scary Spice is amazing! She was the best part about The Spice Girls. Why all the bitterness?

Mike in Moncton Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 05:57 PM EST

Susman, you're a mean spirited idiot.

Phil Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 05:04 PM EST

I actually heard about this on Wendy Williams breifly the other day, and I thought she was just referencing someone as Scary Spice, NEVER actually assuming it was THE Spice girl! So question I got is this...Did Scary break-up Eddie's marriage, or did they meet after he filed for divorce? Cause I heard Scary moved to L.A. last year to work on her acting career, was that just some flap to cover up the then blossoming scandal???

Phil Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 05:04 PM EST

Scott Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:34 PM EST

Is this just a slow news day because I don't see what the big deal is? If they're happy together, then good for them. I seriously doubt it will have an impact on his "comeback". I mean, is anyone really going to say, "Hey did you see Eddie Murphy in Dreamgirls. He was brilliant. Too bad he's dating a Spice Girl?" Oh wait...

confidential Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:32 PM EST

1 Word;
5 Letters: B E A R D

Vicki Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:31 PM EST

Seriously, she was the only one who could halfway carry a tune. Don't knock the pop!

Howard Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:30 PM EST

Zigra, you didn't think he had musical cred when he did "Party All the Time"? What, do you have standards or something?

Personally, I think he had more musical credibility when he did "Boogie in your Butt" on his first album, but that's just me.

zigra Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:28 PM EST

When did Eddie Murphy have music credibility? That being said, his comic brilliance (ok erratic, but brilliant) has spanned 3 decades, and I too wish the happy couple well.

Ed Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 04:17 PM EST

Whaaah?!

I'm glad that Eddie Murphy is FINALLY on his way back. He paid his dues with all those childrens movies he acted in. Now's the time for him to do some serious acting.

Lynny Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 03:58 PM EST

Don't be a hater- Love is a good thing even if it is with a has been. Good Luck, Eddie.

professor74 Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 03:57 PM EST

Hey it didn't turn out too bad for Beckham, right?

CC Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 03:45 PM EST

...although, that the scariest Scary Spice picture I've ever seen. Maybe I'M stuck in 1997.

CC Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 03:44 PM EST

Hey, don't knock Scary! If you're going to go after a Spice, that's the one to go after.

Hot Guys Dating Fug Girls Is The Next Black Fri, Sep 15, 2006 at 03:40 PM EST

Not good for his career, but when you're in love... you're in love. Even though I hope they don't procreate, good luck to them.
