Who's on your all-time best dressed on TV list?

Aug 14, 2006, 05:11 PM | by Kate Sullivan

Categories: Television

155041__lisa_bonet_l Best-dressed lists have been all the rage this summer. EW’s cover star, new 007 Daniel Craig, is Esquire’s new No. 1, while Kanye West, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and CNN's Anderson Cooper all made Vanity Fair’s 2006 list. But our favorite best-dressed winner so far comes from the cheeky bloggers at We Got Ways, who realize that it takes a real man -- a man like Dr. Bob Newhart -- to rock a wide lapel or paisley pajamas.

In fact, the old boob tube has offered us some amazing fashion icons (see: Nick at Nite), and never have television’s characters been honored with their own best-dressed list. PopWatch would like to change that.

Our first nominee: Lisa Bonet on The Cosby Show (pictured), of course.

Now you. Who's on your list?

Niles Crane is by far and away the best dressed man in tv history...at least in the last 20 years. Just look at thosesuspenders and ties! Where did those clothes come from? Impeccable taste!

MY LIST

- Lisa Bonet - by far, one of the best. She brought 'avant garde' to the masses
- Cher - from Sonny & Cher. Her wardrobe was amazing and her bod the BEST accessory.
- Roxie Roker as Helen Willis on The Jeffersons. Chic, sophisticated and sleek. Also, amazing hair-dos.
- Ja'net Dubois as Willona Woods on Good Times. The original Ghetto Fab Diva. Fierce clothes and wigs.
- Diahann Carroll as Julia - Brilliant.
- RuPaul Charles- The RuPaul Show. Need I say more.
- Carol Burnett - Mackie is a genius. Some of the best wardrobing and costuming ever.
- Elizabeth Montgomery on Bewitched. Bewitching suburban elegance.
- Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman - the girl wore DVF wraps and was pushing Louis V. luggage.
- Miss Piggy - Pork chic.
- Lucille Ball on I Love Lucy - her comedic talents overshadowed her fierce wardrobe.

Andie Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 10:27 AM EST

Dylan McDermott and Steve Harris from The Practice. Very sharp.

BoxOfficeGoddess Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 10:17 AM EST

I totally agree with the cast of "Dynasty", especially Joan Collins (Alexis). Also, I love Phoebe from "Friend"'s haute hippie wardrobe. And she always had a cool hairstyle to match. Oh, and I always loved the suit/tie combos worn by my 2 favorite psychiatrists, Frasier and Niles Crane.

I'd also like to include Vanna White. Girlfriend has been rockin' those evening dresses for over 20 years. And from "A Different World" Magnolia Queen Whitley. Loved how she always wore those "ladies who lunch" outfits with the matching purses and bags.

Lynny Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 08:56 AM EST

Somebody said Rayanne Graff! TOTALLY! I did my hair like hers all the time and the leggings under the skirt and the flannel, oh the flannel. LOVE IT! Great nomination.

How can we ignore the guys from Miami Vice?

Definitely Scully from X-Files.

Sex in the City ladies.

My daughter wants Hannah Montana's clothes.

Cliff Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 10:09 PM EST

Lisa Bonet is such a good, unconventional choice. Especially later on when she was rocking the long braids.

My other favorites: Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex and the City; David Letterman; Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny on X-Files; Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore on the Dick Van Dyke Show; Jeremy Piven on Entourage; Sherman Hemsley on The Jeffersons; and Angie Dickinson on Police Woman.

bootsycolumbia Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 09:57 PM EST

In no particular order:

Carol Burnett when she opened the show; some of her Bob Mackie dresses would be stylish today.
Eric McCormack on Will and Grace; love his suits.
The ladies of Sex and the City and Friends. Style icons all.
Definitely Lisa Bonet on Cosby and Different World.
Mayim Bialik on Blossom. She had a distinctive look that I always wanted to emulate, but couldn't because I was broke.
Nancy McKeon on The Facts of Life. I liked how she wore her uniform; it didn't wear her. Also props to Will Smith on Fresh Prince of Bel Air for wearing his school jacket inside out. Always loved that little touch of distinctiveness.
Maureen McCormack on The Brady Bunch once wore a long black dress to a school dance. I STILL want that dress.

Greg W Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 09:25 PM EST

Corin Nemec on "Parker Lewis Can't Lose"

sydney Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 08:37 PM EST

Fagqua Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 07:58 PM EST

The cast of Dynasty - shoulder pads and all!

Lorenzo Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 07:44 PM EST

I nominate Flava Flav. C'mon, who doesn't love the clock necklace and the, um, "fashion" he wears on Flavor of Love 1&2 that comes on VH1 every Sunday night and repeating whenever the VH1 guys' decides to take a piss.

david74 Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 07:40 PM EST

My style idols... Rhoda Morgenstern and Ralph Furley.

Craig Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 07:07 PM EST

Must agree with the Gilmour Girls, and will never forget Carla Gugino from Threshold.

Others that havent been named yet, but must be , are Keri Russell from Felicity... oh the hair ... and the thinking mans outfit.... Tina Fey

Roxanne Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 06:56 PM EST

In chronological order:
Marcia Brady
Laurie Partridge
Mary Richards
Bailey Quarters (WKRP in Cincinnati - she looked so real)
(skip over the 80s - TV fashion was bad, except for the stuff on MTV)
Murphy Brown
Rachel/Monica/Phoebe - Friends
Buffy Summers
Piper Halliwell

Nicole C Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 06:48 PM EST

Buffy the Vampire Slayer...well maybe not from the first couple of seasons. Lindsay from "Freaks and Geeks", she totally rocked the late 70's/early 80's style. Punky certainly had Punky Power!!! Summer from "OC."

Carol Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 06:16 PM EST

Rayanne Graff from "My So Called Life." She rocked the 90's style AND it was she who convinced Angela (Claire Danes) to dye her hair that signature color.

Carrie Bradshaw

Sydney Bristow when undercover

Amanda Woodward on "Melrose Place." Those "business suits" were legendary.

The Golden Girls

weep Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 05:58 PM EST

Lynny Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:56 PM EST

For the time, Kelly on 90210

Jill Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:54 PM EST

Ginger on Gilligan's Island,

Charlotte on Sex and the City,

Kelly on 90210

Matty Matt Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:50 PM EST

Alison Kelly from Project Runway 3.

Any of The Golden Girls.

Dwayne Wayne from A Different World. He rocked the signature sun/spectacles which flipped up—plus, I'd tune in just to check out what sneakers he was skating. Week in week out, DW made even Sinbad's style look bad...which, actually, was quite easy.

Cassie Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:42 PM EST

Hands down, it's Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell. I didn't realize until a few years ago that she was the best part about the show. She dressed fabulously everyday and wasn't afraid to rock those door knocker earrings and her endless collection of matching hats.

liz Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:36 PM EST

Soleil Moon Frye as Punky Brewster. Loved everything about her. From the converse sneekers to her hair accessories they were just so cool back in the day.

CS Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:31 PM EST

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Well, don't count the first two seasons.

And Conan O'Brien always looks snazzy in his suits and flippy red hair.

ep sato Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:20 PM EST

How about Don Cheadle? He's more movies than tv, but have you ever seen that cat look bad? Even in "Out of Site", they had the cat in a jumpsuit and he could still carry off the look!

On tv I always liked the suits worn by now deceased game show host Pete Tomarken. I liked his gear so much that I bought one of the suits he wore on "Press your luck". Of course, it looked a LOT better on him than it does on me...

Ed Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:19 PM EST

Valerie Cherish for her prequal to Mrs. Roper outfits. I get the feeling that Mrs. Roper dressed like V.C way before she married Stanly.

Katie Jane Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 04:19 PM EST

Sydney Bristow, Alias. Come on people, the outfits were literally kick-ass.

Helena Peabody, The L Word.

Lt. Dangle, Reno 911. The shorts. The SHORTS.
