'SNL': Who will get canned?

Aug 22, 2006, 06:14 PM | by Kate Sullivan

Categories: Saturday Night Live

155554__amy_l Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch aren’t the only ones leaving SNL, but they may be the only ones leaving voluntarily. Budget constraints mean that not only will Lorne Michaels' long-running show not be adding any new cast members this season, it’ll be losing four. Who will stay and who will go hasn't been made public, but we’re guessing that Andy Samberg, of ''Lazy Sunday'' fame, and Weekend Update co-anchor Amy Poehler (pictured), are safe.

Michaels says the announcement will come around Labor Day. In the meantime, who do you think will get canned? Who do you want -- or not want -- to see canned?

[This just in: According to the folks at Channel Island, Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz and Kenan Thompson are all getting auf'd for SNL's new season, while the future remains uncertain for Darrell Hammond. It also looks like Jason Sudeikis is bumping Amy Poehler from the Weekend Update desk. Thanks to TV Tattle for the link!]

KENAN SUCKS! Plain and simple!

Humfrey Fish Sat, Apr 21, 2007 at 07:32 AM EST

I can't believe that most people think Horatio Sanz should go, he is one of the best and very similar to John Belushi. I can't believe that Darryl Hammond has any fans, he's the one who laughs at his own sketchs all of the time and thinks he is way better than he is. Watch his interview with Conan O'Brien from a few years ago, what abig headed, no talent nobody.

ChiliGurl Sat, Sep 9, 2006 at 07:15 PM EST

Let them can: Parnell, Forte, Armisen and Hader. I have never thought any of them were remotely funny. I know that Sanz will probably go, and I'll be sad to see that happen. They really do need to keep Maya Rudolph, however. Her Donatella Versace is hysterical! I like Pohler's one legged, rude farting girl. I have watched SNL since the very beginning (1975), and I've seen some of the unfunniest people prove to be most popular. Case in point: Will Farrell. I see nothing funny in him whatsoever. It is sad that SNL will be sinking to a new low this coming season, but as a fellow writer stated earlier, the show will bounce back. I hope so, because I have found nothing funny on it since Fallon left.

Chiliagon Thu, Aug 31, 2006 at 10:13 PM EST

on second thought...Will Forte probably remains b/c he does prez bush impressions

Chiliagon Thu, Aug 31, 2006 at 10:10 PM EST

I hope Darrell Hammond remains he is the best impressionist and can not be replaced. The newcomers have good chemistry and Poehler and Rudolph are funny in their own right. I wonder if they'll give Poehler a new cohost? I think Sanz, Forte or Armison, Thompson and Parnell are OUT. Sanz and Parnell time has come and gone, and Thompson, Forte/Armison just never caught on; do not fit in w/ current cast.

Peter Sun, Aug 27, 2006 at 11:19 PM EST

Im gonna say Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz, Kenan Thompson, and Will Forte. I would LOVE for them to can Seth Meyers except he's goin to be the only head writer now that Tina Fey is leaving. The Fact is, the new people are absoluteley hilarious.

Stephanie Travitsky Thu, Aug 24, 2006 at 10:50 AM EST

Ron B. that was very cute, and Daryl is right. On one of the SNL prime time specials a skit was shown where Sanz could not stop laughing to the point where he made Jummy Fallon laugh along with him. It is funny once in a blue moon, but it is not professional when you do it all the time.

Shaft Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:00 PM EST

I think it will be..

Finesse...hes a funny funny stand-up guy..but he doesnt do good impressions.

hmm....after Horatio..WHICH EVERYONE KNOWS NEEDS TO GO.

im not really sure...maybe Hader.

maybe Forte.

Not any of the women..cause they're only gonna have like 3 left anyway...Not Keenan..cause i said so...NOt Hammond cause he's not gonna leave the show like this..he's almost SNL royalty at this point..hmm..not sure.

As long as its neither Keenan Thompson or Maya Rudolph im cool.

Daryl Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 07:59 PM EST

Horatio Sanz needs to go. He is NEVER funny but always seems to die laughing at his own skits. He is one of the most annoying people ever to take the stage at SNL. Just because you fat doesn't mean your jolly or funny.

SNL needs to find the humor again. Mad TV is better, though lately it hasn't been good either....but I'm begging, please send Horatio home...FOREVER

Ron B Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 07:27 PM EST

I don't watch it very much but I think Chevy Chase will be the next to go,do you agree? Rotten Ron

Stephanie Travitsky Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 06:29 PM EST

JB, I think that the late but talented SNL actress Damitra Vance left SNL during the late 80's for that reason, because she felt as if she was being under used and sterotyped. SNL fixed that problem with Ellen Clegghorns amazing Queen Shaniqua. This is who Maya Rudolph reminds me of, Ellen Clegghorn. I think that there needs to be more black actors added in. Two or three is still not an equal balance. Hire Wayne Brady, he is funny with an ensamble.

Eve Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 05:53 PM EST

EW: When are you going to give "Mad TV" it's due? This show is consistently funny. How bout a nice cover story? SNL is just pathetic anymore

Stephanie Travitsky Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:58 PM EST

I agree with MJ, and this is probably one of the reasons why Tina Fey is leaving SNL, plus she did what she could with the show and it is time to grow.

SNL back in the day was edgy and outrageous and for a few recent episodes in a couple of past seasons (mostly during the Weekend Updates) it managed to still cling to the outrageousness. It also got a little pervrse in a funny way. Ex: A male voice over when Amy Pohler was testing out the "Bop It". "Pull it, pull it, yeah". Or "Savannah Samson's new perfume smells like fish and meat." There should be more tounge and cheek skits and news skits. Otherwise it will be like it was back during the 1980-1981 season where the actors were funny but the scripts smelled like three year old tripe.

And other comedy troupe actors need to be concidered too, but they can also hire some unknowns as well. People who are not in these famous troupes but are funny. Hold an open casting call or something.

PS: Tracy Morgan's Star Jones is a lot funnier than Keenan "All That" Thompson.

¡JB! Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:56 PM EST

I agree with the others who say the black cast members should be set free (or beg to be), as they're all very talented but horribly underutilized. And I agree with those who say that while Poehler is good, her "Weekend Update" delivery is rotten. The only one I'd vote off is Will Forte, as his President Bush impression is horrible.

chocolatespirit Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:50 PM EST

That's a tough one--cause I always think the black dudes will go--but they NEED black dudes for their stereotyped humor--maybe Finesse Mitchell-but they need him to play Al Reynolds!

MJ Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:13 PM EST

I think these are the main problems with SNL:

1. It's too starcentric. Back in the day, SNL prided itself on having counterculture hosts (Carlin, Pryor) and under-the-radar musical guests. Now, no one has a chance of hosting/playing unless they have a blockbuster movie, top 10 TV show or #1 hit song (James Blunt has about as much edge as a bowling ball). SNL used to stick to The Man. It has become The Man.

2. The casting is too incestuous. There have got to be more places to scout for talent than UCB, Second City and Groundlings. SNL needs to scour the Internet for new and interesting talent. And the cast could stand to be a little more 'colorful'. I sometimes have to watch SNL with my sunglasses on to protect my eyes from the glare.

3. Have the WU anchor(s) be in character (Aykroyd & Curtin, Stephen Colbert) or better yet, consider scrapping it altogether. It's no longer relevant. By the time Saturday night rolls around, it's all old news that's already made the rounds on The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Leno, Letterman, etc. They all manage to mine comedy gold from the news night after night, so having the whole week to work with, there is no excuse for the jokes on WU to fall as flat as they do.

Jamie Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:07 PM EST

If four people have to go, then it will most logically be: Hammond (he's a cross between Tim Meadows and Phil Hartman--versatile but has too much senority,) Rudolph (lovely and versatile, but she has an infant and a home base in L.A.,) Forte (he's genuinely useless,) and Sanz (senority again--almost everyone who joined in his era are gone.) While I seriously dislike Samberg it is he, Sudekis, Hader, and Thompson, with Parnell and Meyers as elder statesman, who might pave the way for another "bad boy" era (remember Spade, Sandler, Rock, and Schneider?) You can't fault Sanz for the "Carol" skits, they are funny to a lot of people (I happen to know women like that--usually a teacher or a nurse who is a disgusting hog that gets all the guys.) Thompson isn't a bad performer--he's not a master impressionist or a chameleon, but he's put forth some enjoyable work.

claudenorth Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 02:50 PM EST

Please let it be Horatio Sanz, who is incapabale of delivering a single line without laughing. For that, alone, he should have been canned after his first season.

Stephanie Travitsky Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 02:12 PM EST

Michaels wanted Sanz because he wanted another Farley who did not do drugs. Unfortuneately Horatio Sanz is only funny when someone writes a funny script for him. Ie- the guys who sing the same song with different lyrics whith the Casio keyboard.

I predict Sanz and Keenan Thompson. If Rudolph is fired Michaels might as well end the show.

Tyler D Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 01:39 PM EST

The perfect excuse to can Horatio Sanz butt. He's just awful on every level possible. I think the last sketch that he did that made me laugh was the Jingleheimer Junction Kid's Show.

Bill Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:58 PM EST

If the cast could be bothered to learn their lines, they could fire the cue card guys.

I'm stunned that Horatio Sans is still on the show at all. When they fire him, could they go back and fire Tracy Morgan again?

T&A Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:32 PM EST

Please let me see Chris Parnell's non shaved Wee-wee, and Maya Rudolph's pretty/nasty/pretty/pretty bouncy parts.... in a parody of the Paris Hilton "doing it" tape. The whole thing should be one notch too dirty for the NBC censors....yet still OK for the YouTube.com censors. OK, I know this is stupid.

USPS Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:19 PM EST

Horatio Sans, Finesse Mitchel, Chris Parnel, and Seth Meyers (as he is easily replaced by Jason Sudekis).

Final.

Stacey Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:05 PM EST

I think Horatio should go. "Carol" is just stupid. I don't think they will cut any of the three women which is great as all three are strong. It is really nice to have some women doing some very good impressions. I really like the new gal Kristen as well as the two new guys, particularly the one who does impressions (Bill Hader?) The other (Jason?)is not as memorable but I do like the recurring "two a**holes...) sketch. But I would rather see him go than Chris Parnell who is a scene stealer. He never does all that much but when he comes in he always generates a big laugh (ie. the Jambajuice sketch). He is naturally a great supporting character as is Fred Armisen. I 'd like to see Will Forte stay--I really like his Bush. So deliciously whiny! But hate the Falconer. My choices for 4 to go would be Finesse, Horatio, Jason (by default), and Darryl Hammond.

liz Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:44 AM EST

I'm sure in 58 comments someone may have already said this but I say...CAN the whole dern thing already. It hasn't been funny in a very long time!

FilmNerdJamie Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:37 AM EST

SNL lost its relevance and sense of humor years ago. I didn't know people still watch it. If you cast me, you might as well take it out of its misery and (finally) cancel SNL.

Josh Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:36 AM EST

Hey popwatch, check out this SNL exit scoopage: http://www.calendarlive.com/tv/cl-et-channel23aug23,0,7973211.story?coll=cl-tv-features

Talaneus Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:31 AM EST

Keep Maya and Fred, their Nuni sketch is one of the funniest things on TV. Chris Parnell is one of the most talented people on TV, he is so versatile, and can fit into any character. Kristen has to stay, her Target lady comes in at a close second to Nuni, and it would be a shame to see her go. And there is no doubt that Amy and Andy have to stay, the show would probably be lost without them.

But really, Bill Hader and Horatio should be canned. Horatio has been overused and even though his laught bouts were once funny, they now seem too often and they ruin the show. Hader, on the other hand, is good at impressions, but he takes himself way to seriously and comes off very unfunny in the sketches.

josh Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:22 AM EST

KENAN SUCKS!!!! that new woman Kristin is not funny enough to hold a whole sketch. Maya's awesome, and so is Darrell Hammond. Kenan is a horrible actor and always annoys me, and never does anything funny. Tracy Morgan ruled the spot that Kenan poorly filled.

Sara Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:11 AM EST

I also hate Horatio. He's worse than Jimmy Fallon for always laughing in his scenes, and that's a pretty significant statement. Carol is incredibly annoying.

I don't think Will Forte is especially strong, and the only sketch from "The Falconer" that made me giggle was when they had like 100 Falconers from going back in time repeatedly.

Darrell Hammond has been on the show for a long, long time. He may not be the shiniest crayon in the box, but he does his characters well. And honestly, would the man really have a career if he left SNL?

Fred Armisen tries really hard. He and Darrell are the only ones who aren't necessarily pigeon-holed into one character type, and Fred should get a reprieve for that versatility alone.

Kenan vs. Finesse... I have a soft spot for Kenan from All That, like someone else said. I hope he doesn't end up doing KFC commercials like Kel currently is.

David D Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 10:37 AM EST

I've never been a fan of Sanz and it seems as if Thompson has the smallest range of any performer in the history of the show. And if it gets down to ten actors, fine. The original cast had only seven, and the great Lovitz/Hartman/Hooks/Carvey cast had only eight.

I adore Maya, and I think Kristin Wiig's got a lot of potential. What I also think they should do is have Hammond do "Update" IN CHARACTER as Dan Rather, who's out of job.

T. Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 10:33 AM EST

My guess is that with the terminally unfunny Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch leaving, Lorne must be worried about the scales of the show now tipping in the direction of being funnier. To compensate, I guess he is going to cut the 4 funniest people to ensure it'll maintain it's high standard of suckage. I think Sanberg was already on thin ice for slipping an actually funny sketch by the producers last season.

Jazzy Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 10:19 AM EST

HORATIO HAS GOTS TA GO! He's terrible! I can't believe he's lasted as long as he has. It looks like he's always reading off of the teleprompter/cue cards-whatever-and that Carol sketch is sooo annoying! I could care less if Maya Rudolph goes-she does the WORST Oprah impression I have ever seen. I remember her being on Oprah and the two of them talking about how funny it was. You want to see funny? Debra Wilson who was on MadTv-her impression of Oprah is spectacular. God, I miss her. "Good for you-do it today!"

Dave M Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 10:18 AM EST

Horatio Sanz will go down as the worst cast member in the history of SNL. Tina Fey will be the most overrated.

EP Sato Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:45 AM EST

If Colin Quinn hasn't gotten fired yet, he should be. Has that man said a single funny thing in the last 20 years? NOPE. He's still milking that stupid joke about the Irish cop who got killed by a poptart. Haha

no-idol Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:37 AM EST

I think Finesse is very funny, they just never let him go on very much...and Keenan's had some funny bits too. The only laughs from this whole season I've had had been wwhen they were talking. I like Maya Rudolph and I thought the new girl this year had potential. I think Darrell Hammond is funny, but they all start to look like his Bill Clinton to me....he's getting a bit worn. I think it'd be best to let Hammond go, let Horatio go...he's lost without Jimmy, Will Forte is a one bit act - let him go too, I think Fred Arminson has potential, so should maybe stay...the rest kinda all fall in equally for #4.

"the minorities" Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:36 AM EST

We would like to stay on SNL if only for the fact that we exist in the world and SNL makes fun of the world, so maybe, we should be on the show. How about they (meaning Lorne) give us something good to do, like they give the white cast members, or have us feature in more sketches.

Or maybe they should add more of us, like an Asian cast-member or (god forbid) an (openly) gay cast member to reflect the world around Rockefeller Center.

Lord Grimace Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:18 AM EST

I personally would hate to see Chris Parnell or Darrell Hammond get the ax. I think both are under utilized, and both are great about keeping straight faces during their parts unlike Horatio Sanz. Andy Samberg should stay too, the rest can stay or get cut with no consequence to me.

Adam Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 09:18 AM EST

Here's hoping they lose Horatio Sanz. I just think he's awful on the show. This Carol character they've cooked up for him is just pain fully unfunny and I don't care if that is even the "point" of the sketch

Alex Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 08:50 AM EST

I would consider watching the show again if they got rid of:

a) the guest hosts

and

b) the musical guests

Both of these have the power to grind the show to a dead halt. I think it would be ok to occasionally have a cutting-edge musical group come on, or to occasionally incorporate a celeb into a sketch, but it's too painful to watch lip synch acts like Ashlee Simpson every week. Plus, I for the life of me can't understand why they would ask so many *unfunny* people to host the show. Sports stars and politicians aren't really suited for sketch comedy, and its horrible to watch.

Tim Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 08:21 AM EST

I like Amy but she's overused. There's episodes where she's in just about every skit.

I do like last season's new additions, particularly the girl.

Shannon Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 08:17 AM EST

keep mya! I stopped watching snl a few years ago, but fred (I always wondered why he was on there) and finesse need to go .. they just look "off". as for keenan I know this was his dream I am glad he made it this far..but not to get the ax. oh if it turned into an all white cast I can tell you now there will be a BIG problem... people still sue you know...

Ron Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 07:52 AM EST

All the minorities should go. They're very underutilzed with crappy scripts. They haven't had a decent black comdeian break out of SNL since Chris Rock an Horatio is just awful. I stopped watching both Mad TV and SNL. The talent's lame and skits are lame as well.Period.

tex mex Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 07:44 AM EST

Fred Armisen is my favorite and I hope he stays.

Terry C. Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 07:17 AM EST

SNL has been so unfunny for so long that in order to improve ratings, I'm surprised that Lorne Michaels is not firing his staff, reality-tv elimination style: 'Horatio, last week, you attempted a two-minute skit on scabies. The judges said "you couldn't keep a straight face even if your life depended on it", that you were "a walking-talking sight-gag withouth a punchline." America voted... and they agreed with the judges. Horatio, you're going home tonight.' And then we'd all watch the highlights (all three of them) of his SNL stint, to the Daniel Powter whining about life in general.

Janean Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 06:51 AM EST

Personally, Amy's little girl character cracks me up. But maybe that's just me, apparently.

Do you really think they'll get rid of 4 people, or is this some sort of attempt to get people angry (and, therefore, interested)?

That said, the only two people I can think of to get rid of are Horatio (because he bothers me) and Finesse (because he's funny, but they never give him anything to do).

Delon Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 06:45 AM EST

Maya Rudolph is the best thing that SNL has right now!!! She is very talented and funny. If she's gone there's no reason for me to watch SNL anymore!!!

I think last years' new cast additions are all awful including Andy Samberg. I don't get him and i don't like him.

It would be very unfair to fire Darrell Hammond and Chris Parnell who've been on this show for so long and consistently were good.

Finesse and Horatio are leaving along with last years' additions.

cranky Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 06:42 AM EST

Hear, hear! Jennifer, you read my mind. :)

Jennifer Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 05:37 AM EST

Count me among the people who can't stand Amy Poehler. I don't think she'll leave, but I just don't find her funny at all. I always feel like she's trying too hard to get laughs and I find her delivery on Weekend Update to be horrendous.

That being said, SNL has bigger problems than the cast. Saturday Night Live has pretty much become ridiculous. It used to be a show that was not only funny, but was aware of pop culture, able to cleverly poke fun at the political climate, and create memorable characters with its mix of sketches. Now the only thing it seems to have are the character sketches-- most of which are subpar. When it comes to the media and political based jokes, SNL is irrelevant. Shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are constantly raising the comedic bar and it doesn't even look like SNL is trying to meet them. As a result, even Weekend Update often falls flat.

For Pop Culture, I don't know what they're thinking. There is so much material to poke fun at coming from TV, cinema, Hollywood, and general celebrity happenings. But instead I tune in and see things like "The Prince Show". Again, when it comes to Pop Culture, SNL becomes irrelevant, though there really is no reason why it has to be. They have had some extremely funny sketches about current and relevant Pop Culture but they seem few and far between.

That leaves the character sketches, which are HORRIBLE. Are Debbie Downer, Carol, and the Falconer really the best this cast can up with? Each would have been funny once (okay, well...maybe not The Falconer), but they were never funny enough to warrant a recurring sketch. I realise Rachel Dratch is gone, so no more Debbie Downer. But there are other repeat offenders such as that sketch with Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler as the couple that always fight and like many have mentioned already, Amy Poehler's littl girl character. Maybe some of these things are funny compared to the other sketches on this show, but compared to other non-SNL things...not so much.

Sorry this was so long, but SNL has a lot bigger problems than it's cast. This show really needs a complete overhaul.

Ryan Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 05:09 AM EST

I want Horatio to stay only for the inevitable "The View" sketch so he can play Rosie O'Donnell again.

Maggie Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 03:11 AM EST

I LOVE Will Forte. 'The Falconer' is what keeps me watching- he was awesome as the voice of Abe Lincoln on "Clone High" too.

Gordon Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 02:45 AM EST

Horatio is awful! The constant "cracking up" on camera is an act. "Carol" is stupid. I agree that Hammond & Parnell need more air time. Forte sucks! How can anyone think "The Falconer" is funny? Put Lorne out to pasture, he's had 30 years at SNL, time for a change of command. Don't even get me started on "Gays in Space"!

Jakeem Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 01:43 AM EST

Wait a minute! You mean that Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch are leaving and they STILL have to cut four regulars?
What a joke! What they need to get rid of are awful guest hosts, such as Dane Cook. What a disaster his episode was!

Fatima Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:53 AM EST

parnell must leave

Alexei Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 12:45 AM EST

Horatio must go. Amy, Maya, and Seth must stay. Okay, I'm good.

Cliff Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 11:40 PM EST

I've seen every season of SNL, good and bad. If Amy Pohler goes, so do I.

Marci Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 11:30 PM EST

I agree. I really try to like Amy Poehler, but she does annoy me. When she first started, I really really hated her, but now I just kind of hate her. I hate that little girl character. I was watching SNL the best of mike meyers, and I realized that her annoying little girl character is just a rip off of Mike Meyer's harness kid sketch with Nicole Kidman.

sam Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 10:08 PM EST

I realize that I am very much in the minority, buy I think Amy Poehler is one of the most irritating women on TV. Weekend Update was ruined for me when she started doing it. I would love to see somebody else give it a try. And her little girl character is so disgusting that I always turn it off. Sorry.

Laura Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 10:05 PM EST

NY Post said that Seth Meyers will be the new head writer so unless they are totally wrong he will stay put for now. That leaves: Chris, Finesse, Darrell and probably Horatio as my picks to go. Horatio is really not very funny except for "Carol". Chris and Darrell have been there long enough though I will miss Darrell's Dick Chaney. Finesse is just taking up space. SNL is one of those shows that goes into hibernation for a few years, then the show gets a sudden influx on new talent like during the 80's when Carvey, Meyers, Farley joined the cast. Then it happened again in the 90's with Farrell, Gasteyer, Fallon. Then the show awkens from its slumber and everybody loves it again. SNL has bounced back before and will do it again. Just wait.

Ajay Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 09:39 PM EST

Iam going to miss Tina and Rachel... I can't believe they are cutting 4 more! And with the lack of women on that show, I don't see Amy, Maya, and Kristen going anywhere...thats all thats left right? I don't want anyone to go.. I'd rather see some new blood in there!

california Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 09:37 PM EST

i hope keenan doesn't get fired. I remember him from All That way back in the day on Nickelodeon when I was a kid. I was so happy when I found out he was on SNL, it must have been his dream come true. I wish him well for always.

Rosie Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 09:27 PM EST

I think everyone's funny but Andy Samberg and Keenan. They are sooooo bad. My faves are Poehler and DEFINITELY Will and Seth Myers. I totally agree with the person who loves The Falconer. That's my fave sketch of all time.

cranky Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 09:23 PM EST

Sorry, folks, SNL is no longer relevant. It's going the way of the traditional sitcom. I think Lorne should just hang it up and retire. He looks pooped.

jon Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 08:55 PM EST

Maya Rudolph better not be going anywhere. She's the best actor on the show (true, not the funniest but sometimes you need someone with acting chops). I remember Kenan's story about his dream of SNL when he started so he'll def stay. I hope Chris Parnell and Fred Armisen stay (luv Fred's Camilla, so funny!)

But Horatio Sanz needs to GO! Even when not laughing at himself, he's not that funny. He can easily be replaced by Gabriel Iglesias of Last Comic Standing or a large Barney plush doll, both are funnier. (oh snap)

Felicity Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 08:53 PM EST

I can't believe Fred and Will are popular choices to go. I'd rather lose anyone but them. "The Falconer" is my husband's all-time favorite sketch!

ADAM Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 08:33 PM EST

LOVE Kenan. LOVE Fred Armisen. LOVE Kristin Wiig. LOVE Andy Samberg.

And of course, LOVE LOVE LOVE Amy Poehler.

Everyone else -- ih. Take it or leave it.

matt Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 07:55 PM EST

I really do not want ANYONE to go. But I think Lorne Michael's is gonna cut Finesse, jason sudeikis, bill hader, and keenan thompson or kristin wiig. I hate that he has to fire people, because this show is gonna suck a little more without Tina and Rachel. SOSNL-Save Our Saturday Night Live!!! Please don't fire anyone.

Rebecca Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 07:41 PM EST

Kenan is actually staying - he said so on Jimmy Kimmel. And from what I heard, Darrell is sticking around as well

I'm pretty sure Horatio is gone so that only leaves three and I believe it will be Maya, Chris and Finesse. As much as I love Chris, Lorne has let him go before and with the budget cuts, I don't think Chris has a chance of staying. I don't care about Maya or Finesse either way so I wouldn't mind if they left. I'm just glad Horatio is gone because I hate Carol. Pure drivel

Thanks Heather for the info!

Now, all I have to do is to make myself deaf during that episode to prevent vomiting and my head exploding. Oh and the guy I was talking about was Jason Sudekis.

MadTV Rules!!!!!

In my opinion, Horatio Sanz, Seth Myers, Fred Armisen and Finesse Mitchell should all go. Then they should hire Kristin Key and Ty Barnett from this season of LCS.

HEY! Stop picking on Horatio! He's actually not that bad and a personal favorite of mine. The fact that no one really stands out isn;t that good a sign though...

Chris Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 06:28 PM EST

Chris, Amy, Maya and Andy must, must, MUST stay. Fred, Will, Kristin and Finesse all need to go. The rest I don't much care either way. Except Horatio, who must stay so he can do CAROL!

Heather Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 06:17 PM EST

Hey Lorenzo, just so you know...the Dane train is pulling in again for the season opener so you may want to skip that episode then!!

Marci Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 06:01 PM EST

Here's my pick for who should go: Jason Sudekis (he's not at all memorable or funny), Will Forte (his George Bush impression is just painful to watch, I actually can't watch it, I mute it when it comes on), Horatio Sans (his schtick is getting old) and Fred Armisen (I just don't like him). I really hope that Seth Meyers and Chris Parnell stay, they're both really strong performers, they just never really get their moment to shine.

I agree, this past year was pretty awful. That's why I'm glad to see Tina Fey go (I even like Tina Fey--I just think it's time for her to move on). The writing just got stale and lazy. SNL needs a new head writer very badly.

I think the show really started to go downhill when they lost their 2 strongest players in the same year--Ana Gasteyer and Will Ferrell.

Horatio NEEDS to go...he's awful

mike Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:53 PM EST

Horatio should have left with Jimmy Fallon. Chris Parnell, either Keenan or Finnesse and hopefully Fred Armison will be the four.

Kurt Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:39 PM EST

Keep Maya Rudolph!

Tina (not Fey) Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:38 PM EST

Please...Let Horatio get the ax! Keep Chris Parnell & Darryl Hammond (and give them more AIR TIME)! Will Forte is useless ("The Falconer" & his George Bush impression are down right embarrassing). The person who deserves the pink slip the most is Lorne Michaels. He approves EVERYTHING that makes it to air. Lets face it, whatever golden touch he had (at one time), has been gone for the last few years. Time for a new Captain to steer the ship. Michaels is complacent, bring in an executive producer who knows what consistent humor & talent is.

Amy Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:36 PM EST

I hope Horatio goes! I have a feeling Darrell will go because he's been there the longest...and prob has had many raises. Seth won't go...they need the cute guy...Finesse will be going. I hope Chris stays! I love Chris Parnell...Keanan will stay, they can't an all white cast and Kristin Whiig (sp?) is poised to become the next Amy Pohler...she was promoted to full time mid season as was Amy...plus they need women!

Lorenzo Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:33 PM EST

My guess is that Keenan, Finese, Chris, and the other dud that is not Andy Samberg (you know who I'm talking about). To tell truth, I don't feel bad about this. SNL sucked last year. MadTV actually did better in quality (not in the ratings though) and MadTV was funnier, to me at least.

Hopefully, these pink slips will help the show get better because, Lord knows, we don't need someone like Dane Cook hosting again. Ever.

JKS Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 05:28 PM EST

Darrell Hammond, Horatio, Chris Parnell are definitely going. I wouldn't mind Seth Meyers going, too-he's never been that great a performer. Maybe Finesse-he's so awkward on camera.
