'Evil Dead: The Musical'? Groovy.

I have, at several points in my life, claimed that I would saw off my possessed right hand for an Evil Dead musical. Well, it looks like I'm going to have to get moving on that, for, lo and behold, it lives. Sam Raimi's horror comedy spectacular is taking that final leap into absurdity and growing a score.  (Song titles include "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons" and "What the F--- Was That?")

Yes, there will be a "splash zone." (And thank you to The Lieutenant of Inishmore for reviving the Grand Guignol on Broadway.) So yes, there will be blood. And boomsticks. And maybe a sweet, screaming chainsong or two. Sure, it could all fall to dismembered pieces under the weight of its own camp, but isn't that a chance you're willing to take? Especially after reading a press release this gutsy:

"Whether or not you’re a fan of the Evil Dead movies... you will love this show. Whether or not you’re a fan of musicals... you will love this show. Whether or not you’re a fan of horror... you will love this show. No matter who you are... you will love this show!"

There's only one word for that, and, fellow Dead-ites, I think you know what it is.

I saw a musical version of "Army of Darkness" called "Boomstick" performed in Chicago a few years ago any relation?

Yey Chris Bond! The co-writer and director was a high school friend of mine and when he said he was writing a musical, we kinda dismissed it. Then we caught the Toronto shows and to our HUGE suprise (not that Chris is a dumb guy, but a good musical doesn't come around as often as it should), it was AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS and the songs were catchy and enjoyable and an insanely fun, frightening, and freakish show! I'm so glad it will get an even bigger run in NY!

I god they need to take that show on the road! If they played that gig in DC my crew would go like to every showing, in full regalia and would sit in the front row!

Any word if Bruce Campbell's going to be in this one? Because THAT would be Groovy...

I've seen this show in Toronto and Montreal at 'Just for Laughs', it's so very funny. 'What the F@#k Was That?' is one of the funniest show tunes ever.

I saw it in TO a few years ago, and it was a hoot. I treasure my What The F@#K Was That? t-shirt.

Groovy.
