'Adventures in Babysitting': Ready for the remake?

Jul 13, 2006, 09:09 AM | by Scott Brown

Categories: Film

14502__babysitting_lElisabeth Shue warned us years ago: ''Don't f--- with the babysitter.'' Disney isn't heeding her admonition. They're remaking Adventures in Babysitting (pictured, right), the apparently beloved comedy-adventure starring Shue as a put-upon high-school senior whose boring night babysitting turns into a Dante-esque odyssey through blighted '80s cityscapes. So who's the new Shue? Raven-Symone (left), of That's So Raven, a show I've never watched but always assumed was about Poe's wacky Goth adolescence. (It's not, apparently.)

This office, it appears, is a stronghold of Babysitting purists who don't want a repeat of Love Don't Cost a Thing, the (admittedly execrable) Nick Cannon remake of Can't Buy Me Love. Types one staffer: ''oh, this is worse than a remake of the Seven Samurai.  this is sick.'' Another simply says, ''This must be stopped!''

There are contrarians, of course. ''I love how you're outraged over the disrespect being shown to a movie that was directed by... Chris Columbus. My feeling is that we're really grieving is the faded glory of our shared teenage crush on Elisabeth Shue. That lucky Macchio!'' This respondent continues with an interesting hypothetical that goes to the heart of the ''race-reversed remake'' question: ''If Shue and her charges flee into a black club and she's gotta sing the blues to get out... where will Raven et al find themselves?  Honkytonk?'' My vote would be for a Blue Collar Comedy Tour concert. Or a Klan rally. Whatever's funnier.

This Babysitting memory takes the cake, though: ''I saw 'Adventures...' during Free Video Friday Night at the Sloane House International YMCA in Manhattan with members of a Korean street gang who afterward went into the adjoining ballroom where a wedding reception was taking place and shot out the windows with pistols hidden in their socks, then put a bullet in the groom's foot. True story.''

From there, the conversation degenerated into an anti-Giuliani lament about the lack of ''good Korean street gangs.''

Of course, everyone here is certifiable. You seem like sane folk, though. (Comparatively speaking.) Tell me: Is Adventures in Babysitting too sacred to remake?

I think I might commit seppuku if this remake does well. Seriously. It's not Raven at all, it's the principle! BESIDES! Can you imagine how abboying Disney will make the kids in this version? They'll be spoiled, obnoxious brats! That's what Disney does! Markets spoiled brats.

Rachel Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 03:27 PM EST

Can I have your number kieth cooger pleas?????????

Keith Coogan you are so CUTE!!!!!!!!!!! Raven I think they should do a remake it would be interesting!!!!

Alice Keymer Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 04:56 PM EST

Oh no, not another stupid remake! Get some originality. I've a better idea - how about just re-release the original!!!

Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 03:20 AM EST

a remake, especialy with raven, would suck beyond belief. you cant remake awsomeness. thats would be like michael bay remaking peter jackson's version of LOTR, that would suck. LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!!

melody parker Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

No Way!! The orignal was the best in the world. I watched it with my kids at least 30 times. I loved that movie. A remake will be a big waste of time.

Trish Fri, Jun 13, 2008 at 01:26 AM EST

boo! You can't remake this classic. I absolutely, positively LOVE LOVE ADVENTURES! I think alot of people are right, it's not just the movie but the time it represents and all our childhoods since that is when alot of us discovered it. I literally can quote this movie line for line and watch it over and over again. RAven simone no way! Maybe the chick from heroes or something like that, but even then I wouldn't want to see it redone.

jen Mon, May 26, 2008 at 09:05 PM EST

oh gosh, not another remake. i know it's not casablanca or the godfather, but it's a classic in its own way in the 80s. why do they have to ruin that? before you know it, we'll be seeing remakes of EVERY SINGLE MOVIE from the past. OY!

Sequels these days are bad enough, but remakes these days MURDER cult classics with no ability to resurrect what they set out to. Too much of a good thing can be enough and a great film like this one is another one of those that is in a class all it's own. It reminds you of the era and its a time machine of sorts allowing you to pick it up off your shelf and watch to relive it all. PLEASE DO NOT DESTROY THIS FILM LIKE HOLLYWOOD HAS DONE WITH SO MANY OTHERS!!!

Adventures in Babysitting is no doubt way too good to be remade. I defiantly don't think they can make it anywhere near as good as the original. Considering its been around 20 years the vibe of the 80s just wont be the same. It may be good if you haven't seen the original but if you have i doubt it'll be good.

4getu2 Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 08:20 AM EST

Okay I don't see what's the big deal with raven symone doing the part in the movie. 1st of all the original babysitter was not all that hot 2nd of all you can sit up here and waste your time hating on this girl doing the movie and guess what its still gonna get done and all u haters are gonna do is go and see it any way, it don't matter how much u say ur not. So I may be a year late on this movie but 1 damn thing is for sure at the end of the day raven symone is still a good actress and still has more money then everyone up leaving comments about her so FALL BACK!!!! And since most of you don't know what that means, its calm down and stop being so negative. Give her a try duhhhh

This is such a dumb idea. And the sad thing is that everyone will like it because they haven't seen the original. Save your money for something useful like cancer research or environmental improvement.

"Yeah let's remake a classic movie!"

It's like remaking Casablanca or telling Picasso how to hold his paintbrush.

It's simply not done.

I will never want to do Raven as much as I want to do Elisabeth. Therefore, the remake is a waste of time.

drew Mon, Apr 2, 2007 at 12:30 PM EST

ok i still can't believe that was Vincent D'Onofrio as thor in the first one. can anyone find me a link to a picture of him from the movie? settle a bet with the wife. i mean i can go to imdb and see it was him but i would really like a pic. any help ?? thanks

aja Thu, Mar 29, 2007 at 01:19 PM EST

disney is goood for redoing the how or whatever.

Katelynn Tue, Nov 14, 2006 at 08:05 PM EST

I searched online to find if they were going to REDO the movie, unfortunetly, then i read that THAT SO RAVEN is doing it
i dont want to see a materialistic cow eating french fries in a classic movie
to be honest i could be perfect for the role!
+ i'm not ruined like Ravon, meaning, she has lived life spoiled, trust me honey, i havent. i want to audition for the role.. where can i do that?

Melissa Mon, Sep 25, 2006 at 11:03 PM EST

Raven? WTF is that all about? I cannot see her in that role at all. Talk about ruining another decent movie...

Norm Sat, Sep 23, 2006 at 04:15 PM EST

Doing a remake will be a mistake!.... and a waste of money. It's a classic, don't mess with this movie. Look what happened when they tried to do a sequel to the dirty dancing movie.

ted Sat, Aug 26, 2006 at 05:38 PM EST

please...do not remake this movie...it doesn't make sense to. It will prove disappointing to everyone involved mostly the audience that watched the original growing up. I'm not so sure that RAVEN has it in her to fill this roll. I think Disney will make this a corny movie with no substance in the script. Just my opinion.

Brandoff Tue, Aug 8, 2006 at 10:20 PM EST

Oh god. Please don't let Raven-Symone remake this movie. A classic ruined.

Lucy Sun, Jul 30, 2006 at 10:02 AM EST

Disney, youre crap.

Steve Fri, Jul 28, 2006 at 04:52 AM EST

Disney...what are you doing??? The original has held up over time and the direction / writting / performances are still timeless.

Remaking it is a big mistake. You're better off having an anniversary edition of the original with the cast talking about their experiences with the film.

Keith Coogan Thu, Jul 20, 2006 at 03:05 PM EST

I am Keith Coogan, and I approve of this remake... as long as I get a cameo!

Kelly Sun, Jul 16, 2006 at 04:09 PM EST

Movies that should never be remade: Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Adventures in Babysitting, Can't Buy Me Love, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Goonies and The Cutting Edge.

from my to mouth to.. Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 01:18 PM EST

this is a travesty...and for various reasons...one - raven simone hasn't bee worthy of camera time since her stint and (i believe one of the only sucessful ones in sitcom history) as the cute kids to save saggy ratings on the Cosby show...

Second....whats crazy about teenagers in a bus stop now??? why would that thing eer appear in playboy...and now to really embark on the obiovus....how is a black girl going to go into a mainly black blues club and make it awkward...

it wont be a remake but more of a "well take a basic plotline and messit up royally" maybe if this was 3 years ago and lohan was set to participate...i would say "possibly" but no no no no no to raven simone and no to remaking a movie that only a certain generation cares about....

im pretty sure most 13 year olds today could care less about that movie...soon it will be "dont tell mom the babysitters dead" and then im going to have to kick some butt

Lisa D. Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 11:27 AM EST

I will purposely not watch it. I still watch it to this day on boring winter weekend afternoons. This is just wrong. Shame on them.

Chuck_A Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 10:55 AM EST

I firmly second that motion!!!

Todd Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 10:52 AM EST

Casablanca. Star Wars. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The Graduate.

These are movies that should never be remade. They are untouchable.

Adventures in Babysitting does not fall into the category of these films.

Black Power Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 10:18 AM EST

"Ain't nobody leave this place without singin' the blues"
80's movies belong to the 80's! Enough already!!!!

BJohnson Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 07:46 AM EST

Leave the movie alone. In that movie, I thought the main thing about it was that they were going into this journey to get her friend was it was the unknown. Also no cell phones to call and stay on the phone with her. Disney will cover it with sugar and take out all the edge that made the movie funny to watch. Remake your own movies like you've been doing Disney. You have a lot to choose from. And in defense of Raven, leave her alone about her weight. Sheesh, some people are just cruel. Also, I thought I saw Elisabeth Shue guest star on a Law & Order franchise????

Phil Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 12:04 AM EST

Is Disney thinking of remaking this for the big screen or for like the Disney channel, where Raven rules as like Queen of the Tweens? Either way its outright travesty. I can't possibly imagine them re-making Adventures in Babysitting, let alone with Raven as the Babysitter!!! Has she even actually STARRED in a major motion picture?! Have the Disney executives gone crazy??? And yes, the Pop Culture references were aplenty and not limited to just Thor, how about the young girl's Gizmo backpack from Gremlins?? HOW YOU GOIN TO DUPLICATE SUCH 80's MAGIC?!??

Momo Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 10:32 PM EST

this is so fuckin wrong! this movie along with many other of the 80s movies or anything done by chris columbus is my favorite. why are people fuckin with classics? i've never liked remakes of anything.. and they remade can't buy me love?! i must be out of it, with nick cannon? EW. wtf wtf wtf.

** Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 08:37 PM EST

they used shue and the playboy gag numerous times...the billboard, etc. they never actually full out showed the centerfold, but they did the face. and it was a playboy and emphatically so. they wouldn't do that now, just as they would change a lot of the things that made it great. don't f--- with 80's movies.

Erin Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 08:14 PM EST

Yeah, I'm as against this remake as the most of the rest of you. ....But I'm crossing my fingers Raven won't work out and they'll have to recast it with Rachel McAdams. I know she's in her late 20s, but she played a high schooler pretty recently in "Mean Girls" and I think she's cute enough without being too precocious.

Chuck_A Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 07:50 PM EST

Yeah, this quantity vs. quality almost seems to be getting surrealistic (read Star Jones posts). I can't remember when I've seen such passion for a common little movie in my life.

john Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 07:39 PM EST

Oh I must be getting too old..."Adventures.." a classic?
I think not...more like painfully awful to sit through...on the plus side I did get a good laugh of out Dave's comment at 258pm (but then again, if he feels that way what is doing reading popwatch?)

Renee Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 07:28 PM EST

DON'T DO THIS!! THIS IS A FANTASTIC MOVIE THAT STILL HOLDS UP TO THIS DAY! What can't Disney find some new scrrenplays? I have three friends who would give their right arm to have Disney read their stuff. FIND SOME NEW SCRIPTS!!! They exist, I swear!!

Jess Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 06:44 PM EST

The only way that the movie should be remade is if it is the year 2100 and everyone that actually loved the movie is dead. Why can't Disney get a NEW screenplay and make that into a movie??

Joyce Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 06:42 PM EST

Sorry Bridget! I guess remembering the song towards the end and not the beginning has thrown you off. The point remains, don't remake a movie that needs no remake or update!

Matt Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 05:58 PM EST

This is an awful idea. I love this moving growing up and own it on dvd. It should never be remade. Its a classic and f-ing it up with Raven is such a trashy move. No one should go see this. I know i wont. Dont make this movie disney! Are they going to replace thor? cuz marvel surely wont allow it now.

Adam Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 05:39 PM EST

They are guaranteed to f*** this up. The only mistake they could potentially fix is to actually film it in Chicago instead of doing a fake insert of that cool Chicago building into a Canadian skyline during the end sequence. And Elisabeth Shue is certainly available for a cameo. Someone give her a job!

Erin Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 05:15 PM EST

"Adventures in Babysitting" used to be one of my FAVORITE movies growing up! I wish they would leave an 80s teen classic like that alone, BUT...if Disney is going to remake it, please do us the favor of casting someone else to play the babysitter, not Raven! I just can't see it happening!!!!

mike Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:56 PM EST

DISNEY!! DO NOT RE-MAKE THIS FILM! IT WILL NOT WORK, BECAUSE YOU ARE FORCING IT TO HAPPEN. MOVIES LIKE THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN NATURALLY AND NOT RELY ON IT MEASURING UP TO THE STANDARD OF ANOTHER FILM. IT WILL FAIL.

Chuck_A Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:46 PM EST

And to think that I was overstating my point with the Casablanca remark!!! I'm sorry, Mr Curtiz; Mr Columbus has you beat in some circles.

Laurie Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:36 PM EST

I haven't thought about Vincent D'Onofrio as Thor in years and now twice in 2 weeks. Mnnnnnn Thor.

Tony Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:16 PM EST

Yeah, it's not Casablanca; it's better. Don't do it, Disney... unless you cast Anne Hathaway as Chris Parker. Then, I'm all in!

Mike Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:04 PM EST

I am completely outraged!! These 80's movies are THE definition of camp. These teen movies were intelligent without sounding too precocious, funny without being too raunchy, edgy without being too controversial. Teen movies today are either too squeeky clean or completely bland. Teens today are not scared of the big cities like they used to be in the 80's, so this movie would lack any of that sububan angst.

CiCi Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:56 PM EST

My only response to this remake "THAT'S SO AWFUL". How's that Disney and Raven.

lizzbert Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:36 PM EST

I can't believe this! The original movie was an unsung gem--that race to beat the parents home was hysterical. But it was also a product of the '80s. I don't think it can be duplicated--forget improved upon--and Raven seems a little young.

However, if they can get Vincent D'Onofrio to reprise Thor . . .

Margo Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:33 PM EST

This is awful! It could never be as good as the original. You can't replace Anthony Rapp, however hard you might try. There can be only ONE Daryl Coopersmith.

helofan Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:23 PM EST

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Adam Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:20 PM EST

Adventures in Babysitting is up there with Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz. You just do not touch classic movies. Why do we need a remake starring Raven? Is her talent so under appreciated that they're going to pit her up against hordes of comparisons to such a loved movie?

Here's an idea: give her another vehicle to star in. How about an original idea? Ok, let's draw ideas from Babysitting, but under no circumstance is it to be a re-make.

I'd love to pitch a few ideas, but I haven't thought that hard about it. Which is probably what the executives said when they decided to re-make Babysitting.

bridget Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 03:06 PM EST

Joyce--Your lyrics for Babysittin' Blues were way off. Sing the song in your head a few more time before you post.

Also, why all the hate for Raven's size. I think she's a perfect role model for teens. And, like someone said before, she's funny.

Chuck_A Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 02:55 PM EST

Correction to my 3:35 PM response: I should have said posts, not blogs.

Rhonda Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 02:44 PM EST

Leave it to Disney to take a good 80's flick and turn it into mindless dribble. This is just great, now when it comes to video, they are going to rerelease the original and I'm going to have to pay the new release price for the damn classic. You suck Disney.

Chuck_A Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 02:35 PM EST

C'mon here, folks. Almost 60 blogs calling THIS remake heresy? I mean, it was a cute picture and all but it's not Casablanca or anything.

80s Guy Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 02:31 PM EST

I'm not an "Adventures..." aficionado, but the fear I have is that this will be another really bad "photo-negative" remake, like Cedric the Entertainer's "Honeymooners", Ice Cube's "National Lampoon's Vacation" sort-of homage, "Are We There Yet?", etc.

And what will they have as a "threat" to Raven-Symone and her charges? A bunch of skinheads? A roving band of gay men? Rick Santorum? Kim Jong Il?(Hey, it worked in "Team America"!) Maybe Dick Cheney will cameo as "Crazy Old White Guy With Hunting Rifle"...

Rob Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 02:11 PM EST

Come on people! The movie was not a great classic to begin with, so when your lilly white glasses see the remake you are going to hate it regardless. I really don't care either way!

nathan Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:40 PM EST

Noe Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:39 PM EST

That would be like trying to remake Sixteen Candles or The Breakfast Club. Not a good idea!

Joyce Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:23 PM EST

Oh my, memories. Why, why spoile a great movie?! Just the opening alone

Well, he walked up to me and he asked me if I wanted to dance
He looked kinda nice and so I said I might take a chance.
When he danced he held me tight
And when he walked me home that night
All the stars were shining bright
And then he kissed me...

Then the utterly classic:

There were nights, swear you were born to lose (like tonight)
And you wish your feet were walking in someone else’s shoes.

Some guys are out to get us.
And Brenda's probably dead.
We ain't got a nickle.
AND WE SHOULD BE DEAD! And you outta luck. YEEAAH
I just love watching these guys
I’ve got the…baby sitting blues (baby, baby)
Babysitting blues (baby, baby)
Babysitting blues

finn Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:18 PM EST

Please make it stop. My eyes are bleeding.

Natalie Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:06 PM EST

the idea of a remake SUCKS! and so does Raven!!!! she is a terrible actress and this movie is greatness as is.

Sweep Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:05 PM EST

Nooooo! Raven will turn this movie into a slapstick fest. No one, and I mean NO ONE can fill the shoes of Elisabeth Shue (no pun intended). And to quote LuLu - Mmmmmm.....Elisabeth Shue....

Carlos Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 01:03 PM EST

this.cannot.be.

'adventures in babysitting' is my all time favorite movie and the idea of that porkstress Raven starring in it makes me want to have an abortion.

please lord, do not let this happen.

can you imagine raven singing 'baysitting blues' then she has one of her annoying psychic visions that go inside her eye?

DEATH TO RAVEN!

KT Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:44 PM EST

NO WAY. ABSOLUTELY NO WAY. Raven's fine, but there's no way in hell it'll be a good movie. Obviously they're trying too hard by copying classics to reach a totally different demographic than it's original audience. I think it sucks and I suggest a petition to stop it.

Leslie Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:40 PM EST

While I don't HATE the idea of a remake (although I'd prefer it remained untouched), it's obvious that a remake with "Raven" will be HORRIBLE. It's like they're not even trying!

Stephanie Travitsky Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:27 PM EST

I don't think that they ever showed Shue or a body double in the Playboy gag, and Raven is not that heavy. But still there are certain movies that you just can't touch and A.B., and Can't Buy Me love are two of those movies. Watch, next will be Fast Times at Rigemont High.

dma69 Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:21 PM EST

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Don't. Even. Think. About. Remaking. This.

***** Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:13 PM EST

NONONONONONONONONO! LEAVE IT ALONE!
how much do i love this movie???!!!
i have a compromise for the studio execs with no imagination at all...why dont you just re-release all the old 80's movies that you are busy remaking instead of f*ing them up? just pretend that they are new, and you will SAVE MONEY. oooh, save money, sounds good, huh?
if they re-make this it will be some crappy teen movie that only the fans of the actors in it will see.
they don't make them like they used to....

djm Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 12:11 PM EST

I agree - they should leave this movie alone. I agree with everything that others have posted - about it being cheesy, the song on the soundtrack from RS, and everything else. Besides, how will they work the Playboy gag into it? Raven is WAY to heavy to be in Playboy (plus they don't use many African American models - although Clueless's Stacy Dash is in it this month - but shamefully not on the cover) and in today's PC society they would probably try to change it to Maxim or something stupid like that. Just leave it alone!!!!

Craig G Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:59 AM EST

Ugh

This is a great movie, and as previously posted, it will just get turned into some generic teen movie, that has been target audience-d to death...with no quirks or comedy to it at all.

Plus the 80's time capsule that the original is should stay as it is- the mom's fur coat, the maroon cadillac, a young Bradley Whitford, everything is so rad!

At least a crappy remake will bring attention to the genius of the original.

"But I don't have any cash!"
"Then I don't have a weiner!!!"

penelope ann miller is awesome.

and I have to quote Keith Coogan's other babysitting movie, Don't tell mom the babysitter is dead...."The dishes are done man!"

I agree with Jay - I really can't stand RS (and I think their choice for the leading role is what makes me so upset about this remake)

This movie is probably going to insert cheesy PSAs, awful attempts at pop-culture jokes, and have too much teeny-bopper references that will only appeal to fans of the Cheetah Girls franchise

David Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:54 AM EST

This sucks! A sacrilege. I'm totally depressed. My life means nothing. Shame on you hollywood!

Ali Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:53 AM EST

yes, that movie is too sacred - RS is too fat for the role and was only a good actress when she was a toddler.

KC Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:45 AM EST

Aaargh! This SUCKS! I'm sorry...but 80s teen classics should be left alone. You can't recreate that kind of lovable cheesiness these days. And Raven Symone!?!? I still have nightmares about her ruining the Cosby show as an overly precocious, pageant-ready toddler. She is definitely no Shue.

Adventures in Babysitting took what on paper sounds like a horrible, grating cheese-fest (no pun intended) and infused it with real laughs, wit, and most importantly, heart. I love this movie waaay more than I should, as do many of my friends and family. I can't help but express that the thought of a remake frightens me more than a warehouse full of violent, inept chop shop mobsters; more than getting my toe stabbed during a subway gang fight; and way more than suddenly realizing the kitten I'm holding is really a jumbo-sized sewer rat. Now get outta my HOUSE!

But no one leaves this Comments section without typing the blues.

I think it's awesome (and rad, and gnarly) that us 80's babies are having fits over remaking this movie. I won't go see this drivel and I hope no one else will either. Raven is adorable but I'm going to wait for the video.

Shame on people for even mentioning Ferris's movie. Please, don't give the drones at the movie studios ANY ideas.

Nose Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:22 AM EST

I am so sick of these remakes!!

As a young girl in the 80's, I absolutely loved the opening scene where she dances around her room singing "And then He Kissed Me"....they will never duplicate that! Just leave these movies alone!!

Jay Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:21 AM EST

Leave it be, please, especially with someone like Raven as lead. I can't even sit through an episode of her lame sitcom.

GeeMoney Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 11:13 AM EST

Raven is actually funny. Her show is a trip. Hopefully they'll write a decent script and the movie won't stink.

The original was pretty cool. Not a classic, but pretty cool. There is no need to remake it only 20 years later. What's especially gross about this is that it will no doubt be an urban, "hip-hop" remake, full of lame race jokes and slurs. Neat. Great job, people.

Cru Jones Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 10:49 AM EST

Awful, just completely awful! Don't touch a classic like Babysitting, hasn't Hollywood learned their lesson with horrible remakes like Love Don't Cost a Thing and Psycho??? I'm all for remaking obscure or "bad" movies, but stay away from the icons. What 80's classic will they butcher next? Ferris Bueller? Rad? Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

Miles Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 10:32 AM EST

Two movies of my youth that should never be redone... is this one and The Goonies. But the good thing about re-makes is that you can chose to ignore them... and they make people talk about how good the original was, which will introduce new people to this Elizabeth Shue gem of a film.

mark Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 10:23 AM EST

there's no point in remaking a film unless it's gonna be BETTER! but the casting alone signifies this will not happen. so why bother?

julie Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 10:01 AM EST

One of my ALL TIME FAVES! Not sure there should be a remake, but if the writers in hollywood cant come up with new ideas, we should get used to all these remakes. Its sad, when im sure there are still so many ideas that have NEVER been done, but hey im sure its cheaper to remake a movie than to be original, and we know the movie studios are so close to going broke... yeah hahaha.
