What's next for Star Jones?

Jun 27, 2006, 04:20 PM | by Gary Susman

Categories: Morning Madness

153119__star_l Alas, the Star vs. Rosie showdown will never happen, as Ms. Jones Reynolds announced this morning on The View that she's ending her nine-year run in July, two months before O'Donnell comes aboard the ABC chatfest to fill Meredith Vieira's chair. Moreover, Star tells People, she didn't jump, she was pushed. How ignominious, to be booted just because there wasn't ego room for both her and the star of Riding the Bus with My Sister.

Ah, but don't cry for the Princess of Payless. According to the New York Daily News, she's already in talks with several other networks.

Whoever hires her, I think she should become that network's chief White House correspondent, so that she can gush over Tony Snow and other administration officials the way she does over minor TV stars on the Emmy red carpet. Think about it: Who needs unconditional love more than President Bush, who is polling somewhere between Kevin Federline and MC Hammer these days? And who is more likely than Star to figure out how to make a news beat profitable? The product-placement premiums alone will save her network enough to fund the entire D.C. bureau. The resulting coverage will pull in a young female demographic that even Katie Couric's legs can't draw, and it'll be funnier than The Colbert Report to boot.

It's a win-win for everybody. Or do you have a better idea for Ms. Jones' next job?

Star Jones, is gone good. Star had become such a phony and she thought she was cute. As for her being an attorney, I do not see it, good attornies practice law not show off on TV. Where is the common sense, always telling everything about her personal life as if we care. Well I guess she was just overwhelmed to find herself a husband.

wendymaddy Fri, Jul 7, 2006 at 03:06 PM EST

As a person who has struggled and lost my battle with the bulge, I was reinspired by Star Jones and that other persnickety gal, Kirstie Alley, to try again. This time, I am having better luck, thanks to their shining examples that you can be less than young and still look beautiful and sexy and be successful on television. Star is a great example because she educated herself and got her man and lost her weight and had her dream wedding and got somebody else to help pay for it, and was on a hit show, too. Well, that dream bubble burst when ABC let her go, but that is their loss, not hers. She will rise again, like the cream to the top that she is. She still says great things about Babs and The View on her web site. I'd say they should eat crow and ask - no, BEG, her to please come home to ABC and her seat on The View! She loved being a cohost on that show, and she was a big part of its success. She endured a lot of nasty comments from Joy Behar that she did not earn. Why Behar was befriended by Barbara and the ABC network favored her over Star is a true mystery to me! The View is no longer ethnically balanced anymore, anyway. Barbara and Joy are both Jewish, which is what most tv producers are, Elisabeth is obviously a radical right wing Republican tv station owner's dream, because she doesn't even have to think to have a view, just parrot right-wing rhetoric, and the oriental voice is long gone. Hispanics never had a voice on this show. Rita Moreno and Eartha Kitt, where are you when we need you?
Meredith Viera and Star Jones were a nice mix and both will be missed. Star will probably get her own show, and have better, meatier topics to discuss than washing out underwear by hand, I'll bet my "soap" hankies on that one! I like Barbara Walters in general for her longevity, but have no delusions that she is a mental giant, either, though I like to wish that she was more than she has displayed thus far. She is a marketing genius and has a real flair for longevity in the business. Star Jones is smart enough to put together her own show and make a big success of it, given the right to pick and choose how to do it, I will also bet.

Teresa Thu, Jul 6, 2006 at 08:51 PM EST

I think Star Jones handled her situation in a very
professional way, I can not say the same for Barbara Walters or ABC I personally will not watch the veiw no more, Some one who has worked for ABC as long as she did, deserved more respect, and honesty about everything
I hope Star Jones surpasses them all in what ever she does! You Go Girl White female 44 from Georgia

Denise_J Thu, Jul 6, 2006 at 06:38 PM EST

Whether you like Star or not, the facts are the facts. Barbara Walters is a liar. She admitted that her comments to Star on air were a lie. How are we supposed to believe that this is the 1st time she has lied to the public. Rosie is loud, rude and not pleasant to look at(she doesn't even care about her own looks). How can she be an asset to The View? Bad choice. After the negative things that have been said about Rosie, she has a lot of nerve talking about Star or anyone else. "Karma is a b----!" She's going to get her pay back. Star knows who holds her future. The Believers know that it's ok to make mistakes and be forgiven. I have know doubt that Star will be back stronger than ever.

Wendy KEss Wed, Jul 5, 2006 at 10:22 PM EST

After hearing Star's bigoted views against gay marriage I'm afraid I'm no longer a fan.

Michelle Wed, Jul 5, 2006 at 12:20 PM EST

I watched Star Jones give her finally comments on the Larry King show. Why is Rosie so mad with Star? I feel Rosie should focus on her weight and health. With the life style Rosie has chosen in this life, I feel only the bible will justify if it is right or wrong. Why would Rosie want Star away? Why would Rosie talk negative about Star's husband? Rosie has a lady guy. I feel morally it's wrong for the same sex to raise children because kids follow in the same directions of their parents. I know this as true because a relative of in my family kids are very confuse.

Now, Star has never spoke negative about Rosie's life. I feel adding Rosie to the View will bring negative ratings. i would never trust Rosie or bababra walters if they were my boss.I respected Ms. Walters but her true character was exposed on national tv.i pray for Star to discover a better TV show than the View. after all Ms. Walter's is not bringing in the young audiences. It's best to leave with dignity oexposed on your own terms. Thanks Star.

frappe Wed, Jul 5, 2006 at 10:55 AM EST

This not so shiny STAR makes me wanna puke. I for one could not be happier that this drag queen is gone from the View (not that it was a top 10 favorite of mine anyways...) Getting rid of her is like cleaning the show of its cockroach infestation. It may actually grab my attention now. NOW, if we could just make her fall off of the face of the Earth, mankind would indeed be in a better way...

Salli Wed, Jul 5, 2006 at 09:26 AM EST

I wonder what some of you would feel like if you were judged every day by someone you didn't know, and you could read the posts on line a long with everyone else.

Star is a person with real feelings. She isn't a super model so stop acting like she is. She is a talk show host. She wasn't paid to look good but to co-host a talk show.

You guys are mean!

Do Sun, Jul 2, 2006 at 11:34 AM EST

I still prefer inflated star to baloon head, noisy out of closet O'Donnell star doesn't preach about pride in coming out of closet, will Mrs. Walters be next that she needed one for encouragement. Go walters, Go Behar Go whoelse wanna bees.......

janocky Sun, Jul 2, 2006 at 04:41 AM EST

Why are people haters when they come in contact with an outspoken, self-confident, intelligent black woman? Star embodies all of these qualities. This is especially true since she lost weight. Her confidence level has zoomed upward!

Folk like Rosie whose careers as talk show host and actress evenutally tanked, feel they don't need to mind their own business. Perhaps Rosie wanted some publicity to get herself back in the public's eye; sad that it is at someone else's expense. She is a bully.

Star felt her weight loss experience was personal and had the right to keep it private. Do celebrities have any right to privacy when it comes to experiences that are traumatic to them? For example, should celebrities who are victims of horrid crimes, such rape or incest make it a public matter by talking about it? Star said her weight loss was critical as her status was life threatening. That situation could be traumatic enough for her that she did not want to revisit it by discussing it.

I am thrilled Star exposed ABC and Barbara Walters as deceptors who claimed they were willing to go through such as ruse for the sake of Star's reputation. That's bull... They did it so that fans of Star's wouldn't abandon The View if she went along with the deception and stated publicly that she was moving on to something else. I WILL NEVER WATCH THE VIEW AGAIN.

Star Jones, I wish you the best. At least you have your legal training to fall back on.

Denise Sat, Jul 1, 2006 at 05:17 PM EST

I stopped watching this show after Lisa Ling left: Hey, that's about the same time the show started to tank and lose it's classiness! With Rosie coming, I will for sure never watch again. Good Luck, Star, I hope this whole episode brings you back to earth. And please, get some counseling for your anorexia!

kathy Sat, Jul 1, 2006 at 12:04 PM EST

I think that it's 'the view's' loss. Star Jones was the one host who provided educated observations on that show. Her background as a lawyer was a plus for the show. Merideth Viera was the other intelligent host. With both of them gone, the show will suffer. Rosie O'Donnel I'm not excited about. We all know that she is steadfast with her homosexual agenda, which is really getting old. What does she know about fashion? She's not really funny anymore. She takes herself way too seriously.
I wish Star Jones well.

latanya Fri, Jun 30, 2006 at 11:26 PM EST

i didn't get to watch the show much, but i was tired of hearing star jones talk about her wedding and her husband. however, i blame the shows producers partly for this because they would air shows about weddings and would do segments that they knew would get her talking about the wedding. when she had her breast surgery, they did not have to put star on the air to see how she was doing, but they did. i think they wanted the viewers to get tired of her, which we did, and that would be the excuse for firing her. and as far as star having surgery to lose weight, that IS her personal decision whether she wanted to talk about it or not, just like its rosie's personal decision to talk about her homosexuality or not. the show won't last very long

Chuck_A Fri, Jun 30, 2006 at 11:05 PM EST

Yeah...Every time I look at her I want to say, "Hey! Why the long face?

star jones is a babe Fri, Jun 30, 2006 at 10:37 AM EST

To the person who wrote: "Star Jones is better looking than the average housewife", this statement can only be true if you replaced "housewife" with "gorilla".

You have bad taste.

Star Jones was a bigot and it was time someone deflated that big head of hers.

Tawanda Fri, Jun 30, 2006 at 09:11 AM EST

To kevin who wrote a comment on June 29,2006. Who made Barbra Walters' the God of television? Maybe you but Star and many others believe in a higher power and what he (God) has in store for Star Jones Reynolds, no one ( Barbra, ABC network, or any one else for that matter) will be able to interfere with.

Jean Thu, Jun 29, 2006 at 07:16 PM EST

Many of you have spoken very harshly of Star and she does not know you and neither has she done anything to you for such evil comments. However, I think Star did the right thing, by letting the truth be told on her terms and at her time. I have lost respect for Barbara Walters, as Star said she betrayed her by announcing the hiring of Rosie O'Donnell, and what are the real reasons for firing Star? Usually a person is not doing the job or not coming to work? If this is about how she lost her weight, from a viewers' perspective, this is wrongful dismissal, as Star has reported, that she does not want to be a poster person or advocate for anyone to say, or blame her for if their weight loss program, does not work if they tried her methods.

I knew the show would not let a black woman last long with all that power she was given. I knew it was going to be just a matter of time that someone would explode. Star and Meredith both balanced the show, and when an employer humuliates and jerks an employee so publically before the world, as done to Star, there will be no good end for the employer. I don't have a good feeling for The View...I predict an early demise, although, I had just begun re-watching it, but with Star's treatment, I will no longer be watching the show.

Star was a star before The View and she can move on to Star's New View or "Star's New Start" or whatever will make her feel renewed.

It really doesn't take a special person to think up something mean spirited and selfrighteous to type on a blog. Star Jones is better looking than the average housewife, I think for some of you it's this fact that hurts the most.

Debra Thu, Jun 29, 2006 at 02:31 AM EST

Listen, I have no sympathy for Star Jones. Many of my friends at companies were told their contracts would not be renewed and they didn't get two days before they were out the door! This lady was told, according to her, in the Spring. So she gets six months to find a job. I wish!! She knew people were turned off by the wedding stories, the breast surgery, the weight loss (did she or did she not have surgery) question. Any TV or film personality can do their own research and find out what their audiences are thinking about them. And if ABC felt like she had become a liability to one of their shows, they have every right not to renew her contract. I'm sure being a lawyer, she read the contract before she signed. And I'm sure there was a clause in the contract which stated when ABC had to give notice. So for all of you writing that they should have told her last fall, maybe you're right, but only out of friendship to her. Otherwise, they were under no obligation to notify her any earlier than what was stated in her contract with them.

But boy did she burn a bridge with one of the most powerful women in television! Something we all have been taught in the corporate world--try to leave a job with people still on your side because you never know when you need to call on them in the future for a reference or end up working with someone from a previous job at your new company. It will be interesting to see which network, if any, will take a chance on her after the way she burned BW and ABC. Especially now that she's in print, on radio and on Larry King Thursday mouthing off that 'they did me wrong'!

***********************************
I totally agree with this statement
***********************************

I am disappointed in Barbra Walters. I was a fan, but now I see she's not loyal to her co-workers. I thought the idea behind the View was the bonding between them. This just reeks of backstabbing.
I wish Star Jones the best. I hope she moves on to better things.

Goodluck!

V.M.L. Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:50 PM EST

Ahh, she deflated her face! She's becoming another Nicole Richie!

renee Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 07:18 PM EST

This has been so entertaining to read… truly hilarious!!! I do think that hiring Rosie is a gigantic mistake. She is too abrasive and aggressive for this shows fading demographic. I rarely watch, but will definitely not watch with Rosie is part of the cast. First, Star jaw jacks about her wedding, now all Rosie will talk about is her gay cruise and gay this and that. She will probably have ugly scowls on her face and ugly shaved hair…oh well, who cares because the show will probably be off the air completely by 1st qtr 07.

Zed Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 05:51 PM EST

Staples' office supplies celeb-endorser?

Seriously, i thought she was great as reporter/provider of law related commentary on NBC news eons ago....
unfortunately The View became "a success" and the hosts 'marketable'... just proving that a little fame can be a dangerous thing in regards to unchecked ego expansion....

B Ro Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 02:59 PM EST

Star Jones... next appearing at the nearest all-you-can-eat buffet.

Seriously, she should have had her head shrunk while she was getting her tummy tuck.

Michael H. Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 02:24 PM EST

Star is not a victim in this mess; her audience started to lose respect for her when she turned her wedding into a trade show and then followed that by not being completely forthright about her weight loss. (And I'm sorry but she forfeited her right to privacy on that issue by virtue of being on television daily as opposed to a civilian).

I have no ill will towards Star however I also have no patience with her trying to come off as a victim.

I do believe BW (and ABC) took the high road and offered Star a chance to redeem herself (hence the six month grace period); when Star could still not take responsibility for her behavior, she was given an opportunity to make a graceful exit with the planned announcement for Thursday and she blew that opportunity as well.

As for who should replace her - I love Wanda Sykes but that would be one comedian too many on the panel and besides Wanda is already doing great work on other projects. How about Rolonda Watts - is she still around?

Liz Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 02:01 PM EST

It's such a power play -- who has more, Star or Rosie? Star ALWAYS gets bad press and makes herself an easy target -- Rosie's wacko, too, but more respected (and people in the biz are more fearful of her). Either way, I don't watch the show but think something like this is so interesting. Why must we have PR? Why can't we know exactly what's going on behind the scenes? :-)

Elsa Cook Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 01:18 PM EST

Wow...some of you have written some pretty mean spirited things about Star. She is an attractive person and I give her much credit for doing whatever she needed to do to lose the weight.

I personally liked Star on the show. I feel she provided much needed balance to the show. I also feel that hiring Rosie was a BIG mistake. I used to like Rosie when she did her own show...but Rosie made a tremendous change in her attitude. It doesn't seem to me that she will be a good "fit" for the show...she is too opinionated, she tends to take over and overwhelm those around her. Can The View survive these changes? I don't think so and I used to tape this show (since it started) to watch it when I came home from work.

I give Star a BIG thumbs up for making the announcement on HER own time...not Barbara's or ABC's. Isn't that just like a company...they fire you and then want YOU to be loyal to them and make it seem all nice an pretty. Give me a break! She should have said..."I was fired"...that would REALLY have shocked Barbara!

Andrea Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 01:09 PM EST

Did I just writer "Better Midler"? I clearly meant Bette Midler, although the typo might make for a good porn name.

Andrea Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 01:08 PM EST

What was that comment on a Friends episode once? "... she's all bitter now that she lost the weight and it turns out she doesn't have a pretty face ..." Seriously, could a team of doctors have predicted that Star had Big-Head Syndrome and that no amount of sucking and tucking would cure her of it? (See Al Roker & Better Midler.) I don't watch the show, being a full-time 9-to-5er, yet I STILL say that Star Jones is annoying and disgraceful in too many ways to list. Somebody on here is going to hold Rosie's homosexuality against her? Are you freakin' kidding me? Did she ever hold your heterosexuality against you? Do unto others blahblahblah.

Denise Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 12:07 PM EST

I liked the old Star Jones, I work during the day, so I don't get to watch the show much, But what has she done to herself. THINNER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER, and who is her makeup artist. She looks kinda strange these days...

newbie Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 11:33 AM EST

TellyB, your idea was terrific. I think Star and Kathie Lee are both destined to take up residence in the Starting Over house or The Surreal Life. As for the person that predicted Gayle King joining to replace Star...there were those rumors back a few months ago, but everyone presumed it was to replace Meredith. Now that we know the scheming to get Star out began back in Sept, I think you've hit the nail on the head!!! It explains why every one was so deceptively vague and coy. These people make me ill! I do not understand Gayle's appeal in the least. Opes may like her as a friend, but, sorry, the charisma doesn't translate to the screen. I wonder if all of this behind the scenes intrigue is what caused Meredith to feel it was a great time to bail without consulting Babs. That makes me respect her all the more!

newbie Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 11:13 AM EST

Newsflash...Babs announced today that Star will not be allowed to finish her stint on the show on her terms because of the way she handled everything and that she had been fired in the spring. Joy and Elisabeth were at their best today, but they'll never survive a whole summer. There is going to be nothing left of any of them by the time that September rolls around.

Amber Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 10:32 AM EST

That picture of Star scares the crap out of me.

perry Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 10:29 AM EST

YAY! I'm glad to see her go. I never watch morning TV but was sick last week and tuned in. First of all, the woman sitting at the table didn't even look like Star and 2ndly the constant sour look on her face and her disdain for BW I was surprised she was still on the show. Although, I'd rather see Rosie replace BW which would make for a much more interesting show.
I found the whole show rather boring. Well the first part/chat since I turned it off.

cj Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 10:18 AM EST

yes elisabeth is a moron but won't it be more fun to watch rosie and joy mess with her,she fell for it when a guest knew she would be wound up by making fun of laura bush.

Cici Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:43 AM EST

In the end Star Jones talked herself out of a job the minute she really believed that "star" was more than just her name, she was doomed. She went from semi-intelligent voice of reason to an airhead in record time. I for one got sick of hearing about her wedding and husband all of the time. An occassional antidote here there would've been ok but the T-shirts and the medallion, etc was just too much. Also for someone who says live in the truth, she apparently could not to do that when it came to her own life in some aspects. I would've had more respect for her to say I did have gastric bypass on the advice of my doctors this was a recommended course of action for me end statement and move on. As for Barbara Walters, I have lost respect for her as well. If she knew in December that Star was a goner she should've told her the truth then and not admit now that you were lying about Star Jones' future in order to protect her. This is business and she should have been truthful from jump.

Tricia Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:41 AM EST

Let's not forget who watches The View -- people that are at home during the morning and able to turn a TV on. Stay at Home or Work at Home Moms -- let's face it. Star appealed to that demographic way more than Rosie ever will. And, remember, Rosie had the big audiences and won her Emmys before she became militant and intentional about her sexuality (when she gushed daily over Tom Cruise?!!!)

kim Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:32 AM EST

How about the host of a bridezilla-fear factor mash-up

Liza Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:29 AM EST

I use to like Star, but her constant arrogance and talking about her husbad and wedding have turned me off.
I'm postive when Rosie comes on, the show will be much better. I predict Emmys. Rosie won soooo many with her own show and I'm sure she will with the View as well

Capri Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:26 AM EST

How can ABC fired Star, yet kept that empty-headed moron Elizabeth on the show.

Stephanie Travitsky Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 09:17 AM EST

So, If we have to listen to Rosie, then we need RuPaul. Someone has to put her in her place and if Star is not going to be the bigger person, then we need a tall, mature, drag queen with style.

dma69 Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:56 AM EST

I never, ever understood the appeal of The View. I refer to it as the Cackling Hens show. So seeing Star leave is no big deal, but I do feel that the rating will tank as a result. Love her or hate her, Star has a following. And I do agree that the photo of her looks bad. Weight loss is suppose to make one look good, not look bad.

Ken Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:42 AM EST

What should she do next? How about...die.

GoddessLu Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:29 AM EST

Wow you guys are tough. I've never been a huge fan of Star's (Meredith my my favorite host) but I was a loyal Viewer for many years until Meredith left. Then the announcement of Rosie O'Donnell coming just solidifed for me that this show was no longer going to be my cup of coffee (hate tea). I don't know the veracity of Star's or BW's statements but it seems to be getting ugly. I think the View should wrap it up and end at 10 years (or better yet, end this year, their 9th before the decline). Start does look bad in that photo but c'mon guys, she's not an ugly person. Your comments, however are.

Tammie Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:28 AM EST

I guess I'm in the minority, but I would much rather keep Star and get rid of Elisabeth. At least Star doesn't have heated arguments with guests she doesn't agree with.

But I have a feeling that Elisabeth's rants are all part of the "new direction" the View will be taking. They've lost me.

Lisa Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:07 AM EST

She may be intelligent, but that doesn't mean I have any desire whatsoever to watch her. You can be smart and not be entertaining. Aside from the tackiness of the freebie wedding, this picture is a perfect example of 'she'd be pretty if she lost some weight' not being true. Maybe we won't have to hear about her husband's 'stallion' legs anymore. Shudder.

eb Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 08:02 AM EST

She needs to eat a freakin' sandwich.

Tricia Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 07:58 AM EST

No matter what you personally think of Star, you have to now see that Barbara Walters is a witch. I give Star props for not letting Barbara make the announcement of her departure becasue Babs would have tried to make it look all sweet and nice. I was "laid off" once from a job and the company wanted to gloss it over because I was well-liked by my colleagues. I said hogwash and made the admit they were getting rid of me. I think that is exactly what Star was doing and I don't blame her. BW is just p-ssed that Star upped her on this one. No matter, my prediction for the future -- Elisabeth H. will be the next to go (I don't know how or why she'd want to stay) and the show will crumble, crumble, crumble and be off the air in a year. (Cause unless Rosie makes some radical change in her personality, her act is going to get old and offensive FAST!)

Tim Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 07:57 AM EST

Not a fan of the show. Never could figure out its appeal, or how serious journalists like Walters and Vierra could be associated with it.

And every time I see Star, I think of Tracy Morgan in drag. 'Cause I'm a lawyah!

Maria Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 07:24 AM EST

Now ABC is telling Star not to come into work today. Ouch.

It's funny: in the beginning, I used to like Star a lot but then it seemed that her ego got overinflated and then turned it up a notch. (To the poster who claims we would all like a free wedding, yes it would be nice. But shilling for freebies while on the air is not only tacky, but I also believe is a violation of FCC rules so it's not allowed. As a law-yer, she should have known that or at least made sure she wasn't doing anything illegal.) That said, I can't help feeling a bit (shudder) sorry for her. Apparently it's been in the works since September, long before the TV anchor musical chair games started. And yet they don't tell her until mid-April? I can't buy the fact that Babs wanted to "protect" her as she suggested in the AP article. But Babs also admitted that Star's off air antics were part of the reason she got canned.

BTW, apparently it's a rerun today so any post-mortems may be only seen tomorrow.

Sven Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 06:34 AM EST

Where was this photo of Star Jones found? She looks like a crack whore in it. Does she actually look like this now? I hope not...

TorontoTom Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 06:25 AM EST

Okay, you've got Rosie's viewer base locked up. You've cut your losses with the Payless Star. Now, clinch the deal by hiring Oprah's pal Gayle King as Star's replacement and you undoubtedly grab a whole lot of O's loyal subjects. It's a ratings juggernaut with an Emmy win for Daytime Host in the bag.

khia Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 05:28 AM EST

She has a law degree but no license. She gave it up last year. And once you give it up, it's not that easy to get back. Don't send her back to us in law. We don't want her!

Robin Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 05:18 AM EST

WHO CARES? I MEAN AFTER HER WEDDINGS, STAR REALLY MADE A ASS OUT OF HERSELF

Ryan Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 05:13 AM EST

I am kind of sad by this... I was waiting for the SNL sketch of The View with Horatio Sanz as Rosie and Kennan Thompson as Star. Oh well, I'm sure they can still find a way to do something about this;)

Ned Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 02:31 AM EST

Star Jones or Rosie O'Donnel? Egads, who do you root for in that turd sandwich?

cliff Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 01:31 AM EST

With Star gone, who will recite meaningless bumpersticker cliches as if they were original thoughts? Who will name-drop? Who will lie?

Telly B Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 12:52 AM EST

Poor Star can't get a break...first she marries a gold-digging gay man, then her book tanks miserably on the book charts, then E! fires her, and now she loses her day job...

Maybe Kathie Lee and Star can do a reality show about faded divas and their lives post Daytime Talk Show?

Mark Wed, Jun 28, 2006 at 12:26 AM EST

She's the second documented case of the doomed "Al-Roker-Head-Syndrome" (some post-gastric-bypass-annoying-famous-people suffer from it)

Oh, you mean this isn't the "write a new caption" game...

Oh, ok, well then.... my advice to Star would be to simply bow out of any limelight and quietly retire early with her gay husband and save us all hours of migraines; That would be great for us, but bad for excedrin migraine.

Tim Lade Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 11:15 PM EST

Well her career as a professional publicity stunt is off to a fantastic start! I'd like to personally congratulate Star for proving that her jealousy of the attention Meredith and Katie have gotten can only be articulated by the "Fine! I'm taking my bat and my ball and going home!" mentality. Star we know you like attention, we know you think you’re the centre of the universe, and we know that you are a lawyer. What we don't know is why we are supposed to be care about a two bit day time talk show host who has virtually no on camera presence, no journalistic experience, and seems only concerned with scoring the spotlight. Good riddance I say!

In the past year, I have watched more than a healthy dose of the View, for the mere reason that one can only stand so many DNA tests on Maury. Anyway, going into this phase, I was a Mrs. JOnes-Reynolds hater, but God help me if Babs wasn't the one I grew to despise! Not a conversation goes by where she doesn't figure out a way to toot her own horn with the worst speaking voice on television. Please rewatch the day when Meredith announced she was leaving or the days they talked about Katie's big move. Never once did Meredith tell that they had offered her the CBS anchor job first, but Babs dropped her own career firsts innumerable times. GAG!

Joy and Star bickered, but I don't think it was anything either of them couldn't handle, and I think it would have eventually been the same with Star and Rosie. Babs' comments in the press have been transparently catty and negative since Meredith announced she was leaving. Hiring Rosie was a calculated and obvious middle finger to Star. I give Star MASSIVE credit for giving Babs a sneak attack on live television so that there wasn't a darn thing she could do about it. When she grabbed Star's hand for the entire time that she was talking, I was staring at the screen trying to figure out just how deep the nails were carving into her skin. Poor Elisabeth looked like she was going to have a heart attack, and Joy went out of her way to be supportive and gracious to Star. Barbara then attempted a comment that made her seem either incredibly clueless about her own show or like a shameless liar and but for the death grip around Star's right hand, I think Star was ready to call her out on that one, too. I hope Star lets it rip the next couple of weeks. I bet the show doesn't make it to October.

I have to say that I didn't like Star before, but I hate seeing anybody being treated the way she has been. She has been treated very unfairly by ABC. If they didn't like the way she was acting, they could have pulled her aside and voiced their opinion, instead of just firing her.

I don't understand how any of them could be "surprised" or "shocked" by her decision. It's been in the news for months. And I can't blame her. Why stay where you are obviously unwelcome, and she obviously knew she was being ousted, so why be humiliated? Why not do it on your own terms before someone does it for her?

I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell. She's such a self-righteous know-it-all. I appreciate her efforts for gay and lesbian rights and for children, but she's a bully.

I am disappointed in Barbra Walters. I was a fan, but now I see she's not loyal to her co-workers. I thought the idea behind the View was the bonding between women. This just reeks of backstabbing.
I wish Star Jones the best. I hope she moves on to better things.

I second that Angie.

I was always of the opinion that Hammer was up a ways with Sir-Mix-alot, while Federline and Bush were together with Vanilla Ice...

angiemarie Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 08:31 PM EST

Saying President Bush's approval rating is around K-Fed's and MC Hammer's is quite an insult. An insult to MC Hammer!

innocent bystander Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 07:29 PM EST

Now, Barara Walters is telling the press that SHE feels betrayed by Star.Star wasn't supposed to make the announcement until Thursday's show and she's especially ticked by Star's "fired" comments. AND SHE'S CLAIMING IT'S THE ABC brass that wanted Star gone. They're both phonies, but I gotta give Star "props" for exposing BW for what she is.

EP Sato Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 07:11 PM EST

There's always retail...

Jen Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 07:06 PM EST

OK, I love Star, but she does look a hot mess in that photo. I think Star is fabulous, and you can tell that she's just trying to enjoy her first forays out of big-girldom. She started working the Lady Godiva weave, jewelry, and more 'fashionable' clothes, she got a man, a dog and the ultimate wedding extravaganza (WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT---People are attacking her for it, but come on y'all, you'd do the same thing if you could...I would. Why pay for all of that?)

Drama aside, she is an intelligent and savvy woman and I'm going to miss her on 'The View'. She and Meredith brought some balance to that gaggle of geese. I didn't like the way the other ladies treated her. I hope that on her last episode, she gives an expletive-laced goodbye to the other ladies. That would be a dream!

The Other Kyle Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 06:19 PM EST

We're not judging her character. We're commenting on her appearance.

You don't have to know somebody to have an opinion on how she looks.

And her arms are ashy.

kevin Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 06:15 PM EST

Wow,when nerds attack! It's like some of you are in competition to say the most hateful thing about a woman you don't know.

Ian Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 05:32 PM EST

She could play Divine Brown in a multi-ethnic remake of 'Pink Flamingos.'

Thad Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 05:17 PM EST

Scary Movie 5

LK Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 05:11 PM EST

Gregory Hines was much better looking.

sal Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 05:06 PM EST

Yes I AM a lawyah!

Fatima Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 05:02 PM EST

No! I scheduled my classes around the Star/Rosie melee that was bound to ensue! I feel ripped off man!

Karen Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 04:34 PM EST

Oh man...she does look a little like Gregory Hines if he were to put on make-up. Anyhoo, regardless of how Star Jones has left the view, Quit, Fired, Run out of town...whatever. Remember that clown make up or no make up she is a very smart cookie and I you can bet your bottom dollor that Star will not be out of a job. She has something in the works, and if not, Ok...she has a LAW DEGREE people. She can always go back to law. How many people have that option???? Like I said, dont worry about Ms. Jones Reynolds..she will be just fine. And Barbara probably did get rid of her because she was waaay too much diva for her to handle, but they knew that Star was a diva to begin with. Stop acting like this is something new people...duh.

The Other Kyle Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 04:21 PM EST

She looks hideous.

One step away from Michael Jackson.

Just gross.

Peggy Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 04:15 PM EST

"People" magazine is reorting that Star was informed her contract wouldn't be renewed, a few days before Meredith announced her exit. I seriously doubt Rosie has the clout to dictate who is and isn't on the panel. I think Star's whole "bridezilla" and subsequent greed was her downfall. I'm sure Barbara Walters has already lined up her replacement, but on the off chance she hasn't, why not Aiesha Tyler? She's smart, funny, and well informed. Same with Wanda Sykes

Stephanie Travitsky Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 03:54 PM EST

Correction, Taboo.

Stephanie Travitsky Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 03:53 PM EST

Thank you Chuck. Yeah, you see a little make-up is fine but, there was no need for the Kabuki paint and the Trix colored dress.

All and all me thinks that Rosie refused to take Merediths wheel without Star Jones leaving the show. If Jones was not going to leave willingly then her contract was not going to be renewed. It's too bad though. I mean even though she does not have any taste in stylists she does have brains. Rosie while funny, does not have brains or taste in clothing. If she had brains then Tattoo would have not been a Broadway show. The score was terrific, but the script was pure fromage.

Chuck_A Tue, Jun 27, 2006 at 03:25 PM EST

Goodness. She looks like Gregory Hines in drag!!!
