Who should get Emmy nominations?

Jun 6, 2006, 12:37 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: 'Desperate Housewives', Emmys, Television

153759__comeback_l_1 We're only about a month away from Emmy nomination announcements, and Gold Derby has posted a fascinating rundown of which shows and actors are lobbying for peer recognition. To date, no money's been spent on ''for your consideration'' trade ads for dearly departed favorites such as Arrested Development, Alias, and Everwood (though some of the shows' cast members are getting pushes). Even more puzzling to me, though, is the absence of a push for the awesomely hateful Lance Barber (The Comeback's Paulie G) and Emily Procter, whose Calleigh Duquesne is pretty much the only reason to watch CSI: Miami anymore.

On the flip side, series seeking their initial nominations range from totally deserving (Battlestar Galactica, The Comeback) to downright bizarre (how ironic that the funniest thing about NBC's Teachers is the materialization of its ridonkulous Emmy campaign).

Whatever happens, a nomination for any of the following folks -- Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff or Tricia Helfer, Arrested Development's Will Arnet, or Desperate Housewives' Harriet Sansom Harris -- would make my month. And a nomination for The Comeback's Lisa Kudrow, who dug so deeply and fearlessly into her Valerie Cherish character for 13 sad, funny, and underappreciated episodes -- well, that would make my frackin' year. But, of course, you already knew that. So tell me, who would you like to see get an Emmy nod come July 8? And who shouldn't go seeking it in the first place?

Alison Tue, Apr 24, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

Ciaran Hinds and Tobias Mezies should definately have got EMMY nominations for season 1 of Rome so I would dearly love Menzies to get a best supporting actor nomination for his portray of Brutus in season 2. He gave a masterclass in acting on how to develop a character.

Glover Wed, Jun 21, 2006 at 11:52 PM EST

DRAMA:
(I don't believe "Deadwood" is eligible for this nomination season...)
The Sopranos
House
Veronica Mars
Six Feet Under (I believe it IS eligible for its final season...doubt they'll remember it)

ACTOR:
James Gandolfini, The Sopranos*
Peter Krause, Six Feet Under
Hugh Laurie, House
Vincent D'Onofrio, Law & Order: Criminal Intent (why the hell he doesn't get nominated, I have no idea)

ACTRESS:
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Edie Falco, The Sopranos*
Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars
Frances Conroy, Six Feet Under

SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Joseph R. Gannascoli, The Sopranos* (far and away the best)
Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos

SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Lauren Ambrose, Six Feet Under

Jen Wed, Jun 14, 2006 at 12:27 AM EST

Lauren Graham - long overdue.

This may be her year. Most articles I have read about the Emmys have mentioned the fact that she has been snubbed for the past 6 years.

Lauren Sat, Jun 10, 2006 at 02:24 PM EST

Hey, I'm glad to see the love Battlestar Galactica's getting here period.

If the world were just and fair Tricia Helfer would get a nomination for Gina. She is so much more than eye-candy. Edward James Olmos would be a nice nom but I don't have high hopes. Conversely if Mary McDonnell doesn't get a nomination the Emmys are nothing but a joke.

Oh, and Arrested Development so needs a few more Emmys. Jessica Walter was cheated last year, hopefully she'll go hom with a nice bit of hardware this year.

AtoZ Fri, Jun 9, 2006 at 12:27 PM EST

I can't believe that "Battlestar Gallactica" isn't more loved! Are people just not watching it because it's on the SciFi Channel and they're afraid they'll be considered a geek? Embrace your geekiness and watch this incredibly frackin' addicting show!

Holly Fri, Jun 9, 2006 at 01:57 AM EST

I agree that Battlestar Galactica should get more than a few Emmy nods. It was the best show of the year and Katee Sackhoff, James Callis, Mary McDonnell deserve Emmys.

I also think The Office deserves the best comedy, best teleplay to Steve Carell and best supporting to John Krasinski.

Vanya Thu, Jun 8, 2006 at 01:07 PM EST

Best Actor in a drama- DENIS "The Man" Leary!!

Katie Thu, Jun 8, 2006 at 12:28 AM EST

Deadwood has the best cast on TV, much better than the Sopranos, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Alias, Everwood, and so on. Ian McShane (Al Swearengen) along with Robin Weigert (Clamity Jane), and William Sanderson (E.B. Farnum) are freaking amazing and DESERVE nominations. Heck, there isn't a weak link in that cast.

mike Mendes Thu, Jun 8, 2006 at 12:19 AM EST

Most deserving: The final episode of 6 feet Under was the best final episode EVER! Nominations for:
Francis Conroy, Racher Griffins, Lauren Amobrose(simply amazing in the final 3 episodes, David(can't remember the actors name right now, sorry) and James cromwell.
Actress Comedy:
Mary F**ckin Louise Parker"WEEDS" would make my year.
Megan Mullanly (W and G) Sup Actres Comedy
Drama: Nip/Tuck
6 Feet Under

pepper Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 11:46 PM EST

I recently watched Battlestar Galactica from beginning to end and was blown away. What a show!

Tricia Helfer is particularly good, but I think Mary McDonnell and James Callis give the strongest performances.

I would be happy to see anyone on the BG cast or crew be nominated.

Carola Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 11:01 PM EST

Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars)
Mary Louise Parker (Weeds)
Jaime Pressley (My name is Earl)
Neil Patrick Harris (How I met your mother)

Arrested Development
Veronica Mars
Weeds

matt Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 10:49 PM EST

Ellen Pompeo. Especially for the episode where she broke down in the closet about the older woman dying. Wow. Heartbreaking and understated to a beautiful performance.

Vivi Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 10:08 PM EST

It would be the same people nominated each year and the same people winning each year (esp. since "The Sopranos" is back). And God help me if, Shatner and that other dude from that lawyer show (ABC) win for the 3rd straight year. That would be too much for my small heart to take. I'll probably slit my throat.

Sidenote: Hooray that Conan O'Brien is hosting. Great, great choice. We will be laughing throughout. Trust.

Well, my wish list would be that all of "Grey's Anatomy" cast will be nominated...but that's not gonna happen. Another one is that all of the men in "Lost" will be nominated...but that's only in my dreams. And finally, "Veronica Mars" will recieve the recognition it so deserves...but I might as well start teaching some pigs to fly.

Marco Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 09:27 PM EST

Marcia Cross has to get a nomination...and of course a winning...

Lucy Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 05:56 PM EST

Don't forget Kyra Sedgwick, she is amazing in The Closer. Hugh Larie best drama actor. Best supporting actor and actress Gregory Itzin and Jean Smart. And best drama, CSI (the original)
Commedy, I think Entourage is the best.

Matthew Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 05:00 PM EST

If "The Office" and John Krasinski don't get nods, I will hurt somebody. I would also love to see Jenna Fisher get a nod, but that seems less likely.

Swedish Chef Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 04:21 PM EST

Everwood should get a nod for best drama. It's routinely on critics' list of best shows, but doesn't always get mentioned as a contender. The show's cast is stellar; any one of the performers would be worthy of individual recognition.

Man, I'm going to miss that show.

DMR Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 03:59 PM EST

Battlestar Galactica! Best story, acting, character development AND original musical score on TV, hands down. Sci-fi better not let this one go like they did Farscape. Sigh...

Brianna Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 03:38 PM EST

YES YES YES to Lisa KUDROW! I DO need to see that!

Ellen Pompeo of Grey's Anatomy deserves even just a recognition if not an Emmy, she did grew, acting wise this year ! Chandra Wilson also deserves recognition!

Ariella Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 02:54 PM EST

I have 6 words for you; VERONICA MARS, VERONICA MARS, and, oh yeah, VERONICA MARS. The emmys are a worthless bag of dog feces unless they recognize this show. Every other supposedly underdog show has gotten at least a little Emmy-love before (I'm talking to you Arrested Development. I love you, but you're not exactly the red-headed stepchild you'd like to believe). In conclusion, VERONICA MARS, VERONICA MARS, VERONICA MARS.

pamela Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 01:56 PM EST

I don't know how the best show on TV can always be so overlooked - "24!" It always leaves me surprised, shocked, and dying to see next week! Also, "Prison Break" was a superb show and demanded weekly attention. My last favorite is "Lost", but dang it, I want MORE ANSWERS! I will be breathlessly waiting for these 3 shows next season.

Paulette Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 01:32 PM EST

24 and Kiefer Sutherland should win the Emmy, this was an AMAZING season. Also superb acting by Kim Raver, Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin.

CJ Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 01:32 PM EST

Jennifer Garner should win for the brilliant work she did on the first two seasons of Alias(she was robbed and the past few seasons haven't really been the best), and Scrubs winning best comedy would make my day.

Matt Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 01:14 PM EST

With The Comeback only lasting one season, could they technically move it to the mini-series categories? If so, it would totally dominate those awards!

Lisa M Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 01:00 PM EST

Bleak House was the best thing I saw on tv this year ... it will compete in the Miniseries category.

I'd vote for Gillian Anderson and Charles Dance for best actress and best actor.

kelly Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 12:49 PM EST

law and order: svu! mariska hargitay and chris meloni are both deserving.

BoxOfficeGoddess Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 12:45 PM EST

How could I forget Neil Patrick Harris for Supporting Actor, Comedy?! His Barney treads the line between sweet and sleazy. You want to slap him, yet you're strangely attracted to him. And T.R. Knight deserves a nod in the Supporting Actor drama category for "Grey's".

Mike Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 12:31 PM EST

For the life of me I cannot understand why the comeback was cancelled. That show just got better and better every episode!! So sad.

kevin Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 11:38 AM EST

Why Gilmore Girls never gets noticed is beyond me. This year wasn't half as magical as last year but it still beat 99% of what's on TV for originality, wit and charm. Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop should be nominated along with the writers. Kristen Bell should be nominated for Veronica Mars, too.

James Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 11:36 AM EST

I hope Without A Trace gets recognized over the overblown shows Lost and Grey's Anatomy. Laurie Metcalf deserves to be guest actress nominated ans win. I'm rooting for Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin, and please let there be nothing for junk like Arrested Development, The Shield, Rescue Me, Big Love and Huff.
I'm sick of filth being recognized.

Anyone and everyone from Arrested Development (I hate FOX!) Also, go over to USA and give The 4400 some recognition.

Allie Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 11:09 AM EST

It would make my month to see JENNIFER GARNER actually win the emmy that she's deserved since day one of ALIAS. I'd also love to see VICTOR GARBER get at least a nomination. The season finale is def. his "for you consideration" Which they better effing do for this show as well as ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. I would love to see WILL ARNETT take a win and as much as I love that show and DONALD FAISON, I gotta say that SCRUBS was awesome this year and ZACH BRAFF, JOHN C. and the rest of the cast neeeeed some love this year! I'm also obsessed with GREY'S ANATOMY, but they have years ahead of them to win awards, so I will only be mildly satisfied if/when they are nominated and win.

The whole GA and Scrubs list was my far fetched dream list, sorry I wasn't clear!

Myndi Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 10:23 AM EST

Just give John Krasinski (that finale performance was PERFECTION) and Lauren Graham (long overdue) noms and they can nom anyone else they want!

NC Viewer Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 09:18 AM EST

In my earlier post I regrettably forgot to include some other noteworthy performances...

For "24": Kim Raver (wow, did she spectacularly redeem that character after being so annoying last year), Jean Smart (!!), and Gregory Itzin. (Sorry for some notable snubs, but Kiefer didn't seem to be as into it this season, and, though I appreciated her more this season, I've never been a big fan of Ms. Rajskub's Chloe).

For "Prison Break": Wentworth Miller, Rockmond Dunbar, and Robert Knepper.

As for "Gilmore"'s Kelly Bishop, she's been deserving of the award for YEARS, perhaps even more than Lauren Graham (whom I also wouldn't mind seeing on the big list - I have a feeling this may actually be her year).

Maurine Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:59 AM EST

Robert Knepper, Prison Break, Best Supporting Actor In a Drama

Lauren Graham, Gilmore Girls, Best Actress in a Drama

Manuel Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:56 AM EST

Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls... two shows constantly overlooked by the Emmys (narrow-minded industry relics!).

Graeme Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:55 AM EST

Jennifer Garner
Victor Garber
Lena Olin
Steve Carell
Rainn Wilson
Jenna Fischer
Kim Raver
Jean Smart
Gregory Itzin
Ellen Pompeo
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Matthew Fox
Josh Holloway
L. Scott Caldwell

Steve Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:35 AM EST

Gregory Itzin (the President on "24") should be a lock. And it is disgraceful how "Rescue Me" and Dennis Leary are ignored. It's the best show on TV and Leary's Tommy may be the best character on TV. Wake up! On the flip side, Lisa Kudrow's performance was so full of tics, I thought she had Turret's Syndrome. She was horrible.

Jeff Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:31 AM EST

Best Drama: Lost (though I'd like to see House and Alias nominated)

Best Actor Drama: Hands down, Hugh Laurie

Best Actress Drama: I'd like to see Jennifer Garner finally get the award

Best Supporting Actor Drama: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Naveen Andrews, Terry O'Quin, Victor Garber, or Ron Rifkin...I honestly couldn't pick one above the other from this list

Best Supporting Actress Drama: Eh...perhaps Yoon-jin Kim

I don't watch comedy so I'm not going to bother giving a list for those categories.

Jeff Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:26 AM EST

No way Grey's or Scrubs win that many awards. Most likely winners will be 24 (and their characters), Earl, The Office, Lost and unfortunately Desperate Housewives.

Mike Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:16 AM EST

Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop for their amusing and heart breaking turns on Gilmour Girls, Julia Louis Dreyfus for on New Adventures of Old Christine (I'm a new fan of hers--I hated Seinfeld) and, of course, Marcia Cross. Forget West Wing, Will and Grace (save for Megan Mullaly), and Lost.

Patti Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 08:08 AM EST

Lauren Graham!!!

dan Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 07:57 AM EST

Best drama: Grey's Anatomy
Actor: Patrick Dempsey
Actress: Ellen Pompeo
Supp Actor: TR Knight
Supp Actress: Katherine Heigl
Comedy: Scrubs
Actor: Zach Braff
Actress: Sara Chalke
Supp Actor: Donald Faison
Supp Actress: Judy Reyes

Ok basically, just give the awards to GA and Scrubs.
They can easily fill out the guest acting awards, too.
Between both shows they can fill up the entire guest acting awards (and not in a bad way, a la Will & Grace)

matt Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 07:48 AM EST

Also, TR Knight, no question, should get a nod for his near perfect performances. Ellen Pompeo. Flawed for a reason. Amazing job for both. I could see Grey's making a big splash in all the major categories, even the guest acting. Laurie Metcalf! Natalie Cole! Just to name a few.

matt Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 07:46 AM EST

Katherine Heigl. Hands down, best supporting actress.
Tough competition with: Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson.
Here's a thought too: Kate Walsh for making her character likeable. Tough job, but she did a boffo job week after week.

jason Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 07:29 AM EST

i TOTALLY forgot neil patrick harris in 'how i met your mother'. the FUNNIEST second banana ever (well he's definitely the only reason to watch)

jason Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 07:27 AM EST

'housewives' should run rampant this emmy season. for best actress, all should be nominated once again, but i think the big battle will be between eva and marcia. felicity was wonderful as always, but the other two shined. harriet samson harris DEFINITELY should win. a handful of the guest stars will be up too. maria conchita alonso (sp?) was my favorite. i'm sure the 'will & grace' guest stars will rake in some emmy love as well. of course shatner and spader will be up again, and i'm sure one of the two will go home happy. 'lost' will also prevail with some noms. lookin like an ABC kinda year.

Delon Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 06:26 AM EST

HARRIET SAMSON HARRIS should be nominated and win!
LISA KUDROW was amazing on THE COMEBACK; the series should be nominated too. SCRUBS needs to receive much more love and maybe should win this year! SARAH CHALKE from the show needs to be nominated. Another winner
should be definitely JAMIE PRESSLY; she's just great! ETHAN SUPLEE from MY NAME IS EARL should also be nominated along with the show. GREY'S ANATOMY should win the best drama. CHANDRA WILSON gotta be nominated. SEAN HAYES and MEGAN MULLALY deserve to be nominated once more. Other deserving nominees: JULIE WALTERS, MARCIA CROSS, EVA LONGORIA, MARISKA HARGITAY, JASON LEE, MARY LOUISE PARKER, LAUREN AMBROSE and of course ever superb FELICITY HUFFMAN.

Jakeem Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 04:46 AM EST

Y'all can do lists for days if you want to, but don't be surprised when it's people such as the "Sopranos" team, and James Spader and William Shatner of "Boston Legal" and Tony Shalhoub of "Monk" winning the awards again!

Kali Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 04:42 AM EST

Hey it's so great to see how many times Kristen Bell and Veronica Mars have been mentioned in the posts. Hope this show finally gets recognized even though its 2nd season was definitely inferior to the first.
I'd love to have more diferent shows nominated tis year although I'd settle for House, Prison Break, Grey's and 24 anytime. I am really not sure if Rome will make it but they definitely deserve it.
I can only dream that the Emmys will not go to Lost, Desperate Housewives or West Wing nevermind the hype, these shows had much better seasons before. Although A.A.A. from Lost can get the award just to hear Mr. Eko deliver an acceptance speech.

dj Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 12:10 AM EST

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
and Kristen Bell
both deserve noms.

that became an unintended haiku...i stand by it.

KrisSAY Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 11:19 PM EST

The only way I can respond to this is by show, as there are certain shows I feel VERY strongly about:

I love that some of you remembered to mention Six Feet Under; it is truly one of the BEST shows to ever be on Television. From that show, I would want the following actors to be nominated:

Frances Conroy (Ruth Fisher)
Michael C. Hall (David Fisher)
Lauren Ambrose (Clair Fisher)
Peter Krause (Nate Fisher)
Rachel Griffiths (Brenda Chenowith-Fisher)

So, yes, basically everyone. :)

Lost is another one of my favorites; from that cast I would like:

Terry O'Quinn (John Locke)
Naveen Andrews (Sayid)
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko)
Michael Emerson (Henry Gale)

And, um, HELLOOO, Deadwood:

Ian McShane (Al Swearengen)
Timothy Olyphant (Bullock)
Robin Wiegert (Calamity Jane)
Brad Dourif (Doc Cochran)
Kim Dickens (Joanie Stubbs)
Paula Malcomson (Trixie)

OH, and ROME! I LOVED ROME. The following people shoul d be nominated from that show:

Ciaran Hinds (Caesar)
Kevin McKidd (Vorenus)
Ray Stevenson (Pullo)
Polly Walker (Atia of the Julii)
Lindsay Duncan (Servilia)
Kerry Condon (Octavia)
Tobias Menzies (Brutus)
Max Pirkis (Octavian)

Weeds:

Mary Louise Parker (Nancy Botwin)
Elizabeth Perkins (Celia Hodes)
Justin Kirk (Andy Botwin)
Kevin Nealon (Doug Wilson)

I know all of these people can't be nominated, but if at least a couple of them get nominated, I'll be happy.

Comments? Who am I missing... ?

NC Viewer Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 10:39 PM EST

From "Veronica": Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, and Jason Dohring (no explanation needed for these three).

From "Grey's": Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl (if nothing else than for admirable attempts to redeem the outlandish writing she was handed at the season finale), Isaiah Washington, and even Ellen Pompeo deserves some respect, as she accomplished what the writers wanted her to do, make Meredith despondent and obnoxious out of sheer grief and desperation for the circumstances.

From "Housewives": Marcia Cross (!!!), Eva Longoria (after so many snubs last year, this season, Eva came to play ball), Nicollette Sheridan (she livens up that show with every pissy scowl - and a nod might garner her more screen time next year - which the show needs), and I wouldn't mind seeing a little love for Kirsten Warren (Tom's "mistress") whose hilarious scenes in the finale bode well for a return to form for the Lynette storylines, which were inexcusably redundant this year.

From "Lost": A. A.-A. (you know, Mr. Eko), Maggie Grace (who finally had the chance to make Shannon compelling even when she knew the end was in sight), Jorge Garcia, and Katey Sagal earned the right for a guest actress nod as Locke's flashback girlfriend.

And, hey, if Alyson Hannigan can score a nod for the mainstream "How I Met Your Mother" after so many years of being inexcusably ignored for "Buffy," then by God more power to her!

Personally, I think the Emmy's should come up with a special catagory for "Achievement in the weekly handling of a character-defining prop" so they can recognize David Caruso's amazing ability to put on and take off his sunglasses so dramatically week after week...

Chris McVetta Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 09:49 PM EST

Everybody involved with "Scrubs" and "The Office" better get a nomination!

And "Lost" - even though it slumped in it's sophomore standing in it's second season - deserves an Emmy. Based on the killer first episodes - and the STELLAR season-finale.

Matthew Fox and (yes) Josh Holloway deserve Best Actor nods!

Connie Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 09:31 PM EST

I vote to ban "Will & Grace" from consideration. No more emmys! Also I would dig another "West Wing" surprise victory or perhaps a "Law and Order: SVU" surprise over "Lost." Jake Weber for best supporting actor on a drama for "Medium" and the aforementioned Maria Lark for best supporting actress in a drama also for "Medium." Second to all the Jamie Pressley nods for "My Name is Earl" need a nom for Rainn Wilson for supporting in "The Office" and Steve Carrell for lead...DEFINITELY a WIN for Stephen Colbert and the folks at the "The Colbert Report" Sorry Conan, but you'll only get to host, not take home the win!

Jason Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 09:29 PM EST

I'll be happy as long as Jennifer Garner gets her nomination for Alias. Though I'd also like to see the following:

Kristen Bell-- Veronica Mars
Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffmann, Eva Longoria-- Desperate Housewives
Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson-- Grey's Anatomy
Matthew Fox, Terry O'Quinn--Lost
Treat Williams, Gregory Smith, Chris Pratt, Emily VanCamp-- Everwood

I know the Everwood and Mars nominations are never going to happen, but a boy can dream, can't he?

AND Please some love for the guys of DH especially Doug Savant!

Dave Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 08:26 PM EST

Oh man, and The West Wing, I can't believe I forgot! I absolutely love that show, and even though it a lull in the 4th/5th seasons, the last two, especially this last one, have been great!

Dave Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 08:19 PM EST

Arrested Development, the whole cast
24, Kiefer Sutherland, Gregory Itzin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Jean Smart
Desperate Housewives, Marcia Cross, Harriett Sansom Harris
Grey's Anatomy, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Isiah Washington
Lost, Naveen Andrews, Terry O'Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Harold Perrineau

Hall, Gregory Itzin, Jean Smart, Michael Emerson, Frances Conroy, Chandra Wilson, Kate Walsh, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Jamie Pressley, Marcia Cross, Yujin Kim, Adewale A-A (Lost), Elizabeth Perkins, Jessica Walter, Wil Arnett, and um Lisa Kudrow!

Joe Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 07:18 PM EST

Can we finally get some award love for the series finale of Six Feet Under? The entire cast was brilliant, and the montage at the end is one of the most thrilling things I've ever seen on television.

Carolyn Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 07:18 PM EST

Gregory Itzin or Kiefer Sutherland - 24

Harriet Sansom Harris - Desperate Housewives - they need more of her next season. She is a delight to watch.

Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring or Enrico Colantoni - Veronica Mars

Neil Patrick Harris (he is the show!) or Alyson Hannigan - HIMYM. Since Buffy was snubbed all those years, it would be cool to see Alyson get nominated for this show.

Treat Williams or Tom Amandes- Everwood. I know this will never happen but since they stupidly cancelled this great show - it would be a nice send off.

Cliff Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 07:12 PM EST

Jean Smart, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Edie Falco, James Gandolfini, Juliana Margolies, Lisa Kudrow, Scrubs, The Office, Big Love (especially Chloe Sevigny)

Nancy Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 07:08 PM EST

I have too many choices to list here, but I do have a suggestion on how to make the selection more fair: an actor, actress or series can't win two years in a row. There are a lot of choices and only a few slots to fill, and to have a repeat of John Laroquette winning something like five years in a row for a role that was funny for maybe two seasons is an injustice to all the other performers out there. Plus it would actually force the Emmy panel to make an effort and start checking out the really interesting shows and performances they normally overlook (i.e. Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, etc.)

Martin Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 06:57 PM EST

It's http://www.moviemartin.blogspot.com but you prolly figured that.
And Grey's (especially Ellen P., Chandra W., and Sandra O.). And yes, Gregory Itzin and Jean Smart!

Martin Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 06:54 PM EST

Lisa Kudrow, for sure! Invasion (at least for writing - http://www.moviemartin.blogspot.com). Scrubs, AD, The Closer (especially Kyra). VM. I wouldn't mind a nod for Eva L. and one for sure for Marcia C. Lauren Graham, of course (and finally!). Jessica Walter (for the moist line alone). What about Rome or Extras? (Kate Winslet should get a guest actress nom for it). And Ricky Gervais should get a writing nod to The Simpsons ep he wrote (and to give him props for Extras, which is probably not eligible - only six eps).

Elise Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 06:52 PM EST

Marcia Cross
Chris Meloni
Chandra Wilson
Hugh Laurie
Doug Savant

Kristin Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 06:37 PM EST

Neil Patrick Harris for How I Met Your Mother. By far the most legen...and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is...dary comeback of the year. SUIT UP!

brandonk Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 06:00 PM EST

As long as its not the usual suspects, I think that's a good thing. Not that I think that some of the people who repeatedly win aren't good, far from it, but I think other talent should be recognized too. Spread the wealth! There are tons of good actors on TV who are consistently overlooked, for whatever reasons. Their shows are canceled, they have small parts, they're on cable, whatever.

Telly B Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:21 PM EST

Veronica Mars is the most disgustingly overrated Buffy-Meets-Nancy Drew POS TV on the air.
Crappy acting, crappy writing and crappy direction...and it somehow evokes rants and raves from most online denizens and critics...
The only "awards" it deserves is some MTV ones.

cj Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:21 PM EST

IAN,o my god whoopi gave me nightmares 4 real image if she had gone up against d'nofrio.good call ian.

Danielle Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:17 PM EST

Kristen Bell for Veronica Mars
Enrico Colantoni for Veronica Mars
Will Arnett for Arrested Development
Jessica Walters for Arrested Development
Zach Braff for Scrubs
John C. McGinley for Scrubs
Hugh Laurie for House
Chandra Wilson from Grey's Anatomy, how can we ignore the woman who gave us the va-jay-jay.

Veronica Mars for Best Drama
Scrubs for Best Comedy (this show is so overlooked!)

Rachel Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:10 PM EST

One more... I second the person that said that Mr. Eko should get a nomination. He rocks on "Lost!"

Tasia Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:07 PM EST

BIG LOVE! Better than Grey's Anatomy and Lost put together. Brilliant writing and acting... I wonder why this show is never mentioned on PopWatch or TV Watch yet Apprentice has its own TV watch! Shame on you Michael Slezak. First you shun America's Next Top Model, and now Big Love!? I love to hate you...

Rachel Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 05:06 PM EST

I couldn't stand The Comeback... but would love to see Will Arnett get nominated as well as Jessica Walter.

Other than that, Jamie Pressly, Donald Faison and Rainn Wilson all deserve awards, if not nominations.

Gary Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 04:53 PM EST

Grace Zabriske for Big Love (Bill Paxton's mother).

Sarah Chalke, Zach Braff and John C McGinley for Scrubs.

Jaime Presley for My Name is Earl.

Jenny Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 04:44 PM EST

Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe from 24) must make it this year. She was robbed last year and she was even better this year. She did everything this year. She had heartbreaking emotional scenes (EDGAR!!!), hillarious moments and some action. She rocks!

Cole Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 04:43 PM EST

It shouldn't even be close in the Drama - Supporting Actor race, Gregory Itzin should win, hands down.

And, while I don't think he should win, and perhaps not even nominated, but it is a shame to see the Producers from "Freddie" not even launch a campaign for Brian Austin Green. Granted that show was not good, but Brian Austin Green was, he might have even been great, certainly he was better than even David Silver fans could have expected.

Peggy Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 04:34 PM EST

For best comedy, its a difficult choice between "The Comeback" & "The Office". Maybe one could get writng and the other best comedy (although, the writing IS the show). I'll be tickled pink if they both get well deserved nominations. "Six Feet Under" should dominate every catagory it is eligible for. (HBO-Send out screeners, ASAP). Even though it was a dissapointing season, there's no denying that James Gandolfini acted his ass off! Edie Falco? Not so much. Her emoting just screamed pandering for an award. More deserving is Frances Conroy, brilliant throughout the series's entire run. I may be in the minority, but "Lost" is just silly crap. "The Shield" earns a nomination based on great storylines, not far fetched "Da Vinci Code esq" tripe. Finally, "King of Queens" and "King of the Hill" have been overlooked too many times. They remain strong & witty shows, in spite of their age.

Ian Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 04:07 PM EST

Look, I like 'Battlestar Galactica' very much and am gladdened by its critical success and hope its cast does get more accolades, but Katee Sackhoff for an Emmy nomination? Absolutely not. The woman is simply not a compelling actress, unable to believably play tough, wounded, playful or cute and thus unable to make what is a complicated character on paper the same onscreen.

Beyond this though, I'd say the writers and casts of 'The Office,' 'Scrubs,' 'Arrested Development,' 'Malcolm in the Middle' and 'My Name Is Earl' deserve attention for the splendid year of (single-camera) comedy we've had this year.

Ropey as it was, I don't think 'Six Feet Under' should be deprived of some acting nominations, particularly for Frances Conroy and Lauren Ambrose.

'Boston Legal' has numerous flashy guest star turns which deserve to get attention from Jayne Brook to Betty White to Michael J. Fox.

'Veronica Mars' deserves to be the only show outside of a 'Star Trek' to get the late-UPN multiple Emmy nods.

'Law & Order: SVU' deserves nothing for being the most overrated, underwritten and ridiculous show on network TV. Whoopi Goldberg, however, deserves a nod for playing such a juicy villain on 'Criminal Intent.'

Laura Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 03:50 PM EST

The Office and Arrested Development for Best Comedy

John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Steve Carrell, and Jenna Fischer for their brilliant, subtle, real yet hilarious work on The Office.

Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Jessica Walter for their brilliant work on Arrested Development - and Jason Bateman should definitely WIN this year, after he was robbed last year when they gave it to Tony Shaloub yet again.

Hugh Laurie for his brilliant work on House - again, was robbed last year by another repeat winner, and should definitely WIN this year.

Best Drama: Lost, Everwood, House, Prison Break, and the underappreciated but brilliant ROME.

Speaking of, Kevin Mckidd, Ray Stevenson, Polly Walker, and Max Pirkis for their brilliant work on Rome.

Gregory Itzin, Jean Smart, and Mary Lynn Rajskub (sp?) for their brilliance on 24.

Matthew Fox and Mr. Eko from Lost, with Michael Emerson (aka Fake Henry Gale) being nominated in supporting or guest star.

John C. McGinley on Scrubs - looooong overdue.
Brian Cranston on Malcolm in the Middle - forgotten, but still brilliant.

Anthony Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 03:36 PM EST

Arrested Development, The Office & Scrubs are all deserving of Emmys. Whether it's actors or otherwise -- I would also be extremely happy with Everybody Hates Chris getting a nod for something. That show is so great.

Kate Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 03:32 PM EST

Battlestar Gallactica is one of the best shows on the air and deserves some praise. Scrubs cast is fantastic. House is a good show too.

BoxOfficeGoddess Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 03:24 PM EST

I would love it if "Arrested Development" got some love, especially Jessica Walters (she was totally robbed last year by Doris Roberts). I'd also like to see Jaime Pressley get a nod for "Earl." Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson should get nods for "Grey's" (and I'd love to see Wilson win and dedicate the award to her va-jay-jay!).

It was also a strong season of "CSI", especially the episode "A Bullet Runs Through It" and I'd love to see some of the cast members nominated, especially Paul Guillfoile (Capt. Brass). "CSI" gets overlooked because it's so popular but it really is a great show. Also, a supporting actor drama nod for Harry Dean Stanton from "Big Love" would be great.

Geno Tue, Jun 6, 2006 at 03:16 PM EST

I also agree with the "Six Feet Under" mentions. One of the best casts & shows ever. Ever!!
