This may wind up being my last blog item of the afternoon, seeing that as soon as I finish posting it, I've got to shut my office door and engage in a little bit of light, Da Vinci Code-style corporal mortification. And what sin would require such a rousing bout of self-abuse, you might ask? Well, earlier this afternoon, I got my first earful of Christina Aguilera's new single, ''Ain't No Other Man,'' (check it out here) and my response was one of only mild enthusiasm, something along the lines of ''Hey, that's pretty good.''
Clearly, though, after two solid hours of repeated listening, I've seen the error of my ways: Xtina 2006 is fabulous, funky, retro horn-y, and in great voice, delivering what should be an off-kilter kick to the keister of rote top-40 radio. Who knows, if ''Ain't No Other Man'' makes it big, maybe America can find room on the charts for Lina, a fellow retro-R&B diva with one foot in the '20s? Oh Xtina, can you find it in your heart to forgive me?
And what about you, PopWatchers, do you think I deserve the cilice? Holla!
