'Narnia' sequel pushed back to 2008

The reason? Well, Columbia's fantasy epic The Water Horse just took the Dec. 8, 2007 slot. Both are produced by Walden Media, and the holiday season ain't big enough for a water horse and a Jesus lion -- so the Jesus lion turned the other cheek and moved to summer. Also, the Narnia team supposedly wants more time to perfect the centerpiece CGI creation of Caspian: valiant talking rat Reepicheep. (Nobody wants to see snarky "Reepi-cheap" headlines in certain pun-prone magazines.)

In any event, Walden wins. In fact, this shows you just how much pull the production company has. Imagine telling Disney: "December '07? Oh, that's not good for us. We'd like to release a rival movie with a rival studio that week. How's summer? Is summer good for you?"

Upside: This will also give Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell a extra few months to assemble a "Lazy Sunday" sequel -- more than enough time to teach a rat to rap.

Donna, I completely agree.

I'm glad the sequel is delayed. I hope it never gets made. Every copy of the first one, not to mention every copy of those horrible books, needs to be burned. It shocks me how little taste people have in movies anymore. It's like moviegoers have become little beavers. Wiggle something shiny and they come running.

Note to nathan: Read the book!

The Lazy Sunday video short was probably the best thing about the whole Narnia craze. I was so disappointed in that movie, I just find the entire premise to be stupid. They walk in the closet and poof! they're in another world, no explanation whatsoever, and next thing you know, there's some creepy goatboy (with no shirt on)taking a little girl to his apartment. Oh yeah, and Santa Claus is in the movie, just in case it wasn't quite lame enough yet. I'd be more interested in seeing Elizabethtown 2 than Narnia 2.
