Kim Basinger on '24'? Yes! Who else?

171522__kim_lSo the New York Post is reporting the dubious news that Oscar winner Kim Basinger (pictured) so enjoyed working with Kiefer Sutherland on The Sentinel (in theaters today) that she'll be joining the cast of 24 next season. Hmm...

At first I thought: No way. But look at the show's rep for attracting guest stars and it gives you pause. Among the fine actors who've stopped by Jack Bauer's House of Horrors for a few hours are: Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Lost's Daniel Dae Kim, Sara Gilbert, Sean Astin, and Julian Sands. So why not Kim Basinger? I mean, she said yes to My Stepmother Is an Alien. If the teaser for next week's ep holds true, it's looking like Jean Smart's days are numbered, so they'll be needing another hysterical Southern lady to keep the prez company. Bingo! Get me Basinger!

So it made us wonder: Who else would you like to see stop by the ol' CTU? I checked in with resident 24 expert Scott Brown (isn't Brownie doing a good job?), and he saw my casting challenge and raised it. "Let's just use people who have co-starred in movies with Kiefer," he enthused. He's very enthusiastic.

Um, okay...

-Donald Sutherland (A Time to Kill) as the officious Jack Bauer Sr., a.k.a. Daddy Jack, who's itching to come out of retirement

-Flatliners' Kevin Bacon as Jack's wise-cracking wingman

-Fellow Young Guns star Emilio Estevez as the turncoat bad guy you'd least suspect

-Phoebe Cates, who costarred in Bright Lights, Big City, as yet another doomed love interest for Jack

-And, of course, both Coreys (Haim and Feldman, of The Lost Boys) as Chloe's bumbling, genius techie whipping boys

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Sam Jackson definately, i mean, that guy's in everying

Wil Wheaton (Stand By Me) would be an excellent smarmy politician. Sally Field (Eye for an Eye) and Jeff Bridges (the Vanishing) would be awesome too, possibly as the future Mr. and Mrs. President. After hopefully Logan is assassinated.

William Hurt ("Dark City") was a terrific villain in "History of Violence". But here I think he'd fit much better into the White House staff. Actually, all three of Keifer's co-stars from "Dark City" could work. Rufus Sewell, portrayer of many a bad dude, could play a potential terrorist who turns out to be loyal to the US. Jennifer Connelly would make a much more credilbe assassin than Jenny Schecter--sorry, Mia Kershner. By the way, there were exactly 24 postings here when I hit the story. Hee hee!

OH, and then we should have 50 Cent on the show as an agent posing as a rapper posing a pimp. He could get shot 12 more times, sew up his wounds with a hidden stash of medical supplies, and then just keep killing people. Kind of like um Rambo meets 24.

Jennifer Sat, Apr 22, 2006 at 03:54 PM EST

OMG! Definitely bring the two Coreys as the wise cracking nerds who can crack codes and then do tons of blow in their spare time. Just as long as we can get Corey Feldman to do this wearing his Michael Jackson getup, this would be a winner.

linda Sat, Apr 22, 2006 at 03:02 PM EST

Bill Gates as Chloe's dad and brain behind her talent

David Sat, Apr 22, 2006 at 02:12 PM EST

How about Sally Field (Eye for an Eye)?! That'd be nuts.

How come it's not Six Degrees of Kiefer Southerland? The Donald Sutherland idea is a great one. But the idea of Julia Roberts as a KGB agent is good too. She could pose as the real Julia Roberts who is actually a KGB agent. And the whole thing would be part of Oceans 14.

Jakeem Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 03:28 PM EST

How about Jennifer Connelly? They could even do a scene in which she walks out to talk to Jack on a pier!

Suz Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 03:22 PM EST

Noah Wylie (A Few Good Men) as a clueless civilian caught in the crossfire.

Kevin Pollack (also A Few Good Men) as the latest doomed chief of CTU.

Oliver Platt (3 Musketeers) as a presidential advisor.

Laura Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 03:05 PM EST

Karl Urban would be awesome - as a bad guy or a good guy! Either way, he'd just be bad-a**!

And if you're going to keep the Lord of the Rings theme going (what with Astin and Urban), then how about bringing in Billy Boyd as a lovable scottish tech-nerd, who could maybe be a love interest for Chloe! What with his cheery optimism, and her sour pessimism, it would be opposites attract! Right? Anyone? Bueller?

James Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 01:09 PM EST

I think Lucy Liu or Susan Sarandon would make terrific
villainesses on 24. I would like them to be in a plot involvng an all female terrorist organization determine to take the new presidency thanks to the ghost of Logan's presidency with Kim Bauer being brainwashed against her dad.

Brody Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 12:54 PM EST

I was thinking a few weeks ago about how much I would like to see Kevin Bacon on this show. But I was thinking a villian who has a personal history with Jack.

Boo Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 12:46 PM EST

I think the Kevin Bacon idea would be steeler. But I think (if they want to arch a story for three years)they bring in Kevin Spacey (LA Confidential), Michael Wincot (3 Musketairs) or Alan Rickman (3 Musketairs).

Those three would be great for villians or tratiors. Spacey's Kiser Soza, Wincot in the Crow and Rickman as Hans Gruber. Not saying to play those guys but they proved that they were GREAT bad guys. Who wouldn't have wanted to see Spacey as President Logan?

shy Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 12:29 PM EST

I think Samuel L. Jackson should guest star on 24. That would be awesome!!!!

johnathan Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 10:09 AM EST

awesome awesome awesome. Kim Basinger is such a great actress, she's gonna KILL on this show. I can't wait.

Dave Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 09:27 AM EST

Hey, how about Daryl Hannah, Molly Ringwald, and Melinda Dillon from "Cowboy Up" (!) as a bad-ass gang of female villains out to subvert the dominant male paradigm! Now that would be fun.

Also, Katie Holmes was in "Phone Booth," so we could have Katie, Tommy, and Suri as a wealthy, powerful, slightly crazy family that is targeted by terrorists because of nefarious bad acts in the past. And Jack is hired to protect them (having been finally fired and banned from all public service after breaking every CTU protocol ever...)

Bernard Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 09:02 AM EST

I think I must be the only person in America who has grown annoyed and tired with the propensity for entertainment outlets and journalists to do the following: news story or rumor comes out, immediately followed by "Who do you think should be recast/join the show/bite the dust next?" type of "poll". I know these things are supposed to be fun for the readers or poll takers, but it's just becoming an awfully lazy and cliche way of doing business.

Joel Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 08:58 AM EST

I think they should get Jeff Goldblum in there somewhere, villian or good guy.

Karl Urban would be awesome as well.

Joe C Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 08:19 AM EST

Matt Leblanc. Now that he's out of work, he could play Chloe's top assistant next year: Picture Jack coming up to him and Joey saying: 'Hey, Jack, how YOU doin'?????

Rin Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 08:12 AM EST

Sorry...Movie for River..."Stand by Me"

Rin Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 08:08 AM EST

Well...from "Promised Land"(1988)Meg Ryan playing the same grugged up, schizo freak parade she played then, just now she would return as Jacks' young teenage love w/ their young love child in-tow and of course all this would not fit into his busy schedule and as she is in constent need of a fix she is ripe for compromise.(of course her hot pink her gives her away to all the would be no gooders)
Ok now for my Second movie I have a 2-fer. "At Close Range"(1986) We could get Christopher Walken and Sean Penn. Pair them up and you would have more then Jack could handle in 48 hrs let alone 24.
And last but least if there truely were miracles I would wish for him a trainee from a movie goin' back to 1986 again. A kid w/cool, w/all the understated mystery that Jack has, steamy under currents of more to come, intuition, a crooked smile and wise ass commients just to piss Jack off etc. etc....you get the idea. Well as I said if there were miracles that young fiesty, crazy-mad, feirce parnter would be...River Pheonix. That would be cool man, really cool.

pn Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 07:19 AM EST

Sandar Bullock (A Time to kill)....please please please i am sure 90% of you will love to see her interrogated and tortured for puttings us through Speed2 , Divine secrets of the Ya Ya sisterhood, Hope floats and almost evry other crap she tries to pass of as entertainment. I could see Jack now pointing his gun at her shouting "Why Sandra why did you do this to us...tell me now!!!" after no response from Sandra, Jack shoots her in the leg. AHHHHH now that's just good tv folks.

Chris McVetta Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 07:09 AM EST

Julia Roberts as a former KGB agent from Jack's "past" - It could be like a "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" kind of thing, just with a stopwatch!

pn Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 07:09 AM EST

Donald Sutherland definitely....so both of them could team up as father and son and torture all members of the Academy of Motion Pictures for not giving Daddy Sutherland his overdue Oscar yet, much less one nomination.

Brad Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 07:01 AM EST

Right after I posted I thought of some more good ones:
Reese Witherspoon from "Freeway".
Tom Cruise from "A Few Good Men", then Keifer could give us what we would all like to see. Jack Bauer torturing Tom until he stops talking about Scientology.

Brad Fri, Apr 21, 2006 at 06:49 AM EST

How about Colin Farrell from "Phone Booth" or whatever it was called? But not as a bad guy, he proved he can't do that in Daredevil.
Or even better Jack Nicholson who was in "A few Good Men" with him?
