Which music isn't download-able?

Seems like we are getting another round of this same discussion now that there is major money being made on video games that feature rock tracks (Guitar Hero and Rock Band with their huge soundtracks and downloadable tracks). While Radio Head and Metallica have opened up, and mainstays like the Rolling Stones have been in EVERY VERSION of Guitar Hero, we still don't have the Beatles or Led Zeplin, and it's not like we can pop in a CD and burn it, or we would have by now.

Nowadays, most of the time the only way I'll buy music is through a website. I"m sick of spending the money for a CD to find half the songs on the CD suck and they only have a couple good songs. So then I pay $13 for two songs that I like. I will say that some of the greatest hits CD's aren't bad, but mostly if an artist isn't online, then they probably aren't getting my money.

There is some lessen known 60s artists they have been compiled by UK specialitity labels that I'd like to be able to download as buying those imports can add up.

However, I would never buy them from one of the DRM based music stores like iTunes. eMusic which I've been a member of since 2001 sells much lower cost DRM free MP3s, but for fairily obvious reasons do not carry any of the major labels. eMusic recently added titles from Cherry Red from the UK, but some of their downloadable comps only contain some of the tracks. Probably because someone else owns the rights to them the US.

Personally compared to what CDs cost new and what they charge for them iTunes, etc I would rather buy the physical media. The CD is long away from being dead...

If one is looking for Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc.. head over to Yourmusic.com where you can get CDs for $5.99 including shipping. It's essentially the BMG CD club, execpt there is none of get 12 for 1 nonsense to deal with. Kinda like Netflix cue up a bunch of CDs and get one each month...

Egotistical bands that insist that their albums be sold as a whole don't deserve my money. They allow their singles to be played on the radio, don't they.

AC/DC, Led Zep, Garth Brooks, and The Steve Miller Band. Some of the SMB songs are on iTunes, but main draws like The Joker are not available. It's obvious they want you to buy the entire album. As for the other three, they should release their music as well. It would seem they would make a lot more money that way. If I had to pay $1.99 for each song instead of $.99 I would.

There are two songs I can't find anywehere - The Safety Dance and Bad Reputation (the original Joan Jett/Waitresses version). Can Michael & Alanna shed some light on these two hold-outs? I'm doubting the album excuse isn't the reason....

Umm let's see...I don't like any of those artists anyway and I don't use any of those digital outlets cause they suck!! I download music for FREE, especially now that the RIAA has decided to act like a bunch of idiots. Record companies got greedy, they got what deserved, and I refuse to make rich people any richer. Call it dishonest, call it stealing, call it whatever, but they're not getting my money.

I'm a huge Beatles and Radiohead fan, but I understand why, at least to me, wouldn't make much sense to purchase songs from those two bands: Radiohead and Beatles albums are supposed to be consumed as a whole and not by parts. Listening to "A Day in the Life" ending Sgt. Pepper's makes perfect sense. Listening to it by itself, still great, but it doesn't have as much meaning.

I am a huge music fan and have contributed possibly thousands of dollars to the industry. No genre has illuded my list of loves. However, as great as the legal downloads are, I think a major issue needs to be addressed.

The completely revolting price of CD's.

I believe the record exec's of this world need to evaulate just how much the money means to them. The MP3 makers need to as well.

I haven't been able to afford a CD or an Ipod because the govenment is busy adding to my debts with student loans.

Many like me, just dont have the money to enjoy the one thing that can (in many ways) bring together any gender, race, sexual preference or religion.

It's sad to see...

I do seem to get why artists like them hold out on being a part of music downloading. Nearly all of those artists are considered "album-artists" and do not wish to see their albums being mashed in with their other tracks just because they are more well-known. If consumers have to buy the whole album, they wouldn't since to them it defeats the point of music downloading. However, I am more than willing to buy any one of those artist's whole album since I truly love them and because the only music stores around me hold what is on mainsteam radio.

I have been wanting to download Led Zeppelin very much. I own all of Metallica's albums up to Reload (they started to suck hardcore so I stopped paying), but they are in a box in storage from when I moved out of my parents house to go to college. I haven't been able to find them anywhere and there are some songs I just need to listen to! I wanted to purchase them on iTunes but there was no Metallica to be had. Very sad for me. Glad to hear that'll be changing soon though! I was also interested in downloading some of the Beatles stuff but they aren't available either. That really shocked me because they are such a big famous band (like Led Zeppelin). Darn, that "I wanna hold your hand" is now stuck in my head! I love that song.
