95544__norah_l I know, I know -- you're still trying to catch those last few nominated movies so you can ace your Oscar pool. You don't have time to think about films that are months, possibly years away from release. Nevertheless:

-In the footsteps of Jewel, Jessica Simpson, and Eminem, songbird Norah Jones (pictured) is looking to make the leap from the Billboard charts to the silver screen; she's reportedly set to appear in My Blueberry Nights, the English-language directorial debut from Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai (In the Mood for Love).

-Michael Bay is resurrecting the Friday the 13th series. As if Jason could ever die.

-A little something for future Oscar consideration? Variety says Ridley Scott is in talks to direct Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in American Gangster, about a criminal who hoped to sneak heroin into the U.S. in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam.

-Eddie Murphy will headline Starship Dave, about a crew of pocket-sized aliens trying to rescue their planet.

-According to Variety, Gael Garcia Bernal has signed on to O Pasado (The Past), based on an Argentine novel about a man whose ex gets a little stalkerrific for his taste.

-Ever wonder why Battlestar Galactica hottie Katee Sackhoff's not a big-time movie star? Well, it looks like she'll get her shot in White Noise 2: The Light, alongside Serenity's Nathan Fillion.

-Finally, another comic book may be coming to the big screen, as Universal has optioned Christian Gossett's mystical Soviet war epic The Red Star, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"American Gangster" sounds fantastic. Certainly better than the last Washington-Crowe teaming, "Virtuosity"! (Though Sid 6.7 does have his moments!)

American Gangster...the only one of the bunch I'd pay to see.

The others...blech..not even worth renting them. No wonder movie attendance is down.

If Katee Sackhoff, my beloved Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica thinks she can take the movie world by storm by starring in the sequel to a crummy Michael Keaton "horror" movie, she's obviously mistaken. Don't do it, Katee! Get out of it! And take Nate Fillion with you!

shouldn't eddie murphy be staying away from space? the adventures of pluto nash anyone??!?

I have to say that I am eagerly awaiting "American Gangster" that will definitely be worth the $15 plus a bag of sour patch kids. However...Eddie, sorry pal but it aint gonna happen, you'd be better off with another Dr. Dolittle movie, or go find your boy Nick Noltie and remake a 48hrs flick. I can't see "White Noise 2" doing much considering the first one was mediocre, though I am a Keaton fan. I will be interested to see how the "Red Star" plays out but ultimately I think it will fall by the waist side like so many new comic films.

As for Norah, she makes a good album, and I will not be quick to throw her to the wolves yet. Still, she has a tough task ahead of her going from pop to silver screen. If she does well she will join an elite group...if not, she'll be bumping elbows with Mariah (Glitter), Ja Rule (Fast & Furious 2), & every movie Queen Latifa ever made!

Nora Jones is overrated.

Anything Gael Garcia Burnal is in is very good. Is the ex Diego Luna?

Ed Tue, Feb 14, 2006 at 03:02 PM EST

yes, we meant English-speaking directorial debut -- sorry about that!

Jon Tue, Feb 14, 2006 at 01:32 PM EST

Can't someone get Eddie Murphy a new agent? Maybe hook him up with Dennis Quaid's people? Dude needs a serious mid-life script rehab.

India Tue, Feb 14, 2006 at 12:04 PM EST

I'd vote for O Pasado...Gale is awesome.

Kevin Tue, Feb 14, 2006 at 11:46 AM EST

How would that be Wong Kar-Wai's directorial debut? Don't you mean "English-speaking directorial debut"?
