154356__mariahjlo_l For most of this millennium, Jennifer Lopez (at right) had the upper hand in her eternal rivalry with fellow Tommy Mottola-groomed diva Mariah Carey (at left). That ended this year when Carey finally emerged from her post-Glitter slump with The Emancipation of Mimi, which sold 4.1 million copies, about six times as many as J. Lo's March release Rebirth. (Mimi also earned Carey eight Grammy nods this morning, while Lopez didn't earn any.) In fact, Carey's album is the No. 2-selling CD of the year to date, surpassed only by 50 Cent's The Massacre (4.8 million sold). Such are the details revealed in a music winners-and-losers article by Michael Endelman and Raymond Fiore in the forthcoming issue of EW.

Poor Mariah. Her relationship going bust with Derek Jeter really sent her in a tailspin. At least she has an awesome voice. Now, if only she would record some decent listenable music. Personally, I think the both suck.

Mariah has an okay voice. She was okay in 1990, but then she just got weird with her breakdown, and she started redoing other people's songs with her own lyrics ("Gangster of Love" anyone?). I don't know, she's just really played out.

J-Lo is the Paula Abdul of the late 90's. "If You Had My Love" pretty much IS "Straight Up". And no one is interested in hearing how a girl that drives around in a Bentley is still "street" - a la "Jenny From The Block".

Honestly, they are interchangeable to me. Which is to say that they both are a waste of my time. They should both just go away.

Not a hard decision guys by far but in my opinion first of all I see know comparison what-so-ever! I mean no offense nor disrespect toward J-Lo, but let's be realistic, this is just our opinions and I do like some of J. Lo's tracks but as powerful a DIVA that has achieved as many accomplishments and have the biggest comeback in history by re-inviting the fans along with knew, and re-inventing themselves in my eyes is only possible from such a gifted beautiful soul that lives her music just like alot of her song's say she don't stop, of course yall know I am meaning MIMI, but anyway I am a huge fan and will never stop looking forward for the new excitement Mariah has to bring to our music world. - works at maintaning a CLEAN image and is a great ROLE MODEL for many
- more successful internationally

- sells out a 4100-seat theatre in VEGAS 5 nights a week
- as achieved greater record sales than MARIAH, hence the DIAMOND WORLD MUSIC AWARD

WHITNEY:
- can sing as well as MARIAH and CELINE
- too bad she married BOBBY
- too bad about the REHAB (which does not seem to be working)

CHRISTINA:
- great voice
- just a slut, generally

BRITNEY:
- great looking
- what are you doing with a MIC? oh yeah, LYPSYNCHING

MADONNA:
- is able to reinvent herself
- only has about 1 to 2 successful singles per album

CELINE is the best! has a voice, a family, a husband, a successful show in VEGAS that was a huge gamble, and an international career... she's also HUMBLE and GENEROUS... i respect her for speaking her mind on CNN regarding the NEW ORLEANS disaster and being among the first to donate 1 million dollars to relief efforts...

Mariah is extremely talented and she even made the Guiniess book of world records for hitting the highest tone in history. But she insists on making half-lameish songs så she loses points there. The good songs she makes, prove she has gold in her throat, though.

Compared to J.Lo, kicks all ass. I have full respect for Jen, she can dance and all, but her songs are practically all the same, and she is not very renewable.

Hey! I think were losing the point here ok so whose side are you on? Both Mariah and J.Lo are stars here, something clearly everyone can't be, So when you try to go on a side please watch what you say, some of these comments are very hurtful and shouldn't be expressed in words, did you ever think about the other side of the spectrum and see how would you feel if you were told some of these comments you people are expressing. But anyways let me get to my point i just wanted to get that out of the way. So who do i choose, ok Mariah has that undistinctable talent of voice that draws chills down my spine everytime she belts out, and Jennifer Lopez is just exciting and undeniably likable at whatever she does in her carreer and just one great personlity and did i mention a Style savy ICON in her Generation. Oh one more thing the pressure these souls have is an immense one to there selves and responsiblities they have to keep to others. this is a very hard decision for me becuase i LOVE both of them so much and never really had one better than the other on top of the pettlestow like that, but Im oh so very sorry J.LO, MARIAH you are my reigning Queen and im sure everyone will agree with me on this. Her Persona and Talent is too much to express in words. So i end there!!

J-LO (God, how pathetic that ‘name’ is for a 35 year old woman) is a classless, moronic ass of a human being. These ‘celebrities’ (and I use that term loosely when referring to “J Lo”) have a responsibility to be somewhat informed as to what they portray and sell, among other things. First of all Mariah is a too big talent with oversized saggy boobs. She could sing 5 yrs ago and was way better musically thewn J.lo 5 yrs ago. But I believe all those drugs killed her voice. Mariahs net worth is also nothing on J.lo. Jen is worth 50 bill now Mariah shur aint worth that. Jen is the richest female in the biz and paved the way for Latino music. Im a die-hard fan of J.los. And all you people saying Jen cant sing need to get a life. I agree that she has not showed her full potentail , but if you wanna her her sing good then you need to listen to the J.lo album No.10 a song called (dance with me) its a phat song and shows Jens talent in singing. Everyone knows, including J-Blow, that it's not even a contest. J-Blow hasn't and will never be in the same catagory as Mariah!! Jennifer Lopez cannot sing, dance or act! She got famous the same way Brittney Spears and others with no talent did, by entertaining and making people THINK she had talent. But if you've ever heard her sing live, and it's bad for your ears, she cannot hold a note to save her life. Mariah, on the other hand, which I have heard in person, sounds just like she does on her CDs b/c she does not need any of that backround music or vocals to help her sound better. I could go on and on how Mariah is in a class of her own but the number of album sales, number one hits and fan base should be enough proof!

First, I do want to give J.LO her props, she's beautiful, can really dance, has great style, and is a great actor...but she's NO Mariah Carey. I respect talent and beauty when I see it, I'm not a hater...but when compared to Ms. Mariah there is no comparison. THey are on totally different levels. This is not really a fair question though, it should be someone more @ Mariah's level of singing, even though know one compares.. Mariah!!! The fact that people even consider j,lo soft weak voice is beyond me? Also people even consider madonna as up there...... yes an entertainer but a great singer? have you heard the new album? It might as well be cher!!!
j,lo is a fab actress, she should stick with that.
Mariah as an actress? .... well glitter was poor, but wise girls was pretty good.
As for singing? Mariah is totally on fire baby!!!

J-LO CAN'T COMPETE WITH MARIAH CAREY!!!!!!

There is no comparison between the no. 1 selling female artist of all time and J-Lo. Mariah is a better singer, writes better songs, has been doing this thing called the music business for more than 15 years, and is not just a product, but a true aritst with real vocal talents. J-Lo just cannot compare to that.

Not even sure why anyone wished to compare the two in the first place. But I'll play along and give my views anyway......

Mariah has always had and always will have the greatest vocal talent of them all. Whether you like her musical style or not, there's no denying her vocal abilities. She writes her own music and is dynamite singing live. Those who claim that she can't sing live anymore (or never could), are flat out wrong. I saw her perform on Good Morning America (I was there) in April when her latest album came out. She did 5 songs and held every note perfectly.

Sure, she doesn't have a clothing line, a perfume line, or other business. That's because she chooses to focus on what she does best: sing. There are some who want it all - Mariah's just happy to be singing and creating music. It's not about making money for her....and she's grateful for her success.

For those who can come up with nothing better than nose jobs and boob jobs and butt jobs as a reason for choosing one over the other..... Accusations involving plastic surgery have no place here. It has nothing to do with abilities. And we'll probably never know anyways.

The queen of music is and will always be Mariah. On talent alone, she trumps them all. When it comes to beauy (both inside and out), there's no comparison.
