Who should play Aquaman?

95129__aquaman_lThe WB has confirmed last week's rumors of an Aquaman spinoff from Smallville. The character will not be played by Alan Ritchson, who played him on the Oct. 20 episode. As real-life Vinny Chases start calling their agents, I'm sure PopWatch readers will have plenty of suggestions as to who should play the scaly superhero. My suggestion: Eric Christian Olsen. He's got the look, he needs to be liberated from the teen-film ghetto (The Hot Chick, Dumb and Dumberer, Not Another Teen Movie), and he's not such a huge name that he wouldn't commit to a few years on a series. And cast Patrick Duffy (who, before Dallas, was The Man From Atlantis) as his dad.
Your casting choices?

Demon McGee Wed, Aug 2, 2006 at 12:59 PM EST

Well after reading some of these posted reports- i feel that most of you people are idiots, truely you misunderstood the sea king- lame?! not!!! how would you feel if your own brother tried to kill you, steal your wife, attempt to murder your child then try to replace you as the king and ruler of your government????

Demon McGee Wed, Aug 2, 2006 at 11:40 AM EST

I Have only two choices- one i don't know his name, but i feel would be the better person to play the sea king for he looks just like him- the guy who played Dr. Frankenstien in mary shelly's frankenstien; the other i feel would be just as spectacular, Matthew McConaughey. he is a brilliant actor with some very well acted parts under his belt- an the sea king is a very deep psycological role, he seemed almost insane in the 70's and 80's. lol. but anyway those are my choices- like they really matter. bye mr. guy.

Paul Walker is an idiot Sat, May 27, 2006 at 10:35 AM EST

paul walker as aquaman?! hahaha. he's so old, he can't capture the teenage demogrpahic! he's like 30 years old! he doesnt have the body, he doesnt have the acting skills, he doesnt look good, and he's an idiot. i'll rather have Vin Diesel play aquaman than him, if you are such a fast n furious fan. haha

lol Wed, Mar 8, 2006 at 04:48 PM EST

paul walker is a good choice

shane Wed, Mar 8, 2006 at 04:46 PM EST

i think paul walker would be best for aquaman he would be great for sipderan aswell

holyfan Thu, Feb 9, 2006 at 05:56 PM EST

I think that they are going to lose their target audience by not allowing Ritchson to reprise the role. He is the reason that the show is going to take off. He did great as Aquaman, they should give him a shot. The girls would love to watch him!! Just think about it.

Kelly Humphrey Sun, Dec 11, 2005 at 03:51 AM EST

I don't understand why they're not even considering Alan Ritchson for the role. After all, it was his appearance on Smallville that caused all the buzz about an Aquaman spinoff. Sure, his acting can use some work, but lots of good actors have improved with age. Give him a chance! I know I'd watch.

Jeff Thu, Dec 1, 2005 at 03:36 PM EST

Let me start by saying that an Aquaman spin-off is the worst idea I've ever heard. Aquaman is the lamest hero ever. I mean, what super hero is only tough in the water? That's just boring. I don't see this show having much of a storyline to keep it going for too many episodes, which will lead to an early cancellation. Nobody will watch this show. I mean, when you and your friends used to play super hero, how many of you wanted to be Aquaman!? But, since it must be done, I think that Ian Somerhalder would be the way to go. Although, if you know Lost like I do, even though he is dead, they probably still need him to appear in a few episodes. Those on Lost never stay lost for too long.

Sharlene Sun, Nov 27, 2005 at 09:30 PM EST

I think they should just have Alan Ritchson stay as Aquaman. I mean you can't have a person come on a show and then make a whole show about him and have it be a totally different actor, that's just retarded. Plus Alan Ritchson was extremely hott. i don't think they should have any of the people mentioned here because they need a 'blonde extremely gorgeous guy in his early 20's with an amazing swimmers body', not some guy with dark brown hair skinny in his late 20's/early 30's and ok looking.

CAPS Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 05:06 PM EST

ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHO SHOULD PLAY A YOUNG BRUCE WAYNE TO GUESS STAR ON SMALLVILLE AND THEN HAVE MAYBE A SPINOFF SERIES POST THEM HERE OR E-MAIL ME.

CAPS Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 05:02 PM EST

SORRY I MENT I AGREE WITH SAM NOT PATRICIA ABOUT THE BATMAN SERIES.

CAPS Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 03:16 PM EST

I DONT THINK THEY SHOULD USE ERIC CHRISTIAN FOR AQUAMAN BECAUSE HE ALREADY DID AN EPISODE OF SMALLVILLE. AND SO DID SHAWN ASHMORE SO THEY SHOULDN'T USE IS TWIN BROTHER.
I AGREE WITH PATRICIA THEY SHOULD FORGET ABOUT AN AQUAMAN SERIES AND DO A BATMAN ONE.

Aquamansgirl Wed, Nov 23, 2005 at 11:20 PM EST

I think they should have Alan Ritchson reprise his role as Aquaman. He is like the HOTTEST guy that had ever hit the show in a minute. I mean, he's sexy, muscular, and looks like an 'Aquaman' too. I mean, they should choose him. I mean, why not reprise the role? He's meant to be Aquaman because he's da bomb.

patricia Wed, Nov 23, 2005 at 03:39 PM EST

I think Ian Somerhalder would be a good choice. If not him, then Paul Walker.

Sam Tue, Nov 15, 2005 at 02:26 PM EST

Thomas Jane made me laugh because it reminded me of Arrested Development. Seriously, though, do we need an Aquaman show? Isn't he considered one of the more lame superheroes? I know the ratings were good for that episode of Smallville, but I'm thinking it was like when everyone looks at a car crash. People were probably disappointed that the episode wasn't much worse. I hate to be a naysayer, but I don't think this is a good idea.

By the way, whatever happened to the Batman TV show they were supposed to do. Now there's a good idea.

kriselda jarnsaxa Tue, Nov 15, 2005 at 12:09 AM EST

Jonathan Jackson would be good for an early-20's character....

I like the Aaron Ashmore idea, too.

Solo Fa'agata Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 09:52 PM EST

Matthew MacConawhatever... He'd be good.

tallsy Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 07:37 PM EST

Chris Carmack (O.C., Related) certainly has the look, but I think he's going to be on Broadway during pilot season.

Robert Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 06:42 PM EST

Scott Foley. Hey, if Speedman can't do it..

Chaim Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 05:16 PM EST

Maybe I should suggest someone to play Aquaman while mentioning how stupid it is to bring up Entourage every time someone brings up the word Aquaman. Dammitt I just did.

DL Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 04:08 PM EST

If Adrian Grenier gets some time off.....

Thad Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 02:37 PM EST

Ryan Reynolds. His movie career is toilet bound. Amityville showed he has the body for it. He could handle this, but could his ego?

Tiff Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 02:10 PM EST

I'm sitting at my desk at work, desperatly trying not to do anything, cracking up at the comments. Now not that it's a bad thing, but has anyone else noticed how mean everyone is? If you don't agree with something someone says you rip them to pieces. I think it's great. It gives evil people, like me, something to laugh about.
Seeing as though I am comic ignorant, I will keep my mouth shut as to who should play Aquaman. I will however say this. Paul Walker is definelty cute, but he's probably the worst actor (2nd only to Vin Diesel) I've ever seen. If he was on the show, I would watch, but with the mute on.

Josh Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 02:06 PM EST

I'm guessing they want a younger choice, so we can probably rule out Thomas Jane and Mark Valley (the 'Boston Legal' blonde guy). Forbes March is a decent choice but possibly also too old if the WB is looking for a teen. Eric Christian Olson has potential, though maybe he has done mainly comedy for a reason? But I'd give my fellow Iowan native a chance. Another suggestion? Aaron Ashmore, who has had some success but still not as well known as twin Shawn. Or better yet, the WB should use someone from their cancelled-too-soon 'Maybe It's Me', with Andrew W. Walker. And though I don't think the WB should sacrifice acting, a search for among swimmers could possibly lead to a real find who really fits the role.

nathan Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:54 PM EST

I agree with Andi, Paul Walker would be a good choice, it would keep him busy and unable to ruin other projects.

nessa Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:53 PM EST

Eminem - ha ha.

Andi Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:34 PM EST

Scott Speedman would be a wonderful choice. We all know he can swim thanks to his Felicity days.

Paul Walker would be another good choice.

Ned Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:33 PM EST

Ian Somerholder? This is Aquaman, not Aquagirl.

Tim Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:05 PM EST

Thomas Jane

ICC Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 01:02 PM EST

The hot blonde guy on Boston Legal!

JD Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 12:52 PM EST

It would be awesome to get Ian Somerhalder from LOST! This would be perfect since LOST is tops with the 18-49 demos that advertisers love so much and Ian has a huge following from those who still miss him.

joe Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 12:49 PM EST

I agree...Forbes Nash would be good! My wife watches that all the time, and I know exactly who you are talking about!

Joe Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 12:49 PM EST

Too bad Jensen Ackles is now on Supernatural..he woulda been great!!!

Ramury Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 12:48 PM EST

I liked the guy that played Aquaman on Smallville. He was the best looking thing to hit that show in a minute. Why aren't they keeping him?

Anyway if I had to choose someone else, how about FORBES MARCH - who currently plays Nash on "One Life to Live" I know it's a soap, but that's where they found the current Superman.

jajaj Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 12:10 PM EST

Eric Christian Olsen is the worst choice ever. He looks like he's mildly retarded.

bma Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 11:53 AM EST

So glad they're not casting the guy who played Aquaman on Smallville. He was good eye candy, but couldn't act his way out of a puddle. Eric Christian Olsen would be okay -- he's blond and a little rough looking. I don't want too much of a pretty boy -- Aquaman has enough bad press to play down already. If Ryan Gosling's star wasn't on the rise, maybe he could do it. Maybe since 7th Heaven's been cancelled, David Gallagher is free. Or Ian Somerhalder from Lost?
