Help us solve Fox's 'Prison Break' problem

Nov 2, 2005, 06:01 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: Television

162052__pb_lIf you were horrified by PopWatch's item yesterday about Fox putting the riveting Prison Break (starring Wentworth Miller, left) on hiatus from Nov. 28 until sometime in May, there's still hope of new episodes winning an early release, according to a story by Lynette Rice that will appear in Friday's issue of Entertainment Weekly.

''Insiders say Fox may reconsider [the plan], either by moving Break up to 8 p.m. on Mondays this winter -- which could mean shuffling House and perhaps Bones from their intended slots in January -- or waiting until early spring to give it a new day and time,'' Rice reports. But we like our colleague's suggestion to the network even better: ''Keep the show on the air and move it to the viewer graveyard formerly known as Friday, where another addictive Fox drama, The X-Files, once gained quite a cult following,'' Rice argues.

Sounds like a plan, as long as Fox goes with the 8 p.m. slot, thus avoiding a faceoff with my other guilty TV pleasure, CBS' Threshold.

Would that work for you? Or is there a better way to tinker with Fox's schedule?

hi all. Intimacy is what makes a marriage, not a ceremony, not a piece of paper from the state.
I am from France and now study English, tell me whether I wrote the following sentence: "This is a good choice if you willing to do the work yourself and you want to save a little money."

Waiting for a reply :p, Andre.

Prison break is such a goood show !! they can do other things with it. They can end the season with all of them happy and free. And come back with season 5 a couple years later. They do that with 24 for about 7 seasons now, and it is all the same you save lives in 24 hours. If it works for 24 it can work for prison break ! This show is amazing, and they are going to leave some fans pretty pissed off !

I LOVE PRISON BREAK AND TO KILL THE SHOW WOULD BE NOT A GOOD THING. I LOOK FORWARD TO MONDAY NIGHTS AT 8PM. I LIKE THE ACTORS AND THE SHOW IS VERY COOL. DONT TAKE THE SHOW OFF.

retlif Tue, Nov 20, 2007 at 11:45 AM EST

they should kill off the season instead of holding it for so long. truth be told, season 1 was riveting, season 2 was kinda nice with the twist and all, but season 3 was a horrible follow up.

Lonna Thu, Nov 15, 2007 at 03:45 PM EST

How long can prison break run anyway and how many prison's are they going to have to break out of. I don't know of too many shows that take such frequent time outs!

Are they going to show the fall finale episode again? And when? I missed it last night and am so upset.

Bob Elliott Thu, Nov 2, 2006 at 11:33 AM EST

If you watched a “Prison Break” movie then you might remember scene when hard disk was taken from the river and 60% of data was recovered. Let’s list some ideas about how to secure your hard disk:

1) Don’t give out (through away) a hard disk with valuable data;
2) The best way to destroy data is to drill your hard disk or break it completely;
3) If you don’t have a drill or you want to use something safer… then you should use file shredder;

File shredders
You will need two functions in file shredder - wiping free space and wiping files; Wiping free disk space is necessary to make previously deleted data irrecoverable, wiping files makes it impossible to recover files that you delete.

What is good file shredder? It’s secure, it don’t need you action, it wipes even temporary and cached files.

Finally, keep your files in secure place!

Please play an encore of the season finale. My DVR cut off the last 20 minutes of the show because it started late! I NEED my last 20 mins!

Sherry Mon, May 15, 2006 at 08:40 PM EST

I hope that you will show the finale, of prison break again, for those who missed it, on Monday. Thank you!

annette obrien Wed, May 3, 2006 at 11:22 PM EST

To channel nine, re Prisonbreak.
We have watched this show intently, but after last nights viewing 4/5/06 l do not think l will be watching it again.
A good show ruined by 16 minutes of show and the rest in ads. It is easy to lose interest when this happens, ads are important l suppose, but the long ads and the amount spoils the interest in the show. Also as no one seemed to go under the ground as fox did, how would any one know a pipe needed fixing, least of all a prisoner that just looked at a grate. The plot, l think the writer or make has lost it, we are intelligent people, not thick. So,
thank you and goodbye, it has become an ads show not "Prisonbreak"

i like prison break very much, im from norway and i think this is the greatest serie!

Osman Tue, Dec 13, 2005 at 01:46 AM EST

It used to blame FOX for what they did to the show.. But now I see they had no choice.

The major problem is, they arent done filming the episodes.

Lets not forget this show started in August. about 2-3 weeks before the season began. That is why there have finished airing 13 episodes and other shows have 8 -9 episodes aired. If they had not gone with the hiatus, there would be gaps in the storyline. Like everyother week would be an old episode. I for one whould like it much better if I had it new week after week.

Fox obviously didnt do it on purpose, but it had to be done....

Fox has made many mistakes in the past and is still making mistakes but this isnt one of them. I thin kthey have supported this show more than any other (expect American Idol) and when it teams up with 24 in March, itll do wonders!

ML Mon, Dec 12, 2005 at 03:33 AM EST

First of all, the people below this comment who posted after the finale should know that this show is not being delayed til May, only til March, and it's certainly not cancelled, Nathan. So while that's still a semi-lethal 4 months away, at least it's not a totally lethal 6 months away.

Second, the "finale" was disappointing because the writers never intended it to be a finale. It's not really much of a cliffhanger because the writers thought the next episode would be coming soon after. Fox decided to split the season in half, so they had to choose an episode to end it with and they chose this one. Very poor decision, IMO, I think the one before it would have been a much better breaking point.

I believe they will break out by the end of the season, and of course Lincoln's execution will be delayed somehow. Frankly, I expected that to happen all along. The writers want Michael and the Gang to be behind bars and in trouble for as long as possible, that's where the drama is, and the minute they get outside those walls the nature of the show will change dramatically. They are going to want to delay that as long as possible. It'd actually be pretty stupid for them to break out after only 12 episodes.

So give Prison Break a, er, break. The let down is completely Fox's fault, not the writers, and you shouldn't have expected them to break out this early anyway. Use your noggins, folks.

Nathan Fri, Dec 9, 2005 at 08:20 AM EST

Ack. I can't believe they cancelled this show. I really, really enjoyed it and I'm immensely sad to see it go. I don't care what time it airs at or on what day just so long as I can still download the episodes from my partner in crime: tvtorrents.com. Honestly though, what was Fox thinking cancelling this show? It's like Shawshank Redemption the series (with notably less drama). It's a genre that has almost never been tackled before and they're doing an excellent job (in my opinion) of executing it. You don't just cancel a show after 13 successful episodes, it's preposterous. This isn't "Mullets" after all...

Art Mensor Tue, Dec 6, 2005 at 04:24 AM EST

FOX, The WB, and ALL THE NETWORKS are running like amateurs, ALL OF THEM.

If they think the general public is going to stand for 2 new shows, then 2-5 weeks of other shows in their time slots, then 3 - 5 new shows during sweeps periods, then reruns, then a couple of weeks of other movies or something, then a few more new show, they are CRAZY.

You can NOT build up an audience for ANYTHING like that.

Also, ABC is the winner in commercials. They run 10 minutes of a show, then have 6 commercials, then 5 minutes of the show and 6-8 commercials, then 8 minutes of the show and 6-8 commercials. And their whole schedule is like that. Of course all those commercials give you time to go shower..... Thank heavens for the DVR or even video tape, you can record a show and then spend only 40 minutes watching it speeding through ALL of those commercials.

Do you remember the days when one or maybe two sponsors spent ALL their advertising dollars on ONE or two shows?
That allowed sponsor indentification with the show and was MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE. You remembered a show and the sponsor together. Now you get 2 car commercials sometimes back to back, and other competing companies or competing networks sponsors in the same commercial break. And how about those endless promos for upcoming shows? And the on screen FLASH announcements about the next whow or future shows. It is all SO DISTRACTING.

Of course the best thing to do once you find a show you like is to wait for it to come out on DVD. That way you can watch it whenever you want, in the best possible picture & sound quality, and often get extras, AND NO COMMERCIALS AT ALL!

Yes, I believe network TV is digging their own grave. Cable channels NEVER change the day and time slots of their shows, AND they run the entire series, they don't cancel a show after 3 airings like the networks do.

They all better wake up or otherwise network TV will become the next General Motors or the next Studebaker, you remember them don't you?????

Jon & Valory Saboe Mon, Dec 5, 2005 at 09:27 PM EST

They are crazy! Tommorow isn't promised to us--much less next March.

They are shooting themselves in the foot. My wife and I couldn't wait for the show tonight, only to find out there is a 3-5 month hiatus!!!

I guarantee we won't care about this show (after we're into 24) by then.

Dumb move!!!!

Wrap it up -- it made a great mini-series, but don't let it die like this!!!!

Pat Mon, Dec 5, 2005 at 09:18 PM EST

You have got to be kidding. This cannot be the last of PRISON BREAK.This is the best show since OZ.Just look how long it aired.I am like a junkie, give me a fix.Put the show back immediately.

Remco de Jong Mon, Dec 5, 2005 at 07:28 AM EST

To all prison break fans !!!
This is the best show i have seen in my life ,
iam from the netherlands and watch prison break every week. Its not on air yet in my country , but i thank god for the internet. Also iam a big 24 fan but,
i think prison break will beat 24, because jack is always doing the same thing by running after bad guys.
And to fox i will say that they should be a shame.
How could they do this?? 4 months??? are they insane ???
The best show EVER ( i really mean that ) all you fans out there , you should BLOCK fox four 4 months ,
dont watch anything that has to do with fox !!!
then maybe they will give in . For now i wish all the fans a MERRY CHRISTMAS , AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR and
see see you all back on MARCH 16,2006

Wentworth Miller

Gasman Sun, Dec 4, 2005 at 10:10 PM EST

Just curious people, does anyone know how to get a petition started?

Im sharing ur frustrations about the hiatus and sounds like a lot of people would get on board. Probly be a more productive option than just posting on forums.

Stick that in fox's pipe and let em smoke it!

Shane Tue, Nov 29, 2005 at 09:44 PM EST

I have Tivo'd every episode. I told myself that if they did not escape by the finale that I wouldn't watch next season. I will not be watching again. My Tivo will not catch it. You wanna drag this one on Fox??? You'll do it without me and many many others.

John Tue, Nov 29, 2005 at 06:39 PM EST

Prison break fall finale was very disappointing. the inmates were suppose to attempt their escape, they should have been nothing stopping them.Lincoln's execution is in 12 hours what is michael suppose to do grab a hammer break the grat covering the pipe. I swear if they do not escape I will never ever watch fox again.
stupid writers.

Anita Tue, Nov 29, 2005 at 03:33 PM EST

Prison Break is a great show, although I am very disappointed with the finale. Part of the appeal was we the fans believed they would escape, and hopefully could stay tuned to see what happened to them as fugitives. C'mon Fox...don't get lazy on us now! Put Prison Break back on air ASAP!!!

Anita Tue, Nov 29, 2005 at 03:25 PM EST

I love prison break! Air it anytime, that's why they have TIVO and things like that, so we can watch it at a convenient time. Don't cancel it!

Ben Tue, Nov 29, 2005 at 01:08 AM EST

Me and my entire dorm floor is way upset about the prison break episodes discontinued until this spring! We can't wait that long fox! Please continue... no matter what time slot you put it in. We will follow that show if it aired at 3:00am.

david Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:39 PM EST

so tonights episode pissed me off.
Up to this point the floor vent in the medical examining room has been a heating and air duct, but somehow today it becomes a 1/4 inch steel grate covering a massive 12 inch drain pipe? gimme a break!
and not only that, but you know how long it takes for maintenance to get around to fixing something like that? you have to submit a maintenance request form, and then it has to be inspected, parts have to be ordered (unless the prison keeps huge drain pipe parts in stock) and then the plumber has to come out and fix it.
but somehow on this show that all happened in what, 4 hours? c’mon…..
i think the writers of this show had a great idea, but are running out of ways to stretch it out into a multiple season show…i think i’m calling it quits on this one…good thing 24 comes on in january.

Josh Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:32 PM EST

If Fox takes Prison Break off the air, me and none of my 5 roommates (and essentially all the people in our circles of friends) will watch Fox at all until it comes back on.

Prison Break became a conversation piece for all of us, and by taking off Fox is just screwing themselves AGAIN

LOOK WHAT KINDS OF REVENUE YOU MISSED OUT ON BY CANCELLING FAMILY GUY FOR 39 MONTHS!!! YOU'RE DRIVING VIEWERS AWAY BY CANCELLING THE BEST PROGRAMMING ON YOUR NETWORK CONSISTENTLY!!

uh Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:27 PM EST

PRISON BREAK! I CANT WAIT THAT LONG!

kyle Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:26 PM EST

I think moving pb to 8:00 is the best idea ever,or fridays, waiting till may will be a bad idea because some people will lose interest in the show after not watching it for a long time.I never really liked any of these tv shows that ever gave except family guy and american dad,but when i saw that preview for prison break i went into shock and new i couldnt miss it for anything. The whole point is to keep it going for all us pb fans please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kaitlyn W. Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:20 PM EST

They CANNOT LEAVE THIS SHOW UNTIL MAY!!! I vote January, March is still pushing it. The finale was amazing, but the cliffhanger! Friday nights wouldn't work at all either. I say forget American Idol, who honestly cares anymore?

Matt Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:18 PM EST

I think that they should move it to Friday, Prison Break is too much of an addictive show to make people wait 4 months to watch the final episodes of it. I think it is kinda messed up to make the audiance wait so long just so they can fit other shows like American Idol, which i could care less about, in the schedule. Is there anyway people can vote to have it moved to a sooner date. If there is please let me know by clicking my name and giving me an e-mail with details. !!Thanks!!

P.S. Does anyone know how many episodes are left after the show returns?

Carl F. Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:13 PM EST

wow...quite the cliff-hanger. It said that it would return in March, but the only problem with that is that people may not want to wait that long. 4 months is a long time especially for a show that gained popularity in a short 12 episodes. It would be a mistake however to move it to the graveyard slot. It may have worked for the X-files, but that was a whole different group of people. In my opinion, Prison Break may have the chance of surving 1/3 of a year from now but definitely wouldn't last on a Friday night...

Luke Mon, Nov 28, 2005 at 10:07 PM EST

Do not take prison break off the air or I will have to steal the story line from your studios while posing as an intern.

Liss Sat, Nov 26, 2005 at 03:25 PM EST

Whatever FOX does, it can't put Prison Break on hold for that long. Sooo many people want it back, me being one of them. I loveeeeee Wentworth, he's amazing and the show's amazing, it is so successful. I think they should keep it on Monday night before or after 24, because they are both successful shows. Prison Break is the only thing I look forward to at the beginning of the week!

monday Sat, Nov 26, 2005 at 10:57 AM EST

Monday at 8:00 sounds best. Since many people will watch it at eight because people who wake up early for work can still watch it. This will mean the rating can boost.

Rob Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 09:53 AM EST

A message from a europian fan, the serie isn't broadcasted yet in europe, but nevertheless don't stop the show! we can easy download the episodes on tuesday so PLEASE don't screw this..........

Katt Tue, Nov 22, 2005 at 12:50 PM EST

I LOVE prison break!!!!! wentworth is sooooo hot!!!!!
PLEEEEEESE don't take it away, my life will be over!!!!!

Mondays before 24 fits my life perfectly.
Thanks!

Emma Mon, Nov 21, 2005 at 08:37 PM EST

I think it would really suck if they kept it on hiatus, its hard for shows in their first season to gain back a following after that many months since it last aired, Prison Break is just now gaining a following!! Mondays at 8 sounds fine!

Emma Mon, Nov 21, 2005 at 08:25 PM EST

omg you cant take our prison break away every monday night!! my and my friend alexa love that show and like to amke out with the screen when wentworth comes on!! dont take away my wentworth!!!! stay strong fellow prison break veiwers!

Erick Sat, Nov 19, 2005 at 08:56 PM EST

Hey Fox!!!
Here in Latin America we watch PRISION BREAK too. Don't leave us with out it!!!, this show is the best.

Spencer Fri, Nov 18, 2005 at 04:39 PM EST

If you take away my prison break every monday night, I will have to boycott fox, and never watch it again. I will tell everyone why fox is bad, if you don't take it away, i will continue to tell people how amazing the show is and why they should watch it.

Kay Browne Thu, Nov 17, 2005 at 08:28 PM EST

FOX:
please leave PRISON BREAK--WHERE IT IS - Monday nights
8pm 9pm. It is the best show and we are creatures of habit. No waiting. Be fair

Osman Tue, Nov 15, 2005 at 08:29 AM EST

Another flaw i see in my scheduale, is that FOX usually keeps Sundays at 7 for encore presentations because of the slight possibillity that sunday nfl games go into overtime. That way scheualed shows dont get messed.

This leaves "The Loop", Fox's only new show in the winter without a time slot.

Maybe they should put that in Friday so it will be a total comedy lineup. Because Bernie Mac, Malcolm and Killer intinct doesnt really fit.

WTH is 'The Loop' anyway.... its most probably gonna be a flop like all the other fox comedies anyway (except for Family Guy & AD)
Link to discription: http://www.fox.com/schedule/2005fall/theloop.htm

Cancell Killer Instinct, and put The Loop and some other new comedy there.... OR JUST PUT Aressted Devolpment THERE...

Wow i tihnk if that happens Arrected Devolpment wins the awards for 'most moved around show'

Osman Tue, Nov 15, 2005 at 08:07 AM EST

ML,

No matter whatwe do, there is always going to be a hole after nine weeks.

What they could do is put back Arreted Devolopment and Kitchen conidential (if they are still alive),or start a new show in that time slot, OR just have reruns of prison break, or even better, encore presentations of 24.... like what they are doing now for prison break.

So march it would be

Monday
---
8pm 24 (Last weeks episode)
9pm 24 (New Episode)

I dont think house will need to move.
House used to be on tuesday, they are already having plans to shift it from its time slot(to monday), why not make the move to wednesday permanent? Even though i love lost and House, If i wanted fox to compete for wednesday, thats the way i would do it.

And it REALLY doesnt matter if it overlaps for me, I live in Canada, and here my canadaian TV channels just pick and choose the best shows and put it on one channel... go to ctv.com, look at thier scheduale it fits everything.. And for shows that dont fit, they are shown on another channel Global, shows like Prison break, simpsons, family guy apprentice, w/o a trace, etc etc

ML Tue, Nov 15, 2005 at 02:49 AM EST

Osman, the only problem with your schedule it that PB only has 9 episodes left in its season after the "fall finale." Fox could maybe stretch that to the end of March, but after that, they've got a hole. They could rearrange their schedule again (for instance, putting House back on Mondays), but then we'd have the House fans rioting over Fox mishandling *that* show.

Felicia Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 10:39 PM EST

You will lose a ton of viewers by postponing Prison Break until May. It's the first exciting show in a long time! Maintaining the Monday 8:00PM/9:00PM slot is the way to go. Actually whatever night will do, just don't wait too long. I look forward to the series every week. I don't want it to end.

Osman Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 08:04 PM EST

I think there Jan 2006 sched. Should Look like this:

Monday
---
8pm - 24 or Prison Break (if 24 were here, it would be a great lead-in for PB)
9pm - Prison Break or 24

Tuesday
---
8pm - American Idol
9pm - Bones

Wednesday
---
8pm - That 70s Show
8:30 - AI results
9pm - House (Fight Lost with the best FOx's got - AI lead-in will help as well)

Thusday - Unchanged
---
8pm - The O.C.
9pm - Reunion

Friday - Unchanged
---
8pm - Bernie Mac
8:30 - Malcolm in the Middle
9pm - Killer Instinct (doesnt look like a promising show)

Sat - Cops

Sunday
---
7pm - The Loop
7:30 - KOTH
8pm - Simspons
8:30 - TWAH
9pm - Family Guy
9:30 - American Dad

This way, ALL shows are still intact (except for Stacked, but cmon... u know its gonna be cut in like december). This would solve all there problems.

The only problem I think Fox might have with this, is giving 'the loop' a real chance.. cause sundays at 7 isnt really the best time slot.. other than that, I think it works.

pb fans are happy, 24 is happy, Bones is really happy, House might struggle, but with American Idol leadin, and its alreaddy promising sucess, it might challenge Lost. If cbs did it with criminal minds, why cant fox do it with house???

cross ure fingers and hope for the best

stephanie Sun, Nov 13, 2005 at 05:33 AM EST

Why do you people always change how shows are played. It is simply stupid. This is the greatest show that I have ever seen, if you move it to friday no one is going to watch it except those that don't have a life. Please don't put it on hiatas I can't live without it.

jester Sat, Nov 12, 2005 at 07:49 PM EST

if they dont show prison break , i have no reason to watch FOX until they are 24 season 5 -- I feel strongly about the past canclations that Fox have made in the past two of them being cutting John Doe and FastLane -- two very awesome shows with a fun enjoyable cast -- but if they cut prison break -- i refuse to watch the network again.

Sandra Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 09:48 PM EST

Well i thought i would add my comment in as well, i honestly agree with everyone else here. I have not watched Prime Time TV especially on FOX since Beverly Hills 90210 of which i followed from begining to end. Prison Break has gotten my full and complete attention since i saw the previews on Direct Tv Line up for new shows, not only because i have become a HUGE FAN of Wentworth Miller but because this show is great it has such a great plot and i have gotten everyone from my family to my co-workers hook on Prison Break even my mom watches and she doesn't like watching TV. So i plea to everyone at FOX please do not move Prison Break take one of your other rinky dink shows off but leave Prison Break where it is now.

I love the idea about moving House to Mondays before 24 (2 great shows in a row). But what about Prison Break? My suggestion: have House go before 24, but put it on hiatus for 9 weeks, allowing for Prison Break to run non-stop along with 24. Once Prison Break is over, House could come back on and air non-stop until the end of the season.
Friday, OK, but don't put it on Friday because everyone know's it's a greveyard. Sunday at nine, OK, but I'll miss Family Guy and American Dad.
I'd go with my first choice.

This has been circulating around the internet, in case somebody wants to join:

After the recent announcement about Prison Break going on an extended hiatus until 24 is over, many folks have expressed concern that Fox isn't fully aware of the fan base the show has. While this is likely not the case and the decision was made in the best interests of the show, it never hurts to send a message to Fox and the show that the fans are here and will be here, anxiously awaiting the return of the show whenever that might be (and if the message encourages Fox to try to bring back the show sooner, that's not a bad thing).

But for the message to really hit home it needs to come from as many folks as possible. So please join in this campaign both by sending your own messages and spreading the information to any Prison Break messages boards, website masters, Live Journals/My Space/other blogs, email lists or just fellow fans that you know.

Roswell had its tabasco, Tarzan had its jungle, for Prison Break we've decided to send Swans. Origami Swans to be exact. After all if it's good enough for Michael to use to carry a message, it's good enough for us.

You'll need to make 4 swans. They can be on any kind of paper but white or a light color works best. A regular letter size piece makes a nice large swan that you can write on and still gently squash into a letter sized envelope. Every easy to follow instructions can be found at http://art-smart.ci.manchester.ct.us/how_to/ori_swan1.html

Don't worry about them being perfect, just get as close as you can. On one side, write "I love Prison Break" and on the other right your first name, age and hometown. No letter is needed, but if you choose to write one remember that this is a campaign of support for the show. NOT an angry letter campaign blasting Fox for keeping the show off the schedule. The last thing we want is to upset them by calling the morons, their decision stupid etc and as revenge they purposefully keep the show off the air until May (studio executives do have feelings and can be petty. don't tempt them). Our goal is to show them the fan base that is there waiting for the show no matter when it returns. In fact it's best if you don't mention the hiatus at all. And keep the letters, if you include one, under one page. They are busy folks and don't have time to read 10 page letters about great the show is.

Send one swan to each of the following addresses. Yes there are two for the show. One is the production office in Chicago and the other is the writers office in Los Angeles. Also we are sending letters to the TV guide in the hopes of generating some buzz about the campaign and the show.

I think all of us need to start a letter writing campaign to keep Prison Break on the air. Letter writing singlehandedly saved Party of Five, and in this case, ratings aren't the issue.

What I don't understand is why the network seems to favor Bones which pulls in lower ratings than Prison Break. There are so many shows on Fox with half the audience of Prison Break! Can someone explain the logic of pulling Prison Break?!

IMO, there are two good options for Fox. One is to put PB on Mon at 8pm right before 24 or on Tuesday at 9 after Idol.

Jeff Mon, Nov 7, 2005 at 05:28 PM EST

The makers of PB constantly say that EVENTUALLY they will break out of prison...that is obviously going to happen at the end of the first 13 episodes which expire at the end of November. The show will almost definitely change after that, and no one knows what to expect. The momentum is not going to help when the plot completely twists around and the premise of the show changes. That's why FOX is considering the break.
Personally, I say they put it on Mondays at 8, right before 24. PB might benefit from a 24 lead-in, but unfortunately for you fans, 24 has the bigger audience and last season was its best ever. So chances are they're not going to screw with 24's timeslot, even just a little, for a show in its youngest stage and whose premise is obviously going to shift and bring about unknown effects. PB before 24 is the best decision they could make at this point.

Kevin Mac Mon, Nov 7, 2005 at 02:58 PM EST

I hate to say it, but this isn't anything new to FOX. The seem to have (at least for the 18-49 demo) some of the best shows on and the cancel them without any real reasoning. You know FOX was shooting themselves in the foot after Family Guy and if the Futurama movie (the straight to DVD release that is currently planned) does well, what are they going to do? 24 is a hit, although last season did loose a little steam, it's still good. House is their CSI, you could miss an episode or two and still get the plot, which is fine. The OC is loosing a lot of steam. As is Reunion, which is a shame because it wants to be better than what it is. Bones, haven't seen it but it looks cool. As for the other stuff (aside from Arrested, Kitchen, Simpsons, American Dad, and KOTH) I don't watch it. So I could really care less. But why move Prison Break? You have an audience that comes on Monday's and enjoys watching it. Why mess with it? There was a poster above who made an excellent point, as soon as MNF (Monday Night Football) goes to ESPN, there are going to be plenty of people looking for something to watch. CBS has some power there, How I Met Your Mother is fantastic and Out of Practice is really good, but other than that what else is there? Las Vegas is lame, Medium is not as strong as I thought it was, Two and a Half Men is terrible too. What does ABC have? Nothing now, and the Bachelor is not going to cut it.

So FOX if you read this, keep Prison Break at 9 on Monday and let 24 go on at 8. Or get rid of the news, since no one wants to hear about Iraq or anything else that they can get from the god awful Bill O'Reily. 11 is fine for the news.

GLG Mon, Nov 7, 2005 at 02:02 PM EST

I for one won't be watching '24,' and if 'Prison Break' goes on this stupid hiatus for till next year, I won't be watching anything on fox in the mean time. This makes no sense at all, so I hope fox execs figure it out and keep Prison Break on the air this winter.

AC Mon, Nov 7, 2005 at 10:48 AM EST

Please FOX whatever you do keep PrisonBreak on the air.. usually I watch WB at 8pm on Mondays then switch to PB at 9pm.. but if it gets moved to 8pm i don't care.. I'm there.. just please for crying out loud.. stop shuffling shows around!!!.

Jen Mon, Nov 7, 2005 at 09:09 AM EST

I'm not really feeling the Friday night deal. But Monday at 8:00 sounds great!! Why do they care about Bones anyway?
As much as I love PB, I don't think it could handle being up against DH or LOST. Maybe in a season or two, but I don't want PB canceled because it's not doing well up against these huge shows. Of course, our boys have been holding their own up against Monday Night Football, so who knows.....

Laura Sat, Nov 5, 2005 at 04:12 PM EST

When Carrie Underwood won AI, (I'm from Oklahoma) I watched it b/c she's from here. I never watch Ai or "The OC" b/c they are so stupid. I haven't watched FOX since the '90's, when "Melrose Place" came on. Speaking of which, FOX should NOT put "Prison Break" up against "Desperate Housewives"! Why? B/c Wentworth Miller IS WAY BETTER LOOKING AND WAY MORE TALENTED THAN Jesse Metcalfe! Anyway, put AI up against DH and put "Prison Break" up against "Lost" and "One Tree Hill" on Wednesday nights. Or leave it on Mondays.

TT the PB fanatic Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:53 PM EST

Thank you people, for making my night entertaining by reading all your suggestions. I hope FOX reads this and other PB fansites because they obviously need to get more in touch with what people want...

If I get deprived of my make-believe husband Wentworth Miller for 6 months heads will roll! J/k I think I could wait for that time to end if it was completely necessary, but FOX needs all the good shows they can get and underestimated PB’s success. Like someone else said, spoilers and rumors will ruin PB’s suspense and intensity during that hiatus. Get rid of the expendable shows like Stacked and Reunion. I’ve been talking up PB so much MY MOM is asking me when the next episode airs! How can FOX be as stupid as to put it in the Friday death slot? You want to wreck a good thing, FOX? If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. Therefore, I suggest that PB move up to 8pm ET followed by 24 (or vice versa) on Monday nights, both shows have the same appealing audience and having them both on Monday nights would only boost ratings, if they think the show is too raunchy for 8pm ET, why not Sunday nights? For example, I don’t even watch 24, but if PB were on I’d watch that and consider sticking around for 24.

terri Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 08:30 PM EST

Are Fox crazy? This is easily their best show yet they are treating it like something you stood on. I would put the show on after American Idol. Hopefully Fox will reconsider their rash decision.

Janie S Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 05:11 PM EST

i hope that fox isn't really serious about the hiatus on prison break, not when it's alreaady gaining a lot of buzz. i love this show and wouldn't want to see it relegated to Friday nights. why not move stacked or kitchen confidential instead? Prison break on Sundays would be a good idea too. FOX, don't kill the momentum that PB already has by doing this winter break!

pennyq Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 11:08 AM EST

This really isn't that hard. I'm assuming that either Killer Instinct or Reunion will get cancelled. However, Prison Break is too good to get relegated to Friday night, and I wouldn't want to see it competing against CSI. However, nothing is on Wednesdays at 8. They can move That 70's Show and Stacked to Fridays and put either House or Bones there. Since they seem to want to give Bones the Tuesday at 9 post AI slot to give it a chance, they should probably put House on Wednesdays. It already has an audience who will follow it there. Although, those of us who haven't had anything to watch on Wednesdays at 8 might appreciate Bones moving there. That's up to Fox. That leaves Mondays at 8 for Prison Break, followed by 24. And since they've been showing reruns of Prison Break in the 8 PM hour for awhile now, I don't think it needs a 9 PM time slot.

And of course, once they cancel one of their crappy new comedies, they can put Arrested Development back on in its place.

Steph Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:48 AM EST

I love this show, and have been hooked ever since the first show. I am so tired of networks moving around shows so you have to contiually search to find them again. There has to be a better solution then running it on Friday night, and I think this will lose viewers. I can't wait until May...please keep this show running. I love it, and FOX finally has made a break through with this show. I have told everyone about it!!!

Jo Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:37 AM EST

Prison Break, like 24, is too intense and exciting to drop for 5 months. I can't imagine them doing something like that with 24 so why do it with Prison break. It makes no sense. Please find a place for it in the winter. Airing it on Monday with 24 would be great for adding viewers.

Josh Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:34 AM EST

I love Kitchen Confidential, do not get rid of it FOX!

Josh Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:33 AM EST

Prison Break won't do any better on Friday nights than Fastlane did, which started off to decent ratings on Wednesday where it could attract a young audience, then faltered when it moved.

Shannon Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 10:12 AM EST

I do not want to see Prison Break on Friday's on FOX just because of FOX's track record of dumping good shows on Friday (Dark Angel, Fastlane, Firefly) and then cancelling them. Get rid of the shows that no one wants to watch anyway (American Dad, Kitchen Confidental, Killer Instinct) and that should create a nice time slot for the Prison Break crew. If I have to wait until May I will but I will not be happy about it!

Mike in Moncton Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 09:32 AM EST

Not sure I'd be able to survive the heart attacks brought on by a 24/Prison Break double whammy Monday nights, but I'd be willing to try. DO IT, FOX!

tmria Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 10:47 PM EST

I sent an e-mail to Fox, letting them know that this viewer would like to keep PB on. I figured the more people tell them to keep it going, the better the chances, right? Here's what they sent back:

"We didn't say SEASON Finale - we said FALL Finale - just like MONK and DEAD ZONE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and STARGATE SG1 - they air the first half of the season in one chunk then wait a few months and return for the 2nd half of the season. The show will return later in the season."

So I get it -- Fox is now comparing itself to basic-cable channels. No wonder it's in fourth place among major networks. Keep making these brilliant decisions, Fox, and pretty soon even UPN will be surpassing you.

Morons.

Margen Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 09:05 PM EST

Re: PB being too gritty for 8pm

This is not an issue. FOX has already shown they are willing to air this show at 8pm since they have been showing PB reruns in that timeslot for months. Also, once the story moves out of the prison I think it will become less graphically violent.

Erica Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 05:22 PM EST

yeah,i love prison break. maybe bc i'm a highschooler..who knows..but i love it..and it's time helps me lost bc ihave nothing to do on monday nights.

rasmogul Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 04:57 PM EST

please keep "prison break" or release it on DVD. it rocks!

Bruno Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 04:47 PM EST

Put American Dad on a hiatus and return it in the summer. American Dad may not be buzz worthy, but it's lucrative. Fox giving Comedy Central the rights works in their favor. It's also going to be a DVD hit when it's released. So they need to hold it to the Summer.

Cancel that god awful Michael Rappaport show. Move Family Guy to 8:30, the spot where it originally was when the show first started. It will also keep the friendly rivalry that FG and the Simpson's share going on. The Simpson's is on it's last legs, so FG is the natural successor to it.

And move Prison Break to Sunday at 9PM. To counter Program against the women who are crazy about DH.

Another RADICAL scenerio would be for Fox to extend their Prime Time hours from 10PM to 11. But I'm scared they'd fill the excess time with Trading Spouses reruns.

But Fox is now a Major Network. They should offer more hours of viewing. At least on major nights.

Jamal Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 04:18 PM EST

wtf? the guy 2 comments below me, let me remind you that 24 is nothing without AI and it took 3 seasons for 24 to finally get some fans, unlike 24, Prison break can hold on to its own high ratings and without the help of the 8pm timeslot, PB is capable of increasing its viewers, just like House did with "The billionaire" or whatever that show of called. Prison break is far superior! and will probably do better than 24 in the long run...just as house is doing. KEEP PRISON BREAK ON THE MONDAY TIMESLOT! DO NOT AIR IT IN MAY

Martha Thu, Nov 3, 2005 at 03:43 PM EST

Fox should definitely keep Prison Break. Putting it on Friday at 8 p.m. is an idea--and it's true, this worked for X-Files. But where X-Files eventually and truly flourished was Sunday nights--a tough neighborhood but perhaps Fox should go for broke. Prison Break is a great show, and it needs a good place for lots of people to find its gritty yet soapily addicting stories.
