Can you smell what James Lipton is brewing?

152723__ap_lIf anyone can get an explanation out of Dave Chappelle, it's James Lipton. Chappelle will tell Lipton what his favorite curse word is sometime during the forthcoming 12th season of Inside the Actors Studio, which starts Dec. 11 on Bravo. Others up for an evening of fawning and flattery: Al Pacino (left), Queen Latifah, Martin Lawrence, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick (together), and Barbara Walters. Uh, Barbara Walters? I know Lipton has been extending his roster in recent years to include celebrities whose connection to acting is tangential at best, but c'mon. Oh well, maybe he'll amend his usual wrap-up questionnaire to ask her, ''If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?''

Anyone you'd still like to see on Inside the Actors Studio whom Lipton hasn't yet interrogated? And what sound or noise do you hate?

My dear friend Herbert Lom, best known as Inspector Dreyfus to Peter Seller's Inspector Clousseau. Herbert has had a fascinating life, and he tells fabulous stories!

i hope james lipton asks dave what the hell he was thinking. I understand that every generation has that one funny black guy, and maybe he did not want to be that guy. And maybe the pressure was a little too much,a point to which i may never be able to comprehendm, but dave chappelle is a genius. To back out now would be the same thing as if the wright brothers had never tried to fly, or as if einstein just woke up one day and said " f#ck it" and started whoring. It is a seeming tragedy that his fans can not endulge in his creativity any longer.

I'd like to see Nicholas Cage and/or Bill Murray. Two of my personal favorites who would be a riot on the show.

I know it's probably never going to happen, but please, please, please put Christopher Lee on the stage! He is a genious at acting, and his film credits are as long as your arm!

JIM CARREY! more acting credibility in his pinkie than all these other "actors" combined. plus, he'd be a great guest. if robin williams got 2 hours, they might need a miniseries just to fit in all the great footage Jim will have.

Who's next for Lipton? Johnny Knoxville?

I'd love to see Ben Browder talk about his experience on Farscape and in general, how he had to change so many times to be true to the character. How it felt to be the new Buck Rogers only more real...

He is a better actor than most people think... He is a gem in the industry and he should get recognized as such.

If I get the chance to work with him, I'd count it as one of my highlight of my career...

Why does he never discuss their flops? I really wanted to see Sean Penn discuss 'Shangai Suprise', but he never did. Where did they think it went wrong, why did they choose that picture? Makes the students think every movie they ever have done is fabulous. Learning from failures is important.

ITAS jumped the shark when they had J.Lo on and never fully recovered. Hey, Lipton, how about talking to actors with actual talent, not because they're the Flavor of the Month?

Kurt Wed, Nov 9, 2005 at 09:22 AM EST

I would love to see Cher on the actor's studio, but, since she is not promoting a record or movie -- I doubt she would do it now.

Maybe in the future

Tim Wed, Nov 9, 2005 at 09:08 AM EST

ITAS has scrapped the bottom of the barrel with some guests in the last year or so. I don't think they can get big-named actors and actresses so they have to go with people like JLo.

I am so glad someone finally said something, Cliff. I am getting sich and tired of non-actors on this show. The only episodes that I'll probably watch of the new season are Al Pacino and Queen Latifah (even though I'm not sure Latifah has enough under her belt to warrant being on the show, but she's a fine actress). I miss when you could tune into the show and be treated to greatness. Even great directors would be more welcome than two hours with Billy Joel or Sir Elton John. Amen for the Frances McDormand reference, as well as Albert Finney.

Nichole Kidman? Martin Lawrence is much better than that snatch! Your just going through your mid-life (45-50yrs)Crisis, Frank. You should seek some professional help...Quickly...

Frank Wed, Nov 9, 2005 at 02:38 AM EST

How about Peter Sarsgaard, Laura Linney, Paul Rudd..just to name a few.

cliff Wed, Nov 9, 2005 at 01:07 AM EST

Can we put some restrictions on this show? Maybe age 45, or 30 years as an ACTOR, whichever comes first. What is Martin Lawrence going to talk about for an hour? Big Momma's House? Bad Boys? Why can't we get a guest like Nicole Kidman, or Bill Murray, or Diane Keaton? Too much J.Lo, not enough Frances McDormand. Too much Mark Wahlberg, not enough Albert Finney.
