Simon will return to 'American Idol'

162942__cowell_lInsult-happy American Idol fans, rejoice! Simon Cowell (left) is staying put -- and for quite a while. Fox announced today that both the acid-tongued judge and the show he helped turn into a ratings -- and radio -- juggernaut will be around for at least five more installments (counting the one that premieres this January). Apparently, Idol creator Simon Fuller decided that little copyright-infringement lawsuit against Cowell wasn’t that big a deal after all (the suit was settled quietly out of court). You know what this means, people? More Kellys, Clays, Carries, and Bos! Can you stand the excitement? I can’t. I’m already attempting to program my TiVo a half-decade in advance.

I must have missed what the infingement is about. Can someone explain what took place? What would Idol be without Simon? Boring!

refreshing to see that someone else at ew.com can write stuff about idol instead of the "I LOVE FANTASIA AND HATE EVERYONE ELSE" M.S. (you know who i'm talking about!)

Without Simon, the show would be unbearable; bad singers, Paula's crying, Randy saying Dawg every five seconds. I'll be there again!

When is Simon going to do something about his hair - or whatever that is on top of his head?

I'm swearing off American Idol...it takes up too much time! I tried to quit last year, but I watched some of the early episodes for the bad singing, and got hooked again. I can't believe they're going to have at least 5 more AIs. Pretty soon they'll be able to have an Idol Choir!

So, the concern whether Simon would return was for all of what five minutes?!

Actually, the idea for Simon's X factor show is an interesting change (groups, duets, individuals, etc, can all compete), but the first season didn't produce anyone successful in the UK and from what I've heard, the second season won't either.

Any word on whether they will finally replace Randy with someone who actually makes a contribution to the show? I mean, at least Paula is the mother figure who everyone can depend on for a moral boost (or a good laugh for the cynics). But, Randy? Dawg needs to go...

I'm happy. Idol without Simon wouldn't have been the same. It's good to hear that my guilty pleasure will be around for another four seasons.
