Trailer Blazer: 'Superman Returns' (and so does Guy Ritchie)

155948__superman_lHot new movie trailers:

Superman Returns (June 30, 2006) Bryan Singer, who's emulating Peter Jackson by vlogging his production diary for Superman Returns at BlueTights.net, finally offers a few glimpses of footage in entry #22. It's the account of the director's trip to Comic-Con last month to address the fanboys, and the footage he brought is included here. Some cool shots of Brandon Routh (left) wearing the supersuit, disguised as nerdy Clark Kent (evoking Rushmore's Jason Schwartzman), and seeking refuge in the Fortress of Solitude.

Revolver (Fall 2005) Is it good news or bad news that Revolver looks like a return to form for Guy Ritchie after Swept Away? It's another movie about philosophizing gangsters, like Ritchie's Snatch and Lock, Stock..., with Jason Statham (unrecognizable with hair), Ray Liotta, Vincent ''Big Pussy'' Pastore, and Andre Benjamin. It's great to see the OutKast rapper getting so much work, but could someone please give Andre 3000 a role that doesn't involve gangsters or guns?

The Squid and the Whale (Oct. 7) Screenwriter Noah Baumbach (1995's Kicking and Screaming, Mr. Jealousy, Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) has that funny/romantic/wistful/introspective thing down to a science; he's like Cameron Crowe with a masters degree and an indie budget. You'll see what I mean from the trailer for this Sundance dramedy fave, about the impact of a divorce on the couple's two sons. Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney are the funny, flawed parents.

No Direction Home: Bob Dylan (Sept. 26-27) Yes, it's a PBS documentary, but it's being advertised like a feature. (This clip is an ad for the forthcoming DVD.)  Somehow, it looks and sounds like what it is, a Martin Scorsese movie. Dylan fan or no, this looks like a must-see.

Superman return will be a good movie. Especially for two and a half hour, will satisfy me. Wish they show everything superman power have.

Singer knows his comics history, especially concerning about Superman costume (which has changed in minimal ways since 1938), and just who Superman and Clark Kent are. I had the honor of being at the Sna Diego Comic-Con on the day the SR footage was shown, and it was amazing. I'm looking foward to it next when it's released on June 30.

I can't believe that I took time to read these comments. Don't we all have something better to do?

After seeing the new Superman outfit, I was a little iffy about the movie, but the latest production diary has eased my mind a lot. I'm definitely excited to see this one! Too bad Singer couldn't do Superman AND X-Men III.

Hey Gary Susman, what parts do you want Andre to play? Maybe he should play a school teacher who inspires kids to learn calculus? Or a medical student who tells jokes to his patients to make them feel better? Or maybe he can play a sensitive husband on the Lifetime movie of the week? Dude, Please. Gangsters are cool and everyone wants to be one or at least play one on the silver screen. Andre is an amazing actor, but let the guy break into the scene playing roles he is comfortable in.

The new Guy Ritchie movie will be a gas, a return to form for a director who should never have left the genre in the first place.
