Since the start of the fall TV season, only two shows have been tops with EW.com readers: The Vampire Diaries and Breaking Bad. To that storied list we can now add NBC’s wily and weird Thursday night cult comedy Community, which tickled and (perhaps) terrified viewers with a Halloween anthology episode. Meanwhile, Once Upon a Time‘s series premiere landed just out of the top five. Check out the complete rankings below:  READ FULL STORY »

'Happy Endings' gets a ratings boost thanks to canceled baseball: Can it keep its momentum?

While fans of the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals anxiously awaiting the outcome of Game 6 of the World Series might respectfully disagree, the weather could not have been better last night. For Happy Endings, anyway.

In fact, if you’re one of the devoted Happy Endings fans like me who have relentlessly begged your friends to watch the show, you may be able to take a breather soon. Thanks to the postponed game, Happy Endings got a huge ratings bump, as did the other shows in ABC’s Wednesday night line-up. (While it had a weaker showing than, say, Suburgatory, Happy Endings still pulled in an impressive 8.3 million, 3.5., up from last week’s draw of just 6.9 million, 3.0/)

But here’s why I don’t think this will be a one-off, well-now-I-have-to-watch-something-else-besides-baseball fluke: It was an awesome episode. READ FULL STORY »

With Breaking Bad – and its stranglehold of the EW.com reader rankings — now out of the picture, it should surprise no one that The Vampire Diaries has vaulted back to the top of the pack, thanks to a jam-packed episode that featured Elena getting her Buffy on. Meanwhile, a new addition to the EW recap ranks, ABC’s Happy Endings, makes a happy debut at no. 4. Here are the full standings:  READ FULL STORY »

'Happy Endings': Yes! And Megan Mullally was there!

“They talk so fast on that show.” Sure, that was Brad talking about Gilmore Girls in a scene from last night’s Happy Endings, but that statement is just as easily applicable to their own show. Happy Endings proved, once again, that it is not only one of the funniest shows on TV right now, but one of the toughest to keep up with. Heck, even rewinding your DVR to hear what jokes you laughed over can prove to be a challenge. But, it’s so very worth it.

So, in case you missed it, or you watched and you still missed it, here’s what happened in the new episode titled “Yesandwitch”: READ FULL STORY »

ABC's 'Happy Endings': Five reasons to love it!

Happy-Endings-premiere

When Happy Endings premiered last spring, the obvious dig on the show was that it was yet another collection of six twenty-to-thirtysomething friends with a shockingly large amount of free time who spend their half hour on our television nattering comically about their relationships. Which, in fairness, it is. Happy Endings even has a played-out will-they-or-won’t-they premise: A year ago, Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) left Dave (Zachary Knighton) at the altar. But because their core group of friends is so tight-knit — Alex’s uptight sister Jane (Eliza Coupe), her easy-going husband Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.), and their college buddies, kind-of-a-mess Penny (Casey Wilson) and slovenly-straight-acting gay dude Max (Adam Pally) — Alex and Dave have maintained a warm-if-tricky friendship…that may be hiding something more!

Yeah, I know, it’s like network romcom Mad Libs. And yet next to The Good Wife, I don’t know if there’s another returning show I’m more excited about this season. Tonight’s season 2 premiere was a great example as to why. Let me count the ways:
