'Chuck' series finale react: Were you satisfied with the ending?

So much can be — and has been — said about the resilience of NBC’s Chuck. In fact, television circles will, I humbly predict, refer to it exactly how EP Josh Schwartz described it to EW: “Saved by sandwiches.”

The show always found itself facing cancellation (Chuck Vs. The Bubble, if you will), and yet, somehow, be it fans or footlongs, found a way to come back. And when it came time to close out the series, it seems only fitting that Chuck, the character, displayed the same resilience as the universe he existed in.

We always knew that tonight’s finale would pose challenges to the title hero. (They’d never let him off easy.) But even I never expected what they threw at him. [If you didn't catch the series finale of Chuck, don't read on until you do!] READ FULL STORY »

Who's to blame when a rabid Internet fanbase doesn't help a show?

There’s been good news and bad news coming out of NBC’s day at the TV critics’ semi-annual press tour. NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt assured reporters that Community will return this season — he’s just not sure when. Asked about its odds of renewal for a fourth season, however, he became cagey: “I don’t know. Those are hard questions to answer at this point … we’ll make that decision closer to the upfront.” His views on Chuck, which airs its series finale Jan. 27, were more clear. “Did you see the ratings?,” he asked when questioned about the decision to burn episodes over the holidays. “That rabid fanbase going crazy on the net didn’t come to the show. Chuck’s time had come. Chuck is over, let’s alert the masses.”

If you’re a fan of Chuck, those words are tough to take. You will have invested roughly 91 hours in the show, and while you can understand why the network bean-counters looking at the big picture would see it as “over,” that doesn’t diminish your disappointment and loss. Why’s it so hard to accept? READ FULL STORY »

Did you catch the eerie Osama bin Laden appearance on 'Chuck' last night?

If you, like me, were blinded by the sight of Ellie rubbing suntan lotion on a shirtless Awesome last night on Chuck, then you probably missed the next scene, which featured an aptly timed, second-long Osama bin Laden appearance.

The moment was as Casey was showing his best shooting targets to the rest of the guys going to Chuck’s bachelor party in “Las Vegas.” (It turned out to be “Las Vecas,” a camping ground.) Ironically, reports say bin Laden was shot in the head and chest, as shown on the target.

Was I the only unobservant one who missed this on first watch, PopWatchers? Or did you see it the first time around? Does it give you the heebie-jeebies, too? Also, anyone else totally curious about whose face is on the rest of the targets in that book of his?

'Chuck' fans start the renewal campaign once again -- this time on Twitter

Chuck-cast

Do you give a chuck about Chuck‘s renewal chances? Well, at least one — very vocal — group of people does.

This week marked the beginning of a Twitter campaign spearheaded by fan site We Give a Chuck that aimed to let the show’s advertisers know, well, that they exist. Using the hashtag #NotaNielsenFamily, the fandom banded together in hopes of letting Chuck‘s many advertisers that the oft-criticized Nielsen ratings system doesn’t speak to what they claim the true numbers the show is really pulling in.  READ FULL STORY »

'Chuck' star Yvonne Strahovski parodies Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Ke$ha: Watch the video here!

If you needed further proof that Chuck‘s Yvonne Strahovski is TV’s coolest Aussie/Polish actress, look no further than this CollegeHumor clip called “Three Pop Stars, One Video” that finds Sarah Walker skewering today’s top pop divas.

Recasting herself as Katy Perry, Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, Strahovski sings about wooing a guy “no matter what manufactured image [he's] into.” Ouch! At least those three divas have millions of dollars to ease the sting of her satire.

The best line has to be Strahovski as Perry prancing around in a cupcake bra on a beach singing, “I love you with my heart everlasting/I love you with boobies whipped-cream-blasting.” Watch the slightly NSFW video here: READ FULL STORY »

Richard Castle and Sarah Walker crowned TV characters you'd most want to date

Most-Dateable-CharacterImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABC; Chris Haston/NBCAfter a combined 35,000 votes were cast in our Valentine’s Day polls, PopWatch readers have crowned Castle‘s Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Chuck‘s Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) the TV characters they would most like to date. We’ve yet to hear Fillion’s response to earning the title, but Strahovski, who defeated Castle‘s Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) by a mere 116 votes, has weighed in. ”I’m flattered by this honor, and although Sarah Walker is currently engaged, you never know what could happen on Chuck,” she tells EW. “Spread the word that thanks to these polling results, Sarah Walker is now accepting other offers. And here’s a hint: She thoroughly enjoys dates in Paris!”  READ FULL STORY »

TV's Most Dateable Characters: Choose your 'one' from readers' top picks (Poll!)

Dateable-charactersImage Credit: Greg Gayne/NBC; Justin Lubin/NBC; Brian Bowen Smith/Fox; Mitchell Haaseth/NBC; Bob D'Amico/ABC (2)Last week, PopWatch asked readers to name the TV character they’d date in real life. After tallying more than 2,000 nominations (yes, we read them all), we’re ready to take it to a vote. We’ve put your top picks — 25 men, and 29 women (there was a tie for that last spot) — in two polls below. Vote now through Tuesday at midnight ET. Come back Friday when we’ll reveal the results. Remember: You can’t change anything about the character you’re picking, other than that he or she will no longer have feelings for his or her show love interest. (Second rule: Do not feel guilty.) Note: The order the characters are listed in the polls below is how they ranked during the first round, when you could be indecisive. What will happen when you can only pick one?  READ FULL STORY »

Which TV character would you date in real life?

TV-characters-to-dateImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBS; Eric McCandless/ABC; Mitchell Haaseth/NBC; Justin Stephens/NBC; John P. Johnson/HBOSince Valentine’s Day is approaching, we’ve decided it’s time to crown TV’s Most Datable Characters. Here’s how this works: As we did in 2008, we are asking you to name the TV character you’d actually date in real life. The rules remain the same:

1. Hosts or reality TV contestants of any kind are disqualified. The relationship you’re creating is real; your better half must be fictional.
2. You can’t change anything about your partner — other than that he or she will no longer have feelings for the show love interest, obviously.

Here’s what’s different: This year, we’ll tally your nominations — male and female, from current shows only — and, assuming it’s not a landslide, create polls with your top picks and take this to an official vote. The Office‘s Jim Halpert won the men’s title in ’08. Can he repeat? Let’s find out.

To get you thinking, here are a few names being tossed around PopWatch HQ. Remember, if you want them to make the poll round, you have to nominate them as well…  READ FULL STORY »

'Chuck': Okay, I'm no longer angry about the first 'proposal'

Chuck-Vs-Push-MixImage Credit: Jordin Althaus/NBCI was angry — nay, livid — a few weeks ago after Chuck’s beautiful balcony proposal to Sarah was interrupted by the CIA, who busted in to arrest his eventual bride-to-be. Last night, in what was once written to be the show’s midseason (if not, series) finale had Chuck not received an order for additional episodes*, they more than made up for it. READ FULL STORY »
