Amy Adams on 'Into the Woods' and a possible Broadway debut

Since Into the Woods cast three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams, who carved out space in a packed film schedule to play the Baker’s Wife, rumors have been swirling that it might live happily ever after on Broadway. It’s an obvious move: Stephen Sondheim’s musical is a longtime theater favorite that hasn’t been in NYC since 2000, and Timothy Sheader’s 2010 production, which the Public Theater is adapting for Shakespeare in the Park, has already won over critics in the U.K., where it picked up an Olivier Award for Best Revival.

Adams has at least four projects in the can right now, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and an untitled Spike Jonze film. So what are the odds she’ll stick with the show if it moves to Broadway? “I’d definitely consider it,” says Adams, who is featured this week in EW’s Best of Summer issue. “I just try to take it one day at a time. I literally have to take it hour-by-hour right now, I’m so busy. But yeah, I would definitely consider it. That would be amazing.”

Kristen Wiig: What are the 'SNL' MVP's career prospects?

Kristen Wiig made her final regular appearance on Saturday Night Live last week with a moving send-off that was grander and more heartfelt than the sketch show has given a cast member in quite some time. With half a dozen film projects in the works, Wiig is poised to launch into a long, successful career on the A-list. But then again so was David Spade, Jimmy Fallon, and Tina Fey. While those SNL vets have all flourished in television, Wiig has made no move toward the small screen, and it’s harder to become a bankable star on the level of Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, and Eddie Murphy. Can Wiig leverage her Bridesmaids success to become SNL‘s first major female breakout film star? And, if so, where would she fit in the industry? EW reached out to some authorities on the show’s history to determine Wiig’s chances for headliner success.

“It’s a weird thing, having that SNL brand attached to you when you move from the show to movies,” acknowledges Nick Marx, a Media and Cultural Studies Fellow at the University of Wisconsin. “That assumption is there that successful stars of SNL will eventually leave the show and go on into movies. What's so funny about 40? 'Bridesmaids' director Paul Feig's tips for turning 40

Everywhere my pop-culture lenses look, Hollywood is feeling 40. From Megan’s surprise party for Don on Mad Men a few weeks back (zou bisou bisou!) to the recently released trailer for Judd Apatow’s second fortysomething comedy This Is 40. (One can only assume Apatow is working towards a complete trilogy). Tina Fey’s Bossypants, the crescendo of which has the 30 Rock creator and star grappling with what turning 40 means in terms of motherhood and career — and whether or not she needs to immediately take her pants off when she gets home now — is still hovering near the top of the New York Times best-seller list.

Then again, having just turned the big four-oh myself, maybe it’s just me?

“It’s sort of like when you buy a new car and then you suddenly start to notice all the cars are similar to yours,” says Bridesmaids director Paul Feig of turning 40. “And you go, ‘Wow, we all bought the same car!’”

When Paul Feig was staring down 40, Freaks and Geeks — the cult-favorite TV show he created and was executive produced by Apatow — had already been cancelled (prematurely, it should be noted), and he made a conscious decision to do away with childish things and begin viewing life through the eyes of a full-fledged adult. Elijah Wood joins the cast of 'Red vs. Blue.' Plus: Season 10 trailer -- EXCLUSIVE

The tenth season of animated sci-fi-action-comedy series Red vs. Blue debuts on RoosterTeeth.com on May 28, and co-director Burnie Burns promises the run of shows will be marked by a level of quality routinely lacking in the soldiery skills of its bickering future-warriors. “We thought, ‘We’re hitting ten seasons, we should definitely pull out all the stops,’” says Burns, who also voices the characters Church and Alpha on the video game-inspired show. “We’re wrapping up a lot of the stories, paying off a lot of things. We’re taking the series up a level or two and trying to make it as big and as bada– as we possibly can. We’re just making sure that the action scenes are as over the top and as awesome as they possibly can be.”

Will Smith brings back more '90s hits at 'MIB 3' afterparty -- VIDEO

Will Smith might be the world’s most energetic man. On the red — er, black — carpet at last night’s Men in Black 3 premiere, he exuberantly spoke with each reporter even as his publicist tried her best to move him down the line. But even a super-human movie star has limits — Smith told EW that though he really wanted to write MIB 3‘s theme song, he worried that the extra responsibility would be “too much.” We pointed out that he did at least get the chance to perform the Fresh Prince rap on Graham Norton last weekend, and Smith responded with a booming laugh. “Yo, it is amazing how many people know that dag-gone Fresh Prince theme song around the world,” he said, adding that he doesn’t often find himself busting out the catchy tune: “I don’t just be around the house rapping it.”

The premiere’s afterparty suggested otherwise. Around 11 p.m., Smith himself took the stage on the top deck of Manhattan’s Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum and gamely supported his son, Jaden, while Smith the Younger performed a few of his own raps. (Willow stopped by to say “hello” as well.) Then the Independence Day star grabbed the mic and started performing a few of his old hits, including “Summertime” and the original Men in Black theme song. Smith also informed a cheering throng that the next tune was for his true fans — before, yes, launching into the theme from Fresh Prince. The man knows his audience. Oh, and to make things even more nostalgic, DJ Jazzy Jeff was on hand to back Smith during each song.

Watching the crowd lap up Smith’s (and Jazz’s!) performance made it clear that he could easily launch a concert tour if he wanted. Even though the Oscar nominee is now better known as an actor than as a rapper, his ’90s singles hold up remarkably well — check out the video below, and you’ll find that “Summertime” still works as a warm-weather jam.

D'oh! of the Week: 'The Great Gatsby' trailer goof

Like his other films Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, and Strictly Ballroom, the trailer for Baz Lurhmann’s take on the classic novel The Great Gatsby is crammed with bunches of stuff, from sparkly confetti to fringe-y flapper dresses, extravagant pools to the bright lights of 1920s Times Square. So perhaps it shouldn’t be so shocking that one of those period details isn’t quite right.

Irritated moviegoer slugs obnoxious boor half his age. That's not the half of it.

You know those empowering stories about a mild-mannered Average Joe who gets pushed and pushed and pushed, until he finally stands up and puts a couple of nudniks half his age in their place. This is not one of those stories.

On April 11, a man who was watching Titanic 3-D with his girlfriend in an AMC theater in Kent, Wash., finally lashed out at the group of loud ruffians sitting behind him. He punched one, bloodying his nose and knocking out a tooth. What prevents this story from being heroic in any way is the fact that the annoyed moviegoer was 21 years old — and his victim was just 10.

Yong Hyum Kim was arrested for the assault, according to the Associated Press, and could face up to nine months in jail. Kim told police that he had no idea the person he hit was a child, though the misbehaving gaggle sat behind him, pelting him and his date with popcorn and running through the aisles.
