Joshua Malina talks 'Backwash,' his surreal celeb-filled summer web series

backwashImage Credit: Sony Pictures Television / Jordin Althaus What do Jon Hamm, John Stamos, Sarah Silverman, John Cho, Allison Janney, Hank Azaria, Fred Willard, Michael Vartan, Dulé Hill, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Jeffrey Ross, Ken Marino and David Wain have in common? They all cameo as themselves in Backwash, a 13-episode web series written by and starring Joshua Malina (Sports Night, The West Wing) debuting on Sony’s Crackle.com this summer. The series, directed by Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle’s Danny Leiner, follows three eccentric losers (pictured, from left to right, Malina, Michael Ian Black, and Michael Panes) who hit the road in an ice cream truck pursued by the police after one of them inadvertently robs $100,000 from a local bank. With production wrapped as of last week, Malina phoned PopWatch to answer a few of our burning questions: READ FULL STORY »

'I'm Here': Spike Jonze's robot love story

Im-HereSpike Jonze’s robot love story “I’m Here” (previously) is now online in its entirety. The 35-minute movie is very, very affected — but completely charming anyway. Robots Sheldon and Francesca have a pretty standard indie love story: He’s a bit geeky, she’s a manic pixie dream girl, they fall for each other. Aww.

'Leave it to Lemur' would be an excellent show

What do you do when a lemur named Bilbo is abandoned by his mother? You take him home and let him live in your hair.

Animal Planet, please make this a show.

Do you take your lemur on the subway, PopWatchers, or does your lemur not like mass transit?

Team Coco's fabulous fanart

Conan O’Brien has embraced the popular I’m With Coco image for his upcoming tour of live shows: the official The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour poster is indeed the grayscale and orange likeness. But as cool as that poster is — and as viral a hit as it became — it’s far from the only awesome Conandery floating around out there.

Like this “Age of Conan” poster or shirt, currently up for a vote on Threadless: READ FULL STORY »

Site of the day: Arcade Aid

I know this is an ad for the upcoming Tron movie, but it’s still a really fun game: How many videogame titles can you name in this little cityscape? Some are super, super easy (ahem Call of Duty), but some totally stumped me.

Well, at least there’s a answer sheet. How many did you get, PopWatchers? [via]

Through a scanner artfully

Please let this be a video meme that catches on: “Memoirs of a Scanner” is composed completely of still images “shot” on a scanner. This contains some allusions to salty behavior, so if you’re outrageously prudish, consider this a warning:

Your move, cool kids!

This is better than Scanwiches, no?

Site of the day: Big-Ass Message

popwatch-loves-youDo you have a big-ass message? Of course you do. Big-Ass Message is your friend. Type in your text, select from “basic” (white text on black), “magic” (seizure-inducing), “Pepsi” (with the requisite logos), or Jeopardy, which is obviously the best choice. BAM creates a url and poof! You are on your way to a fun-times single-serving site. Remember, PopWatch loves you.

Boba Fett playing 'Zelda' song on the accordion is too much awesome for me to handle

This is a guy (presumably) dressed as Boba Fett, playing Zelda music on the accordion. Begin your slowclap now.

What song would you want Boba Fett to play while you wait for the subway, PopWatchers? [via]
