Bono impersonator mistakenly punks conservative activist

It’s too bad Ashton Kutcher can’t take credit for this one: Conservative muckraker Jason Mattera attempted to barrage U2′s Bono with a slew of controversial questions last month. Problem was, it wasn’t Bono he was bombarding, but rather Bono impersonator Pavel Sfera.

According to The Washington Post, the onslaught occurred at an L.A. event where Bono was slated to appear. Mattera attended the event, hoping to corner Bono about U2′s decision to move their business from Ireland to the Netherlands purportedly to avoid paying taxes.

“Do you find it hypocritical that you encourage Western countries to give money over to Africa, and then you take your money and put it into a tax haven?” fires Mattera in the video. But the matter is seemingly lost on Sfera, who repeatedly responds with, “I didn’t,” and, “It’s not my company.” Watch the video after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Tom Hanks blackface controversy: Conservative group calls for Obama to replace actor as campaign video narrator -- VIDEO

Though Barack Obama is not yet in full-tilt campaign mode, the President’s aspiring Republican opponents have been on the attack throughout their primary season. There’s even an effort to ding Obama through an unlikely intermediary: Tom Hanks. In response to Hanks’ involvement in an Obama campaign video called “The Road We’ve Traveled,” conservative civil rights group the Congress of Racial Equality sent Tucker Carlson’s website The Daily Caller a video of Hanks emceeing a 2004 school fundraiser where a fellow parent donned blackface.

The two-time Oscar winner was, by his own admission, “blindsided” by the bit, in which James Montgomery wore a leopard-print outfit and an Afro wig, and carried a stuffed gorilla, among other stereotypical garb. Hanks explained the situation with this statement: “For many years I emceed the annual fundraising auction for my kids’ school. In 2004, I was blindsided when one of the parents got up on the stage in a costume that was hideously offensive then and is hideously offensive now. What is usually a night of food and drink for a good cause was, regrettably, marred by an appalling few moments.”

Though Hanks swiftly condemned the costume as “hideously offensive then and… hideously offensive now,” CORE Spokesperson Niger Innis deemed the skit “heinous” and “racist,” and demanded Obama dissociate himself from Hanks. See the video and weigh the possible consequences for Hanks below. READ FULL STORY »

Jimmy Fallon's Tebowie returns with Peyton Manning jam -- VIDEO

Tim Tebow’s career may be up in the air, but Tebowie’s is hitting its stride. The football farceur returned for another performance on Tuesday’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, this time addressing Peyton Manning’s move to the Denver Broncos.

“Tebow prayed to God, begging him to smite the Mannings and find him a job. Just not on the Lions, but maybe the Giants, have him and Eli switch, oh payback is a bitch,” sang Tebowie, a.k.a. Jimmy Fallon, in jaunty boots and a jersey.

Tebowie is one of the late-night host’s most popular singer characters. (He’s previously also spoofed Pearl Jam, Justin Bieber, and Neil Young). Channeling the Broncos quarterback and David Bowie, Fallon let loose with a Ziggy Stardust rip addressing Manning’s recent move to Denver, which will likely shake up Tebow’s future and push him out of town. Watch the performance (complete with fuzzy ’70s camera effects!) below:

UPDATE: Looks like New York (where Fallon’s show tapes) can expect to see a lot more of Tebow, as the quarterback has just been acquired by the Jets in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. Does this mean we’ll get more Tebowie!?

'American Idol': Name your Top 10 Power List!

Heejun Han still does not have Fergie’s number. Does he have yours? Why did you do that?

Welcome back to another round of EW.com’s American Idol Power List — in which I attempt to predict how America will vote for the finalists and you all disagree with me and post your own ranking, and it’s okay because none of us plebes are fortune-tellers and the only being who knows exactly what will happen is celestial mouthpiece Ryan Seacrest.

Remember: I’m just predicting how America will vote and — to some extent — how the contestants might do this week. Tonight the Top 10 take on the Billy Joel songbook. (I don’t think I’ve ever used that word, songbook, without including a parenthetical about how it annoys me so much.) Read through my photo gallery ranking of the Top 10, then leave your own list in the comments…. READ FULL STORY »

Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up? Romney turned rapper in 'Shady' mash-up — VIDEO

If you think this is just a casual mash-up of Mitt Romney sound bites overlaid onto the beat from Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady,” you’re in for a harsh reality check.

A fellow named Hugh Atkin deftly created an entire rap parody of the 2000 hit song by splicing together hundreds of quotes from Romney, President Obama, Newt Gingrich, and other political pundits into one masterful example of the power of clever editing and attention to detail. If Thelma Schoonmaker decided to transition into government-themed hip-hop mash-ups, this would be the result. Watch below: READ FULL STORY »

Carson Daly blogs 'The Voice' battle rounds, part 3: A few good mentors

There was a lot of ’80s love in the air last night! I had noticed that three out of the six songs were ’80s staples: we had a little Billy Ocean, a little Tina, and a little Pat Benatar. So the songs of the ’80s definitely helped narrow the fields down in the third battle round.

Pip and Nathan Parrett are really close friends, and Adam, of all of our coaches, specifically tells the producers of the show that he doesn’t want to know any personal information about his artists before he pairs them up. He likes to decide his battle pairings based only on the vocals of the blind auditions, so that’s definitely an interesting tactic for him. But even though he didn’t know any of the personal details about the artists, he ended up picking Nathan and Pip to go up against each other. I remember Pip killing it in the blind auditions, coming out with his bow tie and suspenders, yet wanting to be taken really seriously, so he can be something of a silent threat. But he surprised a lot of us, and now look how far he’s gone. He’s going to the live shows, which is great for him. READ FULL STORY »

Lady Gaga tells Oprah she wants a 'soccer team' of kids

The ladies of one-name names, Gaga and Oprah, sat down for an episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter last night to plumb the depths of the pop star’s mind. In a surprisingly demure (yet still Gaga-esque) red trench-coat dress, Gaga opened up on several topics, including her desire for her own Little Monsters, how she deals (or doesn’t) with the media, and the one thing that scares her. Check out highlights of the interview below, with a video after the jump:

On starting a family:
“I want kids. I want a soccer team. I want a husband. I don’t want to have one kid, I want to have a few. I want to experience that.” READ FULL STORY »

'Saturday Night Live': 'Real Housewives of Disney' deleted scenes has everyone, even LiLo, smiling

If there’s silver lining to be found in the failed attempt for a Lindsay Lohan comeback by hosting an otherwise terrible episode of Saturday Night Live, it was that popular “Real Housewives of Disney” sketch. The inspired bit imagined what classic Disney princesses (and an ambiguously gay prince) would do to one another on The Real Housewives. Turns out, it’s exactly the same as the real boys and girls do in the franchise. It was easily the episode’s — and Lohan’s — rare high point.

But there was a lot that hit the cutting room floor! Check out newly released bonus footage, and find out the real truth as to why Mulan wasn’t invited, below.
