We’re in the heat of the battle rounds, which was on full display last night. There’s some fierce competition! It’s interesting to see how different battle pairings approach the battle round. Some people get super competitive, some people get inspired by each other and end up being really collaborative, and some people (like Sarah and Juliet) just seemed to have a great time. For the blog this week, I really wanted to try and focus on giving you guys more behind-the-scenes nuggets and a little more insight into what you don’t get to see on the show.

Today in unexpected pairings: Darren Aronofsky directs J. Lo in Kohl's ad

Because when I think “Darren Aronofsky,” I also immediately think “high energy dance number starring pop sensation Jennifer Lopez.” Don’t you? That’s what the provoc-auteur has put together for a Kohl’s commercial starring the American Idol judge dancing to the Kiki Dee Band’s 1974 hit “I Got the Music in Me.” Aronofsky sets up a series of quick costume changes in media res to show off the singer’s clothing line, apparently using the same technology he employed for Natalie Portman’s stunning, climactic, feather-sprouting dance sequence in Black Swan. Watch the colorful commercial below. READ FULL STORY »

It’s been almost one month since the sad passing of Whitney Houston, and now the legendary singer’s family is beginning to open up. While Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina (who, as its been reported, was left everything in her mother’s will) and her brother Gary Houston and sister-in-law Patricia Houston sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a chat on Oprah’s Next Chapter (the episode airs on OWN this Sunday), the Grammy-winner’s cousin, singer Dionne Warwick talked to Good Morning America on Thursday.

“I spoke to Whitney the day that she passed,” Warwick revealed during her interview, “I spoke to her that morning.” The 71-year-old said that Houston asked if she’d be at Clive Davis’ Grammys party, which Houston was also going to attend. Warwick told GMA, “She said, ‘You’re here, aren’t you? You’re coming to the party, aren’t you?’  I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to be there’ and she said, ‘Thank you, I want you to be here. You’ve got to be here for me.’” (Tragically, Houston was found dead in a bathroom at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton Hotel, hours before the pre-Grammy celebration.)

Miley Cyrus responds to Twitter attacks; says science and religion can be friends

Miley Cyrus, who recently transformed from a mildly irritating tween megastar to that liberal arts student in your freshman dorm with this poster on her wall, came under fire earlier this week for tweeting a photo that contained this quote, from physicist Lawrence Krauss:

“You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, all the things that matter for evolution) weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in stars. So forget Jesus. Stars died so you can live.”

Unsurprisingly, some of Cyrus’ more devout Christian followers took offense to the “forget Jesus” segment of the quote, and took up verbal arms against the 19-year-old. “Forget that Jesus?” inquired one follower, before adding a simple, but profound, “:/”. Other followers told Cyrus to go to hell, bemoaning the apparent loss of her trademark Southern Baptist beliefs. READ FULL STORY »

Adele baby pictures revealed: See her rolling in the diapers

ADELE-CHILD

Before she set fire to the rain, she set macaroni pictures to the refrigerator, as Adele, like all of us, was once a wee, young tyke, as these photos from the pint-sized performer’s personal album confirm.

The Daily Mail got its hands on a selection of photographs featuring the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter who successfully took ownership of literally all of the year 2011. The shots show a very ’90s Adele Adkins in various stages of growing up in England: at nine months, on the knee of father Mark Evans (with whom she currently has a very publicly strained relationship); at age four, strumming a Fisher Price guitar; and as a nine year old, sporting gigantic Nikes and a sassy tennis pose.

Check out the rest of the photos over at the Daily Mail. Stars, they’re just like us.

American Idol ‘s Top 13 performers haven’t even set foot on stage to sing as finalists, but the Las Vegas oddsmakers have already picked a winner — and the unfortunate contestant they believe is likely to go home Thursday night.

It is bad news for Idol fans who were hoping to finally see a female take the crown for the first time since Jordin Sparks cried as the confetti fell in 2007. Currently in the lead to take it all is strummer Phillip Phillips, whose acoustic takes on pop classics have made him a favorite. This morning, sports site Bovada has him favored to win with 7/2 odds. READ FULL STORY »

She’s no Demi Moore, but Jessica Simpson is certainly trying to be. The singer turned fashion designer graces this month’s cover of Elle magazine, not only nude, but also in an identical pose to Moore’s famed 1991 Vanity Fair cover. Her very large baby bump, however, isn’t the only thing the Fashion Star mentor revealed: she and fiancé Eric Johnson will be having a girl, something that Simpson predicted to People in December.

“I swear, I will croak if she asks me for a pair of Nikes instead of Christian Louboutins!” Simpson told Elle. “Eric is so athletic. We’re gonna have this athletic girl and I won’t even be able to take her shopping.” READ FULL STORY »
