TRANSFORMERS-RIDE

Whether you love the Transformers movies or you spend hours online composing detailed take-downs of its many perceived flaws, you’ve likely said the following words regarding them: “It was just like a theme park ride!” Well, starting Friday, you can experience first hand what a Transformers theme park ride is actually like, when the imaginatively titled Transformers the Ride 3-D officially opens to the public at Universal Studios Hollywood. I got a chance to preview the ride already, though, let me just spoil things for you right now (UNNECESSARY SPOILER ALERT): In every way that matters, riding the Transformers ride is exactly like watching a Transformers movie, but better.  READ FULL STORY »

D'oh! of the Week: 'The Great Gatsby' trailer goof

Great-Gatsby-Mulligan

Like his other films Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, and Strictly Ballroom, the trailer for Baz Lurhmann’s take on the classic novel The Great Gatsby is crammed with bunches of stuff, from sparkly confetti to fringe-y flapper dresses, extravagant pools to the bright lights of 1920s Times Square. So perhaps it shouldn’t be so shocking that one of those period details isn’t quite right.

Thanks to eagle-eyed Twitter follower @AmyOriss, I was alerted to the fact that the film misspells the famed Ziegfeld Follies:  READ FULL STORY »

'Batman: Arkham City': Watch Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, and Stana Katic play the Joker, Batman, and Talia al Ghul -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Of the many, many great things about Batman: Arkham City, hearing Mark Hamill’s lethal shriek as the Joker opposite Kevin Conroy’s commanding baritone as Batman was a welcome nostalgia bomb for anyone who spent their afternoons in the 1990s glued to Batman: The Animated Series.

To commemorate the release of the “Game of the Year” edition on May 29 — which includes all the game’s downloadable content plus the new level Harley Quinn’s Revenge — EW has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Hamill and Conroy in action for a key scene from the game. And if it’s just too unnerving to watch Luke Skywalker deliver a sinister giggle, just wait for the far more pleasant segment featuring Castle‘s Stana Katic performing as Batman paramour Talia al Ghul.

What is the cast of 'The Avengers' really worth?

AVENGERS-CAST

No one could claim that The Avengers are an evenly matched team of superheroes. Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) are more-or-less indestructible — Thor can even fly, for Odin’s sake — whereas Captain America (Chris Evans) is just the most fit human being ever with a seemingly shatterproof shield. And while Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are supremely talented, they are very much earthbound mortals. Then there’s Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), who can fly and shoot rockets and such, but is embodied by a highly flawed man who’s always just a hair away from death.

But what about the actors playing all of these roles — are they as lopsidedly matched? READ FULL STORY »

Clay Aiken defends same-sex marriage on 'Face the Nation,' looks like a polished politician

No, it wasn’t a task for The Celebrity Apprentice (wrong network, for starters). Former American Idol runner-up and current Celeb Apprentice contestant Clay Aiken appeared this morning on CBS’ Face the Nation on a panel about gay marriage — and the real headline is that the one-time America’s Next Top Model guest judge played the part of talking head quite admirably.  READ FULL STORY »

Joss Whedon: Bathroom coach? Of course! -- VIDEO

Because Joss Whedon hasn’t had enough to do between writing and directing The Avengers, co-writing and producing The Cabin in the Woods, adapting and directing Much Ado About Nothing, exec-producing the comic book expansion of the Buffyverse, and doing press for every one of these projects, he’s taken up another occupation: bathroom coach. Don’t believe me? Check out this (oh so slightly NSFW) video from web comedy sketch geniuses gritty documentarians Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher:  READ FULL STORY »

Happy 75th Birthday, Jack Nicholson! LIFE.com looks back at some great unpublished photos

Chris Hemsworth. Ryan Gosling. Taylor Kitsch. Channing Tatum. Michael Fassbender. All leading men and rising stars, all in their late 20s or early 30s, all with the potential for great careers that could potentially span decades.

And all of them would likely give their eye teeth to enjoy even half the moxie, talent, acclaim, and success as Jack Nicholson, who turns 75 years old today. Our sister site LIFE.com is looking back at some never-before-seen outtakes from a 1969  LIFE magazine shoot at Nicholson’s Los Angeles home, when the future three-time Oscar winner was 32 years old and had had far less high-profile success than any of those aforementioned strapping gentlemen already enjoy today. He’d just come off a standout role in Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider — a role that won him his first Oscar nomination, for best supporting actor — but otherwise, Nicholson had only done some TV guest spots (The Andy Griffith Show, Dr. Kildare) and several films by Z-movie auteur Roger Corman. And yet, as you can see from the two outtakes below, he was still unmistakably JackREAD FULL STORY »

'Mad Men' deep cuts: Watch 'Signal 30,' the driver's-ed film from last night's ep. Plus: Fat Betty! -- VIDEO

As I noted in my recap, “Signal 30,” the title of last night’s superlative episode of Mad Men, comes from one of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s infamous driver’s-ed films of real-life car wrecks. The episode opened with a quick clip of the opening title crawl, but thanks to the Internet, you can watch the entire overwrought, gruesome movie yourself.

Check it out below, along with a bonus video that can best be described by it’s title: “Fat Betty.” Enjoy! READ FULL STORY »
