Vin Diesel hints that he's going to be in another Marvel movie

Vin Diesel officially joined the Marvel family in Guardians of the Galaxy. And you don’t turn your back on family…even if they already cast you as a talking tree in one of their multifarious film franchises. So Diesel posted a message on his Facebook page, which strongly hinted that he might have a key role in another strand of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Vin and Marvel… you all made it happen!” writes Diesel, before dropping the big bombshell. “I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I’m Inhuman… Haha.”

Note that capital “I” on “Inhuman.” That’s a clear tease about Inhumans, a comic book that Marvel has been threatening to adapt for a few years now. According to the lore, the Inhumans are a race of superpowered beings whose adventures combine high fantasy with political-thriller paranoia and full-blown allegory–sort of like Game of Thrones with more superpowers and weirder pets. (The Inhumans actually share some narrative lineage with the Guardians of the Galaxy; their origins tie in to the Kree race, represented in Guardians by grouchy big bad Ronan.)

Here’s where things get confusing. Diesel spent summer 2013 playfully Facebooking about meetings he was taking with Marvel about some undisclosed project. When he talked to yours truly at last year’s Comic-Con, Diesel offered extremely ambient hints about the project which referenced his work in the Fast & Furious franchise. Quoth Diesel: “Marvel was excited about bring a different kind of relationship, a different kind of love story, I guess kind of inspired from the Dom-Letty relationship, into the Marvel universe.” Obviously, he wasn’t talking about Guardians (unless we’re meant to read Rocket Raccoon as the Michelle Rodriguez figure.)

Diesel famously doesn’t stand on much ceremony with his social media feed, so this could just be a playful tease. But it’s possible that the “different kind of relationship” he was talking about was the central relationship between Black Bolt and Medusa, the king and queen of the Inhumans. Like Letty and Dom, Black Bolt and Medusa were childhood friends who fell in love; like Letty and Dom, their relationship has suffered its fair share of strife. (Also, both Medusa and Letty have played for the bad guys’ side due to bouts of amnesia.)

If Diesel is playing Black Bolt—this being a very, very large and entirely incorroborable “if”—then he’d be playing a character who essentially never speaks, so no one will ever wonder why the King of the Inhumans sounds exactly like the giant talking space tree.
