Sarah Palin knows a job opportunity when she sees one, whether that’s a place on a ticket as Vice Presidential candidate or space next to Whoopi Goldberg around a talk show table.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the pickup of the second season of her Amazing America with Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor said she doesn’t really approve of doing a political talk show, largely because today’s politics are “incorrigibly disastrous.” But, she said, “I hear everyone recently got canned from The View, maybe a show like that needs a punch of reality and a voice of reason from America’s heartland to knock some humble sense into their scripts. You know, someone willing to go rogue.”

Not everyone was canned from The View (Whoopi Goldberg still has a spot), but Palin’s comment does come after the announcement that long-time host Barbara Walters would retire and that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy would not return this fall. That means there are three potential seats (or more) open for Palin to occupy.

The two hosts confirmed their departures the first airing of the show following this news. McCarthy, who joined the show last September, teased a new project that “will allow me to do what I do best, which is talk without having to interrupt anyone.” Shepherd, who joined the show as a guest co-host in 2006, revealed in a tearful goodbye that she had decided in advance not to return after her contract expired in August.  She had kept the news close to her chest in order to keep the focus on the celebration of Walters’ retirement. Shepherd also promised “exciting news” for her future career.

Sources previously told EW that The View will be moving in an “exciting new direction next year” and that this might possibly mean a male co-host or two. Whether or not that new direction also includes the “whole lot of fun” and “punch of reality” that Palin promises remains to be seen.
