When Jimmy Fallon took over the Tonight Show, he enacted some new (imaginary) rules.
“Dancing has been outlawed here at the Tonight Show,” he solemnly announced on Friday’s episode. He pulled out the official proclamation and stated, “It’s a bummer, but rules are rules.”
That didn’t fly with his guest, Kevin Bacon, whose classic film Footloose is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
“Dancing is illegal?” asked an incredulous Bacon, sitting backstage. “This is the Tonight Show. There has to be dancing!”
Bacon puts a cassette (!) into the stereo, takes a drag on a cigarette, swigs some beer, and — just like in that iconic dance movie — gets out all of his frustration through some angsty, sexy moves. On a smoke-filled stage. And possibly with the aid of some stunt doubles, but no matter. Because when he suddenly dons a maroon suit and bow-tie and shouts, “Let’s dance!” there’s nothing to do but get lost in the music:
And with that, dancing is now officially legal on the Tonight Show.
