What do Miley Cyrus, Barack Obama, and the Pope all have in common? They are among the 10 finalists announced by Time magazine for the annual Person of the Year issue.

Time Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs announced the list on the Today show Monday morning, saying the POTY is a “person who has had the most impact on events this year, for better or worse.” Here’s the complete list (in alphabetical order):

Bashar Assad, president of Syria

Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder

Ted Cruz, Texas senator

Miley Cyrus, singer

Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church

Barack Obama, president of the United States

Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran

Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services

Edward Snowden, NSA whistleblower

Edith Windsor, gay-rights activist

Obama was previously named Person of the Year in 2008 and 2012. Franklin D. Roosevelt is the only person to have received the title three times. Though Miley Cyrus was leading the poll last week, Time readers online eventually chose Egypt’s General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as their Person of the Year.

Watch the announcement below. This year’s Person of the Year will be announced Wednesday morning.
