After a big episode in Nov. 7’s “Icarus,” Scandal‘s Quinn is on a roll. Kind of like Katie Lowes, who plays Quinn, when you ask her to spit a few rhymes from her junior high jam “Shoop.” Salt-n-Pepa’s rap hit from 1993 kicks of a cultural trifecta of Lowes’ favorites from the Hypercolor era when she sat down to take EW Pop Culture Personality Test.

In addition to loving the female rap group, Lowes was bowled over by the boiler room scene in My So-Called Life (a show that just so happened to feature the actress’s current Scandal costar Jeff Perry) and traumatized by a Larry Clark flick. Yep, Lowes is definitely a child of the ’90s. Watch below, then read on for some Quinn-centric Scandal scoop.

Since the end of season 2, Quinn’s been contending with the violence she learned under the tutelage of her colleague and former assassination addict Huck (fellow PCPT vet Guillermo Díaz). With a scene at the gun range last Thursday , “Icarus” opened up both Quinn and Katie to something new, the actress reveals: “I have never [shot a gun] in my real life before, and I was petrified at the beginning of the day. By the end of the day, I was hooked.”

Lowes teases that upcoming episodes will dig deeper into Quinn’s complicated background. “You’ll see in flashbacks that she was an overachiever. She was kind of more of a normal girl,” says the actress, “but there are little dark secrets in everybody. We just kind of walk through life not ever being presented with crazy things, and Quinn gets presented with crazy things on a daily basis. She’s been around murder scenes now, she’s been around election rigging, Amanda Tanner [Liza Weil] got dragged out of the Potomac River… [Quinn] has seen crazy things, and that has to affect her differently.”

Now that she’s packing heat, it’s anyone’s guess what that will mean. Tune in to episode 7, “Everything’s Coming Up Mellie,” which Lowes promises will be “huge” for her character. Scandal airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
