An innocent bystander might look at actors and think that the greatest moment of any one actor’s career would be winning something like an Emmy or an Oscar. But we might have found something that tops any sort of award: Anthony-freakin’-Hopkins telling you that you’re the best actor — possibly ever.

As far as we know, not many people can say they know what it feels like to have the man behind Hannibal Lecter tell them that they are great, but Bryan Cranston — and the entire cast of Breaking Bad, for that matter — now can. EW has confirmed that Anthony Hopkins himself wrote Bryan Cranston an email, in which he explains that he just recently finished a marathon of Breaking Bad, watching the entire series from beginning to end.

“I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!” Hopkins wrote. “Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen — ever.”

If Cranston hadn’t passed out yet from being praised by one of the greatest actors of all time, he would go on to read, “If you ever get a chance to — would you pass on my admiration to everyone — Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada — everyone — everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.”

And just when you thought the praise couldn’t get any better, Sir Anthony Hopkins brought things home with sheer elegance: “Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence,” he wrote. “You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.”

He then signed the email: “Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.”

And just in case this wasn’t cool enough, he ended with “Tony Hopkins.” So basically, Bryan Cranston is allowed to call him Tony. Sorry, Oscars, but you just got showed up. Big time.
