Miley Cyrus’ moves at the VMAs may have stunned viewers, but the Oxford dictionary wasn’t fazed by her performance. The online version this morning officially announced “twerk” as a new verb in its quarterly update to the English language.

Oxford Dictionaries Online defines “twerk” as a “dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.” And in case you missed Miley’s gyrations across the stage, the dictionary helpfully lists “just wait till they catch their daughters twerking to this song” and “twerk it girl, work it girl” as examples of the word’s use.

But “twerk” isn’t the only word that made the cut: “selfie,” “apols,” “derp,” “emoji,” “grats,” and even “vom” have entered the official English lexicon.

So grats, Miley. Your favorite dance is now srsly a word.
