Who is Bryan Cranston to you? Walter White? Heisenberg? Hal? Hammond Druthers? Apparently to at least one participant in Tuesday’s Reddit AMA session, the Breaking Bad star is also just some dude who asked to crash his random table of diners when a Culver City restaurant was too full.
But, the session wasn’t all sweet celebrity encounters. Just take a look at Cranston’s takeaway from the restaurant story. He deflected the silly questions with quippy responses (i.e. the softness of Ryan Gosling’s skin), addressed sincere ones with care, and even made a few people kind of uncomfortable with some of his answers as we all wondered whether or not he was kidding (like when he answered this question about his funniest time on set). But, Cranston just proved once again that he is kind of awesome. Also, he made 6 distinct references to people getting crushed by cranes, so we can probably rest assured that he didn’t actually witness a death on set. And we can all start obsessing over whether or not this is a clue about the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad.
Cranston also conducted the session to raise awareness (and money) for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from Cranston’s session.
On how to score that perfect tighty whitey/Oxford combo
Haha! I wish I could comment but I’m in negotiations to represent those brands. See them in a JC Penney’s catalogue soon.
When did Walt break bad?
My feeling is that Walt broke bad in the very first episode. It was very subtle but he did because that’s when he decided to become someone that he’s not in order to gain financially. He made the Faustian deal at that point and everything else was a slippery slope.
Um… gosh. Sandy Koufax, Vin Scully, my grandfather. As far as acting heroes, Dick Van Dyke, Jack Lemmon, Rod Steiger, and Spencer Tracy.
His favorite Breaking Bad moment
My favorite moment? I’ll say my favorite meth moment was the teaser in Season 3 where Windy was the song and they had the meth whore, Wendy, trying to score and she would give head to anyone who would drive by in order to get her fix. Juxtaposed with that bubbly song were these horrible acts where she’s squatting in the alley, taking a pee. It was just nasty, nasty visuals and I thought it was brilliant.
On whether or not he will ever top his performance as Hal roller skating
Oh no, they can post those videos… wow. What I discovered is that everyone has a dark side. It might be unrealized, untapped, but if the right buttons are pushed anyone can become dangerous and I just opened up to it. Now I don’t want to say that I killed people in preparation for the role… but I can’t deny it either.
Well, I would have patted myself on the back but I was holding a pizza. Yeah, I did it in one try. It was a real pizza (a super extra large) and very heavy. I just got lucky and it landed in the right place on the very first try so we let it be that way.
His weird connection with the Power Rangers
I did voice work for the Power Rangers years and years ago. Someone once told me they named the blue Power Ranger after me, his last name was Cranston. I found out years later that was true.
If John Cusack or Matthew Broderick had been cast as Walter White
It would have been cuter. We would have had a cuter Walter White.
Words of wisdom
Every man should shave his head at some point and walk around.
